But such a fun take on a Utah classic. +Broccolini--really flavorful. Also a decent portion for a side. +Grilled hangar steak with charred scallion chimichurri & pickled fresno pepper--so good and perfectly cooked to a medium rare. The chimichurri packed so much flavor. Ended up being the perfect amount for the two of us. Wife and a friend brought a bottle of wine--their corkage fee is pretty low. Communal never fails to impress me, I'm glad I got to try their brunch, it will definitely worth it!! Dinner is very pricy but brunch is very affordable! The chorizo potato tacos was definitely a favorite, very flavorful and I love the crunchy shell. The French toast portions were huge, definitely food for sharing. The benedicts was good but nothing too special, was a little pricy for what we got in my opinion. The sandwich had a nice flavor too but they ran out of brioche which was disappointing, wish they don't us beforehand. Overall I would come back for the brunch next time!! read more

Make sure you get a reservation. We walked by and came here for dinner, but they couldn't take us in so we came back the next day for lunch with reservation. Everything was just okay. My husband ordered the croissant benedict. The croissant was disappointing because it looked and tasted store bought. It wasn't flaky at all. I was most disappointed with the coffee cake because while it came out warm, the inside was completely cold. It was also pretty dense. I had the Dutch baby and it was just fine. It just wasn't the best I had. They added butter in the center, and I do wish that they left it out or at least put it on the side for me. The Dutch baby was sweet but the butter made it salty. My son got the veggie hash and it was probably my favorite from here. The veggies were charred, which made it sweeter and soft to munch on. People tried to discourage us because of the price, but we are from San Francisco, so the quality here makes it worth it. The desserts are great and unique as well. The food was remarkably delicious! Great menu for breakfast! I had a Hash Root bowl, biscuits and Sage gravy , and a coconut milk, chia pudding with pineapple and cooked coconut flakes. I split mine with my significant other and it was perfect. Even another person could have filled up their belly on the generous amounts. This restaurant is the only reason we trek down to Provo. We love the beef Wellington night and have gone the last two years. The restaurant always has a wonderful vibe and is enjoyable no matter the occasion. Tonight we got cauliflower that was out of this world. I'm addicted. We did try the crispy pig, I wouldn't recommend it. The texture was off somehow hard and chewy at the same time as well as dry but had sauce. I've heard many good things about this place from other people so I decided to give it a try myself. Right from the start, the atmosphere was open, airy, and inviting. It smelled delicious too! The hostess was extremely warm and welcoming! We went for lunch and, as of May 29, 2020, the lunch offerings were a little limited (I'm unsure of how this compares to "normal" times and the amount offered on the menu) but each option seemed delicious. I went with the grilled asparagus and the potato croquet in homemade mornay sauce. HOLY. COW. So flavorful and well prepared! The potato croquet was perfectly crispy on the outside and not too gooey on the inside, and paired with the homemade sauce, it made for an extremely happy tastebud experience! Upon arriving, one of the servers(?) asked me very rudely if I had reservations, as if she was looking forward to turning us away if we didn't. No greeting or welcome, just demanding if we had reservations. When I told her we did she pointed us to a table uncomfortably close to another couple. There were only a handful of other diners there, so I asked if we could sit by the window. Seeming even more annoyed, she said that was for someone coming in with a reservation. I pointed out that I had a reservation, and there were multiple tables near a window. She muttered a few more excuses before finally saying "fine," and pointing to one. We sat, and eventually someone brought us water, but didn't ask if we wanted anything else to drink, or to tell us someone would be with us- nothing. We sat for 8-10 minutes and watched them go to other tables and talk between themselves, but no one ever approached us. I still have no idea what we did to be treated like that. We were dressed up nicely, we were polite, we were on time for our reservation... but we were treated so poorly and felt so unwelcome and mistreated I called Black Sheep across the street for their wait time, and we walked out and took our business there. Black Sheep seated us promptly and kindly, had fantastic food and dessert and even more importantly, service that CARED. Communal could learn a thing or two from them. This could be my favorite restaurant in Provo! The perfect spot for a nice weekend date night. Unbelievable food, great service, reasonable prices, and a cool ambiance. The main thing you have to know about this place is that everything is family style (hence the name communal). It's fun to try everything on the table! The foods are gourmet versions of American classics (steak, chicken, fish, salads, etc.) but the communal aspect makes it an interesting twist on the normal date night spot. My wife and I ordered one starter, one protein, one side, and a dessert. It was a perfect amount of food for us, but you could add an extra side if you want some leftovers. I brought my wife here for her birthday and we loved everything we tasted! The watermelon salad with creme fresh starter was fun and unique, the flank steak was perfectly cooked (with a killer house steak sauce), and the polenta cake had amazing flavor and a slight kick. But the total star of the night was dessert. You've got to try the butterscotch pudding. Its unreal. We were thinking of going across the street to get Rockwell ice cream but for the first time ever I was glad we didn't! It was so rich and delicious we practically licked the jar. The restaurant is small, but really charming and well decorated. Kind of an urban, hipster-y feel. I like that they cook the food right there in an open kitchen too. The location is great - right on university ave close to center street. There's even a small dedicated parking lot around the side. Our server, Nick, was helpful and attentive and the prices are totally reasonable. The main dishes are around $30 or so but you have to remember they're enough to feed two! Our whole bill was only 60 bucks or so for the night. I really can't think about anything bad to say about this place. Can't wait to go back! read more

