I love Costco, but you guys need to improve product control. I remember two summers ago when I wanted oranges and each bag had at least three rotten fruit, a couple weeks ago I sighed looking at the 2% of milk and how one stack that should have been stacked on the bottom (because the due date was further away) was in front while the due date that was sooner on the bottom. I have no idea why when I buy milk seems to go bad from Costco than other stores. I have milk in my fridge right now that is supposed to have another week and a half to go but it is already starting to smell sour. Once I even found a dead maggot in a pepper though I will grant I am a long time customer, it was only once, you can't see inside a pepper until it is cut, and their peppers are usually pretty good. However after seeing a little thing here and a little thing there...it starts to become disappointing. This is the icing on my cake. Why is there a bag of jerky that is OBVIOUSLY bad front and centre to be sold? It looks like the container is decently full and should have been noticed, but it is not. Please do better. Lets start by saying the only time I go to Costco is when a friend calls up and asks if I want to join them. I live alone so Costco to me is just not a place for me for groceries or anything. This store for some reason is so disorganized and a mess unlike the Nisku location ( which I prefer to go to ). Anyway, the parking lots are well spaced - which you never see anywhere else. The only thing was - empty shopping carts were all over the place and no one out there to collect them. So when we got inside getting a cart was about scarce as water in a dessert. I actually had to go outside to get one to use. Now the fun part... hot dogs $1.50.. yes please !!!! Clothing department was a complete disaster- it was a mess beyone anything I ever saw. I mean does no one just try to fold it up instead of just throwing it back on the shelf. As I walked around, there was a few samples being handed out but I resisted- probably because one was a plant based " Burger ".. pass ! I had enough of vegan food after dating a vegan for awhile. We got what we needed and headed to the check out counters. I did notice they have a self checkout area now as well. The line ups were long but wow it went really quick. I was impressed as to how quick they process their customers. The gas bar also had a long line - gas was $1,39 a liter ( nice change there ). Now to see other gas stations do the same. So basically .. Costco is great for families and bulk purchases .. or if you have a vacuum sealer this place is great for everything gigantic. read more

Motorists BEWARE!! When you fill up at this gas station (91st branch), ensure you record a clip of what kind of petroleum you select as they will cheat on their customers. On May 13,2024 around the closing time at 9:17 PM, I filled up my vehicle with REGULAR gas @ pump #9 ($1.378/L.....hit the giant "Regular" button TWICE), yet, after I finished and checked with my receipt, I noticed I was charged with PREMIUM gas ($1.629/L), then I pressed the service assistance button multiple times, no staff showed up. Next, I walked to the booth where I found this gas attendant, he was not busy and just stood there doing nothing, I explained my fill up was overcharged, he insisted that I selected the premium gas as shown in the receipt. In order to avoid further misunderstanding, I requested to check with the surveillance camera to prove that I indeed selected the regular gas. He claimed he has no access to the security recordings (I believe he has no access to his brain too). He even gave me an absurd excuse that when I picked up the nozzle, part of the rubbery hose might have accidentally touched the gas selection button, he said is a possibility but not necessarily happened in my case. So I told him that button does not function like the screen of a smart phone or tablet which is touch sensitive, you need to apply certain amount of force to that button to confirm the selection. I even asked him to demonstrate this so-called "possible trigger" action and of course he failed to do so. His hypothesis is totally invalid. Eventually, he called the store manager named "Gurpal". After she got my contact number, I was told they will investigate this incidence after examining the security footage. Now, 10 days + later still no response whatsoever. I guess is true, as other reviewers mentioned, the staff at this branch are trained to ignore their customers' complaints. read more

