For years, I heard friends and family rave about Costco and their products and especially about their excellent customer service. I was in the market to buy four winter tires, so when St.Albert opened up a store, I decided to buy a membership. I compared prices at other St.Albert retailers, and Costco was "hands down" the cheapest price. I made an appointment and my tires were installed within 1.5 hours. Perfect! I was told to return after 40 km for a torque verification. Again, this was perfect. I drove away and realized that the "low tire pressure" symbol was still illuminated on my dash, so I returned within minutes and Julius came out into the Costco parking lot to assist me. He told me to go home and that the symbol would probably turn off. I didn't want to go home and have to come back another time, so Julius told me to drive around in the Costco parking lot, and the light would probably go off. Well, it didn't. I returned to the tire centre within minutes. Julius came out with his "black box", checked all four tires and the "low tire pressure" symbol still would not go out. He got down on his knees, took his "little black box and plugged it underneath my steering column. I am not sure what he did, but the "low tire pressure" symbol no longer appeared on my dash. I had never seen a mechanic do such a thing. But anyhow, I drove away and went home. The next morning, I backed out of my garage, drove a few meters and noticed a very loud noise. I backed up onto my driveway. To my surprise, I had a flat tire on the front driver side. I realized that I would be late for work, so I had to call a taxi. I arrived at work late and it cost me $25.00 for my cab ride. Knowing that Costco opened at 10:00 a.m., I started calling. The phone rang and rang and rang. Nobody was answering at the tire center. I finally got through at noon. I asked for Julius and he came to the phone. He remembered me from the night before. I told him what had happened. His response was "I guess you drove over a nail on your way home last night" I replied, "I highly doubt it. The chances of having a flat tire within blocks from home are very slim". He then said, "There's lots of construction around Costco". I then said, "How can you help me with my flat tire?" His response was "Don't you have an uncle or a brother who can change your flat?" I said, "As a matter of fact "I do, but it's not their responsibility to fix my flat. I just bought 4 new tires and I think it's Costco's responsibility to help me". He said, "Just get your car here and we'll help you." I then said' "How can I get my car to Costco when I have a flat tire?" Julius was stumped. He really had nothing more to say. So I asked him one more time if Costco could help me with this problem and he said "no". So, I took another taxi back home at the end of my work day. The mechanic advised me that the valve stem on the tire wasn't tight. That's why my tire was flat. So, the next day, I called Costco..............many many times. Nobody answered the phone. I have tried calling a number of times, but I still cannot get through. I decided to go to the store and I was told that Julius was not working. So, instead of using up my valuable time, I decided to stop calling. It's unfortunate that my experience at Costco was a bad one. Will I continue to shop at Costco. Most definitely. I love their products. Would I ever return to their tire center? Most probably not. It's really unfortunate, but I blame Julius for this one. Not Costco. read more
