First off let me say that the interior here and the decor are incredible! Saint Jo is a really cute little small town with the friendliest people you'll ever meet. The small town dilemma is definitely real when it comes to food, and just because the folks there enjoy, doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be great food. Simple menu here, burgers and fries, nothing fancy or pretentious. I have Celiac so I cannot eat my burger on a bun and requested some leafs of lettuce to use instead. When the burger came out it came with shredded lettuce instead. Apart from the lettuce wrap hiccup, the burger was alright, came off a tad under seasoned. The fries were undercooked and definitely needed more time to crisp up. This had to be one of the coolest places to sit in and have a drink, the food is just so so...

We were in the area, and some friends recommended the Windmill. It's currently BYOB, but they've applied for a liquor license. And bring cash since it is cash only! The atmosphere is like an old bar: there's a pool table and a small stage and dance floor. You order at the bar, and servers bring the food to your table. The burgers were really good! I had a cheeseburger on the jalapeño sourdough, and my husband had the Texican on toast. We really enjoyed our meal!

Saturday night at the Windmill Grill & saloon with friends and a live band. The smoked brisket on sourdough jalapeño bun was darned good.

    Bacon Cheeseburger!! It's awesome!!

This place is off the charts awesome! Today was our first visit, but it won't be the last. My wife got a bacon cheeseburger, and I got the special -- the Rocket Burger. They were both fantastic! Today was one of the coldest days of the year (39 degrees) so we couldn't enjoy the outdoor dining, but we are looking forward to that the next time. The place is decorated so uniquely and Texan that my wife took several photos to send to our friends. The service was outstanding -- both extremely competent, professional, and friendly -- and the decor made us feel like we were at one of those places that needs to be featured on one of those TV shows that visits unique and tasty eateries. I highly recommend the Windmill Grill!! You won't be disappointed.

    The new Texican...

This place used to serve the best burger I've ever had. They've remodeled some for the better some for worse. No more back patio to eat at and more importantly the burgers are now just mediocre. The Texican that's advertised to come with candied bacon and bbq sauce now has two tiny strips of bacon and barley enough bbq sauce to discolor the bun. Very disappointing to see a favorite change for the worse so much...

Bacon cheeseburger, chips & drink, ~$12

I just had the BEST hamburger I've had in a LONG time. Better than anything Whataburger or In-N-Out can do... Good quality local meat market (Hess Meat Market in Muenster, Texas) fresh ground chuck daily. Customize it how you want (size and toppings). Good old fashioned burger! Great ambiance. Lots of Texas memorabilia in the building. Outdoor patio seating available as well.

    Best burgers in town!
