I've been going to this pharmacy for years and all the great reviews about their customer service and care toward their customers is true. I used to be an employee as a nurse at 305 west end so I frequently was at Joseph pharmacy for our patients there at 305. Although I haven't worked down there in many years , I still travel to go to their pharmacy. Tonight One of the store clerks stood in the isle watching me as I searched for B-12 vitamins; The cashier was very rude and rushing me even accused me of not paying for a pair of gloves that I bought from Joseph pharmacy 2 weeks ago two weeks ago and just took off my hands so I can get my debit card. Then I had to unlock my card before paying, I was the only one on the line, she was rushing me saying "Are you finished?" annoyed she was. I spent over $50 and in the past spent hundreds in their because they always carry my peppermint soap. I don't know if these are new owners or if their just bias towards black women, but I won't be revisiting and spending my hard earned money on people who treat you unjustly. Always helpful; both the store and the pharmacy section. It has the family feel while being so professional. I made sure to submit all my medical ID for my prescriptions and the Pharmacy saved the data. They were able to order something that other pharmacies didn't have. Another time, they called me to tell me that they called my dentist and was waiting for him to get back to them. Attentive to detail. Two different pharmacy employees told me they were ordering a medication for me, and then a third told me that they had indeed ordered a prescription for me and that they would check if it had been filled yet. When I called to check the status, I was put on hold for a long time, and then simply told "I don't know who you talked to, but we don't have this medication and we're not going to fill it." I tried to ask what was going on but the man spoke over me - "we're not gonna fill it, we're not gonna fill it." Look elsewhere. read more

I've never in my entire life encountered such caring and professional staff, they truly care about their customers and they show it. I have to get very expensive prescriptions filled regularly and they go out of their way and provide coupons , I was paying well over $150 a month for very important prescriptions they found a way for me to only pay a total of $25. I have been shopping at Joseph's for years. The customer service in the merchandise area has invariably been *impeccable*, professional and friendly. There is always staff on the floor who is happy to provide advice. Every request I have ever made was properly followed up upon. This independent pharmacy and drug store is great -- an absolutely flurry of activity inside, but all of it focused and fast, and the prices on the merchandise are some of the lowest around (with senior discounts, too). Today, I had to cancel my flu shot appointment set for tomorrow, but I know I need one and I also know that with my schedule if I don't get it done when I'm thinking about it I never will. The pharmacy I usually use only takes appointments on their website, so I walked five blocks south to Joseph's, where they don't know me at all, and they took me as a walk-in within 10 minutes, including processing my insurance etc. (no out-of-pocket at all). The service here is really genuine and they truly do care about their customers, which is a rarity. I was having issues with a prescription and I was very obviously stressed about not being able to access it. Dave went out of his way to accommodate and calm me down; then briefed me on the possibilities of what happened and informed me a lot about the system that processes the medications, despite it being slammed. Not just that, but he personally called me back with the resolution and full on explanation as to why this specific case happened (which he did not necessarily need to do) This place is a 90s throwback, looks like it would fit into a scene in Ghost World. So if you're looking for a pharmacy with spiffy interior and a green juice, then don't come here. But, if you want quality products with a wide range (a lot of "hard-to-find" brands along with the basics") and service that is beyond, then this is the place. read more

Joseph is a great local pharmacy. You get actual, personal attention from the pharmacy staff. They are also highly efficient and capable. If you need particular notification methods or delivery, they get it done right the first time. Everyone behind the pharmacy desk is knowledgeable and helpful. And there is usually staff available to help you find things in the store. Like any good NYC drugstore that isn't a Duane Read or CVS, Joseph needs to fit a lot of useful inventory into each square foot. And they really do a great job with this. The Duane Reade around the corner is probably triple the size, but I often have an easier time finding things at Joseph. The selection of vitamins and over-the-counter products is extensive and very well organized. The prices are reasonable. The lines are generally short, if they exist at all. I can't say enough positive things about Joseph's. On a day when I went to three Duane Reades to try and fill a prescription (and each turned me away with a "the pharmacist is out today" or "our computer is broken" kind of crap) I walked into Joseph's at around 8:30pm sneezing my eyes out and begging for mercy. The lovely people at the pharmacy were so helpful and easy to deal with. There was no waiting in line like Duane Reade because there were multiple people working the pharmacy counter. They took my prescription, made a photocopy of my insurance card, and sent me on my way. The next morning, same deal - no waiting in line and no hassle. I would go here over DR or Rite Aid any day for prescriptions. In terms of general drug stores, they do have a smaller selection than most, but there are definitely some quality items on those shelves. read more

