Would not recommend this shop for a state inspection. When re-inspecting a previously failed vehicle, they found additional issues that were not disclosed in the first report. They did not take the time to talk through the issues found, and gave a quote that was excessively high. If you get a quote from them, ask around to see if others would be able to do it for less. If you fix the issues found in an initial inspection on your own or through a different shop, expect this shop to fail it again for additional issues in an effort to get more money out of you. read more

I have taken 3 different cars here over the past 4 years, and every time I have had a stellar experience. The team here goes above and beyond to help you make an informed decision about your vehicle, including doing an entire free car diagnostic with photos. In addition, when they have had to keep my car over multiple days for service, they are able to offer a loaner vehicle so I'm not without transportation. Disgusting rental car (really old and smelled like smoke). Bait and switch, lack of understanding the car, or poor communication, because they said they'd do one thing and did another. By default they use non-name brand, cheaper fluids. All this and their rates are still really high. Whole experience burned my britches. I paid my first visit to this auto store this morning due to high ratings in yelp, but had a mixed experience: Pros: people are nice and friendly; I got there slightly after 8am and got the safety inspection done within one hour, so the waiting time is ok. Cons: After the inspection, I drove home directly and then I found my car got two scratches (the larger one is about the size of the penny) on the front door at the driver-side, which would cost me much more than the inspection. read more

Trustworthy is the first word that comes to mind with Circle Auto Repair. My car was a repeat visitor and each time they took a very professional approach to diagnosing and communicating with me. My vehicle was having acceleration issues and I took it in to figure out what was wrong. They charged the diagnostic fee and did a thorough look to see what the problem was. They called me and said to come pick up the car because they could not recreate the issue and told me to bring it back in if anything else happened. Sure enough, I picked up the vehicle and it was running completely fine. About 2 weeks later it broke down 50 miles from their location. I called them and they quickly got me the help I needed to tow me and my family back to Fairfax. They took the car in and did not charge me a second diagnostic fee! Visited Circle Auto Repair for the first time for a safety inspection. The inspection took longer than I expected (about 1hr +), I found out why when I called them. They had done a full diagnostic on my car that I had not asked for, with upwards of $5,000 for repairs that were not needed to pass inspection. What bothered me was the individual pricing for some of their services. For example, they were trying to charge over $1,000 for replacing the rear breaks. I have done my research and have done car repairs including breaks myself and I consider this to be severe price gouging. I will not be returning. read more

I went to Circle Auto Repair for a winterizing of my car and have them look at a unknown noise I was hearing. They came back with that the problems with my car was the motor mount. An that I needed to change a number of filters and other things that was wrong with my car (Acura ILX). The bill if I was to get all the work done they recommended would of been over a $1000.00. So I paid them the $120.00 for the winterizing and told them to give me a copy of there report for the recommended repairs and took the car to the Acura Dealer as my car had only 44,000 miles on it. So I wanted to see if any of the repairs that was recommended was under warranty. To my surprise. The Acura Dealership told me that NONE of the things they told me was true. The only thing my car needed was to rotate the tires and that was it and they (Pohanka Acura) charge me only $29.00. Its been along time since a repair shop would throw away their reputation as reputable repair shop to try and swindle me. I would suggest that if you have dealt with this company before. STOP AND NEVER GO BACK. Its probably a safe bet you where charge for repairs that you did not need. Just a suggestion not a fact. But I will never go back to Circle Auto ever again. read more

