Well, like a dumbbell, I gave these guys another chance. Please, don't ask me why. My personal computer went on the blink again, and I'd received a written message here on Yelp.com from the owner saying that the company was "under new management" now, therefore it was a new day for Computer Gurus and how they operate. I phoned the guy, told him what was wrong with my PC and that I didn't have a whole lot of money to spend this time, given the nearly $800 the previous company had charged me for the repair. He said he was sure we could "work something out." Again, instead of just coming by, his advice to me was to disconnect and bring the system in for him to look at. I agreed, double-checked the hours of operation, then a couple of days later I took some time off from work and walked the PC over to the store (less than one block from my apartment). It was a full hour after Computer Gurus was supposed to be open, but lo' and behold the door was locked and no one was there. I rang the doorbell, knocked on the glass and called from my mobile phone to no avail. In total, I waited about 20 minutes on the sidewalk with the tower tucked under my arm. I phoned the owner again and left a voicemail message letting him know that I was outside his door during business hours and that the store was closed with no notification to customers as to status. I left a similar message when I finally got to work late morning. In keeping with my previous experience with this company, that call and message remain ignored, and unreturned to date. I had a good experience here. My laptop was making a screeching noise, it seemed to be loaded with viruses because my software was out of date and the screen was shutting down while I was using the laptop. I went in and described the problem. I mentioned to Rad I'm a small business owner. He knew the laptop was really important to me. I brought the laptop in, he said he'd have to order a part. It could take a week. When he saw my concern, he expedited the shipping. He returned my laptop to me stating it wouldn't be ideal but I could still use it while we waited for the part. The part showed in 2 days. I brought the laptop back and said I'd return by 2:00 p.m. the next day. The technician told me he could have it in the a.m. I had errands to run so I said 2:00 p.m. was fine. My only frustration is the laptop was not ready at 2:00 p.m.. He was still cleaning it up and loading software even though he had all night and all morning to do it. He did however, exceed my expectations, they loaded new malware, upgraded my IE browser, replaced the part. We tested my laptop before I left, it's perfect. I think they gave great service for a good price. I'd go back again anytime. read more

Terrible!!! I'm a senior at Columbia college they had my computer for over a month wouldn't return phone calls. Then they made me pay for them to look at it and back it up even though they didnt get it fixed!!! Don't go there! They don't know what customer service is read more

If you have a Mac, don't bother with these guys. They have to send the computer off somewhere as they can't "diagnose" problems with Mac on-site. (More on why diagnose is is quotations later.) My wife dropped the computer off and agreed to this as she did not understand that this was not a good sign. I would not have left it with them. She was informed that it could take up to a week to get a diagnosis. The problem I was experiencing was a failure to boot up. Two days later, I received a call. The person who answered the phone said they couldn't fix the problem without deleting all the files on my hard drive. I asked if they were able to boot up the computer and was told, yes, they were but they couldn't improve the boot speed without reinstalling the operating system which, by they way, they couldn't do without me bringing them the boot disk that came with the computer. I informed them that this was not why I brought the computer in and the person seemed confused. I had to re-explain the problem all over again. They repeated that they couldn't save the files and would need the boot disk to fix it. They had no idea what was causing the problem as they hadn't even looked at the right issue. I asked to pick up my computer the next day. When I went to pick up the computer, the person brought it out and said, "We were able to get it to the boot screen, so at least we diagnosed that." I am not sure what their definition of "diagnose" is but it isn't do something I was able to do 1 time out of 50. I was still required to pay the $50 to get my computer back, even though nothing had been done and they couldn't have spent more than 15 minutes booting the computer and telling me they needed my boot disk. I was less than impressed with this company and had to take my computer to the Apple store. I want to support local business but this is not one I will be supporting in the future. They really did not seem to know what they were doing with a Mac. read more

