I visited here for the first time last Saturday. We arrived right when they opened so there was no wait. The only nearby parking option seemed to be valet but it was complimentary. The dress was mixed. I was dressed very casually because I hadn't planned to dine here but I still fit in just fine. The customer service was great. Every staff person who we came in contact with was very pleasant and friendly. I liked the overall atmosphere and vibe. I ordered the Casarecce con Salsiccia. Overall I thought it was good. It was flavorful and filling. I'd rate that dish a 4/5. The other person who dined with me ordered the Pollo alla Cacciatore. She raved about her dish. I didn't try her dish but based on her comments I am thinking that she'd rate it a 5/5. I was pleasantly surprised with a free dessert for my birthday. It was interesting and also quite tasty if you don't mind different types of textures which I don't. It somewhat reminded me of flan but had a different flavor. Extremely disappointed. After checking reviews (both online and by asking friends for their experiences) we were excited to make a reservation for us and our 10 closest friends for our birthdays! My birthday is nine days after my husband's and this was the first time we planned a joint celebration so we wanted it to be great. So the stars aligned for a Sunday evening dinner. We all got there on time and enjoyed the complimentary valet on a chilly evening. The hostess took us to our table which was a nice high top with some great ambiance. The waiter came up and bumbled through an introduction that surprisingly didn't include his name. Our group quickly realized this man must not have been a waiter (at this restaurant) for long - or at least wasn't used to managing a mid-sized group by himself. Eventually we had to ask him to take our drink orders which took forever to receive. At one point I watched my drink sit on the bar for 30 minutes of our 3 1/2 hr dinner before someone from our party finally got up to retrieve it on their own. We eventually learned it was quicker to order our drinks from the bar oursleves - such a shame. The majority of the food that came was pretty amazing. Until we got to the entrees.... Four of the couples ordered the Rib Eye Steaks - it looked phenomenal on the menu. However each of us ended up with the toughest and most gristly medium rare steak ever possible. The waiter blamed the toughness on being a "thick steak" but I had to point out the full run of gristle through the middle didn't help. The appetizers and the entrees came out so far apart from the other couples it was almost like we were at different tables. Our food got cold while we waited for our friend's SALAD to get there! Mind you, the entrees came two and a half hours after we placed our original orders! The worst part of this whole experience was that our guests (who have had positive experiences in the past and recommended Cosima) were apologizing TO US! You would have thought our table would've had a visit from the manager or chef...but no. They left each apology up to the waiter who just kept saying "anything that could go wrong did go wrong" or "it's just not our night" which was...extremely disappointing. I will say that I was proud of my friends for keeping a level head. Each one of the couples would have loudly voiced their dissatisfaction with the situation but kept it cool. This was truly tested when our friends' food was taken from in front of them twice. They are vegans and each time their food was brought, they had confirm they dish was (in fact) vegan. The waiter (both times) said hesitantly, oh yes, and then a minute later came up and took the food to replace it with a vegan dish. In the end, the waiter offered them free coffee to make up for the continued confusion. They actually said that they would pass on the coffee but the sorbet looked nice. I went with my friend last weekend for a late dinner and this was a first time for both of us. They have a parking garage right outside the restaurant which was extremely convenient. They take your temperature at the door and ask for you to provide some contact information for contact tracing purposes. They have large shields at the bar which allows customers to be separated from the bartenders but still easily communicate and be served while seated and able to enjoy a drink at the bar. We sat upstairs and all the tables are socially distanced. Laura was our server and she was fantastic!! We could not decide what we wanted because everything looked so good! We got the roasted cauliflower appetizer with this delicious and fresh dipping sauce along with roasted brussel sprouts which were very good. My friend said the bread was good as well. My friend got the margarita pizza and said it was delicious and had a red wine which she said was excellent. I had the bronzino that came perfectly cooked and had a nice green sauce on it and small arugula salad with a delicious vinaigrette on it. The fish was literally the best I've had. I literally had to pause and just take it in. Laura suggested the entree and wine and was absolutely spot on with that and our desserts! We got the chocolate cake, donuts and pistachio gelato. Baltimore Restaurant Week gave me the perfect opportunity to try out Cosima. Unlike other restaurants that use Restaurant Week to serve weak, careless meals to diners, Cosima brought their A-Game. The meatball appetizers was warm and filling, topped with