Chef Zach got us started on Veal Tonnato, a beautifully seared piece or veal with carrot, celery and onion along with some fresh herbs and white wine. We made a lovely sauce to top the veal with egg yolks, olive oil, capers, parsley, anchovy fillets, tuna (which we skipped), and vinegar. It was perfectly cooked, flavourful and oh so tender! The pasta was agnolotti with escarole and ricotta. Since we've made pasta at home many times, so we basically rocked this out! It was a filled pasta with veg and ricotta, ground chestnuts and herbs. Very veg forward but incredible flavours! We shared our pasta with some lovely young ladies who's dish didn't turn out well (not their fault). The dessert was gnocchi fritti, which is basically a zeppole. Yummy fried yeast dough sprinkled with powdered sugar. It was crispy on the outside and tender in the inside and surprisingly tender! Chef Zach is a great teacher, he had lots of good tips and kept the class moving along at a decent pace. We enjoyed some lovely red wine with our food and while we were cooking which always helps. It was a busy day in the Sorrentino's kitchen with lots of catering going on but the other chefs still had time to answer all my questions about what they were doing. Chef Jeff was very helpful and interesting to talk to! I absolutely adored the cooking class. I LOVED being in their kitchen and chatting with all the chefs!!! Today absolutely validated the cooking skills I have, gave me some new ideas and reignited my inner foodie passion! I'm so ridiculously in love with this place!

The place was quite neat and well organized. The instructor started off by getting everyone an apron and providing some basic safety guidelines. Then she moved on to explain what they were going to cook for that session. The instructor got the the kids who were in the 6-10 year old range engaged quite well. The kids made some tacos, some guacamole as well as mockaritos (virgin margaritas) as well. I can't comment on the taste of the food because I didn't try it. However the kids seemed to enjoy it and were quick to finish off their plates. Overall the kids enjoyed this unique birthday party experience. I am seriously considering teaming up with them for maybe an office team building session.

There were 9 adults and 4 children (the youngest was 3 years old). Once we entered the kitchen, we separated into our small groups of 2-3 people (mothers paired with their daughters). Pheap (the owner) had already measured and prepared all the ingredients for us. During the class we didn't have to follow any recipes (she shares her recipes via email). We saved a lot of time and were able to make a lot of food! Pheap would demonstrate each step before we would try to do them. She was extremely organized. We had plenty of space to work and all the tools we needed to get the job done. There were sinks nearby so we could wash our hands whenever we needed to. We didn't have to deal with sharp knives, powered kitchen tools or hot ovens, so this activity was safe and kid friendly! We rolled dough, made mini pie crusts, put the crusts into the tins, mixed ingredients and decorated cakes! Pheap put all our food into a fast cooking oven. She did all the planning and hard work for us! All we had to do was relax and have fun! I had an AMAZING time here! In a mere 3 hours, we made mini quiche, mini blueberry pies, scones, macaroons, cucumber sandwiches, strawberry parfaits and we decorated mini 3 tiered cakes! Not only did I experience my first ever High Tea, but I was proud in knowing that I participated in making the food! Afterwards we enjoyed our food in the beautiful dining area! This was an excellent way to spend quality time with family and friends! Check out the menus on the Palates website and see what types of food you might want to make. There are so many options to choose from! I definitely recommend this place!

Some unique items such as quinoa flakes, dog treats, poppycock (caramel popcorn), date squares, flavored sea salt. Ended up buying: Light Rye sourdough $8: so good. Crispy crust, soft fluffy airy centre, light sourdough taste. Bottom was a little dark for my liking but I loved the texture. Sourdough Choc chip cookie $2: boyfriend said it's the best cookie he has ever had. Wonderful texture, big Chocolate chunks, sprinkle of salt on-top. Great price. Dijon Gruyere takeaway: lots of Gruyere which had a light flavor. Great texture. Cheddar chive pocket bread $4: my favorite from here. Flavorful, soft texture. Chocolate pear pocket bread $4: 2 actual peices of pear inside. Chocolate chunks were a little too bitter/dark chocolate for me and fell off the outside. Crust was a little tougher, not one I would get again. Overall amazing bakery definitely making worth a trip to St.Albert.

However, I'm not a wine drinker, so it didn't really feel like a good deal for me. I would've rathered they include the apron instead. The class runs from 6-9pm, which was a little on the later side for me to really want to eat, but I guess when you're running a class on a weekday, you have to accommodate work end times. Class is in a conveniently located Grant Macewan building, and it includes parking in the campus parkade across the street. The classroom is very nice. There's a large family style table and then the kitchen area. The set up of the class itself is a little awkward. We sat around the kitchen prep area, which would've benefited from some mirrors so we can see what the instructor was doing. They do have cameras behind the instructor, but then the TV screens are located behind you, which really doesn't help much at all unless you keep turning around to look at it. The instructor did encourage students to come around and watch, but after a long day at work, sitting and watching is more preferable.. The instructor was good, very informative. The other kitchen staff were nice as well. It was a fun experience, and they offer a variety of classes, it's just the price point is a little on the higher side compared to other cooking classes offered in the city. Take out boxes are provided if you have leftovers or want to share what you've made. Recipes from the class are also provided.

Attending a presentation there this past week, I finally had the opportunity to see what Kitchen by Brad had to offer. At the front of the establishment is a reasonably large room, a perfect venue for the presentation I attended. Offered that evening were a variety of nibbles, presented tapas style, all of which were delicious! Standouts for me were short ribs which were prepared to delicious, tender perfection (unlike many places where they can be tough and/or dry). Two other items that were standouts were wonderfully prepared jumbo prawns in a spicy sauce and a "to die for" stack of candied bacon. Numerous other items were also offered, all well prepared and very tasty. Also offered were above average pairings of a white and red wine, and a very good prosecco. Service was provided by a very capable and friendly young lady and Brad made numerous appearances as well. If you have a meeting, presentation, or moderate sized family gathering, you owe it to yourselves to call Kitchen by Brad and see what they have to offer and if they can accommodate your needs.
