Costco is a warehouse type store with large quantity selling of items in many departments. Food is the biggest department of the store with fresh foods (meats, dairy, fruits and vegetables, baked good such as desserts) as well as dry goods (coffee and tea, snacks), and frozen foods (appetizers, main entrees and desserts. Beverages are also sold, such as soda pop, coffee and tea, water, to name a few. Costco also has a fair sized pharmacy where you can find anything that the regular pharmacy sells, plus a prescription counter and an optometrist department. Clothes, furniture, cameras and electronics are also sold. When you are done shopping, many can be hungry, but thankfully there is a restaurant on location. And if you are in need of fuel for your vehicle, or need a tire change, Costco offers these services. Shopping at Costco does require a membership to shop there. There is personal membership (Gold Star and Executive Member), and business membership. All have different membership fees and do offer different benefits for each. I like shopping at Costco and this location is no exception. Historically I would visit this one as it was close to my old union office but we still sometimes come here when we're in this area of town. As it isn't the Costco I'm most familiar with, sometimes we spot things here we wouldn't otherwise but it isn't quite organized the same as our preferred Costco location so that sometimes hampers our experiences. There is a huge parking lot and it is a bit awkward to access from the street given the land configuration/road configuration but it is a pretty decent place to shop, just like any other Costco! read more

Parking spots are extra sized over standard, car doors open so you can load and not crash into your neighbour. No other business offers that! Sadly there are still inappropriately placed cart corrals and people leave them everywhere. You'd think Costco would have figured it out by now. Especially in Canada where the snow makes it difficult to manouvre the carts back halfway to the store to park them properly. They need to add cart corrals at either end of the rows as well as the middle This location has re-aligned its centre aisles and the waiting/lineup area for the cashiers is MUCH smaller, completely inadequate. Disappointing. The lineup to pay AND exit on Dec 29 impossible... lineups for cashiers were far up the aisles in every direction... it's close quarters and challenging to try & cross the lines to get to the other side! There's nowhere for anyone to move TO! Exiting the store - again, lines. I usually like to visit when I know exactly what I want, where it is, and exit, but without self-checkout or express lines......... Red Deer Costco wins that one with self-checkout, and often more cashiers than anywhere else. read more

Not my favourite location cuz the entrance and exit is challenging. The parking lot is kinda spread out compared to other locations. Also there is no gas station or liquor store. I'm used to the St Albert location and this store is the opposite/reverse set up so it's a little disorienting. They recently increased the annual fee and the executive card is now $120/year. That means you need to spend $3000 per year to recoup the $60 premium for executive membership since Costco gives a 2% cash back as an executive. Honestly we don't spend that much so it's not worth keeping the executive card. Maybe that will change but you can upgrade whenever you want. If you end up making a large purchase you can upgrade on the spot and get the cash back on that receipt. read more

I love Costco... Anyone that knows me, knows I love my Costcos. This location is pretty average/consistent amongst the other Costcos in town. They offer a gas bar but no liquor store and no propane. This isn't my home Costco but we still pop in here when on the West end or looking for something my Costco is out of. The staff are efficient and the products consistent. My kids like coming to Costco because they can usually weasel me into buying something they like from a sample lady and/or can talk me into getting them lunch or supper at the Food Court. Their slices of pizza for $1.99 are HUGE and they will cut them into 2 pieces if you ask. You can't beat the value on a $1.50 hot dog and refillable pop combo. My 6 year old always asks if we can get a side of vanilla ice cream to make root beer floats :-) I also find their cappuccinos and lattes quite decent for $1.99 in the Food Court. This location can be kind of a pain in regard to parking and traffic so pick your time of day wisely but otherwise, they'll have you covered for 99% of your Costco needs. read more

I shopped at this location last week only to return to my car with a shopping cart smashd into the headlight wedged between my front headlight and the car next to mine. Despite hearing maintenance staff outright refusing to do their job assignment and clear away carts and arguing with management in front of customers by the cashier, nobody is held accountable. Manager's covering their hide by outright lying abput their arguments and liability insurance shifting blame to wind. This pertains to Costco Optical. I recently bought a membership card in Mexico. It was cheaper to buy it there. I brought my prescription with me from another store. I looked through the frames and narrowed it down to 3 pair pretty quickly. They have a decent selection, but not oodles of designers. I took a picture of my favourite one and texted it to my sister and my daughter. They both approved, so I went to talk to the optician. Jessie was great. Super friendly and efficient. I explained I needed a progressive lens. No problem. She quoted the price right away. $390.00. I texted my sister and asked if that was a good price. She said yes. The fitting was done and she said they'd be ready in a week. I asked her if she could make my old reading glasses fit a bit better in the meantime. She told me it would be at my own risk. She heated and bent them. They fit great. They don't take VISA. There is an ATM that only charges .70 cents per transaction. My glasses came in on time and they are great. Jessie did the final fitting. I also asked Jessie if she could make my sunglasses fit better. Again, she said at my own risk. She took her time because they were old and very misshapen from wearing them on my head. They turned out great. I'm very happy with the customer care and the prices at Costco. read more