Horrible staff member at 91 st Edmonton Costco. Went in to complete returns at customer service. Had to stop at the restroom and the staff member snatched my bag with my paid for merchandise and receipt. States that we must allow her to hold our bag while we went to the restroom. when we went to Customer service after using the restroom our bag was nowhere to be found and the employee was also nowhere to be found. We had to search for an available staff member to radio the employee as nobody at the customer service desk could tell us where this bag was. After the bag was found the employee rudely interrupted our return transaction at customer service stating "do we have a situation here". Telling us that after she took our stuff she had to do a security check and took our bag with her!!!! read more

Terrible Customer Service. Purchased 7 hunter douglas blinds from costco a few months ago. Paid over $5400 for them. Within a few months one of the wands broke off. The blind was stuck open and it was over +30. Contacted costco who said the part was ordered. It took over a month for the part to be received. I sent numerous emails stating that I was unhappy with the blinds. Costco says 100% customer satisfaction which I have experienced for myself is not true. Every one of my emails didn't answer back within the time frame they specified. They advised that my emails were being to the appropriate team. The run around was ridiculous. Bottom line they dont care if you have any issues despite paying over $5400 for their products. Save yourself tons of grief and DO NOT PURCHASE BLINDS from them. Any issues your money is wasted and they at the end of the day do not care about customer satisfaction as they claim. The statement is dishonest and will not be honored. STAY FAR AWAY. read more

I have been a Costco member for 30+ years. I had never tried their optical service and thought I would give it a try. The price was the same as the quote I got from my opticians office. I always get the anti glare coating. After 18 months the coating started to lift leaving white splotches on my lenses. When addressed in the optical department I was responded with "well you are almost due for a new renewal". My lenses have not changed in years, I responded and, new glasses are not necessarily the purpose of an optical exam. I am not made of money and do not like to have anyone assume that that is a given. Money is hard earned and extra money is a rarity for some people in these times. So Costco is a warehouse store and they all have a certain amount in common: you need to have a membership, the wares are pretty similar, there are lots of free samples, the food court is pretty busy, and it is often very easy to spend more money than expected. This location is no exception. That said the food court seems unusually crowded here as there are more people eating than there are tables often times. On March 01st I fell in their parking lot and when I asked for a manager hoping for some first aid or ice pack they didn't do anything. Even the person who called for management didn't help. Then when I was ready to leave I commented how shameful management is and an employee asked me to wait and then she brought out two different manager. They were also useless for not getting me first-aid. Akiba told me that there isn't enough snow for snow removal from the people who are contracted to remove it. You can't seem to beat Costco gas prices which is the main reason anyone would get their gas here. They also have staff standing outside directing traffic flow to the pumps and helping out and cleaning up as required. Usually there is a line-up and the line flows fairly quickly. They have the pumps spaced out well so vehicles can pull around a customer in front of them to let the next person get gas. It is tight but efficient. My only criticisms would be (but they aren't all negative): 1) Members only (which is good as that it limits line-ups). 2) Costcos typically aren't close by so if you aren't planning a Costco trip it may be out of your way (I think the gas is an enticement to get people to shop in store of course) 3) If gas prices drop considerably expect a big line-up! read more

