Looking for a neighborhood pharmacy and I had high hopes for this place. Seems like it would be cool to support a local pharmacy that was not a big chain. After waiting on a very long hold for the pharmacist to ask him a question, he just kept asking me who I was, and wouldn't give me a chance to talk, and then he hung up the phone on me. It was very strange and rude. Super disappointed. read more

I would call this place, a charmingly grumpy pharmacy. There's a lot of character here. And they have surprisingly good versions of all of the things they carry. It feels like a slice of New York, and it definitely feels good to be supporting what is obviously a small business. My one small occasional gripe is that you need to be very specific when ordering your medication is otherwise you might get the wrong thing refilled. read more

Brutal, odd and sometimes useful is the best way to describe this place. It's out of the 1950s, everything feels 1000 years old. And don't ask a question, you will be snapped at. But if you need crutches, they have some. Can't say I've bought much here but weirdly keep going back to be told off about the medical supplies I'm looking for. read more

Old School friendly neighborhood pharmacy. So much better than the National chains. Hard to find in these times

It's a shame. I really wanted to like this place and support a small local pharmacy instead of the big chains, but the Pharmacist left me with no other choice. I have been coming here for months since I moved to the area, and I get very good benefits through my job, which includes a great prescription drug program. One of my medications which I need is a bit pricey, and my insurance makes it extremely cheap for me. I went today to pick up my refills, and the price for my meds was 7X higher. When I asked about my Rx program, the pharmacist straight up told me "to be frank" that the price is too low for him, and that he's losing money for what he normally could charge for that medication. And he's just going to refuse to use my benefits for now on. Then he told me to go to another pharmacy. A part of me appreciates the blunt honesty, but that's awful customer service. The pharmacist doesn't care about the customers or loyalty. He only cares about profit. He flat out told me to get a new pharmacy just because he wasn't making enough money from me. Well now I'm going to get a new pharmacy, and he'll be making even less money from me ($0). I don't understand how he can run a business like that??? read more

Thankful for this little place and that it has made it through the pandemic even while local CVS has closed.

This place is a miracle. It reminds me so much of the French pharmacies. I believe the owners are French, at least the person at the cash register sounded like he was. I am in awe how I was able to find my all time favorite thing: Papier d'Arménie, which is a type of Armenian paper produced in France, when you burn it like incense it deodorizes the room in the most subtle way. This stuff is so good, I had some I bought in France in the past that I was saving. Now I know that the Whitney Chemists have it, I'll just use it all the time. I cook kale a home, or delicious stuff with garlic, the Amernian Paper is my solution to deodorize the place in no time! They also sell French toothbrushes and kinds of toothpaste, which I love. I was walking by this store yesterday and was drawn inside by the tempting window display. It's a very small place, but - in particular - they have a great selection of beautiful soaps (one of my semi-obsessions). I could hear the two employees talking at the back of the store, but no one approached me initially. However, the woman was pleasant when I spoke to her before leaving and she told me the store has been there for about *80 years* (I don't know how I never noticed it before, although it's been eons since I walked down that block). Simply the best pharmacy in NYC! Friendly, caring and treats clientele like family! I love everyone there. Carlos is so caring and thoughtful as is Marie. Christine who curates all the beautiful goods is charming and lovely to everyone and engages everyone personally! Whitney is your old fashioned local chemists you grew up with in NYC. It is ABSOLUTELY NOT a big cold chain store who's business is to put all the small special places out of business. The big chains might have well stocked shelves, but with stocked with the "expected" -nothing special and certainly couldn't care less about "you" because the barcode reading machines do not say "how are you feeling?" And if Whitney doesn't have "it" in the store, they will make a call and have it for you next day. They have me for life! read more

Great customer service. Tiny tiny store with hardly any room to turn around but I needed a prescription filled for a surgery the next day and they did everything they could to get it to me as fast as possible. The German lady at the counter was wonderful and followed up with me. The pharmacist did everything he could to call my doctor after hours and followed up the next morning. Sure, I watched her be super nice to other people, and saw the ever so unfortunate anger when I was spotted... smiled and said hello..basically the message was "GET OUT" No I don't smell, I'm young professional .. What can I say. I'll never know. She had a tone, stared at me acted like it was a huge deal to assist me, and when I moved out of her view she sighed "oh brother". To add insult to injury I generously said Bye have a nice day, feeling so awful I caused her so much pain, and she did not even blink. If it looks like one. .walks like one... Anyway. I hate writing this stuff, people like me do not frequent stores like this. And you can see why. No I've never been treated like this at bigelow. read more

It is October 2018. However good Whitney may have been in the past, it is now awful. The pharmacist is rarely there. He has many different guys covering for him, none of whom seem capable. What is more, they don't communicate with the pharmacist so that he has no idea what orders have come in when he was away. It is totally disorganized and unprofessional. read more

This is a throwback to the days when pharmacies sold aspirin and cough syrup and dispensed medication with kindly concern for your health, before chains like Duane Reade - the Starbucks of drug stores - infiltrated the city with countless stores filled with endless aisles of cheap crap and surly cashiers that can crack gum but not a smile. Stock may be limited, but if they have what you need, buy it here and support the little guy struggling to survive in the shadows cast by impersonal corporate giants. read more

This is truly a neighborhood chemists where everybody knows your name. Christine, the woman behind the counter, is a favorite with the neighborhood dogs. She keeps bisquits behind the counter for her canine buddies. There is even a picture of my dog hanging on the wall. read more

Because I have rosacea, I use natural products like Nuxe face creme and immediately I was impressed by Christine who is a no-nonsense lady and knowledgeable about skin care. She isn't stingy with giving samples either and offers one of the best prices for nuxe face creme in town . 5 stars. plus, dog friendly store. read more

When you call this pharmacy, you are stuck in a never ending loop of forced telephone messages. You can't get to a human being. Love the idea of supporting a great neighborhood pharmacy. Don't make it so difficult to do business with you. Today, I tried to stopped by on the way to the office at 9:30 am and it wasn't open yet. Late openings happen much too often here. Not a good business practice when your surrounded by 3 other pharmacies in a 3 block radius. read more
