I've had a lot of work done on two different vehicles here. In the summer of 2025, my Honda pilot needed a new timing belt. When I got the car back after $5500 worth of work, it didn't seem to be running quite right. I gave it a little bit and then started noticing an oil leak. I brought it back in and they reluctantly agreed to keep it to look it over. I didn't get a call back so they next day I called them and they told me "oh, we found a slipped seal so we fixed it, nothing we did wrong". Ok, cool. But my car was still not acting right and felt like it wasn't getting enough gas or power at first start up. It literally stalled on me twice when I first started it shifting into park. . I brought it back again and after convincing them to take a look at it, they told me nothing was wrong with the vehicle. They basically told me that looking over it would be a waste of their time and that the computer system takes a little while to catch up once "that much work" is done on a vehicle. Ok. Well, I guess I feel after that extensive of engine work, it should not be stalling out on me without explanation. So no, I will not be going back and will not recommend this place. I've had a lot of work done at this place. This summer I had my timing belt and pistons replaced on my 2012 honda pilot after several conversations with them. Once I got my vehicle back, it didn't quite feel right. After a little bit, I noticed an oil leak. When I brought it back to the shop, they asked if I could tell the difference between water and oil *eye roll* after hesitating, they agreed to keep the vehicle to check it over. When I didn't get a call back, I called them the next day and they said there was in fact a leak, that a seal had slipped, but not because they had done anything wrong... ok cool. I got my car back, but it was still not running correctly. It felt like it wasn't getting enough power at initial start up and felt like it wanted to stall. On two separate occasions had actually did stall, once while idling after putting it into park and once while in reverse. I brought the car back and they deny anything is wrong with the vehicle. Not sure why my car is stalling now, but according to the mechanic, nothing is wrong with it, even though this wasn't happening prior to all the work they put into the vehicle and after I spent a lot of money to have it worked on.... I'm not sure I would recommend this place, even though it was recommended to me. read more

I made a 5:30 PM drop-off appointment for an emissions inspection at this place knowing they close at 5:30 PM and I'd have to pick up my car after work the following day. I dropped off my car around 5:20 PM and went outside to wait for my ride. One of the employees saw me waiting and asked if I'd rather stay a few extra minutes and have them knock out my emissions inspection right then. I gladly agreed and was out of there shortly after. This kind act (which made more work for them at the end of the day) saved me time, an additional trip the next day, and allowed me to run other errands that night since I didn't have to go without my car. They do take appointments but were able to squeeze me in one day when a last minute repair was needed the day before a trip. They are very pleasant, reasonably priced and honest. They give you a detailed list of needed repairs (along with pictures) and let you know how urgently the repair is needed. This place dosent even rate a star. I took my vehicle in to get the low beam headlights looked at and it turned out I had the incorrect bulbs. So I said can you replace them. They sold me the bulbs I needed and the cost was $49.90 plus some bullshut charge of shop supplies and data for $16.47 on top of a freaking hazardous material charge of 3.90. That's not the worst of it. They had to replace 3 bulbs and charged me $27.37 for each bulb they replaced. Yes 3 x's. If I would have known that I was getting screwed I would have never told them to replace the bulb. That's just freaking ridiculous.DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO ADVANCED AUTO TECH IN NEWINGTON. On top of that I am a veteran and he did give me 10% but the charges were unreal. DONT RECOMMEND!!! read more

I've been coming here for about three years now. I just had my factory scheduled service and one repair on my 2009 VW Jetta. Everything went well, including the repair. The communication was excellent before (scheduling), during, and after the service was performed. No surprises or go-backs. Price was reasonable. Have gotten many things done to my vehicle here and have been very happy. BUT... Most recently, I got a long laundry list of items serviced on my vehicle. Amongst them were an A/C service and a Battery service. The day I payed my nearly $3,000 balance my car broke down because of a bad battery connection! They made my pay for the tow and re-service of the battery!!! -Mistakes happen and I was okay with this as they really are a group of good guys... ...BUT then I left the shop the second time and turned my A/C on and it was blowing hot air!!! This time i was not so happy when they tried to charge me another $250 to fix this!! Couldn't they have at least tested the A/C after performing the original A/C service?? I haven't taken it back since, I am feeling financially taken advantage of and the car has been making a grinding sound since the last service. read more

