Not worth the money. The food was mediocre at best. We spent about $70 for six people, everyone got a burger, plus two orders of fries and an order of onion rings to share. The food is made to order, so it did come out hot and fresh. We also ordered two shakes, and if you enjoy really thick milkshakes you can eat with a spoon (not sip through a straw), you'll probably like them. The staff was friendly and efficient, but overall, I don't feel the quality matched the price. I'm not sure I'd visit again. read more

First off the cashier was so helpful and nice! We did not know what exactly to order and she made it super easy for us. I ordered jr double cheeseburger, fries and chocolate shake. While they were enjoyable it did blow my mind. Cheeseburger was definitely good. Meat was cooked well and bun was nice and warm. Toppings were evenly distributed as well. Why the deduction of stars is fries were nothing special. The shake was most likely pre made and then set in the freezer instead of mixed on order. Chicken tenderloin and onion rings are the best. I tried BBQ Ring Burger today. Strawberry shake and a kids meal for my daughter that comes with fruit snacks, cheeseburger and tater tots. The tots here were a little soggy. But the self-serve catsup was very good. I got a Double HiBoy. It seemed dry, like the meat had been on the grill too long. I went and got some mustard and added it between the patties. That seem to make it a little better. HiBoy is a family tradition. We usually go to the store on 24 Hwy and River. Today, I thought I'd surprise Mr. G. With a 1/4 HiBoy and Onion Rings. I have been craving Tenderloin sandwiches lately, so I got one of those for me. There is something about those HiBoy Onion Rings. They are the best Onion Rings and what we use to measure all Onion Rings. Did not disappoint. Of course, Mr. G. Loved the HiBoy, and I was very pleased with my tenderloin sandwich. It was just the right size. Crispy on the outside. The sauce was not too heavy, and the lettuce, tomato, and pickle did not overpower the tenderloin. I could taste the meat. The drive-thru worker was pleasant and professional, and it was worth the wait for fresh, delicious food. So because a new burger place opened in town, but I'm not willing to put up with long waits I decided to do a burger tour of local places. To keep it fair though I am just ordering a similar double burger at each stop on the tour. The choice here was really good. The onion rings were really good. I also got a fish sandwich and skipped eating the bun...it was nice and crispy and the toppings were fine, but it wasn't to my preference. To be fair, we come here on a regular basis. I previously tried the Italian steak which was well made, but not one of my preferences. I LOVE their pork tenderloins and that's my go to choice. I've been looking for my local burger place - you know, the one I can point to and say "I know a great spot for burgers!" Small joint - order only, but great atmosphere. I popped in on a weekday afternoon and ordered a double hiboy with fries and a shake. The service was fantastic, everyone working there was friendly and pleasant. The food came out fast enough. The fries were great, McDonald's style but better, fresh and just crispy enough. The shake was yummy, old school style, very thick, seems hand spun. The burger though? I wasn't impressed =(. I got mine with lettuce, tomato, ketchup, mustard, and onions. The patties are very large in diameter, but super thin - so thin, it seems like they just flatten and spread out the patties to make it as wide as possible to seem more impressive - and in return, some moisture lost along the way. The burger was super dry, I added two packets of ketchup to try and remedy it. The taste seemed like it could be decent if it hadn't been flattened and dried to infinity. Stopped here for lunch today, and was not pleased with the food. It seems so they might've changed their vendors? I always loved their onion rings, but these did not taste the same. The breading was extra thick instead of being thin and crispy like it used to be. I did not order a hamburger which I used to love because I've been told by others that the hamburgers taste like the frozen quarter inch patties that are just then quickly grilled rather than the thin patties that they used to use. I personally love HiBoy, their burgers are always amazing nearly 99% of the time. There was maybe only one time where my burger was overcooked but it wasn't anything to cry over, the flavor was still amazing. Unfortunately, my friend and I went thru the drive thru recently only to be greeted rudely by the lady taking the order, she didn't say hello, was demanding the order to get us out of the drive thru as quickly as possible, and we were the only ones there at the time so it didn't seem that urgent to me to be rushed through the order. We shrugged off the rude greeting and made it to the window and the lady continued to be rude while she demanded our money for the order. We got home and the order wasn't accurate, and it was kind of the last straw for my friend who had already was having a stressful day. So we called and made a complaint about the experience in particular, I didn't fail to mention that I'm a very frequent customer and I was personally shocked at this experience in particular so I know its not like them to be this way but it still ended up happening and left us a bad (figurative) taste in our mouths about the establishment. The manager got on the phone and offered us a refund and apologized for the experience, so we went in a bit later to pick up the refund. The new lady at the window who wasn't the same one as before greeted us very nicely corrected the issue without questioning it! Thank you random nice lady. Also people should probably wear name tags :p We don't know who to call and complain about or thank for fixing the issue... name tags, people!! Name tags. Oy...my wife is an Independence native so I've been hearing for a while how great it is. My first experience as mixed. I got a HiBoy burger - it's basically a thin, big patty on a bun with some minimal toppings. The burger was cold, and didn't have much flavor. Really, really, really not good. We also got onion rings...holy cow they were awesome. THEY were hot, crisp, and delicious. Also got a small banana shake which was awesome. Geeze. Talk about a blast from the past. Hi Boy is old school in every sense imaginable. Talk to the elderly folks and they will tell you that Hi Boy is reminiscent of the 50's ad 60's without a doubt. I've only been to the location not too far from Arrowhead Stadium and the Independence location that this review is based upon. The food is soooooo bad for you. But gawd it taste so good. The burgers, fries, onion rings, soda's, and shakes are to die for. Greasy, messy, and artery clogging at it's finest. I would have to say my favorite combination is the double burger with grilled onions, pickles, and mustard with a side of those extra crispy onion rings. Throw in a large coke with the crushed ice and I'm good for the day. Word of caution, be prepared to order because the cashiers have zero patience and move really fast and efficiently. There are daily specials and many items to choose from on the menu. Unlike the older Kansas City Missouri location, the Independence site is a little more modern and has inside seating. Nice little framed photo with Albert Pujols is inside as well. Supposedly, he still stops in on occasion. I know it's kinda out of the way for some, but well worth the trip if you want to try old school drive in style food. read more

I really wanted to like HiBoy. I do like that is locally owned, the staff was friendly and we got our food quickly and was fresh. However, not too sure the difference between a regular cheeseburger and the Hiboy burger. The party was very dry and for a double, an extra slice of cheese would have been better. Worst burger I think I've ever had. Fried til absolutely no juicy ness exists. When you walk in there is this kind of babypoo smell, and that remnants is tasted In the burger - yuk!. Fries are much like Arby's which I hate that style. The chocolate shake might as well if just of been scoops of ice cream jammed in a cup, because here I am practicing my sucking skills 20min. Afterwards and still can't drink my shake. Went to the location on 291 Highway in Independence. The Hiboy Burgers were a mess, the meat was off the buns and the wrappers were full of lettuce and pickles. The Onion Rings were a big blob and couldn't be pulled apart and they forgot the Ranch for our order of Fried Pickles. This poor quality of food wasn't worth over $23 for 2 people. This place use to be awesome and now it's just disgusting. Premium prices for poor quality. We won't be returning. read more
