Food: 1. Both pizza flavors: crust thin and good, not oily, flavor for meat and veggie good in their own right 2. Bagel sandwiches (aioli and salmon): not a huge bagel fan in general but w/this place I am. Everything bagel, toasted to perfection, their is this veggie cream they use yum! And avocado slices fresh, both sandwiches have a nice flavor overall. Pricing on food is what you would expect for a somewhat chill but fancy place. Ambiance: it's bright, light, not too overbearing, like the fresh flowers and plants too! There is a back patio. The decor reminds me of Anthropologie (the store) if it were a cafe Service: not over the top, not bad. When you want a table clean or have questions they answer/do it. I'm not rating their coffee/tea as I don't order it on the regular so I don't feel I could give an accurate review. I come here for the food and ambiance. Thanks Communal! read more

This place is absolutely horrible. We waited 45 minutes for TOAST!! The hot coffee came luke warm. Overpriced. How the heck is it getting so many stars. The interior is nice and great ambiance but come on.... food sucked. You can get ambiance anywhere. Please, please save yourself the hassle and go to anywhere else . read more

What's not to love about Communal's OSide location? I was already a fan of their North Park location and was thrilled when I saw the Oceanside location opened exactly where I was looking to cowork one afternoon. Service was quick and I think you can order online in advance here like you can at their other locations. They have a variety of seating in the main area, both outdoor and in their open air indoor environment. Then if you go around the corner you'll find a large shaded patio. It felt private and was perfect for our afternoon. I didn't check for outlets, but they did have good wifi available throughout. The coffee is great. I enjoy their always changing custom/seasonal flavors so I can try something new every visit. You can even get a coffee flight. I love browsing their gift shop and they have flower arrangements being created onsite which only helps set the vibe. I'm a fan and look forward to my next visit! read more

I personally just love this place because it reminds me of when me and my husband lived in both North Park and South Park San Diego and coincidentally lived walking distance less than a block away from both communal coffee shops lol Brings back happy memories. ANYWAY, I was so ecstatic when I found out there was one opening in my new hometown of Oceanside and had to make a stop. The food menu is much more abundant nowadays and does not disappoint when it comes to the flavors. It's a bit pricey but worth it in my opinion. So far the staff at this location have been super nice and professional. Will be coming back again and again because of the memories lol I also just want to try every single food item on the menu . Everything looks so delicious. read more

Our threesome had a vegan breakfast sandwich, smoked salmon toast, a croissant and a kids steamed milk for $40. The breakfast sandwich was decent but small, the salmon toast was lackluster at best, the croissant was asked to be heated up but then they forgot to bring it out while it was hot so it was both cold and had lost its freshness. I hate to complain about price these days as everything is expensive but the lack of substance/ingredients we experienced here was kind of a double whammy. read more

I really want to like Communal Coffee. I'm a customer there ... but I've often walked away feeling like they act a bit too big for what they offer. The coffee is no better than some of the other choice coffee bars along Coast Highway. And it certainly doesn't make up for the mediocre food and uninterested attitude. I've gotten the snooty attitude from the baristas before. But today was the last time. I went in for beans which they were out. WTF ! So, I ordered my espresso mocha and then sat and waited looking at an abandoned espresso machine for the next 5 minutes. When I approached the barista asking if someone was going to be making coffee, I got full attitude and the reply, "there are other people waiting before you". Umm ... that just makes your service even worse. I got my refund. Customer service is important in the SERVICE industry. C'mon Communal, you can do better. 2 star review - Earned read more

Five stars with a caveat. Absolutely go here for the amazing food, drinks, and surprisingly smart choice of music. Love all that. Be warned that mid-morning weekdays (9:30-ish) seem to be family time when moms in yoga pants pushing bulky strollers and towing screaming toddlers descend on the place. Unless you have noise cancelling headphones, this is not the best time to work inside. Plan accordingly and enjoy this O'side treasure. read more

Pleasant surprise! Absolutely love the LEMON ALMOND LATTE with oat milk ! Similar to lemon cookie but also get some marzipan notes. So original and nothing like what I have had up to this date (as an avid coffee shop goer). Next time I would love to try the latte flight! But only if someone else is with me cause. I'll convince them.....nothing will stop me from returning to that lemon latte. It will be hard to study elsewhere when in Carlsbad. Makes me not want to try any other new places ! read more

Service is good. Staff is nice and welcoming. Unfortunately they are a cashless venue (even though cash is legal tender) but will accept cash tips ‍. They do have gluten free options. I felt like this place was okay. I was really impressed by the reviews and pictures. I will say there are a lot of local merch. Incredible latte. Incredible bagel with creme cheese. Kind employees. Very very busy on a Saturday morning. Line was out the door. Dog-friendly + outdoor seating. Cute aesthetic + many cute things and fun plants. I did not plan to plant shop, but left with a new rubber plant. Their pots are display only, but amazing plant store next door where you can find MORE plants and pots. The coffee shop is also conectad to the cutest flower shop. Was very good for my soul. Even met a cute pup. read more

Great location, good coffee and delicious avocado toast. Also fun shop to buy gifts.

