Goated good. Burgers, fries, milkshakes, onion rings. Anything is great. Awesome old timey vibe it's legendary.

This would have been a really good burger, unfortunately there wasn't a sprinkle of salt. Not a hint. The folks there were nice. I tried to get fried pickles but their mic apparently is pretty bad, so no one heard me and I gave up. I'll definitely come back, I'll just have to remember to get salt. I still want to try the onion rings and fried pickles. read more

I've been a fan of HiBoy for over 40 years. Most of my visits have been to the Blue Ridge location but have stopped here plenty of times too. This place has a dining area, so a big plus over the BR location. Like some other burger joints that I grew up on; HiBoy has lost some of it's luster over the decades for me. It's still a solid burger - large and topped with lots of chopped onions, pickles, lettuce and a burger sauce. The tots and O-rings are always good and gotta love a place where you can get a shake or cyclone along with your meal. It's not that HiBoy has changed - other than the pricing keeps going up - it's that there are so many independent "gourmet" burger shacks have sprung up around the city (Cosmo, Danny's, Tay's...) and some very solid chain options (5 Guys, Freddies, What-a-Burger...) so I'm no longer inclined to drive 15 miles for my HiBoy fix anymore. It's now about if I'm in the neighborhood and need a burger, then I stop. I'm still gonna give 5 stars for being so consistent over the decades, the charitable work they do, and just being a local institution for ever. Next time in driving down 24 hwy, Blue Ridge CTO or 291 hwy, I'm sure I'll stop in. read more

100% will NOT be back to this location after 20+ years of patronage. I own a right hand drive car , and after an unfortunate incident of a server dropping a drink in my passenger seat , causing a 450$ detailing and shampoo bill, I go in reverse so I can hand the money and be handed my purchase. I have went through the drive through hundreds of times , and well over 30 times at this particular location alone in reverse. It's never been an issue, anywhere, at all..... until tonight. Pulled up and turned around, as usual. Waited for the car ahead of me to finish ordering , and backed up to the box to order. Before I could even get ordered I was rudely approached by an older white man, and told i wouldn't be served unless I turned around. I tried to explain myself , and was again forcefully told I wouldn't be served. After a few choice words were exchanged between us, I decided it was best to leave to avoid more confrontation. It's never been an issue before , I get a laugh , the servers get a laugh, take a few pics of the car , etc. but after the way mr pocket protector treated me tonight , I'll never be back. This place has a cool nostalgic vibe which is why I stopped here. The dining room was closed so I had to go through drive thru. I ordered the HiBoy burger and onion rings. I thought the prices were high at first but when I actually got the food I was surprised. The burger was huge and the onion rings were a good portion. I wasn't a huge fan of either. The patty on the burger wasn't very flavorful and it wasn't hot. The onion rings were good but nothing to write home about. I wouldn't come here again for regular food but I would be open to trying their shakes or "cyclones" as they call them. read more

This is probably my favorite burger on earth, the place is an institution in this part of Jackson County. I get the double HiBoy burger with onion rings and a Cherry Mash Cyclone...I believe this is the only place you can get one! They keep the restaurant extremely clean, it looks the exact same as 30years ago. I wanted to like this place- it's got a great nostalgic appeal that makes you want to overlook the aged building and decor. if you're in the mood for a mostly plain crispy burger and anything-but-chocolate shake, with a little bit of nostalgia, this is your place. If not, move along. We ordered their hiBoy burger: Decent crispy-edged burgers with sad toppings. The breaded tenderloin was thin but not particularly crispy. Limp fries that I'm pretty sure came from the freezer. We ordered two different shakes- the strawberry was actually really good but the chocolate was tasted like it came from the gas station next door. We had traveled to Kansas before, and had never heard of or stumbled upon a "HiBoy". We happened to be very hungry and we just wanted something quick. We thought about going through the drive-thru but decided to park and go inside. It happened to be Veteran's Day weekend and when we approached the counter we saw a sign that said "free meal for veterans". Both my boyfriend and I are Veterans, so already we were happy campers and excited to try this place. The fact that our meal was free was honestly the icing on the cake. I had a turkey burger and my Boyfriend has a "HiBoy burger" (beef). We each ate half to try them both and they were some of the most delightful and juicy burgers we had ever had. While dining at a neighboring restaurant - the HiBoy Drive-In sign caught my attention. Something about it screamed "vintage" and that I must try something from there. Having just ate - we opted to get an ice cream shake. That was the right choice - the shake was so thick that you had to use a spoon or give you lungs a true test in sucking. Mozzarella sticks are really good. The Hi-Boy burger is good but the burger didn't have much of a flavor. French fries are well-rounded, the atmosphere of the place is old fashioned and really quiet. The workers there have great customer service and have a great smile on their face. read more