creamy ricotta cheese. I chose the Pesce Alla Trapanese as an entree, which had delicious fresh mussels, shrimp and calamari, but even I, a diehard seafood lover, was jealous of the friend who ordered the Ragu Di Cinghiale (wild boar? yes please). Dessert was a bit of a disappointment for me - the Italian Rum Cake was nothing special. I should've ordered the Chocolate Almond Torte. Another friend went off the Restaurant Week menu and ordered the Ricotta Cheesecake. Normally, that would've been my first choice, but I was glad I didn't order it, as the texture and taste was not my favorite. Our server was super nice and made good recommendations, but she did make a significant error on our check, resulting in an additional $80 being added to our bill. We didn't catch it at the restaurant, but luckily a friend kept the receipt. Hopefully the error will be easy to resolve. Also, I would advise other diners to research the parking and location before visiting - even though I ride by Cosima pretty regularly, I still missed the entrance. This place is great. I come here all the time and I've had almost everything off of their menu at this point, which would be overwhelming to list in this review. There are some items that will sell out quickly (I've still never tried the gnocchi). I love enjoying a pizza at the bar - the restaurant's beverage director and bartenders are so warm, friendly, and knowledgeable, and it's a lot of fun to watch cocktails being prepared. I've still never eaten outside proper, but it's really lovely by the Falls with stringed lights overhead. It's beautifully-designed inside and makes for a special dinner location. The restaurant is in a former cotton mill, and the preserved architecture is lovely (think exposed brick/stone and rustic, industrial details). I actually went here a few times for my birthday last year, and I like bringing visitors and family here, too. I do acknowledge that this place is pretty pricey, but happy hour specials make the experience more affordable and approachable. Two friends recommended I check out Cosima, and with restaurant week coming up, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to give it a try. I went for dinner during restaurant week, summer 2018. The food was fantastic, starting with the watermelon soup dish, which had a nice kick to it, with the chili oil. The saffron risotto was fantastic and flavorful. It had both big shrimp and little shrimp, which I thought was a nice touch. The roasted pepper crema was delicious. For dessert, I had the lavender panna cotta, which was great. It wasn't very lavendery but I'm not complaining. It was more so vanilla. Plus, there were strawberries that were great. Cocktails were brought up to the table (not by our waiter, but maybe the owner) and my husband's was presented to him and given a name, mine was not - weird. Worst tablewaiting faux pas: the bill was left on the table before it was asked for. I was expecting maybe a complimentary Prosecco to toast our special occasion - especially as they knew why we were there - but no. A bit hard to find this restaurant as it is tucked away behind an apartment complex, but once you do find it, you definitely will forget you're in Baltimore! They have a cute outdoor space that overlooks a stream and their indoor area has tons of seats, with an industrial vibe. They have hh by the bar, but sadly missed it. The drinks at the table are a bit overpriced. Glasses of wine range from $9-$15. I'm not an expert in Italian wine, but thankfully our server was super helpful in matching my wine preference. Actual meals are bit overpriced too, but went expecting this. Had the meatballs to start. Oh em gee. You get your money's worth!!! There's about 10 mini meatballs served in a skillet, topped with cheese... um yum!!! For my meal, I had the pizza topped with scallops and bacon- my two favorite things!!! The pizza is cooked in the brick oven so it's cooked to perfection. Scallops shriveled up a bit and the maple brown sugar on top of the bacon was a bit too sweet for my liking, but all in all was good. Tried a piece of their pizza of the day, which had salami and cherry peppers- yum!!! For dessert, had the flourless chocolate cake. Yum! Not too sweet or rich. This used to be my favorite restaurant in Baltimore until a couple weeks ago. My husband and I came here for a Friday date night, we had reservations around 8pm and it was busy as usual so we had to wait a few minutes for our table. This was to be expected so we started with a couple drinks at the bar as we waited for our table. Once seated our server was pleasant, she took our order -- I ordered the lobster with squid ink pasta, which I've had before and loved! My husband got the pork shoulder with polenta. We got our food and the first bite of my lobster was chewy and definitely over cooked, and my husbands polenta was dry and gummy. The server checked in and asked how everything was and I let her know my lobster was over cooked. She said she'd check with the chef to see what they could do and almost immediately came back and said they're out of lobsters. The manager came over and basically said the same thing and offered to switch out the meal for a shrimp dish, which I didn't want. So I just ate the squid ink pasta which was good. I then saw at least 4-5 lobsters come out while we were there after they "didn't have any lobster left". I was completely turned off by the way they handled this and