Dessert cravings must be taken care of almost immediately (that's a TIP- if you are going over to Flirt Cupcakes). I showed up for the very first time at their Whyte Ave location close to 4 PM on a Saturday and the kind lady at the counter greeted me with a big smile and 6 cupcakes (3 each of two flavors). She suggested to book in advance for a chance to devour on all the other flavors; as they ran out of cupcakes that day. I got my hands on the Fantasy Island (CAD 3.95) cupcake which is a chocolate cupcake with vanilla cream cheese and sweetened coconut. What I love about their cupcakes is how they are not overwhelmingly sweet! The cake is soft and moist and the icing is definitely a winner. The place is small yet so cute; they also sell greeting cards, candles, etc. I am so looking forward to flirting with my way into the weekend with Flirt Cupcakes. Real soon :D

Edit: I got a refund but still it was a one and done for me. Sent them a message asking if the could do a custom design on a cupcake for my sister who was having breast cancer surgery. They assured me they could. I ordered and paid over the phone but they showed me the exact design in a different colour so no biggie. I ordered on 19FEB2021 for pick up 20FEB2021 @ 2 PM. My husband picked them up as I had a prior engagement. My husband called just before he was to do the porch drop @ my sister's (go Covid) I asked him to send me a photo. He got off the phone a sent me a photo. A photo of plain blue cupcakes. Cool. So a surprise for my sister that went through one of the scariest things in life on the 19th got plain boring cupcakes. I also order a gluten free cupcake to try as I had never ordered from Flirt before. It was gritty. I have had better. I also ordered my husband a cupcake and he said he had better too.

I couldn't get a better photo before most of them were snapped up and enjoyed. #unicornthemedparty

These cupcakes are the reason that cupcakes were invented. I have ordered specialty cupcakes for events over the years from Flirt and they are always BEAUTIFUL and delicious-real show-stopping crowd pleasers. They are dense and satisfying, with many different flavours of icing for your cravings. I don't think they use a kitchen to bake these-I think they drifted softly down from heaven. This would makes sense, since the owners appear to be angels sent from god-to bake the world a better place. The ambience of the new location makes you feel like you've made it in life just by basking in the glow of their custom neon sign. #photopp If you haven't tried Flirt cupcakes yet, you're doing life wrong.

Great cupcakes. Not too sicky-sweet like "Crave". Seasonal favorites. Great hours. Friendly staff. Groupons seem to be available all the time. Very reliable.

Although I haven't really been a huge cupcake kinda a guy, just the three or four cupcakes that I've had at Flirt has converted me. No more conversion practices need to be adopted - I'm a FAN! From now on, whenever I want to flirt with myself, I'll show up at Flirt Cupcakes! The yumminess of the cupcake lies (for me) in the quality of the cake itself and after trying Fuss a couple of times, I tend to feel that Flirt's got the best thing - right! The cake! As for the flavors, they have a variety of them, the names of which I can't even pretend to know. What I love is that they have a "Flavor of month" thing going, which is really kinda awesome. I have to still try (and I have a couple of days left) their cherry bomb cupcake, which is the flavor of this month! Three types of cakes: vanilla, chocolate and red velvet. I like red velvet a lot, but my fav is the chocolate cake. I also love the fact that they always have something cute topping their cupcake. Obviously on top of the icing. Like "The Flirt" has a small square of chocolate candy and another one of theirs actually has a tiny bear cookie on top .. very cute!! :-) The shop is small with maybe 3 - 4 tables. But it's still great to come here and get a cupcake to walk with!

    Mmm...bacon cupcake.

I became the hero of my New Year's Eve party when I showed up with mini cupcakes from Flirt! Baked fresh that morning, I picked up a combo pack with a dozen minis, with flavours like red velvet and double chocolate. (It's just too bad I didn't stop by earlier in the day, or I could have picked up their flavour of the month for December: Candy Cane!) Cupcakes were soft and moist, and the icing is just the best! I like all of the creative flavours Flirt bakes up and the staff here are very patient while you make up your mind. (What? It's just easy to get distracted by all the pretty colours!) New Year's resolutions aside, I will definitely be coming back here!

