I have been a huge superfood and wellness junkie for as long as I could remember and this place has the best inventory in the city. It has EVERYTHING, including hard to find items and they are better priced too. RUDE x 10 squared!!! As usual I dread asking for any help in this store. They have everything, but it's hard to find. I ask a cashier leaving his post for help and he waves me on. Alright, he's a cashier. Two employees talking with name tags on, one seems to be a manager of sorts. "Can you help me find something", I say and the manager-looking guy curtly says someone behind the counter will help you. I ask the guy at the back counter and wait for a reply...nada. I ask again and he says, "Have some patience." I say "I have patience but I want to know if you can help me. I've waited 10 minutes here before and walked out of the store." So he helps me and is actually polite. Luck of the draw for help here. You'll see plenty of corroborating complaints about the rudeness of workers here. In fact it's the ONLY complaint. They should stagger workers for lunch and give courses on proper etiquette with customers. read more

I came in here last week for probiotics on a recommendation from a friend. In my mind, I pictured some cramped and crusty corner store with a surly staffer behind the counter. I was pleasantly surprise to find Willner to be a very large, well-lit corner store, staffed by friendly and helpful people. This place is like a Home Depot for health and wellness. There is aisle after aisle of vitamins and supplements, etc. The staff is friendly too. Someone showed me where the probiotics were and the specific brand and I was on my way. This pharmacy has a great atmosphere and variety of vitamins. They also have a good variety of children's vitamins. The only negative factor was that the associate was very short when answering my question. Therefore, I asked someone else and they were a lot more helpful. read more

Cashiers are unfriendly and act as if they are doing you a favor to ring you up while they ignore you and talk with each other. Cant tell you who to ask for help. This review echoes other reviews describing rude employees. I stopped in to the Park Avenue location at approximately 4:45 this evening, looking to pick up two products. I asked the young lady at the front counter if the store carried them, she looked them up on her computer, then told me to ask at the back of the store. At the back, I saw a male employee picking up shopping baskets and, approaching him, said, "Excuse me, the person at the front counter suggested I --" He interrupted me and said, gruffly, "I don't care who told you what. You're talking to me now. Hand me that paper." He was referring to the paper on which I'd written the names of the products. Shocked at his aggressive response, I just handed him the paper, and he walked around to another aisle. I then went to where he was, and he handed me a couple of bottles, asking about strengths/dosages. I said to him, "You were just unbelievably rude." He then abruptly turned and walked away. I said, after him, "I'm contacting the manager about this," to which he responded, "Go ahead. I don't give a s---." I went to the back counter and asked the woman behind it for the manager's name, and she wrote it down for me: Len Goldstein. I asked if he were there, and she made a call, then said Mr. Goldstein was out of the building. I spoke to the pharmacist about the incident, and then began walking toward the front exit. I saw the rude employee hanging around at the front counter, and told him again I would be contacting the manager. He laughed and walked away. I then asked the young woman working the counter for his name, and she said "Alen." (Alen appears in one of the other Yelp reviews, by the way.) I *had* been a longtime customer of Willner Chemists, but stopped shopping (at the Park Avenue store) because I saw, about a year ago, a similar encounter between an employee (not the same employee) and another customer. I stopped in today just because I was in the neighborhood, but I will never patronize the store again. read more

I needed a specific product and they directed me to the aisle and said if i needed any assistance (there were many similar products to choose from) they would be happy to help. Stores like this make me feel like my earthly shell is shiny chrome and plastic wrap -- like I'm a machine that, if only I used the right unguents and supplements, I could run cleaner, burn brighter, and live longer. Yesterday, on the way back to the subway from my dentist, I stopped off to check out the book selection. Mixing mainstream health texts with kookier books, this is a health and fitness enthusiast's bookshelf, as well as a physical conspiracy theorist's enablement. The tomes seemed to be healthily discounted, so that's promising. I haven't checked out their stock of supplements yet, and while it might be awhile before I can return to do so -- there's a good vitamin shop and a GNC closer to my usual workday pathways -- it's good to keep in mind when you find yourself in midtown. Not sure how their general prices compare to other options, but my guess is that their stock is pretty comprehensive and wide ranging. read more

Brown haired girl who works at the front desk when I go on Fridays is extremely rude and pretends she can't hear me when I ask for help on where something is. Finally when she "heard me" she didn't even wait for me to to tell her what I was looking for, she just sent me to the back to ask the pharmacist. The staff is very helpful as well; they know the place from top to bottom. Willner is great. I frequent this vitamin and supplement heaven about once a month - sometimes more - to stock up on essentials from vegetarian multivitamins to milled flaxseed to jojoba oil. The staff has experience, extensive knowledge of products and are patient. They have the best (or comparable) prices around for everything. This is my new go to health store for everything apart from fresh produce. It's dangerously seductive with high ceilings, openness and welcoming atmosphere. I always stick to my list so I don't go over my budget but usually end up picking up a few extras things (mostly vitamins). As another reviewer wrote, the extensive selection of quality vitamins is amazing-- My favorite brand Solgar is well-stocked here. All the other stuff (natural beauty products), every tincture and essential oil imaginable is all available here plus tons of packaged health foods (protein powders etc.) Unlike other reviewers, the salespeople are generally friendly and if anything eccentric (not necessarily rude). That being said, they are a little weird.... regardless love this place, close enough to help keep my healthy and happy. read more

