Pork Burger with egg so yummy
Cindy R.

Just went to a pop up dinner event. The food is prepared right in front of you and cooked. They offer cooking classes as well as they do catering. I love the fact they also do house visit where they will come to your house and prepare your fav dish. I definitely want to take some cooking classes for sure. The pork burger with egg cooked in duck fat was super yummy. Can't wait try out some more delicious dishes.

Potato, Leek and Bacon soup
Sophie A.

As I try to find the best soup in the city I come across their popup: Soup and bread - a lunchtime popup. The place wasn't easy to find but they answered their phone giving me excellent directions. I tried their Potato Leek and Bacon soup and OMG it was perfect. They made a chicken broth as a base and added juiced carrots. It had the right amount of acidity, sweetness and salt. I thought for sure it was going to taste too salty b/c of the bacon but nope, it all came together nicely. I appreciated their courage and creativity to try this type of soup without it being a creamy soup. It is a brilliant recipe. One I would love to have. The staff were welcoming and warm. Looking forward to my next visit. I will be following them closely. So far this is the best soup I have found in the city.

Some highlights were the Arctic char, the shrimp that was prepared in front of us, the popover with bacon jam, The devils butter and the short bread cookies. They also created a Xmas cocktail for us. And had a selection of wine beer and scotch. It was a great way to have a party for 22. The service style kept us migleing and chatting.

Attending a presentation there this past week, I finally had the opportunity to see what Kitchen by Brad had to offer. At the front of the establishment is a reasonably large room, a perfect venue for the presentation I attended. Offered that evening were a variety of nibbles, presented tapas style, all of which were delicious! Standouts for me were short ribs which were prepared to delicious, tender perfection (unlike many places where they can be tough and/or dry). Two other items that were standouts were wonderfully prepared jumbo prawns in a spicy sauce and a "to die for" stack of candied bacon. Numerous other items were also offered, all well prepared and very tasty. Also offered were above average pairings of a white and red wine, and a very good prosecco. Service was provided by a very capable and friendly young lady and Brad made numerous appearances as well. If you have a meeting, presentation, or moderate sized family gathering, you owe it to yourselves to call Kitchen by Brad and see what they have to offer and if they can accommodate your needs.

Chef Zach got us started on Veal Tonnato, a beautifully seared piece or veal with carrot, celery and onion along with some fresh herbs and white wine. We made a lovely sauce to top the veal with egg yolks, olive oil, capers, parsley, anchovy fillets, tuna (which we skipped), and vinegar. It was perfectly cooked, flavourful and oh so tender! The pasta was agnolotti with escarole and ricotta. Since we've made pasta at home many times, so we basically rocked this out! It was a filled pasta with veg and ricotta, ground chestnuts and herbs. Very veg forward but incredible flavours! We shared our pasta with some lovely young ladies who's dish didn't turn out well (not their fault). The dessert was gnocchi fritti, which is basically a zeppole. Yummy fried yeast dough sprinkled with powdered sugar. It was crispy on the outside and tender in the inside and surprisingly tender! Chef Zach is a great teacher, he had lots of good tips and kept the class moving along at a decent pace. We enjoyed some lovely red wine with our food and while we were cooking which always helps. It was a busy day in the Sorrentino's kitchen with lots of catering going on but the other chefs still had time to answer all my questions about what they were doing. Chef Jeff was very helpful and interesting to talk to! I absolutely adored the cooking class. I LOVED being in their kitchen and chatting with all the chefs!!! Today absolutely validated the cooking skills I have, gave me some new ideas and reignited my inner foodie passion! I'm so ridiculously in love with this place!

The instructor started off by getting everyone an apron and providing some basic safety guidelines. Then she moved on to explain what they were going to cook for that session. The instructor got the the kids who were in the 6-10 year old range engaged quite well. The kids made some tacos, some guacamole as well as mockaritos (virgin margaritas) as well. I can't comment on the taste of the food because I didn't try it. However the kids seemed to enjoy it and were quick to finish off their plates. Overall the kids enjoyed this unique birthday party experience. I am seriously considering teaming up with them for maybe an office team building session.