We have this great old van that has very low mileage and drives like a new car but we lent it to a friend to drive for a weekend then when it came back it started to make all kind of noise and chuckling when driving. Engine light came on too! Our trusted neighbor friend Arthur highly recommended us to go see Zach at Circle Auto in Fairfax to help solve our van problems. Mike and Lena in the office were friendly and professional when we made appointment, Zach was very nice so we left our van for him to diagnose. He came back with a detailed list of the things that are good and passed thing that were ok then a list of recommended urgent care items and also a list of things that will need to be taking care of later. We feel that Zach really takes pride in his work and honest in his evaluation of our van. I called over 20 mechanics in the immediate vicinity to get a high pressure power steering line hose replaced and flushed, and the timing belt replaced, along with the water pump, etc. Circle Auto Repair does not let customers bring in their own parts, and this is the case for most of the region, but I did ask, and tried to get a quote that way too. Circle Auto Repair had the cheapest quote of all places where I would be using their parts, and had the best warranty for parts and labor at 2 years or 24,000 miles instead of 1/12. Because I was in a time crunch, I went with Circle over saving $200 to bring my own parts somewhere. They fit me in at the end of the week and gave me instructions to do the night drop. The street is shady, parking lot is small, but they have a bright light over the door and place for you to drop your keys securely. The next day, I got an automated text message letting me know my vehicle was ready to pick up, and all was well when I arrived. They signed me up for a loyalty rewards program, gave me my warranty information, and sent me on my way. I interacted with both Jeff and Scott (if I recall the names correctly,) and both were honest, helpful, and friendly. I had to get my 5+ year old battery replaced in my car and so I called Circle Auto Repair for an appointment. I talked to Michael and he was able to get me in two days later, only because I would have not been able to make it off work in time the next day to get my battery replaced. He was quick to provide me with a quote and was very pleasant to talk to. My battery was replaced at a fair and decent price and I was done in less than 30 minutes. I was offered coffee and made to feel welcome while I waited for my car to be returned to me. These guys went above and beyond for me and for this I will be recommending them to all my friends and neighbors! While waiting for my battery to be replayed, Jeff saw that my bumper was hanging off the edge on the right side (I had clipped my bumper when I was exiting a garage a couple of weeks ago) he asked if he could hook it up back up with some clips/wires. I said sure, because if not, my bumper would eventually fall off with all the jarring from being driven. Jeff re-aligned and hooked up my bumper somehow and now you can hardly tell it was close to falling off! Afterwards, he just smiled and said it should hold until I can do something about it in the spring after all this crappy winter weather. No extra charge or anything, wow! This is a long overdue review, but Matt & Michael at Circle Auto earned my trust & loyalty from day 1. My previous mechanic suggested I get a bolt changed; that was done, but then my car was still groaning and had metal sheering around the back tires. Turns out the brakes were so worn I ended up needing to replace the whole rotars and brake system [ugh]. Matt and Michael were great about explaining the parts, labor, cost, and timeline for the repairs - and always have been in the 3 years that my car has been serviced there. My car is a 2005 Scion so I've been in for plenty of oil changes and a few big repairs. I never felt pressured to buy into more services than intended. And they give you coupons for the next visit! I decided to go and check it out for myself. I have been coming here ever since. Jeff, Michael, Brian, Matt and the rest of the Circle Auto Repair team have continued to impress me with their honesty, mechanical expertise and all around great personality of everyone that I have met. I have been treated with great respect and care as a customer with Michael taking the time to explain the best course of action for the most affordable price. Circle Auto Repair also has a great coupon and rewards system. In prior visits, they have taken the time to share with me a free multi-point inspection of what needs to be fixed with fair estimates for each recommendation. My husband and I were able to figure out which repairs were more of a priority and which ones we could safely wait to repair at a later date. Never once did we feel like we were pushed into more repairs like you hear about at other locations. However, if there is a repair that needs to be done out of safety reasons, in good conscience, they encourage the repair to be done. For example, my rear brakes were worn past a safe limit and I had them repaired upon recommendation. I also purchased four Toyo tires from Circle Auto Repair. Don't fix your tire here. Two reasons: cost and method. I had a nail in my tire. They charged me $38 and all they did was plug it. Here's the breakdown: $24.97 for labor, $6.80 for the plug, $2.54 "job supplies", and $3.73 "hazmat disposal". There's many things wrong here. Plugging a tire, no matter how you do it, takes ten minutes (and it did), including the time to dismount and remount the tire. So $24.97 is high for labor. I would have expected at least a patch, if not a plug AND patch for that price. Frankly, a simple plug is the quick fix method. A patch is more reliable and safer since its done from the inside of the tire and covers an area larger than the damage area. But, this is Fairfax County, and that is the nature of doing business here. $6.80 for a plug. Anyone can go on Amazon and find a well-reviewed plug kit, which includes all the tools and multiple plugs for less than that. $2.54 for "job supplies" and $3.73 for "hazmat disposal". What? Why? This is where I draw the line and the sole reason why I felt compelled to write this review. This is not a matter cost, but a matter of principle and the feeling/confirmation that I've been ripped off. I'd honestly like to know what these charges were for. Was it for the plunge tool--a virtually indestructible, reusable tool--that I and many other customers have already paid for? And the hazmat disposal. Is that for the nail that was in my tire? Circle Auto, next time, ask your customers: "Would you like to take the nail back home with you or have us throw it out in our "special" trash can for $4?" The only reason I'm giving this place two stars is because they were prompt. It took ten minutes, as it should, to take the nail out and plug it. And while I can't speak to the quality of their other work, I don't think I'll be returning to find out. read more

