I had…read morenever fit in or belonged growing up in school, and with my mental health issues it made school and making friends very difficult. When I moved to Edmonton and started school, that all changed. The teachers were fantastic, passionate about the subjects they taught and very understanding. Not only that, but they have a separate office upstairs for mental health and ability services. The school is LGBTQ+ proactive and friendly, and as far as I knew and what I experienced, most all the students were willing to be friends with others. Kids from all different interest groups would get together to play magic the gathering, no matter the social status. I still am very close with my friends I met there, and it's been a few years.

Students work in a relaxed, non-competitive atmosphere. People work in the school as one big family, helping and encouraging one another. Many students work hard to better themselves, but still think of the group not just of themselves. Students are able to use tilting desk tops or easels. The students can leave Still Life sets up and work on them continually every time they come. The gallery is located throughout the building and is a sumptuous display of artwork. The public is welcome to come in and browse/view the works any time a class is in progress. The visitors are free to talk to the individual students and ask questions regarding their art. Workshops are of numerous types. We have in class drills during regular classes so that we may work altogether on the same theme during that one class, example: painting trees or a face. Occasionally workshops are held Saturday afternoons, Sunday or Thursday mornings. We also have live model drawing and painting classes. When it was time to work on the focus, none of the other students in my class wanted to do web design. So he didn't teach it. I was flabbergasted. When I approached the instructor about it he suggested a few websites. Which weren't free. After taking out loans for 22K I had to PAY to teach myself the skills they promised would be covered. And now I have to payback these loans before I can even go to a proper school. I would give negative stars if I could.

We decided to check out 4 cats clay studio in St. Albert to see how they teach pottery wheel. All I…read morecan say is that it's a waste of money. For one thing if you book a class there is no refund...huh, seriously...so okay fine. It was $30 per person and you only get 2 clay balls to work with. Then if you can even make something it's $20 more for glazing which you need to come back to do in a week. For one thing it's a smaller ball of clay than what we are used to from other classes and it wasn't the greatest of clays. Kinda felt more of a cheap clay. And we didn't have any tools to check clay depth, just a sponge Turning clay standing up with non professional wheels is another disaster waiting to happen for beginners. The wheels had no real control for rotations which makes it super hard to figure out and your back gets fatigued quickly. You gotta be sitting to do pottery, it's supposed to be relaxing and therapeutic. There is zero instruction for when we arrived so we just went for it. Which our projects failed miserably and the so called instructor had only been on the wheel for a week. So basically we were training her...which we felt she didn't care for at all Normally after your done at other shops we would clean up the equipment but she said no (I think to get rid of us faster) luckily she walked away to the front of the store and I told the other couple trying the wheel for the first time to goto Viva Clayworks for a better experience. Save your money and don't go here.

It wasn't even a class, it was video-direction on an iPad. (Fair enough. Maybe that was mentioned in the fine print. I never checked.) Additionally, the staff wasn't at all helpful with any questions. I was brushed off. Again, this is my first ever pottery experience. Pretty salty at this point. Second visit was to paint the items. Again, no help. There were other classes going on in the same room (in-person ones, not video.) I had to ask others painting theirs pieces questions. Luckily, they were very helpful! 3rd visit: Pick up the items, (staff was busy and again, brushed off) one item was smashed and the other was cracked. The glaze wasn't even all the way to the bottom of the pieces. Careless? Inexperience? Who knows. (See photos if I'm able to share them here.) Do not recommend this place. Save your money. Go somewhere else.

She is a…read moregreat teacher, and taught us all of the skills and principals we needed to work confidently on a creative project that was completed by the time our session was over. She made it easy to obtain the supplies for our projects and her easy way made learning about something brand new to me both fun and enjoyable. The work she has done herself is absolutely beautiful.
