Worst service I've had in a long, long time. Emailed their customer service to give them a chance to address the issues in lieu of a public review and they ignored me so they clearly don't care. Waitress we had was inept and disappeared for long periods of time. We spent an hour and a half for two people to eat dinner which is ridiculous. Along with our sit down order, we placed a salad order along with three slices of pie for carry out. The salad comes out in a glass bowl along with a to go box. I said this was to be carry out so the waitress made some rude remarks under her breath and stormed off with the salad. We then watch her use her hands and throw it in a to go box and then proceeds to bring it back to our table with the salad looking like it was quickly thrown into a box and destroyed the presentation. Then, she disappears for 35 minutes. I eventually got out of my seat, couldn't find her and then she shows up a few minutes later. I told her we are not accepting (at this point) a warm salad that she thrown in a box with her hands. She then gets lippy with us and mocked us as we were explaining our issues. Told her to remove the salad from our bill and we'd like to go boxes for our leftovers and our pies that we ordered 35 minutes ago. Disappears for another 15 minutes only to bring back a to go container with food all over it. She got yet again another attitude when we asked if she had a clean container. Again asked for the pies so she finally goes and gets them. We finally leave and get home to eat the pies. One of them wasn't even close to what we ordered and the other looked like she tampered with it and pulverized it in the to go container to the point that it no longer resembled a pie. Needless to say the pie went in the trash. Won't be returning here and would recommend going elsewhere for comfort food. read more

My first time here was great. Prompt service and friendly staff. I ordered a french vanilla cappuccino; which the waitress said was instant. Great honesty, and I still got it anyway! The food was okay and the atmosphere was great. The service really sucked! We got the fried chicken and mashed potatoes, but the potatoes could have been hotter. The desserts was okay. The blackberry pie had very few berries in it. The strawberry pie was good and the bread pudding was excellent. Our waitress, Connyynna, actually told us to clean our table up as it had chicken bones in a pile. I think she needs more training because we found that to be very rude. Good hearty fare as usual. I have been here several times over the years and just never got around to a review. This time I hadn't eaten all day and needed to refuel in a big way. I ordered the chicken fried steak ,mashed potatoes ,and corn. It took a while. When I finally got it, the chicken fried steak had the stuffins burnt out of it, but I was too hungry to bark at it, and cleaned my plate. The iced tea was fresh and the waitress was a sweetheart. We were in the area for the Comet's game and stopped to grab a bite beforehand. It had a full parking lot so we were hopeful. The waitress acted like she didn't want to help us. The food was awful. I got a burger that was so dry and was definitely frozen meat. The mashed potatoes are instant and dry. The gravy was gelatinous and inedible. The kids chicken fingers were chewy and hard to bite off. The fries were barely cooked. My husband had the patty melt which he was also disappointed with. He was starving and said "pray and swallow." His potato soup never arrived and the waitress almost forgot to take it off the bill. Today was my first time at the restaurant and it was a typical busy Saturday morning. My boyfriend ordered the waffle breakfast, I ordered the pancake breakfast and asked for my pancakes light. So we waited for a good while, and after some time was informed that my food was coming out shortly, and what took so long is that my pancakes were made wrong 3x. After another couple of minutes the food comes out. My pancakes were a little undercooked, so I asked could I just have them regular. They took them back and redid our whole meal, no attitude, fake enthusiasm, or anything. The food was also good as well, I'm a big pancake person and these pancakes were great. The GM made them and came back to make sure they were ok. I appreciate the staff for going above and beyond to fix my order. Lastly, I really liked the fact that the GM was in the kitchen WORKING, I mean he was sweating, you could see. That's a great work culture to have. Thank you all. Ok I can see why it's crowded, the inside makes you feel like you stepped into a diner in the 1950s. The bar stools and booths were a shiny glittery red plastic. They have a motorcycle on display by the booth we were in that was very cool. The waitress was so nice and had a lot of patience. The food isn't my taste. It's greasy. It feels like a restaurant somewhere between Country Kitchen and Cracker Barrel. I had the chicken fried steak. It wasn't bad. The rolls were huge and tasty. Baked items looked pretty good in the case. Cinnamon rolls and sticky buns were huge. Food is average. Wife said hers was too salty. I think breakfast is the way to go here. The Corner Cafe is always busy but it is worth circling the parking lot and having to wait for a table. There is a good reason for all the attention: The food is best described as down home style with generous servings and the service is always friendly and nearly always efficient. Breakfast is served all day and consistently good. This makes my husband happy and I have enjoyed many breakfasts there. But my very favorite meal is the chicken liver dinner and if it's lunch or dinner time, that's what I order. There is a full pound of chicken livers, breaded in a tasty well seasoned crunchy batter and served with a side of peppery cream gravy. (I always plan to take about half of them home for later. And some of the time I actually do that) The dinner platters are served with two sides chosen from a wide variety of selections and a wonderful fresh baked yeasty dinner roll. There are over a dozen entrees on the menu, plus some "daily specials", as well as a great variety of sandwiches, burgers and salads. The baked goods and pies and cobblers all look yummy and seem to get raves. If I can ever get over my obsession with the chicken livers, I plan to try some of the other things on the menu....someday. read more