We came here on our anniversary for a quick brunch and I gobbled everything up before I got pictures!! It's a shame because the food was beautiful and so, so tasty. We ordered the carne asada chilaquiles and a Dutch baby and both were perfection. I was floored by how fluffy and perfect the dutch baby was. It had the perfect custard-y feel that reminded me of a lighter crème brûlée. It wasn't egg-y or heavy, and is now a new favorite breakfast dish! The chilaquiles was equally impressive. The steak itself was incredible. Usually thin slices of steak tend to be over cooked and dry but it was flawlessly cooked and perfectly seasoned. All the elements of the dish were amazing, the crema, beans, radishes, tortilla chips, everything. It was less saucy than chilaquiles that I'm used to, but I enjoyed it that way. My only complaint was that it became cool so fast! The service was lovely and the atmosphere is unmatched. Their brunch is unreal and we will definitely be back. read more

Communal is my all-time favorite restaurant in Provo! (And I've tried almost every single restaurant in Provo!) just wanted to add some quick snaps of the current menu. London broil was one of the most delicious cuts of meat I've ever tasted in my life--cooked to perfection (I like a deep pink medium rare). Nicely charred on the outside, not greasy, tender inside, and an astounding house made sauce. The polenta cakes (I forgot to snag a picture before we'd already dug in) were my favorite side--rich and delicious. Highly recommend. The fried cauliflower was also delicious, but a bit heavy for me (my fiancée loved them though!). For dessert, we got the peach cobbler. It was delicious! I'd have loved a bit more ice cream, but no complaints. There's a hint of lemon. Best meal in a while! read more

Service was good nothing too special, but the FOOD... wow. You definitely have to share with someone though. So first, you get complimentary warm house rolls with delicious salted butter, then we ordered our starter, the Spiced Pear salad. If I could give 10 stars for this salad I would. The dressing, the cinnamon on the warm pear wedges, the pomagranate and almond crunch, and bitter notes of feta altogether created a salad I will be dreaming about for weeks. Now the protein - we ordered the Chicken & Dumplings. Loved it! Chicken was seasoned and cooked to perfection, the dumplings were doughy and delicious, and the sauce was buttery and perfect to dip each bite in. Our starch was the Barley Parsley Risotto. My first few bites were amazing! The mushrooms in it were so yummy. The more I ate it I decided I wouldn't get it against just because it was super heavy and creamy to go with the food we already had. Would recommend though if you're craving a good risotto. Our vegetable was the Maple Glazed Squash. Simply incredible. It was sweet with hints of salty melted butter on top, with a some cream-like paste underneath. It was amaaaazing! Overall, 10/10. My wife and I walked in last Friday for lunch as my wife had heard many wonderful things about the restaurant and food. To our disappointment we stood in the front for 5 minuted with NO ONE to greet us or even acknowledge us waiting. The restaurant looked busy, and no waiter to see us to any seat, I had to ask the chef where the server was and he had no idea. So when I told my wife that, we patiently waited again, and then the server who eventually sees us, and says to us rudely "Come back in 30 minutes"! Not even a "hello sorry we're busy can you please come back in 30 mins," it was rude and literally NO customer service! We will never return. read more
