Boo Boo and I came here after dinner. It's across the street from Topaz Thai. Boo boo is a proponate of dessert and all things sweet. We did a quick search on yelp and saw that they tres leche. This place is a Spanish bakery but with a café feel. They can make eleborate cofee drinks. We purchased a single portion of flan, tres leche cake and guanabana smootie/shake to-go. The desserts were average. I think they were not as fresh. It wasn't very sweet which is good sometimes. Also, I think they needed to be refrigerated to help with the freshness. My smoothie was great. Tasted like the other shakes I get from Vietnamese places. I would come back to try a sandwich or empandas. Not sure if they have wifi. I absolutely love Sweets & Cortaditos in Belleville. They're conveniently located near me, in between work and home so I can stop in anytime and I won't be going out of my way for a home style dish or dessert. I always come here to pick up a cake for any occasion but they also offer other amazing desserts, such as, a delicious moist tres Leches cake (either full cake or an individual slice), bread pudding with raisins, croissants, bread (pan), all kinds of empanadas, sandwiches like your typical Cubano sandwich or a bistec con sevoya (steak with onions), and let's not forget that cafe. Get your strong coffee from here in any style and you'll be pleased. They even have iced coffee even though they do not advertise it. They have this great chicken and mango salad that is so flavorful, they have typical Cuban soups for a rainy day or even if you're looking to have something that reminds you of your abuelas cooking, and I believe on Thursdays and Fridays they have Lunch and dinner specials of rice and beans. I'll have to get back to you on that. Love that I can come to a place that I know is clean and the food is home style to bring me back to when I was a child with my grandmother cooking for me. I'm Cuban-Anerican from Miami-that's like, a Cuban borough. This is vital information because it means I am a Cuban bakery elitist. After living in NJ for 10 months and desperately seeking a good Cuban bakery which run rampant back home, I FINALLY discovered this place. I've seen bakeries advertised as Cuban here, only to find southern Americans behind the counters and the baked goods just being all kinds of wrong. Several disappointments. Upon walking into Cortaditos, the music is right, the smell is right and the woman behind the counter spoke Spanish to me in my beloved Cuban accent! They have pasteles de guayaba, guayaba con queso, y de coco. They're authentic. They have croquetas de jamon which aren't as great as back home but still pretty darn good. Finally, they actually sell Cuban bread-REAL Cuban bread, the baked loaf with the correct crisp exterior and soft, soul-soothing soft inside! They even had cubiertas which are my fav childhood pastry. I was so overjoyed, I practically wept at the counter! My only gripe-it's a little pricier than I'm used to. Let's talk about their flan. I am not a huge fan of flan-gasp, I know, I know. However, I do try it at certain places I know I like. I wasn't disappointed here. It's amazing. It's more solid than other flans, which I love. The consistency is firm and the sweetness isn't overwhelming, the caramelized syrup is perfect. They have the plain and coco-both are WOW. On my last visit, I met the man who makes the food. It was a wonderful, missed exchange that felt like hugging my roots. Love this place and will continue to frequent when I need a little taste of home. read more

Named for its two signature menu offerings, Sweets & Cortaditos delivers on both. The pastry case is full of freshly made cakes and pasteles (pastries). I love that Cuban food crosses the savory/sweet line for desserts and meals. Cuban or guava and cheese sandwiches for lunch? Chorizo or guava empanadas for dessert? Sign me up for any of them. The guava and cheese pastry was out of this world. Flaky layers of puff pastry/phyllo dough surrounding a thick smear of guava paste and cheese. This is the first time I've had a dessert like this and the cheese wasn't sweetened. What a winning idea! The sweet, salty, creamy, tart all balance each other perfectly. I tried to savor it slowly, but alas my eager taste buds got the better of me. As mentioned the cafe con leche is beautiful, but I must also point out the three types of cortaditos. A standard cortadito is a shot of espresso with a touch of milk (strong coffee lovers). The cortadito bon bon adds condensed milk (sweets lovers). The cortadito coquito includes coconut milk (coconut and exotic taste lovers). I'm fairly certain any one would be a good choice. **I'm holding out for star 5 until I try a savory sandwich (definitely a Cuban) and can be assured they deliver meals and pastries equally well. I was across the street at Topaz Thai when I noticed this new store front selling Sweets & Cortaditos. But what the heck is a cortadito is what I asked myself. Determined to find out, I walked in near their closing time and asked the owner. He was nice enough to describe it to me as a Cuban sweetened espresso, which is VERY potent. I'm a caffeine lightweight, so I ordered the cafe con leche instead. It was divine. If you like sweets like guava turnovers, brazo de mercedes (that's the filipino term, but it's basically a carmel roll cake), tres leches, or flan this is the shop to stop in and order with a cup of strong coffee or iced coffee. They even sell empanadas and small breakfast/lunch options, but I have not tried any of those yet. read more

I was super excited to see that a new Cuban bakery opened up, so much so that I didn't even check the Yelp reviews before ordering! It is cute inside, with a good amount of seating area, perfect place to read the paper or have a cheap date. They sell decorative cakes, pastries, sandwiches (hot) and a variety of coffees at a reasonable prices. Sadly I wasn't very impressed in comparison to Cuban bakeries I go to in Union City. Pastries: The guava and cheese pastry lacks A LOT of guava. The meat one was OK, there was nothing in particularly awesome about the meat. The tres leches cake was just ok too, I prefer my cake to be softer consistency, this was more of regular cake and the icing was too sweet, I like when it's more like whip cream than icing for tres leches. The only pastry I particularly liked was the cheese one. It had a nice filling of ricotta and really delicious. I do have to say that the pastries flaky dough was very fresh and crunchy, I just don't like so much dough. The service was just ok, I was standing there for like 5 mins with 2 ladies