Had to bring my MacBook Pro 2017 after it was identified to have taken down my entire work network as a result of having caught a virus. I could see that a process that I could not terminate would run, eating up 98% of the CPU. I then bought it into Computerland to help identify the virus. They gave me the quote which was over $100, which seemed like more than I wanted to spend. I decided to still go with them because they are an Apple Premium Authorized service center, and this was my main work laptop so needed someone I could trust! They not only fixed the 20+ viruses that were maliciously installed but they went ahead and replaced my keyboard that had started to malfunction - certain keys stopped responding. They ordered the new keyboard, installed it all for free as it was a known defect, amazing as the missing keys were really hindering my typing performance. Great trusted guys! Not the cheapest but they know their Macs inside and out! read more

I had a really great experience with Comptuerland of Berkeley! I had a battery issue with my 2017 macbook pro, and they were able to easily assess the situation, order the part, and get it fixed in no time. I paid the extra $50 to be able to keep my laptop with me while they ordered the part, and then it took maybe just 3 hours between when I dropped it off to get repaired and when I picked it up. They even let me know of another potential issue, and recommended I come back in a few weeks to get it fixed so that apple care can continue to cover my costs. Totally not necessary, they were just looking out for their customer. I BET the apple store would never do that. I had originally gone to the apple store and they said the battery replacement would take 14+ days, and they wanted to hold on to the laptop the whole time!!! Very very glad I gave business to this local shop, because they did a fantastic job. Everyone there was very friendly as well, and helpful at every step in the process. They are very covid safe, you stay outside and talk to the technicians by an open door. They all wear masks and clean the pens after each user. read more

About a month ago I took my iphone to computerland/Berkeley, suspecting that it needed a battery, and they were able to replace the battery that day. It's been working like a charm. Because of that good experience I took my Imac there also. It died on me (it was 12 years old) but had all my valuable books and content on it. I was definitely worried about losing all my software and content. They were able to find me a new power source and got my Imac back to an almost new computer. I would have liked the service to be quicker, but sometimes good things just take time. I'm a happy camper now that I've got my Imac back and have found a good place to take my Apple products locally. Highly recommended! read more

Had to write a great review for Computerland of Berkeley! Their customer service was excellent, repair was timely, and they went above & beyond my expectations. I came in with a small crack in my screen and ultimately had to get a replacement. I was not thrilled about the repair price as it was 5 months outside of warranty and not covered, but was pleasantly surprised when they fixed my battery, keyboard, speaker, and trackpad. I recently visited Computerland again and was still impressed by the speed and flexibility of service. I accidentally updated my computer without there being enough space. The Apple Genius Bar told me that there was no way to save/recover any data, but Computerland updated my computer, kept all my data, and copied/saved said data to a hard drive so I'd never have to worry about losing all my data again. They are a million times better than Apple store--although I have to credit Apple for recommending them during this quarantine, and thank God they did! The battery of my Macbook Pro was swelling, in danger in exploding, and needing to be replaced asap. Unfortunately, all the Apple Stores are closed right now and shipping it back to Apple would have taken several weeks. Since all my work depends on my laptop (now more than ever!) I needed a repair fast... and Computerland was there for me! Tony and his team are all super smart, professional, meticulous and efficient. I recently got two computers fixed at Computerland of Berkeley. One computer was a computer whose monitor was not working (but not cracked) but the computer was able to function with an external monitor. The second computer was one that had undergone rain damage. Pros: - The staff at Computerland was easily accessible, which I greatly appreciated. Whenever I called, someone always picked up and if you walked in the store there would be an employee to assist you. - Reliable. I knew exactly what to expect with respect to price and turn around time and they delivered on those metrics. - They fixed my computer whose monitor wasn't working! Turns out an internal plug had become disconnected so they reattached it and put tape so it wouldn't become disconnected. ($50 for the labor). I am super grateful for this :) Cons: - Since I was in a time crunch, I expedited diagnosis for one of my laptops for an additional $50 in addition to the initial diagnosis fee ($40). Turns out the motherboard was fried which they could tell because the computer didn't even make any sort of whirring noise when the power was started. I wish they had told me they could tell the computer was dead just by pressing the power button before I paid $90 for them to tell me it was dead. While I understand these are the standard fees they assess and I voluntarily paid $50 extra to get the diagnosis expedited, but that part definitely did not feel like a good bargain. They did clean the inside to see if that would salvage the computer which was unsuccessful but which I appreciated. If I had a computer problem, I would still probably go back again because they seem very knowledgeable and for the pros I listed above. read more

Pros: My Macbook Pro screen was fixed after a bad crack, and the price was fairly lower than the surrounding computer stores. Cons: This is going to be long... I go into the store and give them my computer. I ask how long it should take until I get it back, and they say 3-5 days. I say ok good, I just want to get it back as fast as I can. A week later, I call and ask if my laptop is ready. They say they have the part, but need my approval to fix it. I ask, "Ok so was I supposed to call you guys to give approval or was I supposed to get a call or what??" "You should have gotten a call or a voicemail." Ok, well I didn't ever get a call, and I've been waiting for a week!! So of course I give my approval because I am a college student who just needs her laptop back as fast as possible. The next day I call and ask the status of my laptop. The part supposedly isn't in. This is news to me!!! I angrily talk to the worker and tell them how I've been waiting for a week when it was supposed to be 3-5 days. They say the part will be in tomorrow and it will be ready then. I call the next day. The part is not in. This point I am too mad to even say anything so I just hang up the phone. Day 10, I finally receive a voicemail after class that my laptop is ready. Hard to give a good review when you have to wait for something for 10 days, when it was promised to be ready in 3-5. read more

