The waffle was boring, and I didn't even finish my bagel sandwich, but the coffee was so horrible that we didn't bother eating there the second day, even with a free food credit. And that's my favorite kind of food. Not breakfast, but free. DINNER. The wedge salad was tiny and underdressed, the truffle fries and pesto pasta was good, as was the short rib, though it had inedible pickled something instead of potatoes. Yet. They were mid at best. The ribeye steak was decent; tender at some pieces and tough at others (medium rare). I made a (well pre-planned) dinner reservation for New Year's Eve 12/31 on Open Table. They had two options available for booking - (1) the prefixed-price special NYE menu and (2) standard regular menu dining. We selected the latter. On 12/22 I received email confirmation for our reservation from the Food and Beverage Coordinator. It explicitly says, "Please note; Currently your reservation is just for regular dinner service..." which is what we wanted. However, today I received a phone call only a couple days before New Year's, and was told the chefs decided to change the dinner options to only include the prefixed special NYE menu. This is not what we originally booked - or what was also originally confirmed. I asked when this decision was made, the reply from correspondent (who will not be named) was, "A few days ago." This means they had a week to contact customers with standard dinner reservations to make them aware of the change but they waited until last minute to do so. Now it being only a couple of days from NYE, other restaurants are fully booked - leaving us with little to no options. Of course, we'll be able to pivot our plans, but the customer service we received was incredibly unfortunate. She never mentioned anything like, "We're sorry for the inconvenience," or "Here's what we can do for you as a result of this change..." or even "We hope for an opportunity to serve you at our restaurant in the future..." This would have been our first time dining at Conversation - unfortunately, we will not be considering this restaurant again in the future. read more

Came here because we stayed at the Thompson for the weekend and wanted to get brunch before our afternoon flight. Made a reservation for a party of two for 9am on a Monday, which really wasn't necessary for a Monday morning, as there were only three or four tables occupied. The service was friendly and our food came out relatively quickly. We ordered the Brunch & Booze, which is a choice of two entrees and a carafe of orange or grapefruit mimosa. We ordered the Belgian Waffle and Salmon Benedict to split. It was a good amount of food and we drank maybe half of the carafe. For $60, it feels expensive, but someone who really enjoys a good mimosa might appreciate it more. The space is beautiful and the food was delicious. Not sure if it's worth coming back though, especially since our meal was covered by our hotel credit, but it was definitely a good experience. read more

Made a reservation way in advance. Once we were ready to be seated, hostess asked me to move to the side before sitting so she could fill my water glass. Took a while until somebody came to take our order. A few of my friends ordered wine to which the waitress said "we are out of clean wine glasses, so glasses will look different". DO NOT GO HERE Long story short, we never even made it inside. We got to the front desk, and they were checking for vax card and ID card. I showed them a digital version of my vax card and then realized I didn't have my ID. I asked them if they would take a digital version, and they said no, it must be physical. I asked why because they accepted my digital vax card, and all they could say was that it's the hotel policy. I pleaded with them, saying that I wouldn't drink and that I drove almost an hour to come to dinner for my friend's birthday, and the front desk girl didn't even blink an eye and said no. When we called for the manager, we asked him if this policy is anywhere online, he said yes. After spending five minutes searching, he didn't find it, and a random bartender came and said they had the right to refuse service. After working in the service industry for many years, I know that establishments have that right, so we left. Maybe someone can help me make sense of it, but I just can't understand why it's okay for them to accept a digital vax card and not an ID card. I would not suggest this place at all!! read more

Met friends here for dinner on a Saturday night, and while this was a fine experience I don't think any of us would care to return. THE FOOD DIDN'T HIT MANY HIGH NOTES. We started by ordering three appetizers. The beets have the most going for them, the truffle fries were not bad they also weren't the best I've ever had, and the bread was pretty dry and unappealing with butter that didn't add anything to it. I got a squash soup for my main, and it was very one note without much reprieve. Our friends have a slightly better time, though both beef entrees were reportedly cooked very well they were quite under seasoned. All of the drinks were good. THE ATMOSPHERE WASN'T WORTH THE EXTRA PRICE. Public transportation is your best chance of getting here on a busy weekend. We also had a reservation which helped us get a table without waiting. We arrived and they also needed to see a physical ID. The service was fine and the ambience quite nice. None of this made it worth the prices they were charging for mediocre food. With so many great dining options around this area, I can't think of why we would return here for middling, pricey food. read more