how terrible the quality gotten. I wanted to take my boyfriend and son to Easter brunch somewhere and sit outside. I discovered Cosima via Google and decided to give it a shot. I gave this restaurant a 3-star rating and here's why: Let me start with the pluses. First of all, the atmosphere was amazing! Their outdoor deck was VERY cool. Contemporary, upscale vibe... fantastic views and cozy industrial/urban-chic. Our server Liz was also top-notch. Friendly and wonderful, not overbearing but attentive and helpful when needed. Wine was delish. Here's why I gave it only 3 stars.... I thought their menu was sorely lacking. I barley found one item that piqued my interest. I mean, even their selection of salads was bad. And it certainly was not a brunch menu. My son and boyfriend felt the same. I mean talk about a blah, boring selection! I searched and searched and at one point we all looked at each other and kind of laughed, "Well, at least the atmosphere is cool." We ordered the meatballs as an appetizer and they were tasty. Then my pizza came (because that was the only thing I could find that remotely appealed to me)... it was bland, boring, nothing special. Tim ordered some sort of quiche-like pie... he said it was "okay." Alek ordered the flourless chocolate cake for dessert which was very good. But overall, our meals were disappointing. I would possibly return to Cosima for drinks if they had an outdoor bar, but unless they jazz up their menu and food, I won't be dining there again. This may be my first time reviewing an establishment, that I've never stepped foot in. I'd like to start by saying thank you so so much to Alan, for insuring that my baby sister had a 5 star 20th birthday! I called maybe two weeks prior and alan listened to what I was looking for and made it happen. I went a bit over my original budget, but I'm all about "QUALITY OVER QUANTITY" and the experience was well worth the price. A prixe fixed menu was put together, including vegan options for my young vegan brother. From what I heard everything was to die for. The staples were the chickpea fritters,meatloaf and cannoli. But they thoroughly enjoyed everything. I will say to anyone hosting a prepaid dinner party, stick to your original party number, but this has nothing to do with the restaurant. My sister is a culinary student and she really was wowed by the service, options and the chef and manager constantly talking to her and guests. To add the cherry Joe Flacco was present. Just got back and ready to eat my leftovers for second dinner! I just started out with the Polpetti Di Melanzane which were eggplant fritters. They were pretty good the parmesan was fresh, and the eggplant balls were nice and cheese and HOT. Next was the linguine with shrimp. I didn't finish it but that was only because I wanted to savor it. I have no complaints. The sauce was rich and the pasta was cooked perfectly. My date got the pork chop and MAN was that good. I ended up eating all of his vegetables bc they were just that good. Grilled to perfection with peaches to pear with it. Lastly was the olive almond cake with drunken peaches. It was a bit of a tough texture but still extremely enjoyable. We arrived at 8PM for an 8PM reservation. As most people know, the location of this restaurant is in the middle of nowhere, so when you drive there, and valet your car, you're kinda stuck there. I guess that's how they feel, because the hostess says to us, "it's going to be a 20-25 minute wait, you can go to the bar until your table is ready" Said in a very matter of fact way, without even a hint of apology or concern for the inconvenience, like "deal with it" Looking around, there was a number of empty tables and the place seemed to have a bad vibe I just couldn't put my finger on. I have a newfound addiction to Italian restaurants and this one is perfect. It's location is unpredictable which I really like. Great place to go for a date or drinks with friends. The atmosphere is very mature. I didn't get to sit outside but they have outdoor seating. The staff is very attentive. Our waiter checked on us multiple times. The Executive Chef and Manager even came by to see how everything was going which makes you feel very important as a customer! The wine menu is extensive, by the glass and by the bottle. The "excellent": crispy thin bread sticks, free valet parking (a must because of the location), brussel sprout app, crispy arancini, excellent service, creative cocktails, dramatic interior. The four people at our table who ordered pasta were happy. Ricotta cheesecake and nutella torte were favorites The "Needs improvement": pizza had great flavors, but a soggy crust. The $34 pork shank and polenta had no seasoning, not even salt/pepper, certainly no hint of rosemary or garlic jus as promised on the menu. The passion fruit tart was so sour none of us could have more than one bite. It was busy, but we were able to find seats at the bar. Our bartender's recommendation for a substitute for Bombay Safire for my wife's G&T was spot on. We ordered the meatballs and pear apps to start. Both were great. Our main dish was their basic pizza. My only complaint about the pizza (and it's very minor) is it may have been slightly undercooked in the middle. The crust more than made up for it. We ate it all. Highly recommend giving it a try. Another amazing dinner at Cosima. We've been fans of this place since our first visit shortly after they opened. It's