I brought my car to Lorton Auto after KIA Woodbridge said I needed back brakes to the tune of $509 on 7/18. My brother said that was pricey & to check with another place or bring it to his shop. I emailed Lorton Auto and they said my brake pads were good when they did my saftey inspection in December. i should not need brakes. I brought my car in 8/3. Lorton Auto brought me out to my car and showed me my brakes pads. They showed me with the measuring tool. I had more pad in the back than the front but both were good. They did a 50 point inspection that contradicted multiple things i paid KIA to do on 7/18 that KiA did not do. This is a trust worthy shop. Again they showed me. My car was where I could see it. They explained in detail & showed me the reading & meter that my brake fluid had 4% moisture. I paid KIA $200 + on 7/18 to do my brake fluid change. Lorton Auto is place from now on. Here I know my car will get good honest care. Here they show me what my car needs and don't try to scam me to make money. read more

This is my second time coming to this shop. Overall, I have been happy with the price and service that you get here. I will lower my rating by 1 star. After looking at my bill, they have a credit card processing fee. When you are paying for auto service, it seems a bit petty to charge a credit card processing fee on top of that. My tire was leaking air and I was having trouble filling up my tank so I searched on Yelp and found Lorton Auto. Their website was easy to navigate and I was able to schedule an appointment in no time. The gentleman upfront was honest and told me it would take a little longer for them to diagnose the fueling issue due to the upcoming holiday so I opted to have my tire fixed for now. And in no time my car was pulled to the garage and, within minutes, they were able to patch up a hole I failed to locate after multiple attempts. Lorton Auto did a fantastic job and the staff were extremely friendly and honest. This was my third time visiting Lorton Auto. This particular time, Julio was the mechanic that worked on my car. Based on his assessment, I needed brakes and rotors.... badly. He ordered the necessary parts, which arrived the same day. He made the necessary repairs and was timely. He was thorough, used care when working in my car (protected the carpeting) and explained everything in detail. The shop was clean, the waiting room was comfortable and all of the mechanics seem to enjoy working there....which is a nice change from your typical shop vibe. I've taken my vehicle for a simple oil change. After servicing the vehicle. They recommended I do a power sterling flush and brake flush. Two weeks later. My engine light came on. I opened the hood to check if the oil was fine. Come to find out that they let the power steering cap completely open and it was completely empty. This is the first and last time I go there. Never had such a bad customer service and work service at the same location. And while waiting on my vehicle to be serviced. Another customer walked in stating that her engine light came on after they serviced her vehicle. Not sure what kind of business they're doing here, but you're better off taking your vehicle somewhere else and safe yourself the headache and extra expenses! read more

Took my 2014 Jeep Wrangler JK (V6 / 3.6L), 73.000 miles, in for repairs. John addressed the issues with me in detail and explained the cost estimate. I'm well-versed in vehicle maintenance; John was honest and accurate with the needed repairs. Maintenance- The Oil Cooler Housing Unit was replaced, both valve covers, intake manifold gaskets, spark plugs, PCV Valve, engine coolant, oil changed, and a couple other small things. All added up to ~ 4K. From start to finish, this experience was top notch, no issues, on time and the repairs were done correctly. When I had a leak in my windshield from an improper windshield replacement done by another company, Lorton Auto helped me figure out exactly what was wrong and what steps I should take to get it taken care of, including sending me pictures I could use in my claim against the windshield company. I have serviced my vehicles here 3 times. 1st time - brought a motorcycle for safety inspection, they did not know how to do it. Fair enough, not something they specialize in... 2nd time - brought car in for alignment and checkup, trip was neither great nor negative. Prices we're fine. 3rd time - brought car in for assessment. No problem dropping off unscheduled. This is the part that irritated me... Once the assessment was completed I got a phone call and the technician gave me a very minimal explanation of the problem I dropped the car off for which was going to cost over $1k to fix and proceeded to upsell a bunch of crap I didn't need nor want. Additionally, I was told I needed a new engine air filter, I literally replaced it myself the week prior. Stop lying to customers to make extra $$. Great fast service. Engine light was on and truck was running rough, AutoZone code reader diagnosed O2 sensor. Lorton Auto rightfully had to do their own diagnostics, for $135...seems excessive for the 10 minutes it takes to plug into the vehicle and then to a computer to determine the fault. Then charged $135 for labor, not based on how long it actually took, but what their book says it should take to replace the part. Then charged $270 for a part that is $164 MSRP and available online for $105. I appreciate the fast service here, but feel they overcharge for labor and parts. read more

I had a very disappointing experience at this shop. I searched for a mechanic and based on the yelp reviews i decided to give this shop a try. I initially went in to replace my brakes and rotors, but the shop told me i needed my shocks replaced (which i did not notice any issues with prior) and a sway bar. I did not intend to spend $3k for repairs but this being my only car i decided it was important and went with it. After the repair I have had nothing but issues. Immediately I noticed a thud sound when i was driving off and a knocking on my front wheel. I called them immediately after and scheduled to bring it back. I brought it back in and they left my car there all day without checking on it. When i came to pick it up they told me they forgot about it and rushed to do a quick check and told me it was just a tire lock moving around in the trunk. It didn't make much sense to me but since i believed they were the experts I didn't question it. After driving it home i noticed the same thud sound and knocking on my front wheel. I called them back and scheduled another appt. This time they said it was due to the drive shaft, which was not an issue prior to bringing it here. They quoted me another $1k for the repair and nothing was mentioned regarding the knocking sound around the sway bar. This was very frustrating and i decided to look into it more and decided to take it to another shop for a second opinion. I also was looking online and found that if the mechanic is not careful when replacing the shocks the drive shaft boot can be damaged. I called the shop back and told them the issue and how disappointing this experience has been. I spent $3k for repairs i didn't even know i needed, only to have more problems than when i initially brought the car in for repair. They were nice about it and asked me to bring it back in for a 3rd time but I no longer have faith in their mechanics. I will be taking it elsewhere but again i am very frustrated with the experience and the money this has cost me. I do not recommend this shop. read more