The cupcakes are very tasty and service was great. The big disappointment was packaging. The only option I was given to take out bunch of cupcakes was the plastic container. The container is made of single-use plastic of type 6 (Polystyrene) - a material that is not recyclable and mostly ends up in some Asian country that we ship our garbage too. Will come back to Flirt when they have more sustainable options for their packaging.

I have got to get my sweet tooth under control or I am going to have some serious problems. Flirt Cupcakes is the only place in Edmonton that sells only cupcakes (from what I can tell). They have a huge selection of cupcakes here of all different flavors. I love the fury and the coffee date. They do cater special events which is really cool. I think they would be a hit at weddings. You must try this place at least once in your life.

I have passed this place many times but never had a chance to try. It's a tiny little cupcake shop on the east end of whyte ave. A few small tables to sit inside. I got a dozen mini assorted. Price wise they're pricier, but they are made with great detail. The butter cream icing is not too sweet, which is what I look for in a good cup cake. Cake is moist and yummy. I'd return if looking to surprise someone with something sweet.

Was excited to go here over the weekend for some cupcakes and I was happy with how it turned out! It's a cute little shop with a good selection of cupcakes, nothing too crazy overwhelming but enough that you have a good bunch to choose from. Not all of the cupcakes looked exactly as they do on the website and there were some new ones, and missing flavors (no peanut butter sigh) but there was still so many to choose from regardless. I bought a half dozen - 2 cookie dough, 1 red velvet, 1 Georgia Brown, 1 coffee and 1 birthday cake. I tried a bit of the cookie dough and Georgia brown and wow - the cookie dough is something I would certainly come back for! The Georgia Brown has cream cheese and cinnamon so it's exactly what you expect it to taste like, and it's done very well. The dough on that cake is a little less sweet, so it goes very nicely with the cream cheese. But that cookie dough is on another level - if you thought you know what cookie dough icing tastes like you probably don't because wow they hit the nail right on the head. Not only that but the cake part of the cupcake was so tasty, with a nice layer of cookie dough at the bottom. This one was sweeter than the Georgia brown but I didn't find it to be too much. Overall, beautiful cupcakes both visually and taste wise! It will cost you a nice ol 20 dollar bill but I think it's worth it.

Also, it gives highlight to an delicious food scene, which otherwise can be overlooked because of the area of town that Chinatown is located in. I really believe in the area, and even if it is not Chinatown Dining Week, I still go there often because the food is amazing (at numerous places on 96th street), and the families who have food establishments are really friendly, and care about they do. The staff here are friendly and care about what they do, (as all of the other locations on the street), but english is not their first language, so be patient! The women here running the bakery were fantastic, but we needed to do some charades to get what we wanted. Our fruit cocktail cake was only 20 bucks (for downtown dining week, it is slightly higher regularly), which is cheaper than many Costco cakes. It was so delicious. Light and fluffy, full of fruit and delectable whipped cream. I am not a super sweet fan, but I had three pieces of cake the first night. So lovely. They also have a tonne of other baked goods that are worth checking out. You should. Check out Chinatown. Check out the food. And check out the people that are in this resilient community.

I don't think I have had something here that I didn't think was ok to good. My issue the last time was that they add the prices in their head and didn't issue a receipt. They usually use a calculator but I don't recall if they ever give a receipt from the til. This time they didn't use and charged almost $30 for baked goods, which I think was a few dollars off. My suggestion is if you go, add up the items beforehand or ask for a receipt to ensure the price charged is what it should be.

