Breakfast/Lunch Stop Worth the Detour I'm a pretty picky eater. Not because I want to be, but because I have to be. I try to eat vegetarian in the morning, and I'm allergic to wheat, which makes dining out a little more complicated than it should be. My boyfriend found this little café outside Banff, and honestly, it turned out to be one of the better food surprises of the trip. We both ordered the Pad Thai -- one loaded with extra protein, one without. I had low expectations. I've eaten enough Thai food to know that about 7 or 8 out of 10 places overcook the noodles. They become soft, mushy, and fall apart the moment you touch them. Not here. The noodles were cooked perfectly -- still chewy with a nice bite. The peanut sauce was another pleasant surprise. It wasn't overly sweet or heavy like many North American versions. The balance was just right. The spice level was mild, which I appreciated because the dish actually tasted like Pad Thai instead of being buried under a mountain of chili. The vegetables were generous, fresh, and plentiful. My boyfriend's chicken portion wasn't huge, but there was plenty of tofu, which made sense since the dish is originally designed as a vegetarian option. The chef seemed to add the chicken as an extra rather than making it the star of the plate. The portion looked manageable when it arrived. It was not. I couldn't finish mine, and my boyfriend had to rescue the remaining noodles. Pad Thai: 4/5 The Vegan Berry Scone was light, not greasy, and not overly sweet. The strawberries and blueberries added little bursts of tartness, and there was a nice oat flavor throughout. My only complaint? It might have been too healthy. A tiny bit more sweetness could have taken it from "good" to "wow." Vegan Berry Scone: 3/5 The Vegan Chocolate Cake was exactly what a chocolate lover would want. Rich dark chocolate flavor without being sugary or overwhelming. It was a little dense and heavy, but in a comforting way that made me keep reaching for another bite. If the cake itself were slightly more moist, it would be nearly perfect. That said, making something both vegan and gluten-free that tastes this good deserves credit. Vegan Chocolate Cake: 4/5 What really impressed me was the overall value. Since the café is outside the main Banff tourist zone, prices are much more reasonable, parking is easy, and they offer a surprisingly large selection of gluten-free and vegan options. For someone like me, who usually spends half the meal interrogating the menu, that alone is worth celebrating. Final Rating: 4/5 Good food, fair prices, easy parking, and plenty of options for people with dietary restrictions. I'd absolutely come back. In fact, if I'm passing through again, I probably won't bother looking for another place.
Terrific food. Fresh, large portions, and most with a side of seasoned popcorn. Tasty bakery items. I had the ahi tuna poke tartare which was one of the best I've had. Hubby had the mountain veggie wrap with tofu scramble (a bit of a turmeric taste then hummus and Caesar dressing). Very good. Colorful tables outside plus seating inside. Lovely staff. Fair prices. Such a lovely place!
I was in dire need of an amazing cup of freshly roasted and brewed coffee and that's exactly what I got when I visited Communitea. What a beautiful locally owned coffee shop. They have a huge selection of freshly baked goods, sandwiches salads and of course .... amazing coffee. The staff were very friendly and helpful to a new customer. I am so glad I found this spot.
Very good food and the coffee is delicious Not cheap at least you get good experience! Located in down town.
We dropped by for brunch on a weekday and the cafe was still pretty busy. We got the veggie burrito, Buddha bowl, hemp protein balls and a mocha. Food was delicious and the service was quick. The cafe was adorned with beautiful paintings on sale from local artists. Worth a visit!
This is a great cafe and I wish I had discovered it sooner while in Canmore. I came on a rainy Tuesday for some coffee and food and to do some reading before heading out for more hiking. I got the pad Thai, which was good and filling, and a coffee. Coffee was above average. Really nice staff and a great place to read a book or get some work done. Lots of big windows and light which was nice. Tons of teas to choose from, many vegan options, and the salads looked really good. Great spot in downtown Canmore!
This was a lovely place to stop for lunch in Canmore! I got avocado toast, which had hummus, avocado, tomatoes, and I added smoked salmon. The combination of flavors on that toast was so good and satiating! Popcorn as a side was super unique but very fun. Plating on both dishes were very visually pleasing as well. I would come here again if in Canmore!
CommuniTea Cafe really hit the spot after a day of splurging on foods and adventure. I was really craving something fresh and healthy while on vacation. This really hit the spot! Communitea Cafe is a really cute and spacious cafe. It's open with plenty of seating indoors and some seating outdoor. You order first and then have a seat. I ordered the Buddha Bowl with dressing on the side. I loved the shredded beets and carrots along with the handful of spinach. I do wish there was more tofu, but otherwise, I really enjoyed this combination bowl with the brown rice. My partner also got the taco bowl, which has also really enjoyed. This is great spot for quick meal. They also have a good selection of teas, which I always appreciate! The cashier is friendly and answered all my questions! The portions are decent and satisfying. I definitely enjoyed my meal!
Came here for lunch with my family - portions were a bit small, especially the quesadilla (only 3 pieces). The prices were a bit high, but the staff was super friendly. It is clear that they are environmentally conscious (and compost!) and market themselves as a healthy eatery. From best to worst: The best thing we ordered was the Chipotle Chicken and Avocado Quesadilla. The cheese was sharp and yummy, and the quesadilla came with red pepper hummus and a side of chips. Overall very flavorful. Avocado Side Up: there was not enough avocado in the slightest, but still tasty. The bread was a bit thick but had a nice crust on the bottom. We also enjoyed the popcorn, which was cumin flavored. Buddha Bowl: this was a little plain, and there was not enough tofu. There was a great variety of greens in there though, and the sunflower seeds gave a nice crunch Satay Noodle Bowl: DO NOT get this one--the noodles were too soft and broken, and the flavor was overpowered by coconut and not enough peanut. My brother also got the Taco Bowl which he enjoyed - it had plenty of toppings.
Very nice laidback and unpretentious place. I first came for breakfast and tried the avocado toast. It comes with hummus, avocado and tomato. I thought the avocado and hummus pairing was unusual but it worked well. It's served on ciabatta bread. We also stop by to get one of their bowls to go so we could eat it on our flight back home. We got the yoga bowl and it was so delicious. I really loved the tahini dressing and the masala chickpeas. I definitely think this is a good option for virtually anything, breakfast, lunch, light dinner and everything in between. I am going to try to make that yoga bowl at home. Hopefully it turns out just as good.
A review that's long overdue! Communitea Cafe is SO my cuppa tea! This is precisely the type of place that my hubby and I seek out wherever we travel and even back at home. A welcoming cafe that offers delicious, healthy food in a bright and cheerful atmosphere! We ordered a few things to share and fuel up for a full day of exploring Canmore and Banff: *Matcha Latte *Maple Latte (I mean, Canada = the best maple, right?) *Protein Power Bowl *Avocado Side Up Not a drop or morsel was left on our plates or cups! Great flavor, loaded with nutrients, and topped off with those warm, comforting lattes. The staff was also very friendly and clearly proud of their cafe when we chatted with them and asked about a couple of menu items. Great vibe all around! They are certainly keeping Canmore fresh, healthy & vibrant (just as they state on their homepage)! Can't wait to come back!

