If you have an Apple computer, and you're not under warranty, avoid this place. They're going to to charge you $75 to "diagnose" the issue with your computer. For me, that meant a failed hard drive, which was very obvious to me as a non-pro, so I can only assume it was more obvious to them. I'm disappointed because they could have told me that they only used parts sourced from Apple, which means that they're VERY expensive. Instead, they had me bring in my computer, charged me the minimum 1-hour, $75 charge to diagnose what we had already discussed, and ONLY THEN let me know that it would cost almost $400, JUST FOR THE HARD DRIVE. Go google the cost of a 1TB HDD, they average about $60-$100. If they had told me up front that their hard drives would cost so much, I would have never brought my computer in, and I would never have paid them $75 to tell me what we both know. In the end, I bought a hard drive and the special part needed for this model of iMac for a total of $150. Add in the charge from Smart Technology, and that's a total of $225. That's STILL less expensive than the price of the hard drive they had quoted me, and that doesn't include the hourly labor charge! If you have an Apple product that's under warranty, and you're SURE that's the case, then take your chances: you shouldn't need to worry about their ridiculous costs because Apple will be paying for repairs. But if not, avoid this place. All they want to do is get you in the door so they can charge their minimum fee and overcharge you for parts. They know darn well how expensive their parts are, and they should do the right thing and let you know that up front before you're on the hook for their minimum charge. read more

Scheduled a battery replacement for my iPhone a week prior to coming in. When I got there I was told they hadn't received batteries from Apple. That's fine but why not contact me and tell me not to come in? That would have been the courteous and professional thing to do. Furthermore I was asked to fill out a paper form (odd for a tech company) so when they came in they would contact me. Never heard back. Pretty poor all around and I won't go back or recommend Apple affiliates anymore. read more

I had called Lenovo technical support because my touch screen stopped working. I let them remote in to my computer and they managed to destroy my video driver so I could no loger use my computer. I brought it over here and they had it all fixed (including the touch screen) in under an hour. Fantastic service. Would highly recommend them! read more

My MacBook had a minor problem that was covered in an Apple Quality Program. I made an appointment with Smart Technology Services because the shop was very close to me. I called in upfront, confirmed that they regularly followed Apple protocols, and brought my laptop in. The experience was pleasant and efficient -- the staff knew exactly what they were doing and made sure to utilize all resources they had available to solve the customers' problems. Mine in particular was timing - they closely followed up on the shipment of the part they ordered for my repairs and kept clear, prompt communication with me so that I got my repairs done in time while having maximum flexibility to access my computer. They are kind, well-informed, capable and resourceful -- an absolute delight to work with. read more

If I could give them zero stars, I would. I took my Lenovo laptop in for warranty service after I spilled a small amount of liquid on the keyboard and track pad. The mouse wasn't working properly after the spill, so I knew that was the reason why. They had my computer for a few hours, then called me and told me there was nothing wrong with it, my mouse driver just needed to be reinstalled, and they would have to charge me to do that, even though I had a three year warranty that covered accidental damage. I told the guy that he was wrong when I picked up my computer, and I took it to another Lenovo service provider (in Skokie), who found the damage, and repaired the computer. I had to go all the way to Skokie to get good service. Smart Technology Services sucks! read more

Generally they are not very communicative. Initially, each of the two gentlemen I spoke with seemed very confused about what was going on, where they were located, and how to help me. When I'd filled out a ticket, they had trouble remembering who I was or finding me later. Eventually, they could not determine what was wrong with my laptop and claimed to have done tests. I still had to pay them an hour's fee though they fixed nothing and my laptop is still not repaired. Not very impressed overall. read more

Worst customer service I have ever received. I'm a pretty easy going guy and usually am very understanding, but these guys are the worst. And they're liars. The worst kinda people. I dropped my macbook pro off to get a strange noise diagnosed. These guys gladly took it in and told me they would call me in a few days to tell me the problem. One week later (after no phone call) I called to see if the problem had been diagnosed. "Oh yeah, the fan bearing is seized" - They said, meaning that it had already been diagnosed, they just didn't bother to call me to let me know. WTF? Ok, so I give them clearance to order a replacement fan from apple and make the repairs. Again, they said they would call me in about a week. 2 weeks later, after hearing nothing from them, I call again. "Apple lost the fan in shipping, so I'm having one over-night shipped now, I'll have the repair done tomorrow". Again, would have been nice to receive a call that there was a problem with shipping, since it had been now three weeks for a repair that takes about an hour. The next day, after not hearing that my repair was done, I called AGAIN. NO ANSWER, so I left a message, NO CALL BACK. FOR 3 DAYS. I call again. it has now been 4 weeks. "Yeah, apple lost the fan again. We'll have another one shipped out, it will be here in a few days. " I'm sorry, but this sounds a lot like "we keep forgetting to order the fan so we're blaming another company." After 4 weeks of trying to replace a seized fan, Smart Technology Services failed. WOW, couldn't replace a fan????? I picked up my laptop, which I use for work, 4 weeks later, literally untouched. Never once was I offered discounted service, or anything to offset the fact that this had taken so long. They just kept saying "I'm sorry". Well, that makes two of use because I'm also sorry, but if you screw up like this, you try and make it right again, not just shrug your shoulders and say, "sorry". Let's put these guys out of business. read more