People working there are human and respond to good treatment, complainers should give that a try sometime. since it is a mega wharehouse, you can not expect boutique style personalized service. Although I have at times received as such. During the pandemic when many were working from home, they worked at the frontline to satisfy your needs, exposing themselves to undoubtedly infected individuals. I come here during the day to avoid the weekend rush - very worth it! Has everything you need including optical center, pharmacy and a cafeteria to grab a super good (but super unhealthy) lunch, ice cream or coffee. We have the Executive Membership and it's well worth the $120 fee. We buy groceries for 2 people only and can say that the 2% cash back pays for the membership itself. We also save enough money through a 1-2 months of regular grocery shopping to more than pay for the membership fee. Getting household essentials is here where you save big money (e.g., toilet paper, paper towel, kitchen, cleaning and bathroom supplies, etc). It's simply a waste of money to buy things like contact solution or laundry detergent elsewhere. Buying food here can be more challenging but we still get alot of things. Cereal, milk, frozen fruit and veggies, meats that we can then freeze because it comes in such high volumes, protein powder, gum, etc. We also buy some random stuff when it becomes available or when there are sales (e.g., we saved $50 on a Heat Dish, have bought a tv there for $100 less than Best Buy, Bose speakers and more. Their prepared meals can also be quite good. We buy prepared Greek Salad and Quinoa salad all the time that is healthy and comes in huge portion sizes that we can use for lunch throughout the week. The Quinoa salad is $10 and lasts us more 5-8 lunches. The only downside to Costco is you have to use their MasterCard or Visa for purchases or else use your debit card. The downside to this location is it doesn't have the variety of stock that, say, the Southside Costco might have, nor does it have the tremendous seating of that store's canteen near the exit, but it's worth it for the shorter lines. And, like all Costcos, expect the high pressure sales tactics to get you to bump your standard membership up to an Executive card every time you check out. read more

Pretty solid Costco as far as costcos go. Their tyre centre has been pretty good every time I've gone and they have a gas bar at this location (which not all of them do). They have great deals and you can get almost everything you would need all under one roof. They have everything from furniture to food to a pharmacy and optometrist. The selection is the same as any other costos. The only thing I wish they had was an adjacent liquor store. The service isn't spectacular but it's Costco, it's a warehouse. The expectations are definitely not that high for service. Most of the staff are friendly enough. Lines are always super long so plan ahead and give yourself an extra 10 minutes of standing in line, even if it's a Tuesday morning. Overall, it's a good place to shop at and now that they've finally dropped American Express, maybe it's even a good idea to get their MasterCard! If it's near you, it's a good enough location to definitely make it your regular Costco! read more

This isn't my Costco but not bad overall! We are closer to the St. Albert which is newer and has bigger isles. This location though seemed to have more variation in their stock and even had a nice display of sales items that were located conveniently close to the line ups. On that note the few times I have been here the line ups are pretty consistently backed up and seem too close to the isles so a little too confined for my shopping pleasure. GOverall the floorpan itself is a little confusing but if you have time and not too many children following you around the products seem to pop out in a different order and therefore seem exciting even if you have accidentally walked by them in other locations. Once they have a liquor store....hint hint...I may just come here for a change once in awhile. read more

I had an eye exam and also purchased glasses from this location. I really appreciated that they are available on weekends. The optometrist was great. She thoroughly explained each step and made sure I was comfortable along the way. At the end of my exam she also went over the details of my prescription and advised me of options based on what my needs were. The frames were so reasonably priced that I ended up purchasing 2 pairs of glasses as there was a promotion of $50 off the second pair. This is a review for the tire centre only and specifically winter tires. I've shopped around a lot and found costco to be the cheapest on the service side. They are also cheapest on the product side, but their competitors will almost always match the price for the tires. I found the service here awful, near nightmarish. You book an appointment and it takes 2 hours to put on your tires. So you should look at the appointment as they will do your tires sometime during the day, not at the time you have booked. I would plan for a ride if you don't fell like spending 2 hours coasting the aisles of Costco. Also, they needed to re-torq my tires after a few kilometers so that requires going back. So double the chaos! One needs to be careful and factor in this wait time before choosing somebody. The price was right in product. The service costs you in other ways. Keep that in mind. read more