Wow--Canmore is exceeding itself with this chic health conscious cafe! Apparently it has been around for a long time, but recently undergone an Instagram-worthy facelift. The establishment is spacious and bright, with carefully considered details, down to the old timey candy shop striped paper straws that they hand out with cold drinks. The menu options are manifold. You can tick off all of your veggie and protein requirements for the day with one of their generous grain bowls. They even do a version of their Buddha bowl for kids, with rice, avocado, tofu, and sweet potato--nary a chicken nugget in sight! I opted for a quesadilla, which came with a whole wheat tortilla, sharp natural cheddar, and local chicken. Delicious. My only slight quibble is that the lemonade was REALLY sweet, so consider splitting one with a friend and watering it down. This would be an excellent place to take someone who has food allergies or is veggie/vegan. read more

A friend introduced us to this place while we were visiting Canmore for the weekend. I like the setup a lot, cafe style. I ordered the sushi bowl with wild salmon sashimi added. It comes with brown rice, avocado, cucumber, carrot, nori (seaweed paper), peppers, sprouts, kale, and a carrot ginger miso dressing so the meal won't be completely dry. Everything looked and tasted really fresh. The only thing I'm very disappointed about is that they give you 3 tiny pieces of sashimi. At almost $15 for a sashimi bowl, I expected it to be full of salmon. However, this is Canmore, so everything is already overpriced. Service was decent. I still would come back for the overpriced sushi bowl since it's a good choice for a healthy cafe. Pros: - Fresh and organic food products Cons: - Overpriced for what you get read more

We absolutely LOVED this place. The teas were all delicious, the food was SPECTACULAR, and the ambiance was amazing. Everything was incredibly clean, the employees were all so nice, and the restaurant was very eco friendly which we loved. I got the pad Thai bowl and the soup of the moment (precious) which was a roasted vegetable. All incredibly tasty!! Sadly we were only in Canmore for the day but if we go back I would absolutely eat here again!! read more
Awesome place to grab a healthy bite for breakfast and lunch! Portions and prices are reasonable too. All the lunch bowls I tried (see photos) were delicious. The smoked salmon (lox) add-on is also super good. Here's my ranking of the bowls I've had: 1.) Shrimp Nori Bowl 2.) Pad Thai 3.) Buddha Bowl 4.) Thai Coconut Curry Rice Bowl For breakfast, I recommend the Gourmet Grilled Cheese. It tastes amazing and has a good cheese-pull. The Big Breakfast Bowl is also a good option; it's more of a cold dish. The cafe, including its restroom, is clean. Service is satisfactory. Definitely come here to eat if you are in the Canmore/Banff area! read more