The first visit was awful (right after they opened) and I was very hesitant about going back but was willing to give it another chance since the one in Riverside has never done me wrong for breakfast. I have not tried Corner Cafe for anything but breakfast but walking into the restaurant yesterday just about killed me. This weight watcher was about done in by the smell of the cinnamon rolls, raisin bread and the site of home made pecan pie! My hubby had the gringo omlet & covered hashbrowns that he enjoyed with enthusiasm. I stuck to my goal and had a light breakast of scrambled eggs, hashbrowns and toast. So nothing spectacular but it was good and the coffee was good. Service at 7:30am was very pleasant and the food was to the table in less than 10 minutes. The Corner Cafe in this location looks like a barn with a silo attached. It's listed as being in Blue Springs, MO, but it's Independence to me! (There are two other Corner Cafe locations in the metro area, north of the river.) Anyway, they all serve delicious, family-friendly food at reasonable prices. The wait staff has been very attentive and helpful the times I've been there. Once in a while, when they're really rushed, you have to wait a while for them to get back to you, but it's never been really bad. So far, every server I've had has been unfailingly polite. I had the best chicken-fried steak there that I've had in more than 30 years.Tasty, and so tender I could cut it with a fork. No stringy meat, no fat, here! I had the hot chicken-fried steak sandwich. It came with real, smooth, mashed potatoes, and gravy (comes with white, but I asked for brown, and it was excellent), on white bread. The chicken-fry also comes as a dinner, and as a breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, it is served all day (except for biscuits and gravy), and is terrific! This is NOT a place for eating light! But, if you like meats, potatoes, eggs, pancakes, biscuits, etc., you should be happy here. I think they have a garden omelet for the vegetarian. They have incredible, fresh bakery items... humongous, yeasty dinner rolls (I always buy a couple extras to take home for later.), and fantastic homemade cinnamon rolls, and sticky buns, both about two inches high, and about as big as a salad plate! Their chocolate pie is mind-blowing! These things are always on the menu. They make a chocolate cake that I plan to try the next time I'm there on the day they offer it. (Some desserts show up on the menu only one day a week..) They have excellent home cookin',-type food: Meat loaf, roast beef, tenderloins, chicken, catfish, homemade chicken and noodles, liver and onions, pork chops, lots of sandwiches and burgers, soups, salads, and those drool-worthy desserts! PLUS, Wednesdays they have Mexican food specials, and Thursdays they offer Italian specials. I think every day has different specials. No steak dinners, other than flat iron steak, hamburger steak, and the chicken-fried steak. The chicken-fry is the only one I've tried, so far. It's good enough that I have a hard time making myself order anything else! Try to avoid the noon rush, especially on Sundays ... it's popular, and you'll end up in a waiting line. If there are only one or two in your party, you might be able to belly up to the counter. If you have to wait to be seated at a table or in a booth, and you have kids, there's a basket of children's books to help you keep them entertained. If you are only eating a meal (no drink, no dessert), I think you'll most likely pay $10 or less, but, if you add drink and dessert, it can go closer to $15 or so. read more

The signature cinnamon roll ala sticky bun was a hit with my kids. "This is awesome!" My 16-year-old niece declared. I ordered the bone-in ham, hash browns and sunny side up eggs. The waitress came back with a ham omelet and grits. She came back a second time with the ham and eggs. I asked for my hash browns because I can't eat sunny side up eggs without the hash browns. My husband was happily devouring his omelet and said I was being picky. Hash browns soon showed up and the meal was great. My kids enjoyed it and would go back again. To sum up my opinion, If you like good food, with crappy service, this is the place for you. I cannot tell you how many times my family and I have been to this restaurant and get the same quality of service every time! BAD! Makes no difference who serves us, it's terrible. It's the same at every Corner Cafe restaurant also. We have been going to this restaurant since the little train shack it used to be in riverside. The only reason we go back is that the food is good not wonderful just good. But when deciding on where to eat, only if we have exhausted all other restaurants, will we choose this place last. We would eat there more but seriously the service keeps us from choosing not to! I actually went to the restaurant to get a whole pie for dinner on 3/16/2013. I walked up to the "dessert" counter, with the hopes, this should not take long. Person at the counter on the phone did not even acknowledge my existence their at all. So much so that a person came up behind me, not knowing that he needed to pay for his meal with his server. She actually helped him out as i'm standing there knowing, I had been patiently waiting for her to get off of the phone. So RUDE! No apologies just rudeness! I ordered and continued rudeness! It's truly unbelievable. As I write this, it makes me realize even more why I don't like this place at all. The food is not that great! Stopped at this exit for a coffee break today and went into the Corner Cafe just because it looked neat and had lots of cars. What a great find! Any place that has an old Indian motorcycle propped up on the row of booths can't be all bad! Food was great; bakery items were tantalizing (yes, I did skip them), breakfast foods looked terrific; but we had sandwiches....meatloaf (the special for Saturday) and a Ruben...both were great.
