This was a great little hole in the wall! The place to be if you live in town!! The hamburger was tasty but the fries were overcooked and crunchy. Live music was a terrific perk on the Saturday evening we visited. First off let me say that the interior here and the decor are incredible! Saint Jo is a really cute little small town with the friendliest people you'll ever meet. The small town dilemma is definitely real when it comes to food, and just because the folks there enjoy, doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be great food. Simple menu here, burgers and fries, nothing fancy or pretentious. I have Celiac so I cannot eat my burger on a bun and requested some leafs of lettuce to use instead. When the burger came out it came with shredded lettuce instead. Apart from the lettuce wrap hiccup, the burger was alright, came off a tad under seasoned. We were in the area, and some friends recommended the Windmill. It's currently BYOB, but they've applied for a liquor license. And bring cash since it is cash only! The atmosphere is like an old bar: there's a pool table and a small stage and dance floor. You order at the bar, and servers bring the food to your table. The burgers were really good! My wife and I come here every other Thursday (80 minute round trip) and have been here 15+ times...without a doubt, I can say this is easily one of my top 3 burger places in America. First of all, and most importantly, the burgers are fantastic. Flat top grilled burgers are seasoned to perfection. (There's no bigger disappointment than a bland flavorless burger; luckily you don't have to worry about that here) You must order the jalapeño sourdough bun. It is incredible. Slight kick from the jalapeño offsets the slight sweetness from the bun and is the perfect complement to the meat. (My wife doesn't like spicy foods but she loves the jalapeño bun, it's not too spicy for those that prefer mild foods) If you do like a spicier burger (but not so hot that you can't taste anything after the first bite), I get a double pepper jack cheese burger on the jalapeño bun with the cream cheese jalapeño dressing...it's amazing. Their fries are the only disappointing aspect of the meal..in my opinion... They are shoestring fries and while they are cooked perfectly, I think they would be better if they were hand cut fries or at least have a house made seasoning on the fries. The service is wonderful. You're always greeted when you walk in. All the ladies that work the floor are great at their jobs. Walter (the owner) is an awesome guy. The decor of the restaurant is cool. It's in an old 1800's saloon with the creaky floors. Mismatched chairs and tables just add to the ambiance. They have live music on Friday nights. Note - they are only open on Thurs, Fri & Sat. This place is off the charts awesome! Today was our first visit, but it won't be the last. My wife got a bacon cheeseburger, and I got the special -- the Rocket Burger. They were both fantastic! Today was one of the coldest days of the year (39 degrees) so we couldn't enjoy the outdoor dining, but we are looking forward to that the next time. The place is decorated so uniquely and Texan that my wife took several photos to send to our friends. The service was outstanding -- both extremely competent, professional, and friendly -- and the decor made us feel like we were at one of those places that needs to be featured on one of those TV shows that visits unique and tasty eateries. Best burger in north Texas! The windmill grill is a hidden gem amongst a sea of lackluster restaurants in the area. The small town country western aesthetic is very calming and the outside dining area is undefeated! When the windmill is spinning and the water feature is running it's hard for me to leave the tranquil Vibe behind. Around this time of year when German Fest is happening a town over In Muenster they often have live acoustic music which is a wonderful addition to the previously mentioned aura and a much needed change in scenery if your looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the fair for a quick bite just out of town! I only wish their hours were more convenient but timing our visit has become a part of the charm for me and my girlfriend. 5 stars! read more

Since I've never met a burger I didn't want to eat, I circled the block and stopped in. The inside has an old country feel with all kinds of country goodies decorating it.