Right in the heart of downtown Seattle, which means parking can be tough but I was able to find paid street parking pretty close by. The restaurant is filled with plants and a ton of natural lightening. I came here for a birthday brunch on a Saturday morning and they can accommodate larger groups very well. There was about 15 of us in a room in the back and we were comfortable and able to hear each other back there. Docking a star because they do have gluten free options but the portion of my avocado toast compared to the one that was not gluten free was nearly half. The second was to continue our New Year resolution of dining at restaurants new to us. The first mission was almost accomplished. We had an excellent meal topped off with the Chopped winning desert, Dark Chocolate Custard. Yes, the charcuterie board was enjoyable, the braised short ribs were fabulous, and the lamb/beef Bolognese hit the spot; however, the Dark Chocolate Custard was pure heaven. The only miss was Chef Bliss was not in the restaurant :( I should have called ahead. Don't worry, everything else was top notch. The staff was great, extra attention due to the light crowd. The second mission of choosing new restaurants is a fun way to try out all of the culinary locations in greater Seattle/Bellevue area. Yes, I recommend. Yes, I will be back. read more

Unfortunately, they have just changed their menu and we just do not like it as much as the previous one. The ribs and shrimp on the last menu were absolute stars of the show, sadly they do not have anything like it on this new menu. There is definitely something to talk about after dining here, and it's not all good. It started off rough for sure, since we had reservations and came about 5 minutes early and were told to wait. I'm okay with that since we were early, however I wasn't expecting to wait 15 minutes past my reservation. Once seated and browsing through the menu there were quite a few ingredients we liked and I say ingredients since there was no explanation of preparation so we did have a conversation with our waiter. I don't mind that though since he was best part of our meal being very knowledgeable about the food. The plates were meant to be shared but the dishes had no rhythm as they came out. Some came fast and other had long waits between. Started with chicharron were messy and stale. They need to make it fresh to order or take it off the menu. Followed by the porchetta and crudo, both nicely presented but overly salted on both. The rockfish was actually pretty good, but would have liked some crispier skin. The carrot hummus was solid dish, but why after the rockfish? Order of food was a bit off as it should have came out earlier. After a super long wait for dessert, we almost asked for them to cancel since it took so long, the London Fog was an instangramable dessert with cotton candy dissolving away to see the dessert inside. While it was a hip vibe and presentation was spot on, the food and wait times don't outweigh it. Especially with some many options with restaurants popping up downtown. read more