Love their burgers. The more meat, the better, the foil wrapper a must in keeping all of the meat goodness from making a mess. The cherry mash Cyclone is a unique menu item that I have not seen anywhere else but at Hi-boys. Their onion rings are the best. I order onion rings at other restaurants hoping that they will taste as good as HiBoy's; none have measured up to date. There is nothing quite like eating good "fast food" in a place that has been serving up burgers, fries, onion rings, shakes and floats to people since 1957. HiBoy Drive-In on US Highway 24 has been successfully turning out all this and more for a long enough time that the location at River and 24 is used by hundreds of locals as a starting place for giving directions. "You know where HiBoy is.... well you go north from there....". I got those words from Sharon a couple of days ago on my way to an appointment and thought "now that would be a handy place to stop for lunch". So I picked up Dear Daughter #1 and we grabbed for the gusto. We both ordered 1/4 Lb. Cheeseburgers and orders of Fried Dill Pickles. An order is four spears, crunchy and lightly seasoned, served with a cup of ranch dressing. The cheeseburger is fried on the flat top grill so it is on the thin side with a bit of crunchy bits at the edges and meat hanging out all around the bun. It is served with chopped onion, pickle slices and 'ketchup sauce'. HiBoy serves the burgers just the way they were probably served over 50 years ago....and that is it's charm. Sometimes I really just want an old school burger and HiBoy is waiting to fill that order. read more

My husband grew up in Independence and we try to visit one of the HiBoys when we are visiting his mom or at least periodically. This year, the Christmas Eve dinner at his Aunt's house was cancelled due to illness so we thought - how about HiBoy?!?!?! Yes they are open until 3:30 pm on Christmas Eve - drive-thru until 4:00. Who knew? I have deducted a star from a different location due to the cost. This place is not cheap. However, my husband found a coupon for a free sandwich if you bought a sandwich and two sides, so that helped. The food is always four stars. The burgers melt in your mouth, the tots and onion rings are the perfect amount of crispy, the strawberry limeades have real strawberries (they can get stuck in the straw if you aren't careful), and the peach Nehi floats are just like the ones at Iconium (you Boy Scouts know what i'm talking about). Shakes are good too, according to my kids. I always get the limeade.And get a large. I got a medium and was sad when it ended so soon, We have never had an issue with service at HiBoy. Maybe we have just been lucky. They even brought our food out to us this time (probably trying to get rid of us as soon as possible since it was Christmas Eve). Although, we are nice, so that helps also. Plus, these are our roots and our people. OK , I'm getting carried away. Just go eat here. The food is great. Me and my family always go to hi boy to enjoy delicious burgers and the great sides. What's also great is that Teenagers work there and they care about their job. The staff cares a lot about the customers they are serving. I have never had a problem here. read more

Walked in to see a worker holding a baby and then immediately return to serving food WITHOUT washing her hands. I stood at the counter with my family, waiting to place our order. When our colleague arrived to pick up the order, they had "lost it" and had to prepare the orders again.