My favorite spot that we ate at in Canada. We ended up eating here twice! Cute spot, fast service. I ordered the mother vegan grain bowl. Very good and filling. Also ordered the maple latte, very happy with my order. My friends and daughter were also very happy with their orders. read more

Alright guys, do come here for vegetables; do not come here for the Pad Thai. It simply does not taste like it should. It just tastes like linguini noodles in peanut sauce... If you're a vegetarian, however, you will love their power salad bowl. My vege friend devoured it; the vegetables were absolutely fresh, vibrant, flavorful. If I come back, even my carnivorous self would order the same. The tahini garlic sauce that it comes with adds another dimension to vegetables. You can't get more wholesome than that. Vegetables in Canada taste way better than in America. Surprise surprise. Also, their iced maple latte is on point. I enjoyed that way more than my noodles. Communitea has a nice, light atmosphere and friendly service. Rounding up my 3.5 stars but I still feel my main dish was a sore disappointment. :-( read more
What a cute cafe! I love that it's community orientated even from the name. A wall of tea options available and I choose a fruity tea and the avocado toast. for brunch. You order before you take a seat as there is no table service. It's so bright inside with so many windows all the way around the building.The decor is cute and every table has a vase with flowers from a local florists. The wall by my table had mounted plant pots and succulents creeping out. It was lovely! The food was good. Avocado everything is great but this avo toast was topped with mango salsa to give a bit of a bite . A really refreshing breakfast in a delightful setting. read more

Such a cute little cafe for a solo breakfast! Upon entry, you can sample their tea of the day which was a tasty moringa tea and you take the menu then order at the counter. I ordered the hemp berry smoothie bowl, substituting yoghurt for coconut milk (option to make it vegan.) After ordering you take your number and they bring it to the table. You can help yourself to water (I only knew this when I saw other people bringing their water to the table.) My smoothie bowl arrived quickly and it was delicious! Running than I expected but still very good. Their homemade granola was a treat! A nice place with a calming vibe. Wifi available as well. read more
I went for breakfast here today and I really enjoyed the whole experience. Great decor, friendly staff and yummy food. The chinook panini had smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and hummus with some apple slices on the side. The open faced sandwich had avacado, tomotoes and pesto on ciabata bread. These were great! You could also add toppings to these like bacon The maple latte had beautiful latte art on top and the maple taste was very subtle which i liked. read more

Loves for Communitea! I drove out to Canmore for a change of scenery for the day and stopped in at Communitea for some lunch and to settle in for a couple of hours of work. I ordered myself a black bean, corn and avocado quesadilla. Sounds good, right? Hold on... it's made with organic black beans, roasted red peppers, aged cheddar and cilantro on a sprouted grain or gluten free tortilla with a side of organic blue corn tortillas and housemade salsa. AND... it's $9.50. I know, right? You totally want to just hop in your car and drive out to Canmore for lunch now, don't you? I encourage this. The rest of the menu is full of healthy, good feeling breakfast and lunch options. Think paninis, sandwiches, soups and lunch bowls. There's a kids menu too. Tip: If you bring your own lunch container for take out, you save 5% on your meal! Call ahead! read more

After reading all the rave reviews on Yelp, we came to this place for breakfast. There is plenty of outdoor seating facing the beautiful Canmore downtown and a huge indoor seating as well. I loved the vibe inside this dainty cafe shop - white walls with flamboyant decor art work and collectibles. Just the way I love it!! We ordered a power bowl, rise and shine panini, cafe latte and coffee. The power bowl was delicious. Loved the panini and especially loved the way the cheese oozed itself out of the sandwich. Maple cafe latte was commendable! Highly recommend stopping here for a meal when you are in Canmore. read more

It's a must do during my personal Canmore excursions. The variety of teas, coupled with the "French Press" experience gives Communitea that feel of some place special. This trip we had the strawberry and organic pear green teas. Even in the presses the aroma of the teas heightens the anticipation, they smell so good. We also had an Almond-Apple-Spinach salad (forgot the actually name of the dish) that was off the charts. With the additions of red peppers, dried cranberries and balsamic dressing this was a refreshing, healthy light snack. So simple, but so delicious. The service is excellent and the cafe with its ample white interior and lots of sunlight shinning through gives me a kind of positive vibe buzz. I always find coming here such a rejuvenating experience! read more