What a gem of an place! I'm so glad I came by. It's an excellent location to get work done with ample tables, outlets, and natural lighting. The indoor seating is spaced well and the outdoor seating shared a deck with the restaurant next door, but is sectioned off. The staff seems friendly and the items sold are beautiful. The kitchen items and drinks are yummy, but you are truly paying for the ambiance and atmosphere of the place - which I didn't mind too much. I would come back here just to get out of the house to read a book or to meet a friend for a coffee. read more

This is such a cute, vibey coffee shop. I've been to the north park location, but I think this one might be better. There's not a ton of seating indoors, but there's more tables outside so finding a spot wasn't hard. The coffee is good, the shop has a lot of cute trinkets (nothing that I felt like buying lol but still fun to look), and the inviting atmosphere makes me feel like I could post up with a laptop and spend several hours here. If I lived in Oceanside, I'd definitely be a regular at this location read more

This place is so cute! I had heard of Communal and it was a meeting point for a friend of mine in Orange County to come down so we decided ro check it out. I was so impressed they had so many gluten free things on their menu! I got the Avocado Toast on gluten free bread and it was so good! I also got the Vanilla Latte which was delicious as well. I love their little plant shop on the side and the space is light and airy. There are no high chairs as a FYI so bring a stroller if your kids are little. Looking for a quaint spot for a breakfast bite. Super cute place with trinkets for sale...walk up ordering..there is seating inside and outside and a small 6 person bar top. I was greeted with a smile from the person who took my order. I checked out the menu ahead of time and decided on the maple sausage breakfast sandwich. It was Ahhhmazing! Just the right amount of sweet vs salty. The English muffin was toasty on the outside, the cheese was melted onto the maple sausage and the egg was perfectly cooked. I will definitely be back. read more

Decided to give the Oceanside location another try today. Likewise to my previous experience at this location the staff were very unfriendly and made me feel unwelcome. Very disappointed with the Oceanside location. I am a long time customer of communal and I will continue to support. I really hope that the management will address these issues with the staff. It's very disappointing going somewhere you love and it being ruined by negative interactions with staff. read more

This place is one of my favorite places. The coffee is amazing and the ambiance is stunning. If I could add ONE thing, one of my favorite things about coffee shops are the people that work there. They set the tone of the place. But here, the baristas that usually work in the morning are moody and don't really smile. And that's fine, like we can't always by happy and chipper, but just remember that. You're setting the tone of the place. And if you're like "ehhh" the whole vibe of the shop will be that way. Just food for thought. read more

Coming from Portland, I'm giving this place a 4/5 for their coffee. I found myself here 4 times in one week as I was working remotely and needed a coffeeshop with strong WiFi. From those 4 times and quite a few cappuccinos later, I'd recommend that they train some of their baristas a little more as a few of my cappuccinos were, well, interesting. One I watched a new gal who was training pour in way too much steamed milk into a latte sized glass, realize that it was too big of a size, and re-pour it into a smaller glass, losing the crema and all of the microfoam on top. However, on my last day there, I had a different barista make my drink and the cappuccino was wonderful! That said, the atmosphere, pastries and food were amazing and deserve a 5 star rating because it's a lovely spot. There is plenty of seating available and outlets are plentiful for those looking to plug in their laptop chargers and get some work or studying done. read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon for a pickmeup and was pleasantly surprised by how lovely this place was. The decor and atmosphere are pretty and calming. Thai makes a great study or working spot. The service was polite and friendly and they did a great job recommending options for us. We ordered the matcha lemonade and the coconut cold brew. The matcha lemonade was pretty sour. The matcha flavor was super light. I would pass on this drink. On the other hand the coconut cold brew was lovely and I would have this drink again! read more

Communal is definitely adorable - but there isn't a ton of substance. Coffee and tea is fine, but nothing extraordinary. I've had the mint cold brew, various flavored lattes, and matcha. I'm a HUGE mint fan, and I hate to say it, but the mint wasn't as punchy as I wanted. The vanilla bean is tasty, but the syrups are too sweet in my opinion (half sweet is an option though!). Staff has always been friendly and the place surely is Instagramable. Nice place to meet friends with lots of natural light in the best city on earth. read more

Communal is a cute shop by Bagby (another great spot). My husband and I were crusin' after dinner on night, when he showed me a ton of new shop that just opened up. We saw communal and said "Coffee?". Yes, please! I love how open this space is. There is a ton of seating and when the weather is right, all of the windows are open. Which makes for a more comfy environment. They have a decent sized menu with a ton of options with some vegan items too, which I love! Their coffee is really good, smooth yet strong. I like that their flavors arent your standard sugar filled vanilla or caramel. They have: vanilla bean, salted caramel and rose vanilla or honey lavender if you're into that. In front is also a cute little shop with a ton of items. Candles, earings, cups, blankets, etc. Attached, is also a cute flower shop. Communal has really thought of everything. I have been in a few times and well as worked from my laptop in house and their customer service is very very nice. Everyone there is super friendly and it seems like a chill place to be. read more

Great place to study, work, or catch up with a friend. Wifi is pretty fast and free, coffee tastes great, and there is lots of windows open, allowing in natural light along with a cool breeze from the beach nearby. The employees here are very friendly and the food smells so good. There's tons of street parking available nearby as well. Adorable coffee shop! Looks like a cool vibe to work from. Love the items to browse/shop. A plant lovers haven. I got tea instead of coffee and the flavor was wonderful. So why 3 stars? I should do 3.5 but rounded down. First, I ordered a breakfast sandwich and waited 15 minutes for it (it was not crazy busy either). Second, it was the wrong sandwich!