Amazing, Amazing and Amazing. These days it's very hard to find an auto service that is honest with top notch customer service. This was my third visit to Fairfax Circle Auto and it was nothing short of amazing. Just before the Thanksgiving Holiday I was traveling north on Interstate 95 towards Springfield, Va. I began to hear a devastating screeching and terrifying noise coming from the right rear back end of the vehicle. I pulled over to the shoulder to inspect. I looked under and over and could not find the cause of this excruciating noise. As soon as I resumed driving it started again but even louder. I said to myself this is not good and the first thing that popped into my mind is to head for Fairfax Circle Auto because I had two great experiences with them before. If anybody could find the problem it would be them. To me these guys are on the same level as the NASCAR racing professionals. They really know their stuff. I literally limped in with the car. They greeted me like an old friend and I told them the problem. Without any hesitation they took my car in knowing that they had a busy schedule that day and within minutes they got it on the lift and diagnosed the problem. It was my rear brakes. The brake caliber was literally coming apart which was serviced by another auto service just recently. Not only did these guys fixed another auto service problem and replaced the correct part but did not charge me one penny. Now that's customer service. In addition to being superb mechanics for current vehicles, Jeff and the team are expert at vintage, specialty, antique and muscle cars. I found Circle after I purchased a 1993 Cadillac Allante, a very limited (only 4,670 made) production with Italian bodywork mated to the GM drivetrain. "Whiz" is 27 years old, and no availability of new replacement parts. I needed an independent mechanic who did not have the 3 month waiting list a different vintage shop had quoted me. Before I met them, I saw pictures of 60s Mustangs and Corvettes on the website--I guessed if they could work those, perhaps my Allante would be in good hands. Thorough and completely professional, Circle first did a post-purchase inspection for me. In the 43 years I have owned a series of Mercedes, BMWs, and other Europeans, I have never had such a meticulous, comprehensive and objective report including analysis of the fluids. Collaboratively, we prioritized the list of needed services, and they were completely fair in charges and billing. There was no way for me to be more pleased. Their work was on time, and on budget. Months later, after I started to experience a mysterious, slight coolant leak, my worst fears about problems with the aluminum heads and gaskets (which sometimes happens in 93 Allantes) terrorized my nights. Again, a thorough fluids analysis proved it was not leaking internally. There were no external leaks--perplexing. Expert detectives, they traced the slightest of clues to diagnose minor pinholes that occasionally would leak in a return line of the heating system back of the dashboard. "We will have it fixed for you by tomorrow night" I was told. They didn't need me to try to track down used parts--they thought the effort wouldn't solve the problem--an old corroded part would only end up leaking like the current one. When I picked the car the next day, I asked if they had patched, soldered or taped up the leak. "Oh no, we just fabricated a new line for you, and we improved on the original design by using a metal less likely to corrode and by incorporating a petcock so we can bleed it". Creativity in solving problems, and sophistication to make a part better than the manufacturer, are additional attributes of the Circle team. And I am sure it didn't cost me any more than what GM would have charged for a new part, if there had been one available. They have solved vexing problems with pulldown motors for the convertible top--parts made for no other car on the planet. They have traced, and fixed gremlins in the window switch systems. They crafted a solution to fixing the exhaust system that only cost me hundreds, instead of $2,000+ that I would have had to have spent for a custom job (no new replacement parts available). In every interaction I have had with them, they continuously inspire confidence in their expertise and professionalism. Customer service is superb--the shop runs like a family, and I feel like I am part of it. They are completely digital--texting, email, and digital records (although they always honor my request for a printed receipt for my file--me old school!). They have exhibited the same diligence and care with my spouse's 2010 Mazda 3 Sport. As people--they are community oriented, and service to the community is part of their ethos. I like doing business with people who care for more than themselves. If you want fair, professional, expert care of your car, whether a more recent model, or vintage, I recommend them highly and without reservations of any kind--they have earned my trust because of the excellence of who they are, and how they practice their craft of auto care. read more

Just had new rotors and tires replace by a friend of mine - hence to have peace of mind, just take it to this shop instead of DIY. I had them check them over to make sure everything was okay and I was blown away by how above and beyond they went for me. I was expecting to just hear back on the brakes but they even did a thorough full inspection and gave a detailed report of my entire truck with comments and pictures of what else needed to be serviced. It was also less expensive than if I took it to the dealer to get checked. The mechanic even went over all my questions with me. Every other shop I've been to you only talk to the service rep or front desk person. Family owned is the way to go! I also love how you can see the vehicles being worked on. No guarantee for the repair. I did not have good experience with this Auto Repair place. When I came in and dropped my car, the price seemed very reasonable so I decided to do the repair, however, when I came in to pick my car up I was surprised to discover that it increased from $200 up to $800. The explanation was that they discover another problem which they did not know about. Of course, it is possible but nobody even bother to call and ask if I want to pay that much! So I basically was pushed into more expensive repair. Also it took them way longer to fix my car than they promise because they did not have necessary parts and I had hard time with that too because I specifically agreed to 1-2 hours not the half a day. The problem with my car was fixed and I left. Three months later I start having the same problem again. No need to say I was very annoyed by the whole situation so I went back to Circle Auto Repair. It did not help, they have told me that it cannot be the same problem now and I need to replace some other expensive part in my car and it will PROBABLY resolve my issue. But I know for the fact that I have exactly the same issue which originally brought me to this place. I guess I have to go somewhere else and pay again to fix it, hopefully, my new repair for $800 will last more than three months. read more

They told me the possible routes that we could take in diagnosis/repair, how much it would cost, and what they would be able to do in the time frame that I presented. I went there to have a second opinion for why my car failed inspection and emissions and they corrected what Tire and Auto said needed to be fixed didn't actually need to be fixed.