right there making a boxes for a cake. Yes, I get that you are busy, but a "hello, we will be right with you" would have sufficed. Came by here two days back to back.. thats how much I enjoyed this place!! The place is located on the main road in Belleville (Washington) and there is plenty of parking on the street or the lot across the street and on the side next to BOA. The inside is pretty cool and modern and very clean. The service is great - very little wait time and they have a full inventory of empanadas and cakes around 3pm on Saturday from the looks of it. Onto the food.. I ordered a chicken empanada and a ropa vieja empanada. The two were very moist and delicious and the shells of the empanada were very crunchy - just the way i liked it. The ropa vieja filling was delicious and the steak was shredded very thinly in there. I also got the cuban sandwich, it was very tasty and pretty big compared to most cuban sandwiches. I think it needed a little more cheese and mustard though for my liking. Afterwards I got a tres leches to go and it was out of this world sitting in extra milk and not too sweet. So far its one of my favorites out there. And of course.. the cafe con leche and a cortadito to end the meal. One of my favorite places to eat in the area. It's perfect for a quick lunch, coffee run, and they have a great assortment of -- you guessed it -- sweets and snacks! My go-to order is the cubano medianoche with a large cafe con leche with 3 sugars. They also accept contactless payments like Apple Pay & save paper by emailing receipts. The dining area is a decent size and pretty comfortable, however, not the most ideal in the winter time. Since the seating is so close to the door, you feel the cold air from outside pretty quickly after it's opened. I called to get a woman that barely spoke English and then refused to pass me on to someone that could help me instead she said it was her fault and she would Zelle me the money because there is no other way to refund me or I could come tomorrow and pick up what was missing??? I realized my review is outdated. This place has the best tres leche I have ever had. We usually pick up at least 3 when we go. I've had the latte, as well which is good. My husband recently discovered the cafe con leche this week and has already been there twice this week to pick up coffee. This place always has customers, and lots of regulars picking up their cafecito. The cuban sandwich is good. I've has their breakfast torta, which was great. The pan con bistec was good too. The Cuban sandwich takes some time to prepare, but it's done very well. Pork is not too dry and the bread is nicely toasted. My fav empanada is the CHORIZO. I have been here many, many times. I love the cafe con leche. The ropa vieja and the guava and cream cheese empanadas are delicious. My daughter loves the batido de trigo. Before the pandemic I was a big fan of the Cuban sandwich. The authentic Cuban bread really made the amazing taste but unfortunately they changed the bread since last year and I'm disappointed. I would repurchase other items, but not the chicken empanada. It was a bummer because I was looking forward to it. The fruit tart was also delicious, but it had issues. Okay no lie though this place has one of the best empanadas I've had in quite a while. I don't know if they sprinkled some magic Cuban pixie dust on those little miracles but the first time I had some I instantly wanted to eat like...well the whole pile! And I wasn't even that hungry going in. I try to eat something every couple of hours and since I happened to be nearby this place, and I remembered how much I liked it the first time I came by, I decided to have another visit. This time around I saw them bring out a fresh heaping pile of their empanadas so naturally I had to bite like a fish at a fish pond. I settled for their chicken empanada and guava and cheese empanada. I can't tell you how the pork or the beef tasted but the two flavors I got were outstanding. I wouldn't go so far as it being legendary, on account that I've already had a couple of legendary empanadas, but make no mistake they are up there ladies and gentlemen. Catch them when they just come out of the kitchen and you will know exactly what I mean. The flaky, golden crust delicately cradles the abundance of goodness inside. The pastry is buttery and the chicken filling is moist (ugh I hate that word!) and scrumptious. There is a hint of spice that adds to the flavor but doesn't overpower it one bit. As for the guava and cheese the combination of fluffy cream cheese with the undeniable sweetness of the guava jam makes for a pastry snack that few can deny is ever bad. Surprisingly the flavor of the guava did not drown out the flavor of the cream cheese maybe because they created a dual pocket inside the empanada to separate the two fillings. Only when you bite into it do the flavors mix and harmonize! Now don't get me started on their tres leches. Yes, I know I'm obsessed with anything that puts the words "tres" and "leches" together, but don't think I don't know what is good and what is mediocre. Their tres leches is darn-diddly-good. The first time I had it was during an afternoon stop, paired with their frozen café con leche, and I have to say it was an amazing siesta break. In fact this place would be awesome anytime of the day for a siesta break. I just have to come back during lunch service and see how their sandwiches are. I really liked this place. I'm an avid cappuccino sampler, and like to try one wherever I venture... the coffee here is fantastic. The cappuccino was surprisingly delicious ... so of course I had two. First time having a Cuban sandwich, so I have nothing to compare it too. However, it was tasty and half is extremely filling. Clean and awesome little Cuban bakery! On separate occasions I ordered a chicken empanada and a Pollo Loco chicken sandwich. The empanada I must admit wasn't what I expected. I found it to be simple and underwhelming. The Pollo Loco sandwich, however, was hot, fresh and pure deliciousness. I'm not going to lie, I lack a bit patience so when my chicken sandwich order took a while to make (approximately 10 minutes), I began diving headfirst into a pool of opinions. I was REALLY HUNGRY! Thankfully Sweets knows how to make a great sandwich. The cheese was gooey yet its consistency held up well. The chicken tasted fresh and the bread was wonderfully pressed and toasted. For its portion, this sandwich didn't break the bank and left my belly full and taste buds satisfied. Sweets has quickly become my new spot for a weekend breakfast/lunch delight! read more