There's not much more than I love than efficiency other than a deal! The Costco gas station offers both: discount gas and a good feeding system, so I spend less time waiting to gas up and more time driving around using gas, getting ready to need the Costco gas station again :-) The gas station monitors are so sweet, so helpful, that it breaks my heart to see them battling the cold wind and driving rain. It always makes me so happy to be able to greet them and thank them for their work. The only thing I don't love are the occasional tangles in line caused by people who are somehow flummoxed by pouring gas, or using a credit cards, or the general concept of queues. Grrr. Costco is fantastic! I don't know how people survived without it! Costco has saved me so much money that I don't even blink at paying my membership fee each year. It's sooooo worth it. Something that a lot of people don't know about Costco is that they have great meat. This is the best place in the whole city to get meat in my opinion. The quality is top notch. I also love Costco because of all the yummy food samples they have throughout the store. It's always a treat! I got my winter boots at Costco and the are not only comfy and stylish (they look like Uggs), they are so warm it's ridiculous. And they were only $40! Take that Uggs! $40 and I have toasty, good looking feet for the whole winter! I love buying wholesale items because you don't have to make as many shopping trips. Costco is amazing. I use several Costco locations in the city -- I'm assuming that b/c they're so similar, that every Costco is about the same. I figure, then, that my review isn't going to help you much. Instead? Some suggestions on how to shop: 1. Please look at what you have at home in order to avoid buying yet another stack of 24 items that takes two years to get though (believe me, this is the voice of experience). 2. You may wish to compare prices before buying -- there are many things at Costco which are the same price as Safeway but you don't have to store 24 of them. 3. You want to time your visit to avoid the long line-ups, although I must admit, even the long line-ups only take 10 minutes -- it just looks daunting. 4. Park the furthest distance from the door -- that way, you don't have to drive too far to get out of the parking lot, and it gives you a chance to shake off the "holy cow, I can't believe I just endured another trip to Costco". 5. Please return the cart to a cart corral. C'mon, be kind. It's the equivalent of holding a door open, rewinding the VHS tape, not smoking at the entrance of a building, you know? 6. So I'll be frank...it's gas...nothing more... no convenience shop, no washroom, no wiper fluid or wipers to window wash while you fill. Completely self-serve & pay at the pump. Here's the perks: it's strictly for those with Costco membership, the gas hose can extend to the opposite side of your vehicle if you chose the wrong line, you can set it to pump while you stay warm in your car in winter, and I've always noticed that gas price is considerably cheaper at Costco than most other competitors. However, timing of when you go makes a huge difference; afternoon rush hour, the lineup is pretty darn long & crowded. But, a lot of people don't know that they are open at 06:30AM. It's perfect for me to go first thing because there's hardly a lineup & I can squeeze in a pit stop on my way to work. I don't have a Costco membership but I kind of wish I did. I stopped by this gas station with a friend and he filled up his tank. He saved about 9 bucks in comparison to anywhere else. I thought I would take advantage of it too but then I realized I needed a member ship. I am not sure how much Costco member ship is but it is most likely worth it for the savings you get. This location is perfect for Southside people. Yes, you do need membership in order to shop here but it's worth the products in store due to bulk sizes. Keep in mind though that because they sale in bulk it costs a bit more than your average item. Place is always busy no matter what time of day. Atmosphere is spacious but traffic filled with people pushing carts. They do have a gas pump at this location. Staff is friendly and Parking is always busy near the front but you'll be able to find space further away from entrance. Food here is quite reasonable for your money. So if your in for the food, take a gander because they have good deals. Washrooms are well kept. As for products they carry a wide selection plus stuff you don't see at other stores, like unique chips such as parmesan chips. Cool play sets for children, books and electronics for the tech savvy people. Recommended for anyone looking to spend good money on good products. read more

I think I might be the only person in the world who really doesn't like Costco. I personally don't have a membership so all of my experiences here have been accompanying friends that do. I hate the anxiety-inducing crowds, I hate how disorganized it is, I hate how they don't always have the same products week-by-week, and I hate that they check your receipt when you leave to make sure you didn't steal anything. That last one especially annoys me. It really doesn't make me feel like a valued customer when you assume the worst. Maybe have better security if you have a theft problem? All of that being said, I get why some people like it (hence my 3 star rating). I live alone so I really don't benefit from buying in bulk. If you can manage to go through a flat of Alpha-Getti in a reasonable amount of time, more power to you. You will save a lot of money if you're careful about what you buy. However, I find that any savings at Costco tend to be lost on impulse purchases. "hmmm I think I really could use a gallon of Nutella". No... you probably don't need that. read more

