Last time I went. It was extremely crowded. No parking, we had to park up hill at the harris teeter. The app did not work or process my order so I had to redo it multiple times. The app never worked so I had to use the ordering machine. The prices are expensive and they forgot a lot of my toppings I ordered but it was too busy for me to even try to ask for them to fix it. I use to love this place but I think it gotten to big for it own good. I feel bad for the staff as it does seem overwhelming and I know they are all trying their best.

I must say, this was an extremely busy place. A bit confusing on the ways to order- phone, self service kiosk, or waiter/waitress. I made a very poor decision as to where to sit. Too crowded and too many people waiting in line for their food gave me anxiety. Service was hit and miss. We were greeted immediately, but it trailed off after that. Most of it was self service. Great sauce selection. Part of our order was missed, had to be remade. What should have been a 30 minute lunch turned into an hour. Great tea and lemonade. Good flavor on the burgers. Juicy and tender. Good food, avoid the people and go around the drive through..

I'm in Boone and today's #ThankYouThursday goes to Come Back Shack! When our student started at App, a co-worker who had graduated from App and knew I liked burgers told me I NEEDED to go to Come Back Shack. We went the next time we were in Boone and have been doing as the name suggests and COMING BACK ever since. They have a unique ordering process where you fill out a paper with your order, customizing your made-to-order burger. Food is always hot, fresh and delicious. Come Back Sauce is a must. I like their loaded fries, sweet potato fries, and shakes. During Covid they remained open, drive thru only. Lines can get long but their drive thru efficiency rivals Chick-fil-A. Drive around the building to access the drive thru line. You will place your order on the side of the building with an employee. When you get to the window you will pay and receive your order. This may have changed but last time I checked you needed to place an order online if you wanted to pick up inside. Employees are always friendly and pleasant. Frequenting Come Back Shack during the 4-1/2 years my child has been at App has been so enjoyable. #TYT Thank you for the smiles, efficiency, great food and memories, Come Back Shack! We will continue to come back to Boone and for burgers even after graduation next month.

Great service and delicious food. Make sure you get the comeback sauce on your fries and burger. Definitely more of a fast food burger as opposed to a sit down place, but impressed by the variety of toppings and fry options. Would recommend for sure! read more

This place is great! Comparable to Five Guys Burgers and Fries (atleast in my opinion). The main difference is you write down and check off boxes of options of what you want on your burger. It's cool, and catchy, but during really busy times may cause a back up! The food was prepared FAST! The service and cleanliness was great! I would recommend this place for sure. Don't be boring and go to a regular fast food restaurant. This place will keep you coming back for more and more! read more

Love this place. The burgers and the fries were hot and fresh. Vanilla shake was very tasty. Priced right. Great casual atmosphere. Everyone I encountered working there was super friendly, courteous and helpful; even holding doors open for guests as they came and went to the back patio. Yum, yum, yum, yum. Even if the line is a bit annoying at times, there is a reason for it being that way. Can't leave Boone without a bite from this local classic. If you're lucky, you're cashier will be the guy who is always super enthusiastic; if not, I've never had a bad staff experience. Ask for extra come back sauce ! The come back sauce is delicious. My burger was pretty good, but not absolutely amazing. It was smaller than I expected as well. My wife's chicken sandwich was better and tastier. The chili cheese fries were meh. The food was good, but not amazing. We were just visiting from out of town, but I think I would come back to try a different burger next time. read more

Not only is the Come Back Shack's food delicious, their service is PHENOMENAL. I was visiting Boone for spring break and left my purse in the restaurant when we stopped before heading home (5 hours away from Boone). I called and they not only sent me my purse back, but it was free of charge AND in perfect untouched condition. I am SO SO thankful for the wonderful service and people that work at this restaurant. Stopped in for a quick dinner after visiting Blowing Rock. Place was packed, but the service was incredibly fast. I had the local beef burger, classic style, with a soft pretzel on the side. The pretzel was excellent, although the cheese dip was terrible - very grainy. The burger was pretty good, and the toppings were fresh. The chili cheese fries were good, too. read more

My granddaughters wanted to go here as they had been before. I am glad they talked me into going. The hamburger was super fresh, nice soft bun and the right amount of lettuce and tomatoes. The French fries are hand cut and wonderful. The service was fast and the staff very pleasant. Will come back on my next trip to Boone. read more

