Besides the pharmacy in the back there are the usual items available; OTC medicines, toothpaste, etc. They also sell real boar bristle brushes, in addition to the usual suspects. There are some higher-end, expensive items such as hair clips, bath powders, and other toiletries. I like to browse them when I'm there to pick up a prescription. Or I did. My insurance took Bigelow off its list of pharmacies, so I am once again stuck with Walgreens, CVS, etc. I hope they put them back on soon! In the meantime, I go there for everything but Rx. Their profession is beset with challenges. Even the big chains such as Duane Reade are facing consolidation. So they are rare, the old time drugstore that remains on its own. My wife and I have been here twice. It was for the same reason. We live nowhere near here. I'm over in Queens; she is 2500 miles away. But we have had dinner around here. Each time, we have arrived early, and we have stopped in to shop for a moment. At a small shop, I always plan to make a purchase when I set foot inside. That is only right. It happens, however, they have the best stock of neck braces we have ever seen. My wife had to have three discs fused. She has long term bone issues, due to two types of arthritis and lupus. The condition necessitates the wearing of a neck brace often. She likes specific brands for their fit. But you have to search for what she is looking for. These items also wear out and are discontinued. She was thrilled to see the selection here. They also had protective sheaths. In addition to what is conventionally available, this business had a few of those oddities such as European imports, throat lozenges and such. The staff were friendly. You don't find that at the big generic establishments.

The main part of the pharmacy is further back about 10 paces. The people here generally don't speak English well except for the occasional college student there. They generally cater to the patients that speak Cantonese and Mandarin. They accept most insurance cards and Part D Medicare. Have your Social Security# ready if you don't have your Medicare information with you. When trying to give refills for things that are special orders such as anything that comes only brand name call 1 weekday ahead (so if you plan to pick it up Sat call Friday morning, don't expect anything to be there on Sun, they don't get delivery for their supplies until Monday) so they order it for you. Call the Number on the label and when someone picks up tell them you want to have a refill done. They will normally transfer you to someone that can help. Give the Rx# on the label and they will normally confirm another bit of information to make sure it is yours. When filling a new prescription you'll get a number (that you'll have to return) and I suggest waiting there if you are the only one there or come back later if there are more than 3 people waiting ahead of you. You should call them later to ask them if everything is ready to be picked up so you don't have to walk back here. Generally pretty busy right after lunch time 2-3pm and quiet around 9-10am and 5pm-close.
