I am a bit of an expert when it comes to reviewing pharmacies as I have been getting a compounded medicated for nearly two decades (since 2006). I know what makes a pharmacy good, mediocre, and bad. And Apthorp Pharmacy is great; I almost always work with Bill (one of the pharmacists) but the others are great as well. They have always been quick to compound my medication, without hassle and their pricing is very competitive. There are a lot of chain pharmacies out there most people don't even know independent pharmacies exist but it is worth seeking out Apthorp. There's just no good reason to goto a chain when you have Apthorp in the neighborhood; They even deliver to your house or work for no extra cost locally (or a small fee if you need to send via FedEx). If you have any questions the pharmacists are knowledgeable. They also respond quickly by SMS/text message, which I greatly appreciate. I've been going here since at least 2017 and the service has always been top notch (which is rare, especially in NYC, to get such consistently good service). PSA: YOU CAN GET YOUR VACCINES HERE!!!!!!! I am so grateful to Apthorp pharmacy for providing me with both my first and second COVID-19 vaccines. The problem is that they aren't easy to find online to book appointments so they asked me to spread the word to my friends because they're getting in a new shipment of vaccines from the CDC next week. While I was waiting to receive my vaccine, receiving the vaccine and waiting 15 minutes after to make sure everything was sitting right, the staff were so friendly and helpful when it came to the injection, next steps, and what they required for the first and second meetings. When you book your appointment with Apthorp to receive your COVID-19 vaccine make sure that you thoroughly read and follow the instructions on each of the emails they send. Worst pharmacy ever. I witnessed the pharmacist yell at a senior citizen woman and belittle her because she was asking about the status of her script. She was agitated and rather than console her he yelled at her. Next straw was they informed us they no longer were going to stock a drug that is fairly common. And finally our Dr left a couple of messages to fill a prescription and they claimed it wasn't on their answering service. Guess they don't really care. read more

Hate to bring up another business, but after dealing with the local CVS and the fact that they never had insulin in stock and didn't really care much about getting it in the store speedily, it's been a relief to know that Apthorp cares enough to make sure that they have their clients' medicine for them/us. Apthorp Pharmacy is an NYC gem! Even if you do not live on the UWS this feels like a local pharmacy and they easily service the entire city - and further with their option for overnight shipping via FedEx. I have been in touch with Apthorp regularly lately - in person and over the phone - and highly recommend them. Their Pharmacists and team members are patient, knowledgeable and kind. At one point, I probably called Apthorp 5 or 6 times in one day. One of their pharmacists, Jordan, was particularly wonderful to work with. He answered all of my questions, made sure I had everything I needed and even rushed to have an item delivered to me downtown (in just 30 minutes) when I realized I was missing it. And, Jordan shared the pharmacy department's direct line in case I had any other questions. Nicole has also been great to work with and even called to confirm I had everything I needed ahead of a recent snowstorm. The Apthorp team makes it clear that they are available via phone, text, email - and even have pharmacists on call after business hours. I also appreciated that they called me when something was not covered by my insurance (which I knew) before they ran my card. Apthorp feels like a small, local pharmacy in the midst of a big city - in the best way. They are also offering the COVID vaccine and I was touched by how personal and thoughtful the team was to people coming in for their shots when I was there in person recently. OMG!!! I !!!!!!! My medical representative talked to someone in the prescription area and he told her my script was $160.00.....I was upset because the month before, I paid just $80.00 elsewhere.....When I picked up my meds, they charged me $187.00!!!!!!!! Well, how about GoodRx cost is $64.14 if I woulda gone to CVS... I was only trying to support a local retail store....... There used to be a dry cleaner I always used, also called 'Apthorp'....about 15 years ago, I brought a jacket there to be cleaned.....They charged me SIXTY DOLLARS. for the dry cleaning! When I freaked out and asked them why so much, the gal there said "IT'S A PRADA JACKET!!!"........I never used that place ever again. This pharmacy is one of the worst. Every time I go in here I'm reminded how awful they are. I have used them because they are close to where I live. But I am overcharged for nearly every prescription I get. I use another pharmacy in the City regularly because they are so much better to deal with, but if I need something filled quickly I will use this one. And when I go to compare what I paid here to what I might have paid elsewhere, I find I was overcharged. And somehow the insurances that are accepted elsewhere are not here. If you have any other options, use another pharmacy. read more