This place is just garbage. I came in with my desktop in hopes that they would be able to investigate a terribly loud engine-like sound that appeared when I was attempting to install a newer cpu cooler (which did not fit). I came in with the older cpu cooler detached, and asked them to investigate the sound, check to see if there is any hardware failures, and install the cpu cooler for me. This was a Saturday, and the guy promised me he'll be done by Monday. Of course, THAT didn't happen. And on Wednesday, he called me up telling me that he "realized what was wrong with my computer." When I asked him what was wrong he said "the cpu cooler isn't installed." This just bewildered me as INSTALLING THE CPU COOLER was one of my requests when I brought the tower in. Did it actually take them 2 extra days to figure that out? After they said they attached the cpu cooler and "everything's working fine!" I came in and asked them to turn my computer on to test it. The loud engine sound was still there. I asked them why it was still there and they just answered with a shrug and said "it's probably normal". And then... the computer shuts itself off. After a couple more tests, he made the conclusion that either the cpu fan or the motherboard were the culprits. Telling me that the "motherboard" could be causing the problems is like a doctor telling you your "insides" are what is making you sick. He charged me $100 for this. And when I got home I found out what the problem was with the restarting. Taking off the CPU fan, I looked at one of the screws around the corner and noticed something... they were bent. As if somebody improperly forced the fan into the motherboard, carelessly. That's right. COMPUTER GURUS DAMAGED MY EQUIPMENT. I bought a new fan, installed it myself. It doesn't restart anymore. The sound is still there. But at least it's working. Please, do yourself a favor and look somewhere else. Unless you're looking for a place that will bust up your equipment and charge YOU for it, I see absolutely no reason to go there. read more

I brought my computer in as it had disconnected USB ports, the camera had broke, and it was experiencing serious delay in loading anything from the internet. I was told "no problem, we fix, $60". when I came to pick it up the FIRST time, the USB problem was still visable, as well as my microsoft office had not been loaded. the guy said he would fix it and I should come back tomorrow. I told them I didn't need it for the weekend and to go ahead and take their time to do it right. When I came back, he attempted to load my music back up and it loaded double. My adobe acrobat was no longer installed, the USB problem had not been fixed, the ports had all just been disabled, and the camera did not work. Not to mention it was still slow as hell! So basically for $60 he took miscrosoft office off and put it back on. This place is a SCAM and does not have competent employees! read more

My experience with this place was totally horrifying. This place is a big scam. I sent my IBook in to have the screen fixed last year when they first opened and didn't get my computer back til Feb this year. The tech who promised to call me and gave me an estimate never called and every time I called they just told me that he'd call me back. I had to go over there again to finally get my estimate, which they absolutely didn't honor when I went to pick up the computer. I ended up paying $125 more than what they quoted me originally. They never called me and told me that the estimate was incorrect they just told me about it when I went back. And that's not even it! I got my IBook back but it wouldn't load anymore and worst I found that half of the screws on the computer were missing. I got worried and took my IBook back to the Apple store and the tech there told me that my hard-drive was not showing on the hardware list anymore. He said the hard-drive could be either missing or just a connection problem but Apple store stopped servicing IBook last year, so he couldn't help me. I had no choice but take the laptop back to Computer Guru today and had them told me that they only warrant their service up to a month after pick up. None of them even bothered to take a look at my laptop to see what the problem is. They only way they will do anything is to charge me more money. So much for the service! Unbelievable! It doesn't deserve any star at all, but Yelp wouldn't let me post any review unless I gave it at least 1. I'm warning all of you to stay away from this place. Who knows what they will do to your computer. I might need to seek legal advice about my missing hard-drive. read more

AVOID THESE CROOKS. They will put used computer parts into your computer. They took weeks to fix what I was told a "simple" problem. I paid 3 times what I was told I'd pay, and after two months my computer was dead. I took my computer to another service center who told me they replaced my computer's hard drive with a used one. These guys should be in jail. read more

I wish these guys were more organized. They are sooo unorganized but they know computers. They took a while to get my computer back to me for a very simple fix but I got it back in tip-top shape. read more
