Very well start stocked pharmacy! They have exceptional customer service, really. It is more traditional like an old-fashioned pharmacy my grandfather talked about. Their knowledgable pharmacist will offer advice, is always sure to *clearly* explain the dosing instructions for nee rx as well as forewarn you of any medication side effects to look out for. Additionally, this pharmacy carries a lot of homeopathic and European products - for example Biafine is a wonderful French burn cream that I could not recommend more - it works for everything from blistering sun burns to radiation burns and everything in between. If there is a product you want but they don't have in stock, just ask! they will order it for ya! For example this Migra stick essential oil stick I use for my migraines I had my parents bring back from France for me, they ordered from a Europe pharmacy. I was quotes the price up front which I found reasonable and asked what quantity I wanted. I will say it again, this is a really really really great pharmacy. Where do I begin? Since they're right in my neighbourhood, I went to Thompson Chemists for my prescriptions for several years. While I always needed to wait beyond the time they promised the scripts to be ready, say a half hour or so waiting, or going home and returning to the pharmacy, it wasn't such a big deal, more of an inconvenience. Then they got sloppy with my scripts. Always "owing" me 20 or more pills than originally prescribed. The same began happening with the pain patches for a chronic condition from which I suffer. Without having the patches available when needed, I was in danger of withdrawal symptoms to occur. The hour's wait for my script(s) would turn into "tomorrow a.m." then "later today, after 3pm" then again, "tomorrow". It was extremely stressing not being able to trust Thompson Chemists to provide my scripts in a timely manner. On one of my last interactions with their staff, I phoned and spoke with Jolie and explained how frustrating it was to continually follow up to learn exactly when the prescription would be ready. She had the nerve to say we're closing soon and HUNG UP ON ME!!! Thankfully, my specialist recommended another pharmacy Elm Health, who've been excellent. My husband still goes to Thompson for his prescription needs. He's recently become as frustrated as I'd been with their continual pushing back the date when his scripts will be ready. Often, they "owe" him meds, often they don't even tell him they "owe" him, and he needs to meticulously count each capsule. Thankfully, he's done with giving them second chance after second chance! Ten strikes, you're OUT! If you're concerned about managing your scripts to maintain your health needs, don't patronise this place. Only at these family-owned pharmacies such as TC would the pharmacist notice an RX wasn't correct for your condition and your doctor was the one who made a mistake. When I write a review it is usually of a place I know and always focused on one aspect of the business. Sometimes the product, sometimes a person. This review is about one of the owners, Jolie Alony. Jolie Alony is a very interesting woman. Very soft spoken to the point where I often have to ask her to repeat herself. However when Jolie wants to be heard, she can be heard in 5 different languages and has the ability to adapt to others that are similar. When you can speak 5 languages, similar is wide in range. Because of her knack for language there are very few who cannot communicate in the store and feel comfortable doing so. She also has learned to how to talk in a structured and timed manner because she can now host a radio show. I know this because she has hosted mine. Jolie is not just a purchaser of the various products sold, she is more of a curator. Most of the hair and skin care products sold at Thompson Chemist are not what we call "Store Bought", they are carefully chosen from a wide variety of international companies. While I may not be familiar with all that is there, everyone that I have shopped for has been happy with what they received. Jolie also stands up for her customers. She gets involved with their doctors, family communication when needed and deals with their health insurance companies that quite often have nothing to do with her business. In other words she save people's a..es. I know this because she saved mine when I needed help. Then there is The Medicine Show. This is not magic show featuring pills, this is because a band comes into the store twice a month and plays for 2 hours at a time because they simply like Jolie and Gary Alony. It is that simple. Finally, Jolie is not just an owner, she is the Den Mother to her staff and customers. Whether it is by listening to them at the needed times or cooking meals and bringing them to work for her staff to enjoy, Jolie takes care of her people. While this may seem strange, consider that the pharmacy is a French woman's go-to place for everyday remedies and beauty solutions. So I felt glamorous and very Parisian when I stopped by on my last visit to NYC. Like everything else in NYC, Thompson Alchemists is rather limited in terms of space, but the proprietor managed to stock the tiny store with as much goods as it could hold. Thompson Alchemists carries all kinds of elixirs, creams, lotions, cosmetics, beauty tools made by companies that are hard to find in the U.S. They also have some Asian beauty products, such as foam hair curlers in fun shapes. In addition to being a resource for international makeup brands, Thompson