become hard to get a reservation unless you come early or late so plan ahead and be flexible. The drinks were solid. I was particularly fond of the Venticello. The Ginepraio is good if you're looking for something stronger and less sweet. The grilled whole bronzino is a staple. We order it every time we come to Cosima. The skin has a nice crisp, the meat is well seasoned, and the sauce is great. Best bronzino we've ever had (and we've had a lot of bronzino). Comes with a side of kale salad. The pork chop was new to the menu this time, and it was amazing! Not too fatty, perfectly grilled. The brussel sprouts were super crispy. Apple demi glace was perfection - sweet but not overpowering. I only wish there was more of it. From previous trips, we've enjoyed the meatballs and pizzas. We haven't loved the pastas we've tried (tend to be bland), but they change them up regularly. The building itself is beautiful and service is always excellent. The restaurant feels like it's in the middle of nowhere (if nowhere had complimentary valet). read more

Best dining experience this year in Baltimore City. The dinner was phenomenal from start to finish. From the location, to host, to amazing sever with excellent recommendations who made the entire night memorable, to general manager and executive chef Donna (Donna from Donna's) the experience could not have gotten as my better. The location is gorgeous in an old historic mill and the food, drink and is service tops notch. Highly recommend any dish on the menu (we had ribeye and Chilean sea bass), buratta appetizer, pistachio and fruit tarte deserts. Wine and cocktails were also amazing. Really amazing staff and they accommodated my dog which I am always going to praise. The apps where really nice. Frito misto perfectly cooked with anchovies, squid and shrimp. The octopus was very nice cooked as well with bits of citrus that really made the dish pop in this hot weather. We got the lamb and cucumber soup for dinner. The lamb was not my style. I'm not sure if it was the cut or the style of which it was cooked. The cucumber soup was nice but it had a foamy texture. I am not used to in my cold soups. I think it need a fat incorporated in it. The ambiance and location is great and the staff was incredibly friendly - from the hostess, to our waiter, to the manager who passed by for a quick check in. Not to mention that the food was delicious! We got the seafood pizza frutti di mare, casarecce pasta, arancini, brussel sprouts (yum love the aioli!!), cauliflower, gnocchi, and the meatballs... cannot stress enough how good the meatballs were. Had a wonderful meal at Cosima for a date night! It's only been open 6 weeks and this place is truly a hidden gem. It's kind of hard to get to and the hidden entrance from Falls Road doesn't help. But once inside we were greeted by a very sweet older gentlemen who was the host. The decor has an industrial yet modern feel with warm tones used throughout the space. The menu options were inventive and artfully prepared. We had the meatballs (YUMMMM) and charcuterie and cheese board to start, followed by the swordfish and house-made pasta with broccoli rabe, peppers, sicilian olive oil. I was STUFFED! But somehow I made room for the chocolate and pistachio cannoli :-). Donna the owner stopped by all of the guest tables to make sure we were enjoying our meal, which was really nice to meet her and chat with her for about Cosima and her Cross Keys Donna's restaurant. The first thing that grabs hold of you when dining at Cosima is the steep winding entrance that leads you to the front door and the valet. As you drive over the precipice and under the lights strung between the buildings you feel as though you have discovered a wormhole to Southern Italy. Once inside, the exposed brick and industrial leftover remnants from the building's cotton mill past perpetuate the illusion. Cosima is a good place, it just wasn't good tonight. One member of our party was from out of town and was salivating over the local selections on the draft beer menu only to be told that the draft system was down for the night. Surely these things happen and I would never hold a restaurant accountable for this one infraction. I only mention it because it is one of several off-key notes played throughout the evening. As the server assembled our drinks we looked at the menu. Three of the five of us were quite taken by the braised boar shank only to be informed by the server upon her return that they were all out of the boar shank. This is a regular menu item, not a special mind you. Again, acceptable but disappointing, two sucker punches right out of the gate. Our apps were delicious, no complaint there. The arancini, pesto pizza & eggplant stack were all fantastic. Our entrees however were less impressive. I had the cuttlefish ink pasta with lobster. On paper it sounded excellent but I found the chunky indelicate sauce to completely drown out any flavor of lobster. A lighter sauce that let the lobster flavors shine through would have been so much better. Another in our party had the meatloaf served on a bed of spicy tomato sauce. We were quite amazed at how spicy this sauce was. I am a big fan of spice, but this sauce had a very oddly unpleasant biting heat to it. Again it had too much muscle for the protein, and to be honest, the meatloaf alone sans sauce was just OK. For dessert one party member wanted to have two scoops of gelato, one strawberry and