Long story short the hostess declined to seat us - the kitchen was closing - and me and my wife settled at the bar for 2 beers. I've been dying to come here for quite some time. This restaurant is tucked inside The Thompson Hotel. When I saw that Conversation was listed on Seattle restaurant week. It was fate that I had to come for my birthday lunch. I had an amazing experience here. First of all the service is amazing - everyone was super welcoming, attentive, and had it TOGETHER. I love the overall theme of the restaurant they had little cards that people can leave of conversation starters. It was great clinking cocktails and chatting about "What's a fashion trend that you wish would be left behind?". Now let's talk about the food. This place takes plating very seriously. The dishes were truly so beautiful - it hurt to eat it. We got the oysters with dip n dots yes dip n dots.. you would be surprised w the flavor, it really compliments the kimchi tartness. I got the burger... mushrooms, fried onions, and drunken goat cheese. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I was skeptical because i'm not the hugest goat cheese fan but wow. I am now a goat cheese fan. We really wanted to like this place. The menu looks good, they had open reservation for a Saturday night, and they're close to pike place (the surrounding environment is popping), but unfortunately it was just not that great. Parking can be a nightmare but you can use the hotel's valet for free and If you eat at the restaurant they'll waive the charge. When we got inside I was surprised to see that the restaurant was completely empty (on a Saturday night). They seated us promptly. The aura and ambiance is super cute with lots of plants. When we sat down, the booth was a velvet texture but it was covered in crumbs which was odd since it didn't seem like they had any customers prior to us. They have cocktails on the menu but when you get in and they give you the paper menu there are no cocktails listed. When we asked they did say the offered cocktails but couldn't tell us about any of them which was kind if a bummer. We ended up getting two appetizers, the roasted oysters (husband liked them) and the charcuterie board (I was really bummed, I love charcuterie boards and this one only had two types of cheese -three extremely, extremely thinly sliced pieces. Meats were good, but the ratio of meat to cheese and crackers was super bizarre to me) Entrees were the lamb and beef bolognese and the 12oz Ribeye. Both were pretty good, the ribeye I was very excited about but when it came out i was honestly surprised, it was COVERED in fingering potatoes and fried onion rings (like massive large onion rings). There were so many potatoes on the plate that I couldn't move them off the steak to get to it without them falling off the plate. Once I could get to my steak (by putting potatoes on to my husbands plate) it was actually pretty good, presentation was just super bizarre, again, I didn't understand why it came out that way and how it made it so much more difficult to enjoy the entree Overall it was a average restaurant but the bill wasn't worth the food in my opinion read more

Came for brunch and it's a nice restaurant in Seattle near Pike Place Market. They have standard brunch items but if you like crab, there is a dungeness crab benedict. The sausage and gravy is a good choice as well. I would recommend making reservation if coming on the weekend for brunch. Service was good. read more

Words can't express how good this burger was. Please go try it! Also, if you need a place to impress your date, definitely order the desserts! I tried all of them and they were all so pleasant. Okay, really interesting...look up a video entitled "philosophy", which is a Monty Python skit set in a restaurant where the waiters suggest conversations for diners to have with each other. It almost seems as if Conversation, in the lobby of the Thomson Hotel, often passed by by the patrons of the popular rooftop bar, was conceived around that very skit. Conversation, explained our waiter, is an attempt to recenter the idea of diners actually talking to each other during meals rather than taking foodie photos (why not both?) At the back of the menu is even a card that suggests ideas for conversations to have, exactly as in the skit! The food itself is wonderful, very beautiful and instagrammable, with creative ingredients. The octopus mole was a yin/yang of earth tones (maroon and green), the Lamb Wellington was accompanied by a sunomono hidden under a pea pasta blanket, the dessert was a Chocolate Fudge Black Truffle popsicle. Maybe mediocre food could have created more of a conversation, as nothing unites two parties better than a common enemy! The Oregon wine was delightful, and the wait staff's attention to detail was perhaps over the top. Two times did our waiter correct the motions of the serving staff - first it was replacing spoons with those of the right size, another was adjusting the placement of the cutlery - so, obsessed with the details of the bronze cutlery. So for all its ups and downs there is much to converse about at Conversation. Even its logo of a sound wave stimulated a brief discussion of the increasing earthquakes on the West Coast. Maybe Conversation's entry into the Seattle dining scene could be just as seismic. read more

Came here for a Sunday brunch when the first restaurant didn't workout. It was 10:30am on Sunday, we walked in and were sat immediately! The atmosphere was sleek and modern with cozy tables by the fire, or bench seating. The Crab egg Benedict was literally to die for! I am not an egg or Benedict person but this was delish and perfectly executed according to my sister. The 4 bites I had were so tasty I wanted to steal her breakfast! However I ordered the waffle with the compote, berries and syrup on the side (I order on the side so the waffle doesn't get soggy). The waffle had an amazing flavor, which included cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla somewhere in the mix. When all the items were combined together it was a succulent bite! I regret not taking a picture of my food now !! I would definitely recommend this restaurant!