Alchemists also features brand-new lines, and as I learned, invites the developers of different products to introduce their products inside the shop. I happened to come when a woman was launching her new skincare line, Premae. Not only did I get to meet the founder, I also received an unexpected hand massage. A nice, though slightly pushy, gentleman, the onsite Premae sales rep, offered to massage a product or two into my hand so I could see its miracle effects. While it caught me by surprise and was a bit awkward, I ended up enjoying my mini massage and getting to try the British skincare line. I got myself a hydrating cream for combination skin for thirty something bucks, which wasn't bad at all. Although Thompson Alchemists is, as I mentioned earlier, rather small, it's a pretty comprehensive supplier of mid-range to luxury beauty products from all over the world. The range and customer service, as well as the family feel, made this a much more pleasant shopping experience than Ulta or Sephora. Until I can return to the actual shop, I'll have to content myself with shopping from their website. However, those who are living in or visiting NYC should definitely stop by. read more

The pharmacist accused me of trying to sell my medication. On Nov. 16 around 11 am, I entered the establishment and inquired about my medicine. The price was abnormal and I questioned why my insurance did not cover it. The pharmacist then told me that since it was two weeks I would need another script in order for the medication to be covered by my insurance. He then deleted the script, and in the process saw that my doctor accidentally sent in the prescription using his California address (he is licensed in both CA and NY). He then implied I was selling my medication, that he saw "lots of prescriptions like mine" from students, and I did not really see my therapist since we communicated over Zoom. I have never sold my medication and as a graduate student, I need it refilled when I am out to actually study. Moreover, I just moved to New York for graduate school from California (hence the mix up) When I articulated such, he told me that he was a small business and he would ask the medical board if this would be allowed. I said I would have my doctor send another script with his new york address and come back to pick it up. The pharmacist said "well, we'll see" if it gets filled. I returned at 2:50 p.m. (three hours later) and he told me he gave my medication to someone else that needed it and did not have more. He told me I could wait until the end of the month or go to another pharmacy (which would be $140 out of pocket). I asked why he hadn't called me or kept it since I told him I would be returning the same day and he just shrugged. Given the short amount of time and the fact that my medication was "supposedly" the last in stock, I felt that he was lying and trying to find an excuse to not fill my prescription. This was an extremely frustrating as the medication plays a significant role in my mental health and my studies - every month I have to jump through a multitude of hoops just to find a pharmacy that my insurance will cover. But because I was a student he made an outrageous assumption, forcing me to jump through all the hoops once again, pay $140 out of pocket, all while I am studying 24/7. If you are a student, do NOT go to this pharmacy, or anyone who is younger. read more

Everything I have used from here from the cbd oils and mama j's balms, are all the bomb! They have gotten me through a tough time. I buy all of my favorite French skin care products here, which are hard to find in the U.S. I have been ordering online during the pandemic, and my orders have included tons of samples. The past order came with a handwritten note. The store was out of a full-size Kloraine dry shampoo, so they sent me 3 trial sizes at no extra cost. Going into Thompson Chemists is always a nightmare. The employees are nice and helpful, but if Gary is there, you will be insulted and treated with such disrespect. My family has been supporting this business for over twenty years, but enough is enough. I have always played by their ridiculous "2 day notice" rule, and yet, they almost always forget to order my medication. This is a big problem which has resulted in negatively impacting my health. They should frankly be ashamed of themselves. They do not have the temperament nor the organization to run a successful business and it is quite obvious with the service provided. They never call back about your medication, and when I spoke to Gary about this recurring issue, he yelled at me on the phone saying, "I don't have to time to deal with people like you." My review is not about Thompson Chemists necessarily, as I have been going there since 2005 and typically find it to be an amazing place with personalized service and people who are truly nice and want to take care of you. My review is more so about the Pharmacist, Gary. On three separate occasions when dealing with Gary directly he has been nothing but rude, condescending, and downright mean. The first two times this happened I let it go and chalked it up to a bad day, dealing with frustrating customers, etc. But by the third time I have to say I have had it. Get it together Gary! Stop treating your customers like crap! I would like to be able to tell Thompson Chemists that Gary has just cost them my business, but they are so wonderful otherwise that I will just try to avoid Gary for now and recommend that others do the same. read more