one vanilla. We were told that "the rules" were that you could have two scoops of one flavor. Adding another flavor would require you to pay double--$14 as opposed to $7. Hello, what? Really? We just looked at each other in shocked disbelief. A few minutes later when we handed the server three credit cards and told her how to split the meal. It was very simple, we asked to do $75 for the single person in our party and $150 for the two couples. Again the "the rule book" came out. We can take up to four cards and they have to be split up evenly we were informed. What?? Are you kidding me? What kind of Stalinist regime is running this place. Could we get a rule book upon entering so we know next time? We harbored no resentment for the server and she was tipped well, but it is a shame how many time she had to apologize to us throughout the meal. Whether is was over items broken, 86'd, or dumb house policies that she clearly didn't agree with. A great meal should never be accompanied by a chorus of "I'm sorries." read more

Went here for my birthday dinner and had a lovely time. Our waitress was so sweet and helpful. The atmosphere is eclectic and beautiful. The outdoor seating is very romantic and cozy. We ordered the meatballs, kale salad, fish, and pasta. Sadly, the pizza oven was not working so I will be returning to try that again. The dessert was also good. As several other reviewers mentioned, this place can be a challenge to find. It's tucked away off what looks like the entrance of a loading dock. Once located, you're greeted by the complimentary valet and restaurant host. We arrived early for our reservation, but were seated immediately. The restaurant is nicely decorated with a rustic vibe, very cool. From the appetizers to the entrees to the complimentary dessert (only because it was a special occasion), the selections did not disappoint. Service was also top notch. I had been wanting to try this place out for a while and I must say it was worth the wait. The ambiance is fantastic and they did and excellent job fusing the existing historic textile mill with the modern Italian restaurant. There was a birthday party get together in the bar area so I was seated on the second level. I ended of ordering the lobster with the cuttlefish ink pasta after deliberating for a while. Everything tasted great and even though the cuttlefish ink pasta looked a little odd it had a great flavor. I had a few adult beverages. Pretty rustic looking inside. Huge bar area with seating n people can at the bar as well. Food n drinks were pretty good. Pasta, fish, chicken, beef selections. Pretty good list of white and red wine. They had dessert too. read more

My wife and I felt a fair amount of trepidation about eating out in the COVID era, but that uneasiness was finally overcome by the urge to get out together after months of quarantining with our 2 and 5-year old. Following our experience at Cosima last night, we can say with confidence that if you're looking for the perfect spot for your first night out after months of confinement, this is the place in Baltimore. Despite operating under difficult circumstances, Cosima manages to offer a first-rate dining experience in an extremely charming (and safe) setting. Our server, Mark, offered excellent recommendations throughout our meal, especially with respect to the wine we ended up going with, a spectacular 2015 Primitivo di Manduria, which was the perfect answer to our request for middle ground between a couple of Pinot Noir-ish and Cab-like options on the dinner menu. The food consistently impressed as well. Both of the starters we ordered were delectable: a perfectly charred octopus (pictured below) and an order of lightly fried artichokes. For our main dishes, my wife went the lobster risotto and I had the massive ribeye (also pictured below). Both were outstanding. There are a plethora of enticing dessert selections and we were expertly guided by Mark to the tiramisu, one of the better versions of that classic either of us has had. In short, the entire experience met our very high expectations after months away from dining out. (7/23/2016) Stopped in for a digestif and dessert after a huge porky meal at P&L. Place is tucked away (like seriously hidden, you gotta really know you want to come here, there's no wandering by) off winding old Falls Road, I'm glad someone else was driving. It was lively and bustling when we got there around 8 pm on a Saturday night. Snagged 2 seats at the end of the bar right in front of the wood-fired oven. That was a good and bad thing, we could see and smell all the delicious pizzas and head after head of roasted cauliflower. Cocktails were perfectly balanced, and delicious, but it comes with a hefty price tag. Had the Chocolate Hazelnut Torte and a serving of Espresso Gelato. Torte was the flourless kind, rich, thick, not crumbly and thankfully not too sweet, just the way I like it. Hint of something boozy soaked in there, likely Frangelico (duh, hazelnuts). Gelato had a lovely deep coffee flavor, but left a weird waxy film in the mouth and on the spoon, likely the mix was overchurned. Rest of the food looked phenomenal, but be prepared to pay for such quality. The old money set (yes, I mean old white people from the suburbs) was in the house, likely this is the desired clientele, they're just inside the City line but segregated away from and hidden from most undesirable elements, you know, "downtown." read more