Our car is under GM warranty, so we ended up getting it towed to GMC, they charged us for diagnostics. We ended up there for 6 hours waiting on the tow truck. The guy at the front was so nice to us. Initially I had come in for an oil change, brake inspection (included with the oil change), and for them to diagnose my AC problems. The oil change went smoothly, the inspection resulted in them fixing a creaking noise coming from my vehicle which I am grateful for, and finding out that my brakes were in healthy condition. I rate two stars for the prompt service and thorough inspection that I was given. However, upon diagnosis of my AC, I was told I needed a new condenser for it was leaking. My specific vehicle, it's an easy job. 2 hours tops, contradictory to what I was told by the mechanic, who claimed it was a "very labor intensive job". I was quoted $1,600 to replace my AC condenser and recharge it. I consulted other shops and was told that I was being robbed of my money. I went to an auto-parts store, bought a factory condenser and did the job myself in 2 hours. The next day, I took it to a different auto-shop located in Occoquan and had it vacuumed and recharged in an hour. Additionally, the shop I took my vehicle to, to be recharged, quoted me $650 for the SAME procedure that Lorton Auto quoted me. Please do research and consult other shops before believing what one shop tells you. You just might end up saving hundreds like I did. I came here for an oil change and tire rotation based on the deal they have online. My car unfortunately runs on synthetic oil so the deal didn't apply to me however you would think they would still let the tire rotation be included--they did not. Also I am allergic to feathers and they have a PET bird in the waiting area. WHY?! It was in its cage when I first arrived but later one of the employees decided the bird belonged on her shoulder. Thank GOD I took an allergy pill that morning. Also the bird is super noisy so if you come here I suggest not waiting for your car. They also put the wrong amount of mileage for next oil change (any place I have gone to does 7500 or 10,000). I am not paying more for 5,000 miles... Awful service. I went there for an a/c system diagnosis and was told that they would need to recharge the system for $240 dollars and this did not include the diagnosis. I was the first and only one in the shop as i went there early. I decided to take my car somewhere else. I drove 2 miles away and got everything i needed done for $125 from another certified mechanic. Save your time and money, go somewhere else. There are plenty of certified mechanics with quality service and great customer service skills. Shop around before deciding on this place, you won't be disappointed. Update The owner responded below soon after my posting, I just wanted to clarify that the place i went offered the same service he now described (explanation was not given when i was there) and at a lower cost. I was not given a description of the service at lorton auto, i was told we won't touch it unless we recharge it and that is $240. My advice is still the same, shop around and look for better prices. A cheaper or lower price does not mean that you will have to take your car back again. It can also mean competitors in the area have better prices perhaps because lorton auto have higher overhead/operational costs. This is not about making a quick buck as he said below, it is about making a wise, informed decision when choosing where to perform your car repair. I had an emergent issue come up with my car and was not sure if it was a mechanical issue or if it was a tire issue. Rich walked out with me to the parking lot to take a look and deduced it was my tire- then gave me places to go get my tires done. There is no hourly labor rate for work done. Work that takes only 30 minutes can have a labor rate of $100+ which is far beyond any dealer or gas station labor rate. I did not get work done because of the estimates being given being extremely unreasonable. Rest assured this is the correct business and location. Pricing in this industry is based on reliability, quality of work and warranty. To some extent, customer service sure. But if you're charging prices far beyond gas stations or dealerships, what exactly are people getting in exchange for that? The warranty is a 1 year 12,000 mile warranty I believe? The parts used are aftermarket/alternative parts, not for instance Acura's branded parts. So there can't be any justification for the prices that are offered. It's nice to have customer service, it's nice to be a smaller shop and provide a more personalized experience compared to a larger dealer or gas station shop. But that doesn't make up for charging more whilst offering a lesser warranty and lesser parts. read more

I was totally scammed by Jiffy Lube but Lorton Auto SAVED THE DAY! In July 2019, I took my car to Jiffy Lube in Springfield, Virginia, for an oil change. I've double-checked my receipt and paid $149 for an oil change, tire rotation, and replacement filters. On Friday, 4/24/20, I was driving home from picking up our CSA, and my car began to shudder. It was jerking, and suddenly the check engine and emergency brake light turned on. Today I took it to a trusted mechanic (Lorton Auto) and quickly received a call that my engine was ceasing and the oil was sludge. The only possible explanation is that Jiffy Lube didn't actually change my oil. Luckily Lorton Auto caught it, and I'll have my car back tonight. Thank you John, Christian and the Lorton Team! Fee to diagnose problem was $135, which seemed reasonable and an additional $300 for repair, also seemed reasonable. Apparently fixed the problem, but a day later found out it was not. They told me to bring it back in and they would take a look. Did not tell me there would be another diagnostic charge. Said it would cost another $800 to fix the problem. I declined. Charged me an additional $135 for 2nd diagnostic. So, I paid over $500 and problem was not fixed. read more

Great service! I went in super last minute and received an oil change and 40+ point check in about 40 min. Conveniently located and they even offer to drive you to locations up to a few miles while your car gets serviced. I've rarely heard of places doing that. I waited in the nice waiting area, drank some coffee and did work while I waited. Others were waiting with laptops and books or reading one of the 20+ magazines they had for people to read.