If you need massive amounts of everything at bulk prices, this is the place to be. But if you're a childless couple, you can't buy fewer than 4 dozen toilet paper rolls at a time. Why did we buy those? I do actually like the outdoorsy kind of section, especially in summer. They have a decent selection of patio furniture, swing sets, tents, etc. And if your dude doesn't care that much about where his socks and underwear are bought, then stock up, baby. In terms of food though? Too much, too big, and the aisles aren't labeled! One quick tip: don't come here on a weekend or you'll spend as much time in line as you did shopping. Costco is great if you're looking to buy everything in bulk. They have pretty much everything you could want. However, it's just me and my boyfriend, so shopping here for food isn't ideal - we can't (or rather shouldn't) eat 12 croissants in 3 days before they go bad. On the other hand, I do love to buy non-perishables here such as toilet paper, paper towel, cleaning products, etcetera so I don't have to worry about restocking for a very, very long time. People complain about the isles not being labeled. But stores do everything for a reason...it gets you to browse through all the isles. It's a great trick to get you to fill your cart. You know, the old "Ooh! I didn't know I needed that until just now!" thing. But if you've been to Costco once or twice, you'll get to know where everything is generally located. Easy peasy. Also, their little Costco cafeteria.....COSTCO HOTDOGS FOREVER! So delicious. I would go to Costco just to have lunch there if I didn't feel like a total dork doing it. read more

lineups are horrible and hours are shockingly limited for such a popular shopping location but maybe that's part of the success? I love how many free sample booths get set up... but 75% of the time they never have samples ready when I walk by... I guess another victim of their own success? why bother doing these sample booths if they aren't wanting to make samples available? but it sort of does disappoint me how often the sample people seem to be ideally standing around apparently not doing anything while the sample tray is empty. the layout of the store is incredibly disorganized and I can spend a lot of time looking for a product I fell in love with last time. things are never in the same place for long it seams... all that said, I go back to Costco a couple times a month so they are clearly getting more right than wrong. some of their products are amazing and cant be found anywhere else. their selection of fresh fruits/vegitables saves us tons since my wife is always wanting more of this sort of food. I have fallen in love with some of their sliced deli meats/cheeses and the prices cant be beat my main reason for taking the time to do this review though is their little fast food area... the hotdogs are possibly the best value for a fast food meal anywhere in town. $1.50 gets you a hot dog that will fill you up and also get you a pop too. I can stuff 2 dogs in if I really make an effort but there is no way I can do 3 of these huge dogs without feeling like I will explode. these are big big big filling dogs and they get served in a fresh/soft tasty bun. the topping options are a little limited as my dream would be that I could put chilli/hot cheese on one of these dogs like at a 7-11 but the superior quality of the dog/bun and the size and the price make this the goto place to get a 5 star hotdog in Edmonton. the fries... are different. I find them very tasty but they aren't really what you might be expecting at a mcdonalds or wendys type fast food place. price wise the fries are an awesome value and the gravy is cheap to order and very tasty. I always want to order fries with my hotdog but I just cant eat that much. you get A LOT of food for a very cheap price here and the food is way way way better than what you might be expecting from a cafeteria style set up food bar. the dogs and the fries/gravy deserve a 5 star review from me... the pizza is a lot less than 5 stars imo but still good value for what it costs... the overall Costco experience is a 4 star mostly because of how disorganized the shopping experience is and the limited hours the place is open. but more things are right here than they are wrong and I am a regular customer so good job overall Costco... thanks read more

I think I am Costco obsessed. At this point in my life I probably do 90% of all my shopping here. From undies to cucumbers to couches, Costco literally has it all. The Yellow head location is our primary destination but I have probably hit up every other location that is in and around the Edmonton area. All the warehouses are essentially the same give or take a few differences in layout or product availability. Since the St. Albert location opened up last year traffic at this locations has definitely improved. Shorter lines and closer parking, yeah. Really how can you not love a place where you can pick up all your household needs. Plus have a dirt cheap lunch and fill your vehicle with gas that is always a few cents a litre cheaper then just about anywhere else. Can't find what your looking for in the store. No problem. Chances are you'll find it online at costco.ca. read more

If you ever buy electronics like tvs or iPods, Costco has fantastic return policies. They might not be the cheapest deal in town, but you'll never have problems returning anything broken or defective. I bought a tv here in the summer and the price dropped in December. I happened to be in the store so I asked about price adjustments at customer service. I figured it didn't hurt to ask and still had the receipt in my wallet -- they gave me the $100 difference 4 months after my purchase! Bought an iPod here too -- dropped it and cracked the screen two weeks after purchase (oops) and they replaced it too. I've always been impressed with their product support. I'd love to see better selection with computers here. They tend to only carry mediocre brands like Gateway. If they carried a few stronger brands I'd just buy my computer upgrades / systems here too. read more

