I had a totally positive experience here this week. I take it from other reviews that they're doing Apple business, but my issue was getting data off a hard drive from my Windows laptop that had just failed. Tech I spoke to (first off, nice to talk to an actual tech instead of a "front office" type) understood my issues, and clearly explained possible outcomes & charges. He promised results in a couple of days, and produced them in under 24 hours, for what I think I know are normal, regular rates (in my case, $80 for HD scan and cleanup and data extraction, $20 if they couldn't extract, but they could in this case). Life savers. My 2011 MacBook Pro had a massive graphics failure, the screen was nothing but dancing neon lines. I had been working over break but hadn't done a backup in a couple months and would have lost everything except for these guys. Took my computer in at noon today and was helped by Eduardo. For $50 extra, he said he could work on rescuing the data within 24 hours. At 3:30 this afternoon he called and said it would be ready by 4:15. He got it done with a 4 hour turn around. Checked my data at home this evening and it's all saved. Thanks - you really helped me out. Computerland was great! I had to change my iPhone 6 battery and had an appointment close by at another phone repair shop (it was the only one that showed up as available at the time). When I got there, they said they didn't have iPhone 6 batteries and would have to send it in. Luckily, I found Computerland nearby and they were able to do it within a few hours and I was able to pick it up right after class. Great service and very quick turnaround! I needed to have my optical drive replaced on my MacBook Pro. I originally was planning on going to an apple repair place around the corner which has advertised hours of 10a-6p. I waited a half hour and they didn't open. Been coming to Computerland for the last 7+ years, and trust no one else to touch my computer! Recently, my MacBook refused to boot up and was completely unusable. In three days time, I was told that my motherboard was no longer salvageable. Instead of charging me an expensive repair cost, my data was transferred to a refurbished MacBook (in much better condition than my own) and I was charged a FRACTION of the cost of a new computer. Awesome people! They are certified for Toshiba warranty as well. I'm still in warranty and they managed to get me a free replacement battery and were quick about it! It took about a week because they had to wait for a part but they're very friendly and efficient and get the job done! I highly recommend this place. I had a recall on my MacBook Pro 2017 as well as a defective thunderbolt USB port and took it into Computerland of Berkeley. Although I did not have a warranty, the man who checked me in, Gus, kindly offered to check the USB port for free (and if it was too expensive to fix, he would call me, if not he would fix it without a problem). The turn around was 1 day, which for me was important being a graduate student who survives off their laptop. Gus was extremely nice and you can tell he cared for my situation. I was in a bad accident and came into Computer land with a broken screen as well as a concussion. I was helped out by Gus, who immediately noticed the scarring on my face and asked if I was alright. He genuinely cared about my health and safety, recommended scar cream, and understood my urgency as my accident already put me behind in college, something that is usually hard to recover from. He gave me a quote and explained to me what exactly needed fixing on my laptop. I also had called another tech place to compare to Computerland, and they had quoted the cost of fixing my MacBook to be well over $1000, while Gus fixed it for a fraction of the price. Within a day my laptop was fixed and working again. I cannot recommend this place enough. The staff are honest, kind, and compassionate, and they know how to do their job extremely well. Got my phone replaced in 24 hours! Great service and was extremely happy with the quick turnover.

My 5 year old HP computer had a portable drive that I dropped while moving. The noise it made told me it was trouble. Computerland did a disassembly and diagnosis a confirmed it needed factory level help. They packaged up the drive and only charged me $20. for their efforts. Most places have minimums of 60 to 90 dollars. I was most impressed with all of the attention and service they provided for next to nothing. I've recommended them to a friend. read more

This review is based only on service I received when trying to replace my recalled (frayed) power adapter under warranty. I called Apple and learned that my frayed power adapter was eligible for free replacement, after a visual inspection by Apple or their authorized agent could confirm that the adapter was fraying due to the product defect and not misuse. I was in a bit of a bind: I knew that I shouldn't waste my money replacing a defective adapter I could have replaced for free, but I have a very busy schedule and no Genius Bar in my area could take me until the following week. If I shipped the cord to Apple I'd have to wait days for shipping. The customer service people I called via Apple's 800 line said that I could try to see if the guys at Computerland would take mercy on me, visually inspect, give me a free power adapter, and send mine back to Apple for me. Computerland did the inspection, but they weren't willing to give me a free cord until after they sent mine to the company. The cord has frayed due to the defect, but I twisted the cord to try to salvage the connection until I could get it replaced, and Computerland was concerned that Apple might not reimburse because I'd done that. I gave them the cord to send over, and I begged them to try to help me get a replacement. They advocated for me and convinced Apple to authorize a free cord for me. I appreciated that they tried to help me out, and they saved me the cost of buying a replacement cord. read more

