People love the sandwiches so much that his stall inside Marche' Des Efants Rouges can see lines lasting upwards of an hour or more. And people stay in the line. We lucked out and only had to wait about twenty minutes. I tell you, I'd wait all day if need be. I often dream of the sandwiches we had and can't wait to have them again. Absolutely scrumptious! There was a line out the door, so bring a friend or a book because it was worth it. I had the corn beef, which was excellent, with caramalized onions and lettuce and tomato and the stronger of the two cheeses (which they let me taste test). Don't forget to specify if you want a crepe or a sandwich! I got the sandwich. The staff spoke great English but did speak to me in French (someone learning, which is always a confidence boost). There was some inside seating, but it was a super hot day and it was warm inside, so we opted to take it to go and eat at the local park. The restaurant itself is a hole-in-the-wall type of restaurant but it has character. You can dine in but most people I saw got their order to go. The owner gives you a taste of two cheeses to choose which one you want for your sandwich. That's very generous and helps you choose the one you like best. From what I saw, he personally made the drinks or pours it then brings it to you. The kitchen in the back makes the sandwich. It does take time but it's worth it! The sandwich is amazing and worth the hype. I'm not sure about the long wait but it's a really good sandwich. I didn't see this but they have a list of all of the meats and toppings on the large menu inside so you can specify what you want. My mom and I messed up the order at first because we failed to specify we wanted two different sandwiches, one meat and one chicken. So we had to go back to our sandwich maker and re-order before we paid. Now for the sandwich itself. It's fresh, tons of veggies, and the meat quality is excellent. I had half of a thin cut beef sandwich and a bit of a chicken sandwich. It has avocado, lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, and your choice of cheese on it, along with some other seasonings and herbs. the bread is delicious and fresh! It is messy, so sitting is recommended. Comparing this sandwich to the 2012, I gotta say, 2012 wins. So disappointed by my experience here and the way we were treated. I had looked forward to trying this sandwich for months. And not in a business-like way either, he is MEAN and rude, as if we were robbing them or something. The guy by the door starts arguing with him about it (I couldn't understand as I do not speak French) and they're sort of yelling back and forth over us and EVERYONE in the entire shop is watching. It was humiliating, I literally was tearing up because we were treated as if we were stupid and insolent rather than asked politely to leave considering we didn't even do anything wrong. We left the shop and almost didn't even grab our sandwich because the whole experience was so upsetting and insulting. Our sandwich came out right as we were going to leave the area entirely and the nice guy who was manning the door gave it to us and apologized profusely. Chez Alain Miam Miam was one of the restaurants we saw on a YouTube video about unique places to get food in Paris. What stood out for us were the galette wraps shaped like bouquets. Interestingly the video we saw showed a man cooking the galettes in what looked like an open market/food court. We found the food court but not the stand, but we did find that the restaurant now has a storefront across the street from the food court. My fiancé ordered the fraicheur, which was the bouquet-shaped galette that we saw on the video. I didn't try it since I don't eat pork, but he said it was fantastic and everything he had hoped for. Pure madness for a tasty meal. Chez Alain isn't so much a restaurant as it is 20 feet of folks doing their best to feed a ravenous crowd. I visited yesterday in the afternoon thinking this was just what my wife, baby, and I needed. The line was let's say a bit of a mess. Not a great system but from the looks of it necessary due to the constraints of being next to less popular places. Ordering a sandwich was easy. You choose your veggies, your cheese, your meat, and whether you want it toasted or cold. Two sandwiches and a bottle of water set us back a little over 20 euros. The total wait was somewhere around 45-60 minutes. I probably wouldn't have waited had I known quite how long it was but with limited French I didn't ask. The staff was nice and they did speak English. Even so I tried to speak French and they did their best to understand me. The sandwiches are hearty and while we got it toasted, we think we would have liked it better not toasted.
