I had my f150 towed to Commonwealth because it had died following my replacement of plugs and coils in a 3.5l engine at 175k miles. It turned out that one coil had shorted causing electrical issues and eventually we also recognized low compression on one bank, and that led to a diagnosis of timing belt slippage, bent valves and a replacement engine. Raoul found a used engine (50k miles) to save me money and when he put that in it had similar problems to the original engine. Raoul pulled that engine and got another. I received the truck yesterday and I am impressed, the company was fair about the pricing, taking my concerns into account, didn't try to nickel and dime me, and warranted his work and parts for a year. More than I expected for a used engine. It was expensive, but not what I imagined as the various problems continued to cascade. I used to do most of my own work, but engines are more sophisticated now and you need a garage that does good work, doesn't rip you off, and is personable. I have been a loyal customer of Joyce Koons Honda dealership for the past 12 years. However, earlier this week, service account manager, Mark, told me that the spool valve in my Honda Pilot was leaking significantly and needed to be replaced. I got a second opinion since the price he quoted me was 60% more than any other place I got a quote from. I took my vehicle to CommonWealth Garage in Springfield, VA, which came highly recommended. They quoted me $568.16. They checked the spool valve and said that it is functioning perfectly fine. It was not leaking! I had them check it again & again. They said, no leak! Koons Honda would have charged me $1300 for something that would cost 60% less, and was not leaking. That's not loyalty on their part. That's disloyalty and deception at the highest degree! To think just how much money I've wasted at Koons Honda?! At Commonwealth Garage, Raul, was incredibly respectful, upfront, trustworthy, and helpful. He communicated with me every step of the way and he was only a text or phone call away every time I needed to speak with him. He even came yo my house to pick up the correct key to my car in order to save me a trip to the shop. I almost don't want to do this review. Mike and team are just that good... I don't want this place to get "discovered" so that I have to wait in line to get service! I've worked on cars all my life... From engine rebuilds to regular maintenance and I'm always terribly suspect of anyone I let wrench on any of my cars. Invariably most grease monkeys will screw something up. Not so with Mike and his guys. Sure, the first couple of trips I was worried as I was getting to know the garage but now? I don't even give it a second thought if I need work on my car. Mike and his crew to it right, are honest and charge an extremely reasonable price. But even as important, when something goes wrong (which happened once in all the times I've brought my car there and it was minor), the guys own up to it remove the problem with no drama and ultimately 100% stand behind their work. I highly recommend them. I have used this repair center twice. Once for transmission work on my 2001 Dodge truck and most recently for a hard to find clunking that was happening on my 1995 Lincoln Towncar. I am very familiar with this vehicle and was all over it looking for the problem before I talked to Raul and left it with him. At first, I got the same answer as everyone else gave ... it is the suspension system, airbags ... shocks ... springs .... somewhere there. He invited me down to show me, introduced me to the mechanic that was working on the car and he showed me a level of interest that I have not seen much of. When I told him that they hadn't found the problem, he asked if we could take a ride. As so as he heard the noise, he knew something else was wrong. We told Raul and he wanted to go for a ride too. My colleague referred me to this garage after he had transmission issues. A garage up the street suggested a used transmission to him for about 3K, so he got a 2nd opinion at Commonwealth. They told him he didn't and that it could be repaired for 1700. In my case, I had my transmission rebuilt for roughly 3100. I felt reassured after speaking to the owner on what was needed to be done and the cost was fair and reasonable. My transmission has been working well on my 190,000 mile.
