I have been a loyal customer here for over 10 years, but I've officially switched pharmacies. I am highly sensitive to switching generic manufacturers and have had bad reactions in the past, which is clearly noted on my account. Despite a confirmation call the day before confirming my specific manufacturer, they delivered the exact same brand I had already sent back the month prior for the same error. When I called to resolve this repeated mistake, the pharmacist was extremely nasty, telling me he was "not dealing with this anymore to make 5 cents." For someone managing chronic health issues (CML), having a pharmacy that acts as a partner in care is vital. Being treated with such blatant disrespect after a decade is unacceptable. It is a shame, as I previously had a great experience with Rebecca, who was always helpful and managed my care perfectly. However, this other pharmacist has lost my business for good. read more

I always loved this pharmacy and have been shopping there for 50 years, since we moved across the street. Their pharmacists were always outstanding; however, the most recent one can very unpleasant with a short temper. Some things were said to me that I did not appreciate. This is an amazing drugstore. Looks small on the outside but I've never missed any over-the-counter items or prescription drugs in the last several years since I made this store MY drugstore. I reviewed this place poorly after a bad experience and the head pharmacist contacted me and made it right. I changed my review because she did that. Now apparently she is out of town and I am once again dealing with a rude and incompetent pharmacist- a different one than the first time. I have to go with my original review- stay FAR away from this place. They are incompetent. Service in the pharmacy is horrible. I think the head pharmacist as well as her daughter are very good but if they are not available, you will be dealing with a nightmare. In my first dealings with them, I had all sorts of issues getting a vaccine because one of the pharmacist gave me misinformation and told me I could come in, but once I got there the pharmacist there refused to give it to me. I was understandably annoyed. The head pharmacist was nice enough to reach out to me and to work with my doctor to get that taken care of. But today I once again had an issue with a different vaccine. Once again, I was given misinformation on the phone that I could walk in and get this vaccine - a basic MMR vaccine- and then when I got there, the pharmacist flat out refused to do it. Supposedly that he said it's because New York won't allow him to? New York is bureaucratic and that may be true, but it doesn't make a lot of sense since CDC guidelines do dictate that I should be getting the vaccine since I am no longer immune to at least one of the diseases on there. In fact they say that frequent travelers like myself should be getting two shots. I should know given that I'm an epidemiologist. He then said that he cannot give the vaccine to people who are documented to already have it, to which I said I actually don't have any documentation since I would've been an infant. I am just presuming I had it, but regardless, both CDC and my doctor said that I need to do it again. I asked for the head pharmacist and he said she was out of town. I did end up getting a second vaccine that I was scheduled for, the one that head pharmacist had to work to get me in the first place. The head pharmacist said the first incompetent pharmacist was just young. But this pharmacist was old and I can say that he had no bedside manner whatsoever. Honestly, this place has tested my patience enough at this point There are far too many good pharmacies in the city to waste my time with this one ever again. I just had the misfortune of contacting this one first on the other vaccine. I would recommend people go elsewhere. read more

Since being forced to go to Duane Reade I really appreciate this place. This pharmacy answers their phone, has very short lines, and is very patient with customers. None of this is true with Duane Reade on 86th street. Its impossible to get through to them, they always have long lines and in general its a mess. This place is the best. read more

It's really am old fashioned type of pharmacy in an era that dominated by CVS and Duane Reade. Just an old style neighborhood pharmacy. I've shopped here a few times not for pharmaceuticals but for gifts and such. Nice selection of soaps and lotions, along with other items for a gift or occasion. They also set up a nice window display with some sort of automation. Always good to support a small business in the neighborhood. read more

Drug Mart has the mobiles in the front window that caught my attention. It's really an old school pharmacy. I love the colorful decor and great selection of scents and soaps. The greeting cards are one of a kind. There's a lot of gift ideas in this store. In the rear there's vitamins and supplements. They have a medical area to do testing and vaccines. I'm definitely going to have to shop here more for cards and gifts when I need them. I like the out of the ordinary merchandise they carry. It's a bright cheerful environment for shopping! read more