I called late in the day and asked if they repaired iPhone screens while I waited. The gentleman on the phone said yes. I asked when would be a good time to come and he said he had time now. So I immediately drove there and walked right in and handed him my iPhone. He took it apart and said my screen was okay, but the protective cover was cracked. So he replaced it within minutes and cleaned up my phone. I left there a happy camper only paying a very small price. After spilling liquid on my Macbook Air, I wanted to bring my computer in immediately. All Apple Genius Bars in the Bay Area didn't have availability for four days, which was frustrating because the longer you wait to get your computer fixed from liquid damage, the higher likelihood your computer will suffer additional damage from corrosion. I was able to take my computer in to Computerland as soon as they opened after the weekend. Gus and the team kept me in the loop throughout the process and were very transparent about the cost. Fast. Professional. Friendly. So happy to have found a service center that fits all of those descriptions! Inexplicably, my 2015 Macbook Pro keyboard & trackpad stopped working over the course of a month. I called Apple and they recommended I go here because the wait time would be shorter than the two local Apple stores, which did not have available appointments for another week. They were right. I dropped my laptop off on a Saturday (no appointment needed) and it was ready for pick up the following Friday. They explained it would have been sooner, but they always have to order the parts when it's hardware, so the wait time on the order is why it took a week. The staff and service at Computerland are simply AWESOME. I have gone to them on two different occasions, and Nerko (the manager) has helped me both times. The service is of high-quality, and the repair rate is VERY fast. A super big plus is that they are also certified by Apple, so I can outsource all my apple care needs to them instead of having to travel all the way to the Mac Store in San Francisco or Emeryville! A year ago I went in because I spilled chocolate milk on my brand new MacBook Air. I was basically flipping out because though I had applecare, Apple told me that they would not be able to do anything for me without charging me for a brand new keyboard (great... I know). I scrambled to SEVERAL different mac repair stores in Berkeley where they told me either a) It would cost $100+ and there is no guarantee that my laptop would be all fixed or b) Because I had the new air, they had no experience fixing these laptops and can't guarantee anything. THANKFULLY, I stumbled upon Computerland. I walked in super frazzled and Nerko definitely calmed me down. He explained what needed to be done with the keyboard, and that he would be able to clean everything for me by removing each separate key. He also explained that it won't be covered by Applecare but he was willing to give me a nice discount. He also totally had experience with the air so I was also very comfortable leaving my laptop with him! Long story short, they fixed my computer and got it back to me within a very short period of time - just a few days, which is great since grad school requires me to use my computer literally everyday! Also, the laptop worked perfectly and all the keys were back to normal. Recently, one of the keys on my keyboard kind of fell off (due to some external damage). Because I had such a great experience the first time, I went back to Computerland. Nerko was again super friendly, and offered to take care of my keyboard for me by ordering me a new one through applecare. They called me as soon as the keyboard came in, and had a great turnaround time too (just one day!). Overall, these guys are awesome - quick service, friendly and really know what they are dong. When I bought my Macbook Air, I was concerned about the battery, which needed to be replaced in store. I told that the battery could be changed out in two hours max, not to worry. Fast forward four years (the battery outlived expectations), and one needs a genius appointment to confirm battery state, took a week to get the battery in AND asked me to give up the computer for a week to 10 days for this 30-minute procedure at the Apple Store. Apple customer support (corporate) sent me to Computerland - which was the best thing they did. They called when the battery in. I dropped my computer in that day, did some shopping in the area and they called back in an hour and I picked it up. The Computerland experience is what I was promised by Apple. NOT! Computerland delivers premium customer service. Price - totally worth the service and not hassling and being harangued by Apple Store dweebs with attitude. I want to update my review and acknowledge excellent customer service on behalf of Computerland. They proactively reached out to try and address my concerns, and I'm hoping we can get the issue resolved. To further update, the iPad was dropped and the charging port was damaged. Computerland tried their best to fix it, but the damage was not repairable. The next best option was to send it in to Apple for a replacement (with a fee), and Computerland was able to go ahead and do this for us.