They fixed my son's computer, well, they were able to pull out a piece of a charger that broke off and stayed in the port in a matter of a couple of hours. Not only that, they let me borrow their own charger they use for trouble shooting until I got a new one in the mail. I was impressed. read more

Just had the best computer repair experience ever! My computer wouldn't boot up and I was panicked. They fixed the problems quickly, efficiently, and at a reasonable cost since I was beyond warranty. I had lots of questions and Gus and Tony answered them all with clarity, patience, and integrity. In addition, they discovered that Apple had made a recall on my keyboard, battery, and related sensors that I was never informed about, so they were able to replace those parts at no cost to me. I brought my Acer laptop in to get a cracked screen repaired. Two weeks passed, and I hadn't heard anything from the shop. I called and found out they had ordered the wrong replacement screen and they had to order the correct screen. A week later I called again for an update, and I was told that they installed the new screen but that the computer now wasn't turning on. This had not been an issue prior to bringing the laptop in for repair. I requested that they update me as soon as they figured out what the new issue was. A couple days went by and I called again, they had no update but promised someone would call with the status. I called once more a couple days later and again was only met with the promise that someone would call with an update. Finally (over a month after initially brought the laptop in) I called and they told me the motherboard was broken and they could not repair. TL;DR: Shop ordered wrong part, found new issue, wouldn't proactively communicate, and my laptop is not usable. read more

I cracked my screen on my MacBook Air and I DON'T have AppleCare so I searched around for a repair company that could get my computer back running without costing an arm and a leg. I did a little search on Yelp and found Computerland. I'm so happy I did. They were able to replace the screen and they even added on a few extras for me.Also, the repair was a few days faster then what was originally estimated. Computerland is my go-to pace for Mac repairs. I'm usually there in a panicked state because of hard drive, storage, or app problems. Staff is responsive, knowledgeable, finds solutions, and researches upgrades/recalls offered from Apple. I left there recently with a new battery and keyboard, fixed backup system, as well as a larger hard drive. They work quickly and keep me posted on the time needed for the repair. I leave there calmer and am always pleased when I collect my fixed computer. read more

I spilled hot chocolate on my 3 month old MacBook Air and the techs at Computerland were helpful, reassuring, and quick with the repairs. They helped me back up my data, replaced the damaged parts, and cleaned the remainder of the logic board that was not damaged. I got the computer back in 3 days and the cost was under $400. The Apple store quoted me nearly $800 and said they would need to replace the entire logic board, which was unnecessary and wasteful. I am extremely dissatisfied with the service I received from Computerland on two separate occasions, both involving Apple products. In both instances, the devices I took to Computerland for repair were functioning when I brought them in, and were no longer functioning or usable when Computerland returned them to me. iPhone Battery Replacement: On May 24, 2018, I brought in my iPhone 7 for a battery replacement, after making an appt through Apple's support website. My phone was fully functional when I brought it in. I was told the cost to replace my battery was $29 plus tax ($31.68) and my phone would be ready for pickup by 3:00 pm (appt at 10:00 am). Computerland did not meet this 3:00 deadline and when I arrived to pick up my phone, it was no longer working--the home button was broken, rendering the phone completely unusable. Computerland told me they would get me a "new" phone but it would not be available until the next day at the earliest. I was given a loaner phone to use over the weekend, as I was headed out of town (and almost missed my flight because I was trying to deal with Computerland's incompetence). When I arrived to pick up my "new" phone after returning from my trip, the Computerland technician insisted that I still owed $31.68. I told the technician that I did not think I should be charged anything, as they did not perform the service they promised (battery replacement) and instead BROKE MY PHONE. I also noted that the replacement phone (which did not look "new"--there was no box) had been supplied by Apple at no charge to them. The technician insisted that I pay $31.68 and refused to give me the replacement phone unless I agreed to pay that amount. I refused this extortion and left Computerland with my original and now broken phone. I called Apple Support and told them what happened--and the Apple Store in Berkeley ended up giving me a replacement phone FREE OF CHARGE. While the end result was satisfactory, it was Apple (not Computerland) who resolved the issue caused by Computerland's incompetence, and I lost several hours of time (and several days of waiting for a new appointment at Apple Store) in the process. It is unbelievable that Computerland wanted to charge me money for BREAKING MY PHONE. MacBook Air Repair: In the fall of 2017, I brought in my MacBook Air to be inspected/repaired for water damage. When I brought the computer into Computerland, it would work but only if it was plugged in. I previously had it inspected at the Apple Genius Bar, and was told that the magsafe board probably needed to be replaced but they suggested that I take it to Computerland to get the work done at a lower price. When I picked up my computer from Computerland, it was no longer working at all, even if plugged in, and was told the amount to fix it would exceed the value of the computer. So, once again, I left Computerland with a non-functioning device that was previously working (albeit only when plugged in) when I brought it in. Based on these two separate experiences, I will NEVER bring anything to Computerland for repair and will never recommend them to anyone. In addition to breaking my devices on two separate occasions, Computerland's employees were unprofessional in their interactions with me and outright rude in the instance involving my iPhone battery replacement. In both instances, they refused to accept responsibility for their actions and basically shrugged when they returned broken devices to me that had been working just a few hours earlier. I had a completely different (pleasant) experience in all of my interactions with Apple employees at the Apple Genius Bar. I have submitted a complaint to Apple directly as I believe they should review Computerland's status as an "authorized" support provider. I encourage anyone who has had similar experiences with Computerland to be sure to complete the surveys they receive from Apple asking about the quality of service (or lack thereof). read more
