We found this spot after stumbling upon it on our first day in Paris and went there twice in 6 days. After oh, so many meals centering on bread on a 2 week trip to London and Paris, we found this sandwich shop with a selection of meal sized salads. And their own specialty bread :-) Their "Everything but the kitchen sink" Salade was what we focused on. If you get it with the "menu" option you get a drink and dessert all for 13.5 Euros. Hard to beat especially in the St-Germain-des-Pres area. The eating area is on the second floor and if you can get a window seat, its very interesting to people watch. People talk up the Apple Crumble (wish we had some vanilla ice cream at the time) but my wife and I found the Tiramisu to be the better option. And I have to admit, the Pain Cosi was completely addictive. Like a very light focaccia baked in their open oven and served warm. The staff all spoke serviceable if not excellent English. An added bonus if you are on an extended trip, it is 2-3 doors down from a small but serviceable coin laundry (Julice Laverie)-have dinner while your clothes are washing. read more

On my last two trips to Paris I enjoyed the casual atmosphere here enormously. This is a casual sandwich place that has excellent free Wi-Fi. I think there comes a time, when as much as you love Paris, you want to check out what is happening back home with free Wi-Fi, and the Wi-Fi signal here is great. They make some interesting sandwiches, and of course, as this is Paris, the bread they use is excellent. They play soothing opera arias and serve reasonably priced beer and wine, so this is a perfect place to relax and unwind from sight seeing-which can be tiring! Every time I have been there plenty of seating has been available, and there is even a busy restaurant kitchen across the street which is interesting to watch! Oh I dream about these sandwiches. They are massive. They have ridiculous names. They are super fresh, made right there in front of you when you order. They are original, with fillings like tandoori chicken, smoked salmon, blue cheese They are made with thin focaccia-esque bread that is perfection - so much so that I have been known to buy it plain. It is fluffy and chewy at the same time, tender with olive oil, and topped off with a golden brown delicately crunchy crust. They bake it fresh in the shop, and each long loaf is warmed up in the little wood burning oven behind the counter before being sliced up for sandwich making. And if you time it right (i.e. if you are a huge addict like me who comes here far too often) you can arrive just in time for the piping hot bread. You can choose from the combinations on the menu or fashion your own unique creation from the dozens of ingredients available. FUN! Yes but I obviously tend to get carried away and it ends up getting expensive. They offer salads too but honestly I cannot keep myself away from the ample quantity of delicious flatbread the sandwiches provide. My old standard is the Stonker: fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and heaps of arugula with a generous drizzle of olive oil and freshly grated parmesan that gives it a delightful twang. Not high cuisine but great quality for casual cuisine. This neighborhood (near rue de Buci) is one of my favorite spots in Paris. I give 5 stars to any restaurant in Paris that doesn't send me running back to the ATM for more euros. Kidding aside, this place was a steal (5-6€ per sammy) and the portions were fantastic. Tons of pre-designed options and you can kind of make your own. I got the flipper (tuna) and added some onions and other veggies. Love this spot. I studied abroad in Paris and grew up going to Cosi in NYC all the time, so it was fun to find this spot and some familiar food! The bread is fabulous and fresh (and sometimes just out of the oven), and they have options for everyone -- I'd especially recommend the curry turkey and apples. I'd often get a cup of soup, too. Lots of seating upstairs. They do a good business at lunch, and occasionally I'd have to wait a few minutes for a table to open up, but never too long. Definitely recommend! read more

I wandered into Cosi by chance. I wasn't particularly hungry but the ingredients used to make their Italian sandwiches (Focaccia), the beautiful smile and useful explanations of the Canadian waitress convinced me. I chose a L'ONG sandwich with tuna, cheddar and mayonnaise. The size of the fresh bread is quite big and the ingredients are top notch. It's almost a gourmet sandwich. 6,5 euro is not cheap but you pay for the quality. Apart from the mayonnaise in my sandwich, most of the ingredients here are quite healthy. They also have soups and salads. You can drink sodas, beer or wine by the glass (a surprising discerning choice - from 3 to 5 euro). If you're on a budget, you can find free water and glasses on the upper floor. It's a great spot for a quick lunch but you also can take away and go to the bridge 'Pont des arts' for a picnic. read more

Though a bit expensive for what it is, after all a sandwich should only cost so much, the ingredients are fresh, the counter accueil is fantastic and somehow the variety is always satisfactory. We went here for an early dinner after a long day of museum hopping. It was surprisingly easy to find from the St. Germain de Pres Metro stop. We also saw Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa, strolling with her husband on the street before Cosi. I ordered the Cheesy English sandwich, which was a delicious roast beef sandwich with cheddar. It was served on extremely hot, fresh bread. The other two in my party ordered a mozzarella, tomato,and basil sandwich. They let me have a bite of their sandwich which was also amazing. The wine selection was small, but the bottle we ordered was excellent and at a great price. The dining room above the entrance is really relaxed and cozy. I loved looking out onto the street, while listening to opera. We had planned on going back to enjoy another sandwich, but it never worked out. This review is from August of 2007 so I won't be as good remembering the exact types of sandwiches as the other reviewers. What I can tell you is that we were only in Paris for four days and the food was so good that we made a point of coming here for lunch two days in a row, the second day walking all the way from the Musee D'Orsay, which was a little farther than crossing the bridge from the Louve the day before. It all starts with the fresh bread, which is baked in a large semi open hearth downstairs near the entrance. What follows is the most creative, healthy, and flavorful combination of ingredients. One day we had an assortment of roasted vegetables with goat cheese; on another day I believe I had a sandwich with lamb and eggplant. Once again it was a long time ago, so forgive me. It's an amazing neighborhood and after you finish lunch and wander down the Rue de Seine to it's terminus you discover the heart of the left bank of Paris. Wonderful. read more
