As a dedicated Popville reader when I saw a PSA on there saying that Compliments Only has the best turkey sandwich in town, I knew I had to give it a try. My go-to at at deli is a turkey sandwich of some sorts so I had high expectations and man, they did NOT disappoint. I did have to wait a day because when I went at 1pm the day after the post they were sold out early! But the next day I was wise enough to place my order online....and also did that the day after that. Yes, I ate the Crunchy Boi two days in a row it was that good. Compliments Only is an incredible addition to the district! I like to order their "crunchy boi", snag a bag of chips and a drink. The staff are very enthusiastic and welcoming, which makes the lunch break to the shop something to look forward to rather than dread. Although small, the place has plenty of seating for its size and doesn't feel cramped. For those who complain about the price, the sandwich is freakin' HUGE. I typically eat one half of it and save the other half for later. They do not short change you on ANY of the ingredients, the chip bags are huge, too, and their drinks are more than affordable. If I could give them higher than a 5 I would!!!!! My mom and I visited here for the first time today and when I tell y'all this is the BEST SANDWICH SHOP IN DC I mean that !!!! Thank my word for it (I'm plus size!!!) The service was superb. We ended up ordering another sandwich lol. We first tried the "crunchy boi " and it lived up to the hype it was salty from the potato chips and no the potato chips did not get soggy. The bread was so soft and held the sandwich together perfectly they use Dukes mayo, which is in my top two favorites. The ratio were everything the sandwich held up well it wasn't falling all over the place. The turkey is thinly shaved as well, just everything about the sandwich was amazing. secondly, we tried the team master sub and that one was also amazing. It had sweet peppers on it which gave it a vinegar taste, which I'm a fan of I rate the first one and 1000 out of 10 and the second one and 900 out of 10 the ambience was also a vibe in there, they also have a wall that you can put a picture of your dog which was a plus for me. The services were outstanding our waitress was very attentive to our needs stopping by and asking if we needed anything else without us looking for her sorry I did not get her name. I'm going back on Tuesday and will ask for her 10 stars for service. On another note your manager on duty was incredibly helpful and made us feel like we were family 20 stars for him we were there 22 at 6PM gentleman manager on duty. I'm not super impressed, I'm will you say I probably ordered wrong (I got the Crunchy Boi but I subbed in capicola instead of turkey). The sandwich was very large, which is a good thing, but I found a hair in it, which is a bad thing. The service was great, friendly staff. Good selection of sodas, but they weren't chilled totally. I don't expect too much for a counter service place, but the quality of ingredients disappointed me. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, but I didn't pay $18 for a lettuce sandwich. The capicola wasn't good and was way too thick, it tasted off. The cheese was okay but a little rubbery like it was sitting out. The bread got soggy by the time I sat down in a nearby park, and the sandwich ingredients were not evenly distributed, I got a bite of just mayo, the a bite of just capicola (that was too thick with a weird taste, then a bite of just lettuce (even if perfectly crisp). I really wanted to love this place, but with my two sandwich experiences, it never lived up to what some of the other reviews preach. Cute place, very kind and friendly staff, and efficient process. First time I went I got the crunchy boy, and while all of the ingredients tasted great, the sandwich construction wasn't the best. Some of my bites were 80% mayo, and some had no mayo. Spreading out the mayo instead of it all in the middle of the bun would definitely help with combining the flavors more deliciously. Decided to stop by today to give them another chance. Made my own turkey sandwich with lettuce, cheddar, chips, and the honey chipotle aioli (which was delish!). Paid $1 extra for chips (which was so fine), but was sad to see no chips on the sandwich when I opened it. While I understand this happens and it naturally wasn't the end of the world, for $ added on for ingredients, I was a bit disappointed. I hope this review serves as some good feedback, as I would love to come back again. $16 a sandwich is definitely on the pricier side, and when spending that I'm expecting a well-made, to order sandwich. read more