Word to the wise: You don't need to be a Costco member to use the Costco Pharmacy! Just go in, and when they ask to see your card, say you're going to the pharmacy (and no, you can't do this to actually shop there since you'll need to produce a card at the checkout). Even though I'm not a Costco member, this is absolutely my pharmacy of choice - their dispensing fee is only $4.50 (literally less than half the cost of most places), and since most insurance plans don't cover the dispensing fee this can really save you $$. They're also pretty quick - it usually takes about 30 min for them to fill a prescription. :) I also love grabbing a hot dog and pop for $1.50 while I wait - just make sure you have change since the cafeteria section is cash only. read more

Costco has about everything you need...in bulk or super jumbo-sized family packs. It is great if you want to stockpile on toilet paper or cereal, not so much if you're buying electronics or furniture. The place is well spaced and clean for most of the time. Prices on the produce and meat are decent and I especially love their rotisserie chicken. They're always juicy and flavourful! They have a big selection of clothing though there's no change room to try them on so be careful on the size or you'll end up returning back for an exchange. Weekends are ridiculously busy. Whenever coming here, it always seems like a battle for the elusive, empty parking space which doesn't get any better inside when waiting in line at the cashier. Both of these points can unfortunately take a toll on your shopping trip so come early or go on a weekday. The chain is membership-only but aside from a few deaIs here and then, I don't really see the point onto buying a membership card. Tagging along with a friend or family member who has one would be the easier, alternative way on getting in. read more

I came here on a quick last minute trip to pick up some fresh fruit & veggies for the household. I live downtown so this is the closest Costco to get to. I find it to be quite busy most of the time.... and finding parking can be tricky, unless of course you're willing to park far from the get go. It also pays to go closer to closing time as it is less busier at that time, although you run the risk of not finding an item you want because it's sold out. This location has a great selection in my opinion as I usually can find the item i'm looking for. Customer service is adequate to good at times. Costco has everything. Literally everything. From bulk food items to computer, books, and even clothing. It always surprises me what you can find at Costco. This location is always busy, but more so during the weekends. Recently I was in the market for a new GPS device for Christmas, and when I thought I found the best deal at Bestbuy, I found the exact same model that was atleast 10% cheaper! Costco is also samples heaven, especially during the weekend. What my family and I buy mainly here are their meats. That's right, they have a very good selection and everything has been top notch. It is a bit difficult to get service, so you better know what you want. For parties, or for less frequent shopping trips, it is very convenient (and cheaper) to buy everything bulk. I love how every food item is super sized in the store as well, so it will either keep you fed for a long time, or your guests won't be complaining that they are hungry anytime soon. Keep in mind that they do not always have the best deals here, however they are very competitive regardless. Also note that you do need to have a membership to purchase, let alone enter the store, but this can be worth it if you buy a lot of food items (and really who doesn't). read more

I've been coming to this Costco two-three times a week and once a week for gas for 5 years, and I've never had a problem here until today. We use my girlfriends membership executive card since we've just renew it every year. it has her picture on it so they know it's her. We went to the till and as I reach into my wallet to pay... The cashier rudely in a loud voice saying that I cannot pay because I'm not a member. (First time in 5 years this happened) I gave the debit card to my girlfriend to she can pay with my card, the cashier into a frenzy called the manager. I instructed to the manager I've never had a problem paying for items. This is my girlfriends Costco card, we live together, what's the problem if I pay. We were literally here two days ago and bought and iPad. So I take my cart and just went to self check out , paid and no problem there. That's why I don't understand the hoopla about non members paying. Just go to self check out. Makes no sense at all. I would give this place 1 or 2 out of 5 if it wasn't for Kurt. This is my local Costco, & while the newer ones are substantially larger & have liquor stores.. This one still holds me in due to the convenience & ease of getting around & in & out of the gas station ( which is normally cheaper than anywhere else I might add!). The stock is always fresh & if a return is necessary it is generally met without hassle. You can get everything from your next cell phone or eye glasses to flowers for your wife here (hint hint). Food for a BBQ, the pop & the patio furniture or hammock needed to be comfy @ said BBQ! Passport photos, prescriptions, milk & eggs. Costco has it all & if you are in a hurry pick up some poutine & ice cream on the way out! Yes you need to know your prices.. Not every deal is a good deal especially compared to sale flyer pricing.. But that's the same anywhere you go. For the most part though, value for the quality will win over here every time. To get more stars for this location, add a liquor store, it makes me jealous of the other Costcos that have one & have more people working the customer service desk.. This is one of the smaller Costcos in town. Normally I don't come to this location but we stopped by one weekend afternoon because it was nearby. I wouldn't say it was a mistake to stop by but the parking situation was terrible. Seriously, Costcos are huge but this location has two entrances yet only one exit. There's an odd four way stop near the entrance of the building which nobody really obeys because it's always jammed. Traffic comes to a stand still because vehicles are waiting to make a left turn at the light onto 149 Street. Avoid this location at peak hours if possible. read more

Their prices on electronics really aren't as good as some people would have you believe, and computer stuff is usually more expensive than if you went to a specialty computer store.