It's the first time I went there, as we usually go somewhere else like Hotel Macdonald, and I can tell you right off the bat that the one offered by The Art of Cake is much MUCH better! Their shabby chic decor is absolutely adorable and tasteful! The tables were decently spaced and lighting warm and bright. The staff were also super sweet when chatting and checking in on us during the course of our tea party. The menu was mouthwatering. Other tea parties, while sticking to bite sized portions, also stuck with scant fillings/toppings and little variety that always left me feeling like I should go for a burger run after. The Art of Cake's was not only as generous as they can be with the fillings in the bite sized portions, they were also varied and left my palette (and stomach) leaving well satisfied. Their plating and food presentation was fantastic and pleasing to the eye. It left me feeling reluctant to bite into some of the pieces because they were too cute and perfect! Would definitely recommend, and would go again!

I didn't quite know what to expect walking in, if it was more of a takeout bakery style or a sit down and enjoy sandwich and chicken eatery? Well, we got to try it out and 100% more of a take out shop than anything else. Similar setup to Handy with breads and desserts displayed on the center glass counter display with a few shelves on the side acting as a mini market, the backboard had a few food food items but nothing special. The space is roomier with plenty of seating, but with a feeling of more of a concrete room as opposed to being more welcoming as Handy. We left with a few Portuguese tarts and they were cold? She didn't offer to warm them up or anything either, so my cold tarts were pretty disappointing. Though the filling did taste really good. Maybe we need to visit again on a busier peak time for some better service? Not in a rush to try this place again though.

Popular Bakery is many things - including living up to its name. It is a bakery, grocery store,…read moresandwich shop, cafe, and hang out, all in one. Located on Alberta Avenue, Popular Bakery fits well into the multicultural atmosphere of the area as a Portuguese bakery and restaurant. One of the few places where one can sit with a cup of coffee and enjoy conversation with friends (except when community coffeehouse The Carrot is open), Portuguese Bakery sells fresh baked goods, sandwiches made to order, and a few hot entree items such as Portuguese flame-grilled chicken and pork. A cooler contains a variety of beverages, both domestic and imported from Portugal, and there are a few short aisles of groceries, again, mostly Portuguese. Despite being large and spacious, tables are precious few. I can imagine this place getting very full at lunch time, and doing a mostly take-out business. I was there around four in the afternoon, and the tables were around half full, mostly with older Portuguese men and women sitting around enjoying coffee and pastries, speaking in their mother tongue. My server was Portuguese, and I really felt like I had stepped into another culture - which is exactly what I want when I am visiting an ethnic establishment. I ordered a quarter chicken meal with french fries (my other choice was rice) and a salad (which comes with the meal). I was asked if I wanted my food served regular or spicy and I opted for regular. My food was brought out to me a few minutes later, and consisted of a large plate almost overflowing with chicken, fries, and salad. The salad was a mix of vegetables in a light, almost Italian style vinagrette with a bit of a salty kick to it. The fries were average, but crispy. I thought perhaps they might make their own here, but I was wrong. The chicken, however, was the star of the show. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, the meat was infused with a tangy season mix in oil, accented with salt and garlic. The grilled flavour of the chicken came through as well. Instead of giving me an entire dark or white quarter, I had a wing, a chunk of thigh, and two chunks of white meat. I enjoyed the variety, and it also made the meal easier to eat. For dessert, I decided to try one of the many tempting treats in the bakery's showcase. An egg tart is a standard Portuguese favourite of mine and they were here, but looked rather burned. Some of the other items, such as danishes, eclairs, and other pastries looked delicious, but a bit too much to follow the meal I had. I opted for what looked like a smaller dessert - a slice of caramel pudding. As soon as my server handed me the plate, I thought my arm would drop. It was heavy for such a small slice! I also had a cup of coffee to accompany my dessert and keep me occupied as I finished reading a book. The pudding reminded me of the filling of an egg tart, very firm in texture. The caramel part was probably the light syrup at the bottom of the slice, which tasted more like a lightly burned sugar than caramel. It was good, though, and it took me a while to fork my way through it. The big disappointment of the afternoon was the coffee. It was very, very average. However, it was also inexpensive. The price for a meal is in the $7-$10 range. The sandwiches are on fresh bread or rolls and include a variety of meats. There is also soup. I plan to come here again to have more chicken and try the rice. Portuguese Bakery closes daily at 6:00 p.m. and is closed on Sundays.