Willner has the best selection of vitamins and supplements in the city, hands down. They stock EVERYTHING here, and the prices on many brands are close or equal to what you'd pay online. I have been a customer for over 20 years. I thought it was a wonderful store with huge selection of kinds of vitamins and supplements. The sales help has been helpful but as many people have commented they do have an attitude. I always figured I paid a little extra for items. But what is a few dollars for trust? last week I went in and asked for Turmeric with pepper which a doctor had recommended me to take for back injury. The salesperson helped me and we looked at several brands but could not find a pill with 1000 units. we finally found one that was half that so I would take in twice a day. Then the cashier told me a bottle of 120 pills was $44. I do not think I have ever paid that much for a supplement especially an herb. I paid and when I came home I searched the internet. Amazon where I am a prime customer( no shipping costs) had the same brand Gaia for $26.55. I then went on My Natural Market and the same bottle was $29.32 and with free shipping. i went back to Willner and asked for a manager and a man finally came out that I had never seen before. Now I have been coming for 20 years at least 4-6 times a year. I showed him the printed pages from the internet and I said I think his market was out of line. No apologies they just can not do better or match other peoples prices. All retailers are crying the blues about loosing business to the internet but why would i pay almost twice the price of an item. They have been taking advantage of us for a long time so Willner has lost a longtime customer. I can not trust them to spend my money wisely. This store has a great selection of vitamins and supplements. I love being able to walk around and compare ingredients and prices among the high-quality brands. They also carry a variety of all-natural fluoride-free toothpaste as well as cleansers, scrubs, and creams without the chemicals and preservatives the drug-store varieties have. Most of the sales help (I've been assisted by about a dozen over the years I've been coming here) are very helpful and knowledgeable. My only complaint is about a young woman working as a cashier [the same one I've checked out with 8 times this year so far, who has yet to crack a smile or show any facial expression] at the front of the store. Last Friday, I purchased 2 bottles of liquid vitamins/antioxidants & 3 bottles of capsules. She was putting a bottle into a small paper bag and I told her she only had to put the 2 liquid bottles into the paper bags (last time she had put every item into a paper bag and then all of the bag-wrapped items into a plastic bag). She was clearly annoyed that I had interrupted her process, and after I had paid, she left all the items sitting on the counter. I waited, looking her in the eye, and after several minutes of a staring contest, I gave in and told her that I needed a bag so I could carry the items out of the store. With her dead-eye gaze, she begrudgingly put the items into a bag. Maybe I'm off base and this cashier is heavily medicated, or maybe she is mentally challenged. But it seems more likely that she is unfriendly and has an attitude - someone I'm surprised a place like Willner would have directly dealing with customers. read more

Went in with my sister on Thursday. As we opened the door two POC ( non blacks) and Dame (?) were at the counter. They were talking to each other and gave each other an odd look as we entered. Not friendly or inviting.when my sister asked about refrigerated probiotics, Dame walked in near us and directed us to the frig in the rear of store. My sister, who used to shop regularly here, spoke to Dame (said his name) and mentioned she would know the product when she saw it. I already had a bad vibe when I saw the look exchanged between the staff. When Dame walked us to the frigerator and went back up front without a second thought, it was evident that he did not value us or care about our patronage. Did not assist in any way. ( he would have known right away the product but did not care to ask). After about 5 minutes, we did find the product- label had changed. As we are walking to front of store, Dame appears and my sister asked him where the Experience was located. Thankfully he at leaat told us they were out of the product and it was on order. No info on when it was expected. Personally I would have left the product (totalling around $80 bucks of my sisters hard earned money) right there but we did come from Staten Island to get it. I used to order items for my sister online but I have no intention of ever ordering or entering Wilner's again. Obviously, they won't miss my money. read more

I purchased 5 items, but the cashier only put 4 in my bag. I didn't realize that until the next day. I called and spoke to the manager. He was abrupt but said, according to his records, he could not verify my complaint but offered to sell me the same item for 50% off. Very knowledgeable staff! My doctor suggested Wilner's after I reached a boiling point for a 2 months period of sleeplessness. I arrived (tired, irritated and only slightly hopeful) with a long list of vitamins the doctor had suggested, the lady at the cashier helped me immediately in gathering the "harvest". She asked me what were all these for, and I gave her my sob story, she then suggested Chinese herbal medicine. I shrugged, why not. She looked up my symptoms and matched it up with 2 different types of "Health Concerns" meds. As my batch of vitamins were hovering over $100, I chose the $33 herbal meds instead. It has been about a week since I've started taken these pills, in addition to Vitamin D (as it turns out through blood works that I am D deficient), I've been sleeping a LOT better.