The line was out of the door, but we took it as a sign that the food was just that good- and it was! It's hard to want to eat somewhere with healthy fare. I often associate this with lack of flavor. This was not the case here! We got the yoga bowl and chipotle quesadilla and they were both flavorful and hearty! To top it off, we had a maple latte and it was seriously the best we had all trip. My wife and I came here for lunch based on yelp recommendations. First off the mood was kind of what I expected, it's a little coffee shop where you go up and order you drinks and food and then find a place to sit and they bring it out to you. We ordered the Pad Thai bowl and the dragon bowl (with added "free-range" chicken). The bowls were good with lots of fresh vegetables. The only issue is sauce, there is a lot of sauce. If we ever go there again I'll be sure to order half sauce or sauce on the side. Overall it was good, it was worth stopping in to try, but in a town where there are a lot of great eats, we'll be moving on to something else next time. read more
I have been to Communitea Cafe twice now and have never been disappointed. They are known for their vegetarian/vegan menu. I was actually staying in Banff but found it too touristy for food so I ventured to Canmore for the afternoon. I ordered the Buddha bowl and my goodness it was incredible and tasty!!! Organic brown rice and spinach topped with ginger sesame soy baked organic tofu, shredded beets, sprouts, pumpkin & sunflower seeds and a rich tahini garlic dressing. It was a generous portion of food and left me super satisfied. I was afraid the tahini garlic dressing would be overpowering but that wasn't the case at all. I also ordered the lemon grass peppermint tea, a perfect way to warm up! The vibe here is casual and cool. Lots of tables and couches to hang out. read more
I honestly couldn't stop looking at the pictures on Yelp of Communitea Cafe. The decor looked beyond-IKEA-level incredible and I loved loved loved their menu. I spent twenty minutes in the car beforehand, just because I couldn't decide between the Buddha Bowl or the Yoga Bowl. To my dismay, this place turned out to be pretty overrated and for several reasons. First off, the courteousness of the lady who took my older seemed so force. Her words and tone sounded very enthusiastic, but she failed to show a smidge of spirit on her face. I felt almost patronized having my order taken by her. I asked for dressing on the side for my Yoga Bowl on the go. I was very specific about it too, since I have sensitivities to dressings (and also I didn't know what tahini was... oops!). The lady acknowledged this fact. Then I waited on the couch for a good 15 minutes. Even though the bowl seems simple to make, expect to wait a long time. I'm not sure if it's because everything is super fresh or they are really understaffed, but I was getting a little impatient about my take-out order. When the order was ready, a different person came with a nice smile and gave me my bowl in an environmentally conscious container (nice!). I open it to make sure it's right and was absolutely appalled to see a half-empty box with dressing smeared all over the chickpeas and sweet potato. I paid $15+. TLDR: this place is overpriced and they do not listen to instructions. At that point, I was so impatient and my family had waited for me for long time to purchase this meal. I wanted to ask the lady who took my order why there was dressing on it, but no one was behind the register since the store was almost closing. It would've taken forever for them to make another one anyways, and my family had been waiting for me for a long time. I left in frustration. Amazing!!! I looked up this place while doing my usual foodie research for a quick trip to Banff and Canmore. From the online menu I knew I had to come here, and boy am I glad I did. This cafe is perfect for anyone wanting a break from all the burgers and steak the region has to offer. I personally was craving a healthy eating day after a few days in Banff. The place is bright and modern with sofas and regular tables. The service is very quick and extremely friendly. I had a very hard time deciding what to order because everything including the daily specials looked amazing. I settled on the Mega Fresh Bowl with extra goats cheese and the tahini garlic dressing (which I was told is a local favourite). I also got a cream of Earl Grey London Fog. Fortunately for me they had both almond and soy milk for all their coffee and tea selections. If you're a tea enthusiast, this place will not disappoint as they carry an enormous selection. My salad was incredible. It was huge but I managed it no problem. Everything was fresh and bright and the dressing was amazing. I also sampled a few of their mini vegan treats- the chocolate macaroon heart particularly stands out. Overall, Communitea is one of those rare places (in Canada at least) that offers healthy and of-the-moment options (ie. Beet burger!) I would eat here all the time if I could. read more
Comfortable and lovely environment, great staff, Pacific Avocado Toast completely delicious. So was the coconut chocolate chai latte. Tea choices galore! The staff was friendly and at 11 am not much of a crowd. Many comfy ways to sit for meal...bar, table, counches. read more

Great salads, wanted the market salad but it's sold out for the day, so I went with the mango Thai salad with egg and shrimp, it is amazing! The portion is good and great flavors, it really has the Thai taste. read more

We drove into Canmore starving & Communitea Cafe immediately caught our eye. Although it was cute, that was nothing compared to the food & coffee we enjoyed! Everything was so fresh & delicious, and the portions were perfect. I will be back soon! read more