This is my least favourite of all the Costcos. It's been the closest to my house for nearly a decade now, but I try to go to the Sherwood Park one when I can. The Costco model itself is fantastic. I don't mind the membership price because of how much I save on everything (and once the gas bar popped up, it immediately doubled it's value). However - here's the issues with this location. There are 5 entrance/exits, but it's still ridiculous to try and get in and out. I often see people pushing carts full of stuff out to the street in the surrounding industrial area, where they've parked their cars. I don't know if that's because they couldn't find a spot, or they didn't want to deal with the hassle of trying to get in an out, but either way, we should all be able to peacefully park in the parking lot. Once inside the store, it's usually pandemonium. I can't even pinpoint it to one issue, but it always seems to be crazy in there. Costco is a clusterf*ck of the highest order. Sure, it seems simple enough: buy a lot of a few products to save money. But the frustration of actually being in their stores seems to trump any benefit of savings. Put another way: is it worth saving a couple bucks in products when you wind up suffering the opportunity cost of having to deal with the crush of brainless humanity that seems to occupy the store. The answer is "sometimes." Be really selective about the times you go to Costco. Forget about weekends, and think about evenings. People who go during shopping prime time seem to forget common courtesy, and I think that because Costco aisles are so large they behave in ways they wouldn't in a normal-sized supermarket. One of the big plusses of Costco is their clothing and non-food merchandise. They have a lot of selection and well priced. But like I said, make sure you go at the right time, or you'll want to find a shotgun muzzle to wrap your lips around... after to take out a few of the more rude shoppers first (Note: I obviously mean this as a joke. Costco is a lovely store if you're someone looking to buy in bulk. Even though I'm single, I've often found great deals at Costco for things I am certain to use. For instance, I love Kashi's cereal and know that it is something I will use up with ease. The 1 kg box of Kashi cereal costs roughly $9.00 at Costco, while the 400 gm packet at Save On Foods costs $6.50. So, you do the math! There's a huge list of other things like that. For instance, Starbucks beans in bulk are so cheap here! Also, if you go to the gym often and are someone who has protein bars and granola bars. I can tell you with certainty that they've got great money savers in that department as well. Of course, the famous one is the paper towels and bath towels. Everyone seems to remember to take those from Costco. They're very useful if you have a house with 2-3 washrooms. Of course, having said all that, there's a membership fee of $50 per year (I think). I haven't renewed mine because I don't know if I can somehow save $50 a year on groceries and other things. I'm sure that if I had a family I'd be getting quite a few things here. The really good thing about Costco is that the quality is good. People tend to say Costco and Walmart in the same breath, but truth be told Walmart is cheap stuff for cheap while Costco is good stuff in bulk. Case in point: Kashi is an organic cereal. The fresh produce and meat is also of quite a decent quality This particular branch of Costco is also useful since they refill barbecue cylinders. It's also in the quieter area of the south end, yet close enough to Southgate for those who are looking to pile a few things together one Saturday. South side Costco, oh how I love to hate you! The parking lot is always mayhem, be it a weekday morning or a weekend afternoon. It usually takes one or two loops of the lot before I ever find a spot but what can you do? I come to Costco for the savings and it never disappoints. I stock up on my cleaning supplies, frozen foods, beverages, snacks, pretty much everything but produce as it comes in too large of quantities for 1 person to consume before it spoils. I usually come in for a few specific items and end up grabbing a new released novel (way less than the book stores sell for), possibly a piece of clothing or two, and more often than not I will find that perfect something for so and so's birthday/shower/housewarming etc that is coming up. The check out process can be a little hairy, there are not always clearly defined lines - just a mass of carts, but these cashiers move fast and you are out in no time. And on your way out you can grab a hot dog and pop for $2- what could be better? And one thing that I LOVE about Costco is that they stand behind their products. If it doesn't work out, you change you mind, or it breaks down 6 months later, they will take it back. No hassles and no questions. Well worth the minimal annual membership fee. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with Costco; I love going there, but I really hate the lineups. Though it's a "members only" store, I've found the membership fee can be recovered with just a few visits, and that's without heaping cartloads at the tills. Their photo printing is great, their meat department is pretty awesome, and their bakery department is quite good. There are certain things that make sense to buy in bulk (toilet paper, for example), and certain things that are evil (a box of chocolate bars). Man this is a tough place to review because you gotta put in a little work to make this a good experience and then ya, it's 4 star worthy. But if you show up willy nilly, sister/brother you are going to have a bad time! So my first suggestion, show up early! Like right when it opens! Then you can get your stroll on, look at the clothing, etc. prepare yourself for a haul! Don't think you're going to pop in and pop out. Take that out of your expectations and you'll have a much better time! If you go at peak times you are going to feel a bit like a cow in the heard. They also usually have a good seafood selection as well. The other side of the store is mostly electronics, housewares, hardware, office supplies, sporting goods and both large and small appliances. The centre of the store is seasonal goods, toys, books, music and DVDs, clothing and some candy aisles. Most stores now have a pharmacy, photo finishing, an optical dispensary and a tire store (usually with a separate entrance). There are some limitations: Costco's prices (50% to 70% off) are a result of special buys and overstocks. So, there isn't a broad selection of brands. Some items may only be available in one brand. There are not a lot of sales (prices are low already). Generally, it's a standard 11% on top of their cost. Also, while they sell electronics, they're selling overstocks or distress buys, so there isn't usually a manufacturer's warranty. They offer a replacement warranty on most electronics. Costco also sells their own Kirkland brand mostly in groceries and clothing. There is nothing second quality about their house brand and it's often a really good buy especially on staples like underwear, socks and sportswear. All and all, despite some limitations, it's a smart way to save some money. Even if you don't qualify to be a member, you probably know a member you can go with or who'll get you a day pass. I went in tonight to ask if the tire center would enforce this ridiculous new policy where they refuse to put 2 new tires on the front of my car...they insist they should go on the back. I was caught off guard when they came back and said they couldn't install 2 tires at all! I had to buy 4 tires or they couldn't install them for safety reasons! Since when do these stores take away my right to decide what my acceptable level of risk is??!! Someone gets sued in the US and suddenly we are treated like infants who can't make our own decisions! This is the only costco gas station in Edmonton, and yes, the savings are worth it! This gas station opened up last summer and it is pretty much the only place we gas up anymore. We save on average $10+ on every fill compared to other gas stations. That being said, you do need to have a costco membership to use their gas station. Memberships start at $55 a year and save you a ton of money. The only annoying thing about this place is that you can only use debit or credit cards here. You could have all the cash in the world, and none of it will be accepted here. Also, they don't sell anything else at the stations, so if you are the type of person who likes their gas with a slurpee and some beef jerky, this is not the place to go. If you are the type of person who wants to save a ton of money in the long run, get a membership and start gassing up here! read more

The savings from 5 fill ups will pay for the price of $55 Costco membership, everything else is gravy. My baby only takes premium so was feeling the pinch of going to esso all the time. Costco premium priced the same as regular unleaded at the mainstream stations. Seems to be as good too: no change in performance or mileage. The only drawback is the hours (open during store hours only) and the lack of convenience - sometimes it's a pain in the ass to get in and out of the costco parking lot full off minivans...but there's a tradeoff to everything. read more

This Costco is always ridiculously busy, and there is never anyone around to help out. To save time, shopping for a wedding, I decided to have the person who was paying for this part of the event buy a large gift card. That way he didn't have to endure the long lineups and wall to wall people. What I met when I got to the checkout, was a clueless employee and a rude manager. Upon requesting the gift card, I was informed that the gentleman I was with, wasn't on my membership and that he couldn't pay with his AMEX. I attempted to explain the situation, and when that failed I asked for supervisor. She came over and like a corporate robot explained her companies policy and how credit card purchases can be declined after they are made. Not only were we insulted, we left without making the purchase. This condescending manager cost her store a $750.00 purchase. I'll happily go somewhere else where any card can be used, and a membership isn't required. I won't be renewing mine next year. read more
