We were on the Square around the Courthouse in Gainesville, Texas and I was taking pictures. We drove around the Courthouse and noticed this little corner cafe that was open on a Sunday morning and there were cats parked everywhere around it! That is always a sign for us that there is good food there or it wouldn't be so packed!!! I found a place to park and we went in, and sure enough it was crowded, but we found an open table and sat down. Everything looked good around us. The waitress was very busy but got us menu's and took out drink order very promptly! We had tea and our 6 year old got a coke. I ordered their chicken fried steak with 2 eggs and hash browns with biscuits and a side of cream gravy. My wife ordered the Texas Omelette that came with eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, onions, and jalapenos! Our 6 year old got pancakes and bacon. It was all really very good! This place is a good no nonsense cafe. Food is good. People are nice. We really enjoyed it. We searched Yelp for a place to stop and grab a bite in Gainesville, TX and the Cornerstone Cafe ended up being a pretty good stop. It's in a cute, old downtown area and they have a menu with variety that we like. You can order breakfast or lunch. My waffle was just ok so I'll order something else next time. My husband loved his chicken fried steak, eggs, hash browns and biscuits and gravy. We didn't try the burgers, but I would like to if we are back this way again. The menu says homemade onion rings as well so those sound great. We left full, but had to take some fried pies to go. They look delicious! They had apple, cherry, peach, apricot, coconut and chocolate. Great variety and we love this type of diner restaurant. We will definitely try it again. read more

The portions here are pretty good for the price in this day and age where a plate of breakfast usually costs you $20, well here it's a little under $10 which is a really fair price. Everything I ordered was cooked like I asked and the food was good and came out in pretty good time despite lunch rush on a Sunday. The ambiance is just a classic diner style that's easy on the eyes. In Gainsville as we traveled to/from Texas and OK. We stopped in around 1 pm, but SO glad they serve breakfast all day. The breakfast of poached eggs, a short stack of pancakes was perfect. Hubby had the pot roast lunch special: superb roast, 3 veggies, and a side of 2 biscuits & gravy.... Yummy comfort food. Save room, or take home some fried pies. What a refreshing breakfast experience in downtown Gainesville! While we did have to wait more than expected for our food, the servers were pleasant and the atmosphere is bright and cheery. The ham steak was delicious but huge, and my "scrambled" eggs were really chopped up fried eggs which the server should have noticed before serving to me. We were staying at Winstar in Thackerville and had to get out to eat some real food! Short drive down I35 took us to Cornerstone Cafe. If I was a local I would make this my regular place. They offer breakfast and lunch during all open hours which is great. My husband prefers breakfast and he had a basic egg plate but of note, everything was cooked perfectly as ordered. They offer a daily lunch plate special which was a great deal for $10. Monday was Chicken fried chicken breast or chicken fried steak. I chose the chicken and the definitely homemade mashed potatoes & gravy, corn, green beans and a roll. The service was friendly, checking with us often, and our server said the Wednesday special with meatloaf and Mac & cheese is delish. Made me want to stick around until Wednesday! The cafe is cute and utilizes 2 rooms. The main room has cute decor and a bakery counter with fried pies. They are hands down better than the more famous fried pie places in the area! The second room is not as decorated and the noise level was higher there. Note: there are some cute shops to look through along the downtown square but most are closed on Monday or Tuesday. The cafe seems to stay open every day and by the local stream of customers this is the place to be! read more

Great breakfast. Come hungry. I tip the scales at almost 250 lbs and I left an uneaten biscuit with tasty cream gravy and 1/4 of a cheeseburger omlette and some hashbrowns behind. We have been coming here at least once a week since moving back to TX in 2021. They have the best coffee! I asked the waitress once what kind they bought, it's a special blend they have to drive to Dallas to get. Service is fast and friendly, always greeted with a smile! Food is awesome, they are known for their homemade biscuits and gravy and it will not disappoint! The fried pies are very good, and well worth the price. I'm glad Cornerstone has taken over this location and I hope they get a consistent workflow going soon, but we were unhappy with our experience. We ordered two biscuit sandwiches and one croissant sandwich and it took around 25 minutes to receive our food, and one of the sandwiches was wrong. We ordered a cinnamon roll that came right out, but it was obviously at least a day old and very dried out. I believe we were overcharged, but the line to pay was so long and slow that I didn't bring it up to the lady that checked us out. read more

Stopped by for lunch. Knew it as the "Fried Pie" in the past. First noticed it had lost its little home town feel. Service was good. Waitress was very friendly and attentive. Had a burger and home style fries and hubs had BLT and home style onion rings. Food was not bad but after reading reviews sounds like breakfast is what you want to get. They did have fried pies but didn't try. Again, not bad but wouldn't be my first choice. read more

Cornerstone serves good breakfasts but by the time it was served, it was all cold. The butter sat on the pancake. I complained and the server went and microwaved it but it was still cold. She didn't offer to reduce our bill or remake the food. Some restaurants will not microwave. This isn't the first time we were served cold food. read more