I have no idea where the below bad reviews are coming from... it's kind of telling that they all have only one or two other reviews, though. This is the best tech support experience I've ever had. I've brought various Macs in half a dozen times and have always had amazing (and very quick) service. Josh once kept the store open an hour late in a snowstorm so I could get my laptop back before the weekend. They've never charged me mysterious fees and I know I've gotten some services for free because they didn't think it was worth charging for. It's the exact opposite of the Apple Store. read more

We took my girlfriend's Lenovo here when it very inconveniently broke while we were on a short trip to Chicago. We had only a few days in Chicago before traveling on to another city for a few more days, which meant that we needed a place that would work fast. And they did: they got the repair done overnight--even though it involved replacing the motherboard, and so basically rebuilding the whole computer--and they didn't even charge extra for the hurry. In fact, since they are a certified Lenovo services provider, so they didn't charge us anything at all. On top of that, they were so damn friendly, courteous, professional and smart. They were willing to explain everything they did in detail, and taught me a few tricks for repairing this laptop for when the warranty runs out. Basically, we couldn't be happier with a repair shop. I wish we knew a place this fantastic back home in the Bay Area!! read more

I hate having to make reviews like this, but I just received some pretty terrible service on a laptop repair, and hope that no other customer has to deal with this same bad service (I mentioned that to them as well upon leaving). I brought a laptop in for a screen repair and touchpad replacement. Both pretty standard repair jobs. Expectedly costly, but standard repairs. I hadn't heard anything for a handful of days, and decided to reach out to them instead. The rep on the phone stated that the estimate had been done already, and the quote was waiting. Why did I have to contact them, instead of vice versa?! Isn't that the point of leaving customer's contact info? After reading other reviews, this seems to be a trend with Smart. On top of the lack of communication, they never marked down that the touchpad needed repair as well. I blame their archaic paper/hard copy work order process, but also blame the rep who took in the laptop. I had hoped this would be our business' go-to spot for local Lenovo repairs, but if they can't communicate with their customers or get the work order correct, there's no way I'm confidently relying on them for hardware repairs. read more

I picked STS from a list of Apple recommended repair company and must say that I have been extremely impressed with their service. I have been dealing with Josh since the beginning and he consistently was very professional and customer focused. He handled all my questions wit patience and my numerous calls with questions. He even went as far as giving me tips and recommendations about the problems this computer was experiencing and where to find information. What impressed me the most is what happened last week. It had been more than a month since I had not talked to STS and I received a call out of the blue from Josh. He explained to me that he had just heard that my computer problems were being discussed by Apple and that he would be happy to check for me if our computer was part of the recall. I could not believe he took the time, on his own, to call me like this and help. Since then he checked and it appears that my computer is part of the recall. He offered to have me bring it back for him to verify how he could help me file the claim. This part of a national recall for Apple computers. I still cannot believe he would call me back like this, That's customer service. I highly recommend STS because they worked with me and above all for their superior customer service and I highly recommend you ask for Josh!! I am in the hospitality industry and have already used this example to show what true customer service is! Well done Josh and thank you for caring so much about your customers. read more

I want to say first off, they did a great job with the service they provided; they replaced my motherboard and all the ports are functional, all the components were properly reconnected and the computer functions as it should. Long story short, there was a problem with my Macbook Pro where the motherboard was accidentally short circuited and would not recognize the battery or run off AC power. Hence I needed to replace the whole motherboard. The good thing about this place is they do order genuine parts from Apple, which are usually much better when replacing components (compared to 3rd party parts). It took them 4 weeks to get the service done, which was more drawn out then it should've been. My phone number was originally entered in wrong, and so the first week when they did confirm the diagnosis, I never received the call and called them a week after I dropped it off and they said they were waiting on my confirmation to order the board if I was going to go through with it. Whatever, mistakes happen, no big deal and I told them that day they had my go ahead to order the board, which they said the would do right away. A week later I call again on Friday, since I didn't hear anything yet and just wanted to know what the status was. They said the same thing; they were waiting on my confirmation to order the board. I was confused and immediately told the gentleman I was told the same thing on the phone last week, and I told them to order it. It wasn't done. So he apologized for whoever didn't follow my instruction to go ahead and order it. I called again a week later (after not hearing anything still) and they said the board was delayed, but they would install it as soon as they got it. At the middle of the 4th week it came in, I was called on the Monday telling me they got it and same day installed it, and I came to get it Tuesday. I do think they did a good job with the service, but they need to work on reaching out to the customer and maintaining contact, and not making crucial mistakes like not ordering a part when I gave them the go ahead, and me having to call a week later to do the same thing again. read more

I can't say enough good things about the service I received here. After inconveniently spilling hot tea on my Macbook Air, it went completely dead on me in a matter of minutes. I took it to the Apple store and they said that it would cost at least $755 to get it fixed there. I also talked to numerous other people who said that liquid damage wasn't even worth repairing and I should just go ahead and buy a new machine - until a colleague recommended this place. I brought my laptop in on Monday morning, received a quote about what needed to be replaced by noon on Monday, and got it back Wednesday morning. That's less than 48 hours and my Macbook is as good as new - works perfectly and still have all my data. It also ended up costing me less than half of what Apple had estimated for repair.
