I walked inside around 1 AM and I noticed the small area for guests to sit down and eat. There's a decent-sized menu with several different options to choose from, but I decided to order the Queso Fries. The food was absolutely stunning. The fries were crispy, fresh, and delicious and the chicken was crunchy, fresh, juicy, and had great flavor. I was surprised at how great the food was, but I was slightly upset because it smelt like marijuana by the register which impacted my experience here. This was a really cool modern place to eat. There's large LED screens with the menus and plenty of pictures of the food spread around to give you an idea of what to order. The workers also knew the menu well and gave recommendations for things to try. I got the Canadian Buffalo waffle with queso fries on the side. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the waffle was soft and fluffy with great flavor from the syrup and ranch. The pickles also added a nice bit of crunch and flavor to the mix. The waffles are bubbly and airy and when you eat them they kind of remind me of a crepe The chicken is pretty good not very seasoned but I'd take that over to salty anyway I had the chicken maple. The first time I tried this restaurant was at an event sponsored by the Nelson Atkins Museum. I am not sure if there was a storefront yet, but at this particular event, there were food trucks only. The menu is set up into two categories, the namesake of course, Chicken plus a waffle (however, not your Grandma's cakey fluffy waffle instead it's a fun and hip bubble waffle fit for a GenZ'er or there is a basic waffle cone option-definitely not my choice but it does exist) or loaded waffle fries (fun take) that can be topped with chicken for an additional charge. The portions are huge so be aware! Choose one or the other, the loaded fries are definitely a meal in themselves or a shareable snack if you find yourself in Westport walking around with some friends. Now here is where things get fun! All the creative topping options and themed chicken and waffle dishes they've created, all the way from a sweet and savory Canadian version to a spiced Tikka Marsala creation. The different categories are rated by spice level as well but, don't be too afraid I've never gotten one that was hotter than a traditional Buffalo sauce. If spice is not at all what you're looking for don't worry they have a tame take on a Chicken Parmesan for your taste buds. But, do not pass up on the waffle fries option! One of my favorites meals I've ever had here was a generous portion of waffle fries, hot and salty gravy on top -their rift on a Canadian poutine and I topped it with churchy deep fried chicken, it was pretty perfect. read more

I got a chance to go to the mecca of the chicken and waffle craze that came from the west coast, which of course is Roscoe's, back in the 1990's. Having said that, I found the experience to be a bit more on the underwhelming side....I have never found it Waffles to be a food item that I was ever interested in, but their chicken....chef's kiss! The Chick-in Waffle is the opposite experience for me. Their waffle, which looks more like a Hong Kong Bubble waffle than it's American counterpart, was amazing, it was crisp and fluffy and every bite was slightly different. I've never been interested in waffles, but these were fantastic. What was not that great was the chicken. I prefer a bone in chicken when it comes to this combo and I would prefer a dark meat. If I'm going to go bad, I'm going to go all in. The chicken here was boneless breast meat and it was fairly dry. While it had great crunch, it was also near tasteless. I really wanted to like this place but at the end of the day, I was only halfway there. I think we both came to the same conclusion that it was okay but not spectacular. However, I personally think the service was very good. The place is small but has a nice atmosphere.