Great for the random special deals that they have... e.g. huge tube of Colgate Total for $1.99 (instead of $5+ at DR or CVS). I go in every day at lunch to get a drink (cheapest waters/sodas/teas around) and try to take advantage of their deals whenever they're having them. No credit card minimum. read more

Great service, friendly staff, the people at Joseph go to any lengths they can to help navigate a complicated insurance landscape. Having gone to many duane reads in NYC and having had terse, frustrating experiences with a few different pharmacists, it was refreshing to discover a place where people want to help. I moved and there are now 5 pharmacies that are closer to me, but I kept Joseph because while any place will have the medications I need, Joseph has customer service I haven't been able to find anywhere else. read more

I love Joseph's Pharmacy. My parents moved into the Esplanade a few years ago, and they provide unbelievable support. They are friendly, caring, helpful. I could keep going, but I think you get the gist. I live on the West Coast, and have found them so easy to deal with. When I'm here, I stop in - and have always been able to find whatever we need. They deliver anywhere in the neighborhood, and in a timely fashion. No matter how busy they are, even if harried they are friendly and helpful. I wish that I could transfer all their prescriptions over, but can't due to my parents prescription plan. Love this pharmacy! Forget the long lines at Duane Reade. There are more people on the counter and behind it at Joseph's. Service is fast, friendly and knowledgeable. It feels like an old fashioned place where they really care. They deliver and seem to have meds in stock 99% of the time (unlike DR). I also like their pill bottles which have the option of either child safety mode or not, depending on how you close them. None of that annoying and difficult simultaneous pinch and turn. Can't tell you how important this was after a recent shoulder surgery that rendered my dominant arm useless. Very thoughtful. Less selection of other things (hair products etc) but a more well chosen selection. I highly recommend Joseph's. read more

My husband and I both need at lot of somewhat unusual medications, unfortunately. We have had bad experiences with chain pharmacies not calling us when a refill was out of stock, or simply failing to check their messages and fill called-in prescriptions. And we had shockingly bad experiences at Apthorpe Pharmacy, the other independent pharmacy within walking distance--they filled prescriptions with the wrong medications, failed to hand me all of my prescriptions when I went to pick them up, told me something was in stock when I was out of it and only in the city long enough to pick up the prescription, and charge for very, very late deliveries, on top of which it seemed like each staff member worked alone and did not communicate with any of their colleagues. So switching to Joseph's Pharmacy was an enormous relief. They are quick and competent, usually have even our weird meds in stock, deliver for free and within the hour, and have yet to make a mistake (we switched pharmacies six months ago and have filled at least 40 prescriptions since then). The one time they only had half of the pills I needed in stock, they even called to remind me to pick up the other half of my prescription when I forgot about it for a week. I really like these guys--unlike every chain pharmacy I've ever used, and unlike their local independent competitors, they take their work seriously and are hyper-competent. Also, when I have waited for prescriptions, I have watched the pharmacy cashier deal with some very prickly, probably insane, definitely way-too-self-important Upper West Side customers with grace and style--very impressive. read more

I was just there today.....during craziness of hoarding due to Coronavirus....had so much trouble getting prices of items that were in a flyer...first no flyer...then that was last month's flyer..then cashier charges me regular price and when I insist he made a mistake he insisted he charged me correctly...GOUGING?!?!?!? maybe..I hate to make a mistake...just be careful when you shop there these days!!!!! read more