I absolutely love this pharmacy and cannot praise them highly enough. The staff here go above and beyond for their clientele on both a personal and medical levels. I have watched, on multiple occasions, them speak gently and calmly to older people about delivery and/or paying later. I have personally experienced the outstanding nature of the staff, including when an employee waited for me *in the rain* outside of the pharmacy to give me a prescription when, due to a train delay, I emailed the pharmacy as I knew I would be arriving between closing time and 5 minutes afterwards. Life is about change. So....the phone calls have stopped. They do not call anymore to say that a prescription is filled. Instead they text you. They give you one option to type REFILL if you want a refill (and this only if a refill is offered for that medication). There is no option to let them know when you can pick up the prescription. After 10 days they automatically cancel it. I don't care for this system. I like the old way, but things change and sometimes one has to accept the change in order to flow. I find it a bit inconvenient, but I will adjust. They are very good about filling prescriptions in a timely manner, but I find their newer staff less friendly. read more

I want to first start off by saying that the entire staff at Apthorp pharmacy are wonderful, efficient, and friendly, but this review is specifically for the pharmacist, Jordan. My husband and I were going through some fertility treatments that were beyond stressful and Jordan was a source of calm and joy and took so much stress away from the entire process. He never ever made me feel rushed, he was patient and so helpful, and literally went above and beyond for us - it was like talking to a friend. Obviously we have all experienced a very difficult time over the last year and a half, but our healthcare workers are honestly angels that are facing the front lines every day, and continue to show love, care, and support for all of us. Jordan is one of those angels who took away so much stress and worry that a simple review doesn't do justice for him. Honestly it doesn't matter where you get your scrips if you have insurance. I chose Apthorp because it was close. They did a good job on my orders, except it sometimes takes a long, long time (compared to CVS) to get something filled, especially when they are busy. My doc called in something, and 3 hours later it still wasn't ready. What the hell...put...pills...in...the...bottle. Done. On the bright side, when you have to wait there like a tool, you can browse all the imported, high end soaps, fragrances and bath salts and pretend you are a fancy English aristocrat from 1829. That part is really sensational. I should also point out that they offer a very reliable delivery service which is quite handy if you don't need your stuff right away. And they also offered me access to a discount plan which I had no idea existed prior to using them. Customer service was pretty solid in fact. All in all, a good experience. read more

My grandparents have been Apthorp customers for decades. They are now in their 90s and were fortunate to get both doses of the COVID vaccine at Apthorp. The pharmacy staff could not have been more warm and accommodating when providing the vaccine. My grandparents have limited mobility, and when we went for their second shot, there was tons of snow and ice making it difficult for them to get out of the car and get into the store. The pharmacist saved the day and came out to the car to administer the shots to my grandparents! It was a godsend for which we are eternally grateful. This pharmacy is fantastic. I am lucky to live near enough for me to get there or have delivery. The pharmacist is SMART and kind and everyone there is a pleasure to come in contact with. It's easy as can be to get a flu shot there, with actually a pharmacist that gives a "painless" injection. The other items they stock are terrific and well selected. The customer service goes beyond. They order things for you, they get in touch with docs for refills successfully. They are the reason that people should support small, independent businesses, as opposed to chain stores that hardly care as much. read more

After driving into NYC from CT for an appointment, I called this pharmacy from my doctor's office to check if they had a compound medication in stock. After being told "yes" they could fill my prescription, I stopped in and delivered the handwritten script. I was told the medication would take 30 minutes to prepare so I waited outside in my vehicle for a call back. After 45 minutes and no call, I called the pharmacy for an update and was told the meds would take an additional hour and a half to fill. What a joke! I had to leave the city well before that time so I was unable to obtain my medication - the service, transparency and communication by the staff was extremely disorganized and underwhelming to say the least. I like supporting small businesses, but the service I receive from my local Duane Reade is far better than my experiences here. Even if you call in advance to have prescription ready, they will have you waiting for 30 minutes. You have to ask for someone to help you, even if you're standing by the register.
