I've been fortunate to not need Cothron's service for lockouts, but I have to come rely on them for various other needs like antique key duplication, and repairing locks on antique furniture. Their skills in lock repair are impressive and invaluable to me since most companies won't bother with hand-manufacturing parts for antique locks. As someone who enjoys buying and refurbishing antique furniture, being able to completely restore their functionality is important to me, and I'm glad I've got Cothron to help me with that. Cothron also has a good inventory for various safes, and their staff is knowledgeable about the products they offer, as well as the ones they don't. I needed the duplicate key replaced for my car (17 years old) because the plastic head portion came loose and I struggled with aligning the key to start the car. The original key with remote/fob function hadn't worked in 5 years when the DEALER quoted me over a thousand dollars to reprogram the CAR AND to replace the key. They told me that only the dealer could do it, AND I would have to leave my card overnight. So, due to the cars age, the inconvenience of renting another car and the extreme expense, I opted out of the safety and convenience of the remote features and the dealer made me a basic non-electronic key for less than $100.00. HOWEVER...when the basic non-electronic (cheap key) broke, I went to Cothron's to duplicate it and within 45 minutes, I drove off with a NEW FULLY FUNCTIONAL REMOTE KEY FOB, plus a secondary back up key AND Garrett repaired the broken plastic key!! 3 keys!!! I needed a key duplicated for my Buick LaCrosse. Not every locksmith has the ability to make laser cut keys. I was able to walk in to the store on Burnet and was taken care of right away. Purely based on the online picture, they said that they couldn't deliver to it. Cothron's came to the rescue. They accepted delivery from the other company to themselves. Then they not only delivered to my house... They moved it to the exact room... and the exact spot that I wanted. Delivery guys were awesome to deal with and extremely professional. Wow!!! Dominick "Don" here was awesome!!! I have a 2005 Yukon XL and the ignition key would not not lock the doors.. I explained to him what happened as I always use the remote to get in and out until one day when the battery on the remote died and couldn't get into the car. I was pissed as I had to call a locksmith to open the doors with air bags and had a 300 bills for the rush service... I came to this place due to another mobile locksmith telling me to come here and thought it might cost me 100-200 to get it fixed and I was ok with that. Dom comes out and sprays the keyhole and key with some WD40 and waits a few minutes and then is able to unlock the door!! Wow!!!! And best part so quick to fixed it and not a penny!!! 12am is not a time to realize you've lost your key to the house. We yelped Corthron's and got an immediate response from Josh - Josh called the on call tech who then reached out to us in minutes. I'm sad to say I've misplaced the Technicians name for he deserves a lot of credit. We were about 20 min from the techs house, he made it to us in 30 min. Old stubborn door but Tech kept at it and got the job done. Great attitude, nice person, and didn't seem to mind that it was almost 1am on a Friday night. Fees were extremely fair. Great experience purchasing a massive home safe. I dealt with Dom in this old-school retail showroom. He was helpful and very knowledgeable about their vast array of safes. I received a nice 20% discount for purchasing the floor model (looks brand new - no scratches etc.), delivery was arranged for a few days later. The delivery and installation was performed by the excellent Jeff and Beau. They were real pros and they knew what they were doing. Efficient, polite, and very careful. They made sure that I was completely happy with the installation before they left. Take Note: I was tempted to buy the same safe from one of the many online retailers to save some money but I'm so glad I didn't. Safes are crazy-heavy but surprisingly delicate, and the delivery folks need to be specialists like the guys at Cothrons', not just some random carrier that dumps it at your driveway. read more

After doing the necessary research, I gave a detailed description of the hardware I needed, and my particular situation. Received a reply stating "The service call for residential is $75 and $90 for commercial. Labor and part pricing is discussed by the technician." I responded with a another list of the hardware I need to complete my project, and asked for a ballpark quote on the job. The reply was "Unfortunately, I can only quote you the service call. We can have a technician go on site to give you a quote and to also provide you with information as far as if the locks are in stock or if they will need to be ordered." So, bottom line.....it would cost me $75 to find out if/when the job could be done or completed, with no idea what the total cost for the upgrade might be. Contacted another Locksmith, who was able to quote me the cost for parts, approximate labor, and make an appointment to do the job. Shame, as a retired Law Enforcement Officer, I have had occasion to to business with Cothron's in the past. Now...not so much. read more

I am very impressed with Cothron's service. I called today because the latch wouldn't come out of the strike plate; my door was totally unusable. I talked to a lady about it and I expected to have to make an appointment at the end of the week or next week. Well, no, not at all! About 45 minutes later Jack was at my door and he was able to take out the old door knob, freeing my door and installed the new door knob within about 30 minutes. I was so happy! I tried reaching out to someone else in Round Rock and that experience was not pleasant. Cothron's has been in Round Rock for many years and should be everyone's go to place for help with lock issues. They are the oldest and they are the best! read more

Great and quick customer service at Cothron's! My previous vehicle was totaled, and the new vehicle I purchased came with roof bars that were locked without the keys. We called Cothron's and they told us to stop on by. Dom was able to unlock the bars within minutes, and told us it was at no charge! Reply to Josh L. Josh, I sent you a direct message to you yesterday to your reply of my review, but have not heard back from you. As I stated, I never asked for a refund. I just wanted the key replaced or fixed. Not one time did Ken offer any of those options. He was adamant that there was a 30 day warranty from the manufacturer and there was no warranty from Cothron's Safe and Lock. So I don't know if you have me mixed up with someone else, but you don't have the facts straight on this one. I'll bring the key back in and talk to Dom who was the one who programmed the key for me when I purchased it from your store. He had good customer service, unlike Ken. Will provide an update to review as soon as I get a resolution either way. read more

The service is overwhelming. Excellent customer engagement. I needed replacement truck keys cut. I had the blanks. Master was worn out. First key was cut effectively. I tried the fresh key. It didn't work in the door or tailgate lock. Probably never opened with a key. The ignition was successful. I returned to the store. The specialist immediately offer to checkout the situation. If I could give zero stars I would. I brought a key fob in to be programmed for my truck. After 30 min of trying the guy said my battery was too dead and gave me till the end of the day to get it checked out. They charged me $60. Auto Zone confirmed my truck battery was perfect. Went back to Cothrons and they tried again for another 30 min yet still could not program it. I asked for my money back and he refused, wouldn't even program it again if I brought in a new key fob, said I would have to pay the amount again. Really?? How do I know if its my fob or your faulty equipment!? Located another locksmith who was able to program my fob in 5 min. Cothrons is a scam and the guy who helped us is rude. I had to call my bank and file a dispute. read more