Man oh man, I took the scenic tour of NoVA Emissions Inspection Locations that WON'T service specific vehicles... and fortunately, that wonderful tour ended at Advanced Auto Tech. I pulled up to their bay out of exhaustion and frustration because not one single person would roll my lowered vehicle into their shop (fair enough, I wouldn't want that liability either). Lookin' like death (shower didn't happen that morning unfortunately), I yelled over the sounds of torque wrenches "WILL YOU GUYS DO EMISSIONS ON MY LOWERED VEHICLE?!" ... split second wait, "Yeah, sure - park 'er over there." SWEET LORD JESUS BLESS THEIR SOULS. Front desk guy (owner?) was nice as day and had the whip in and out in ... dare I say it... 30 minutes or less? My goodness, what miracle workers doth this place employ!? Also, their blessed souls had a fully stocked fridge of adorable complimentary mini-sodas for people in the waiting room (as a diet coke addict, I can appreciate this very much). Great clean facility. Small operation. Had one car alignment done here. Was happy with the service and up front pricing. Didn't feel like I was being upsold anything. After seeing countless 2.5 star reviews for most shops/dealers in the area, I made an appt with AAT and approached with caution. I was greeted with a genuine, honest service advisor and team. Was even offered a free alignment check on a second car so I took my other car in the next day. Even though some specs of my alignment on the second car were a little off, Ben the service advisor assured me it's still OK and to save my money for a later date when the alignment was totally out of whack. Question: Since when do you get a shop that turns down work? Answer: When you're a shop like AAT that does good honest work and gives professional recommendations instead of just being worried about max dollars per day. Most places don't understand this. Honesty in the world of auto repair (in this instance turning away work when they could have used scare tactics to recommend the alignment) may not give a shop max dollars that day but it can earn them a lifetime customer and most likely help to grow the business through word of mouth referral. The shop itself doesn't present as high-end or attractive by any means but its customer waiting area is pretty decent featuring changeable cable tv, a mini-frig with cold drinks, and free wifi with 23M/12M speeds. However, a tire/wheel/alignment job that should've taken 2 hrs instead took 4 hrs with no explanation, none. Also, my request to put the old wheels/rims in the new ones' boxes was ignored/forgotten until I was ready to leave. I don't know what's happening to tradesmen/craftsmen today but they're not getting better through training, education, and better tools/systems. You have to be more involved in their supervision than anyone should ever have to be. read more

I recently had to drop our car off for unexpected maintenance on the morning we were planning to begin a 2,000 mile drive to Utah. After diagnosing the problem, Ben called with the results and estimate. I cleared the work and Ben said the car would be ready by Noon. I have a CUSTOMIZED SHOW CAR which isnt always easy to work on being that it has been extensively modified with after market parts. After talking on the phone with the owner of the shop about having my in the tank fuel pump assembly replaced on my vehicle which has been garage and not driven or started since August. They were kind enough to coordinate the pick-up and towing of my vehicle to there shop has I travel alot I was not able to be there for the tow company. they were nice enough to charge my battery for me seeing how the vehicle had been sitting for that long and it was dead. The repair was done in a timely matter, completed in the time frame specified and to my extreme satisfaction has the part used to replace my factory unit was of a superior quality and it also corrected an annoyance in my remote start has the original pump did not build sufficient fuel pressure to properly start the engine without hitting the remote start twice. I would of given 5 stars but I am ALWAYS TOTALLY HONEST and they forgot to reattach my front splash guard (unrelated to actual repair) which they stated the would for me but did offer to do it after I realized It was still in the backseat and came back to inquire about it. Great experience. I took my car in to get aligned after I noticed uneven wear on one of my tires. They called me and said they did an alignment check and the alignment is within specs. They also said my tires are cupping a little and recommend a cross-axle rotation. They asked if I wanted a balance too and I agreed. So I went in to get a $94 alignment and left paying way less on a balance and rotation. Plus.. they dropped me off at home after I dropped off the car in the morning. 15 minute drive each way. They offered to pick me up too, but I declined as my wife could drop me off to pick it up. Also, I asked the customer service rep for an unusual request. I had a pic of a truck front differential on my phone that was showing signs of leaking. The steering dampener also looked like oil was leaking out of it too (which threw me off). I asked him for a ballpark quote. He quickly quoted me a VERY reasonable quote for the diff leak and then pointed out what was above the steering dampener....... the oil filter. Makes perfect sense. He was fairly certain that the oil filter (during oil changes would drip) was causing the dampener to look like it was leaking. He could have taken my lack of knowledge on steering dampeners and replaced it, but he didn't. I'll be back. read more