Our event was from 1-4 pm. There were 9 adults and 4 children (the youngest was 3 years old). Once we entered the kitchen, we separated into our small groups of 2-3 people (mothers paired with their daughters). Pheap (the owner) had already measured and prepared all the ingredients for us. During the class we didn't have to follow any recipes (she shares her recipes via email). We saved a lot of time and were able to make a lot of food! Pheap would demonstrate each step before we would try to do them. She was extremely organized. We had plenty of space to work and all the tools we needed to get the job done. There were sinks nearby so we could wash our hands whenever we needed to. We didn't have to deal with sharp knives, powered kitchen tools or hot ovens, so this activity was safe and kid friendly! We rolled dough, made mini pie crusts, put the crusts into the tins, mixed ingredients and decorated cakes! Pheap put all our food into a fast cooking oven. She did all the planning and hard work for us! All we had to do was relax and have fun! I had an AMAZING time here! In a mere 3 hours, we made mini quiche, mini blueberry pies, scones, macaroons, cucumber sandwiches, strawberry parfaits and we decorated mini 3 tiered cakes! Not only did I experience my first ever High Tea, but I was proud in knowing that I participated in making the food! Afterwards we enjoyed our food in the beautiful dining area! This was an excellent way to spend quality time with family and friends! Check out the menus on the Palates website and see what types of food you might want to make. There are so many options to choose from! I definitely recommend this place!

The event is put on primarily by Dupe and Seun, however, they have help from other people as well who were there to help explain dishes! "Buka" stands for Nigerian Street Food. I had the opportunity of going to an event at Cafe Levi. They had booked the space and kitchen to be able to host a Nigerian lunch! I am not familiar with Nigerian food at all, so this was a completely new experience for me and my partner. They began with a powerpoint presentation which was actually very helpful because it showed the different types of foods in different areas. We had a chance to look at the different types of Nigerian spices that are used in the food - we passed them around. We were very well educated before we tried the food. They were so nice to accommodate me as a vegetarian! I loved the beans in particular because they were so spicy and delicious. My partner almost died though because it was so hot. it was very funny. I believe they do cooking lessons! I will definitely be trying one of these in 2020 and can't wait! This is definitely an experience that you don't want to miss!

I'd sampled some of their food at a Yelp event in the past but I was so excited to get to try an entire meal. Vegans and vegetarians: there are so many delicious options! We had the peppered broccoli, the vegetarian jollof sushi, the vegetarian buka pies and the jollof rice for dinner with the puff puffs in spicy chocolate and chin-chin poppers for dessert. The jollof rice is pretty spicy (which I liked) and it pairs perfectly with the broccoli. I loved everything and we had plenty of leftovers. The standout is definitely the puff puffs. They're kind of like a mini doughnut covered in chocolate sauce (with a kick). I can't wait to attend a cooking class in the future but at least for now, I'm happy to have the option to order delivery from them on Saturdays.

Serene did tell us that we had the choice to use our own photographer for portfolio photos, but if we used their service, and pay their price which is higher than anyone else ($895 + GST), our daughter would receive additional photo shoots at no charge while she is registered with them. After doing some research, it did seem like a good deal on their end, if we got several photo shoots at their price compared to 1 photo shoot at with another photographer. Since we signed up and paid over 3 months ago, we tried to contact several times to receive these photos, but each time got the run around. We have contacted several people included Better Business Bureau. Since then, all we have got was a false promise to call us back the next day, then 3 days later, we received low quality, unfinished photos with "not for reproduction" in red writing through the middle of each picture. It appears that to avoid any legal action, they have sent us what they figure will fill their obligation. However, who pays a low quality, unfinished photo with writing??? and waits over 3 months to get them? Each time we have phoned them, they had no clue who we were, and no indication that they were trying to solve any issues, as each time we started from the beginning again. The Office had to talk to the Photographer then told us to talk to the photographer, then the photographer told us to talk to reception. We did not sign our daughter up to "Be famous", we signed her up for a hobby but we have realized that our money that spent between the "registration fee" and "photo shoot" were a waste of money, as this business seems to only care about taking peoples money and providing any services or products that they tell you they are going to provide. A company that does value their customer and clients, do not conduct themselves in this manner. In my opinion, anyone looking to explore the modeling industry for themselves or for child SHOULD NOT go to the place.