I don't permanently live in the UES and was living in the area for a month. I had to find some OTC for acid reflux. I was on my way to CVS but didn't expect to see a pharmacy that's NOT from a big chain, so thought I'd give it a try. I asked the pharmacist on the counter which OTC's were appropriate and he helped me. I remember the super friendly service and how patient he was. I didn't have prescriptions sent here, but I would have loved to send them to Drug Mart and support this local, neighborhood pharmacy. It's not super comprehensive but has most of the common OTCs you would expect. It's too bad I'm in another neighborhood now. read more

Drug Mart has been on the SW corner of York Ave. and E. 86th St. for more than 50 year, and it remains the quintessential "neighborhood pharmacy." The pharmacists are sharp and knowledgeable. The staff is helpful, polite, and always accommodating. If you're looking for potato chips or soda, shop somewhere else. If you're looking for professional pharmacy services as well as a wide selection of sophisticated cosmetics and other personal healthcare products, Drug Mart is for you. They are kind and always go out of their way to get my medications to me correctly and in a timely way, and if I have a reason to call, the phone is always answered (unlike CVS). Bad Service, High Prices. Like others, I wanted to shop local. Customer service is so bad here, however, that I will NEVER return. Store was empty, but I was made to wait at the counter w my 1 item for over 5 min... just cause. When the lady finally did "help" me, she never looked at me, spoke w contempt, and behaved as if she had been put out by the work. Plus, the item (Dr. Bronner's liquid hand soap) was priced about $3-4 more than the Price Wise down the street. This place needs some help. read more

I needed a prescription filled that Rite Aid said would take four hours, and Duane Reade said would take one--Drug Mart took fifteen minutes. They are fast, polite, and know their customers. Great pharmacy that actually seems to care - and they've got good prices on some real quality products in their relatively small store. Certainly not going to find all the randomness of a Duane Reade there, but it's a pharmacy, not a Wal*Mart! Very friendly and quick service, and their delivery is always really snappy too. They actually take the time to call doctors and insurance companies to resolve any issues FOR you, as opposed to the "big guys" who will wait until you show up hours later to say that they can't fill your prescription!! read more

I went to this local drug store since I would rather support local business. I specifically asked for the label drug NOT GENERIC and guess what I was given. I asked when picking up was it the label and said yes!! The pharmacist is also the owner. He said nothing he could do. Now can't get another prescription from the doctor as pain medication. I do not recommend then at all. The only reason I am putting half a star is because it won't let you post without it. read more

It's been in my neighborhood for years, but I never bothered to go in. Small, attractive displays of some unique products; good homeopathic section. I've had the opposite experience from the fellow who wrote, "They actually take the time to call doctors and insurance companies to resolve any issues FOR you." I have to keep going back there and pleading with the pharmacist and helpers when we are running out of medications we actually cannot live without, and if told to come back the next day, the next day it's as though it never happened, and I have to start all over again. Then they tell US that We are supposed to call the doctors and insurance companies, when it's actually their job to do that, and they are collecting thousands of dollars for our medicines but don't feel like bothering to keep our prescriptions and insurance claims running smoothly. And yes, the young female employees totally ignore me or wear only slightly disguised sneers on their faces. We are regular customers and unfailingly polite, so no point blaming the victims here. I have yet to yell at anyone or burst into tears, but I've come close to that more than once. read more

I thought they were always great since Sylvia and the guy are nice and competent but they NEVER answer the phone and I had an emergency. i needed someone to pick up the meds for me since I was out of the city and sent my doorman for refills. They didn't look it up and sent another drug where I had a minor prescription waiting but my crucial breast cancer drug which was clear to be refilled was not. i am going to look for another pharmacy. Not being able to call them is serious...period. in fact i learned Duane Reade across the street is great; only problem is they can't mail meds out of town. read more

They know me and each of my family members by name, they almost always have the items we need in stock and if not they can get it to me same day or next day the latest. Staff is amazing! read more