Come Back Shack is a five-star rating waiting to happen. Let's get the negatives out of the way so we can end on a positive note. Logistics! Success can so often be attributed to flow, whether it is the farm to plate, or the flow of customers. When it comes to the layout and flow of customers, CBS gets a zero rating. This place is a nightmare to traverse. Sunday at 2:30 and you have to move as if you're at a nightclub. Being a great steward of the environment requires addressing more than one facet of stewardship. Over-packaging! I'm sitting down to eat and a runner is bringing me my food...yet it's all wrapped up and in a "to-go" bag. Why use locally raised organic beef if you're going to be wasteful on the back-end? The ordering...oh the ordering! You grab a sheet of printed paper and select your order, then hand it to the cashier and pay. Holy hell...who thought this one up? If you think it's more efficient for everyone to have that order ready, why don't you install a couple of touchscreens and let people order and pay that way? Sounds way more efficient than a cashier poking around her own screen to select the 14 toppings each customer chooses, doesn't it? To leave on a positive note, the burgers are pretty tasty. The fries were nice and the Come Back Sauce gets a five from me. I'll give this place a try again, but do yourself a favor and take feedback seriously. Come Back Shack should be a five star experience across the board. Try: The Come Back Sauce for dipping your fries Avoid: The jalapenos on your burger...fresh jalapenos overwhelm every other taste on the burger...even the bacon. Who wants to drown out the taste of bacon? read more

Comparable to five guys, but worlds better. This place is fast paced and always busy, but the food is so good that the fact that the place is always packed doesn't matter. Sauces are made in house, lots of local options, delicious milkshakes and creative burgers. Great for the price. My favorite burger in town. read more

My daughter took us here when we visited her at App State recently. They serve the most tender burger I have ever eaten! Though the restaurant looked small, our party of three had no trouble finding a booth in the open-air venue. We enjoyed the casual atmosphere where guests write orders on printed slips, and deliver them to the cashier who was quite pleasant. After paying, my girls and I enjoyed a quick conversation at the table before a server delivered our food, with names written on each burger (lettuce wraps are available for those who prefer no bun). All enjoyed the abundant, tasty natural French fries and special sauce, yet not one of us was able to finished ours. This restaurant visit was a win all around! read more

When we drove by, and saw that Backyard had closed, we were saddened. When I googled it to find out about it, and saw that it was owned by the owners of what was Backyard, and that it would maintain the great quality we'd always gotten from there, I was excited to try it. And it didn't let us down. Burgers were good, freshly made. Fries were great. Still the great service we'd always gotten at BB. Prices were fair, and I can't complain about anything with it. I love the burgers. I don't know of a better burger in Boone. However, what makes me loyal to this place is one day I was in a situation at work where I found out I needed catering for 130 people in 3 days. I contacted CBS and Elliot was amazing at accommodating our needs. The service with ordering and the day of the event was remarkable. I'm using CBS for all my events now. read more

Awesome place! Stopped by here while on vacation. There are menu sheets where you can choose everything you want on your burger. There are lots of options including a veggie and turkey burger. The chicken tenders were fresh and awesome! Love this place. We'll be back. read more

We stopped in for a quick bite to eat after a recommendation from our zip lining guide. Ordering is easy and not rushed when you use a menu to mark your food order, for first timers anyways. The options seem unlimited for a "fast food" place and the food was good. There were three of us and we all ordered something different and we all enjoyed our food. Two of us really enjoyed the Come Back Sauce and I would recommend everyone to try it, it's on the tables for those who aren't sure. read more

Our second time visiting Come Back Shack and we will continue to go here. It is the perfect spot for a quick dinner. I ordered the double burger with american cheese, chili, the comeback sauce, and all of the typical burger fixings. The burger was juicy and cooked perfectly. The chili was a nice touch and the comeback sauce is a really solid burger/fry sauce. The french fries are tough to beat and everything was hot and fresh! read more

I went with my girlfriend and she really liked it, said it was the best burger she ever had. Because I have cut red meat out of my diet I decided on the veggie burger and I did not like it at all. I couldn't even finish it. But I did enjoy my sweet potato chips! So while I would recommend this restaurant I would definitely not recommend the veggie burger. read more

I am a vegetarian and asked employees if it was vegetarian before I ate it, they told me it was which i now know was a LIE! Delicious burgerz, fresh, great toppings, great shakes, LOVE the half & half, love the fries, love the come back sauce...absolutely love them! 5 Guys would be in major trouble if there were some of these all over. Hands down the best burgers in Boone. They are five guys style burgers, but with many more options for toppings (good quality toppings too). It is also a good feeling to know you're supporting a local business since comeback shack is born in Boone. They offer both regular and locally grown beef (for an upcharge) which is nice, and also have their own comeback sauce which is amazing. A must try for Boone. read more

Mediocre. Definitely nothing special. I could've gone to McDonald's or Wendy's and paid less while enjoying my food more. I ordered my burger on Texas toast, which I expected to be toasted or grilled, but it was just two pieces of plain white bread. The chili wasn't good. My fries tasted like cinnamon, so I guess they had been fried with the sweet potato chips. We definitely won't go back. read more

I'll first say that the burgers here are just really first-rate!! Was referred here by folks in the know about things in Boone, NC and they got it right; best burger in town, which says a lot considering this burger joint is within a block or two of a Five Guys! Now, as for the rest....the layout is not only unorthodox, but quite confusing for just a burger place. You get to either fill out your own "order form" at a single table right in the middle of the very tiny dining area or just tell the cashier; not sure why even bothering to have the former.....odd. For our visit, all 4 orders went in as a single order, but to my consternation they brought out my and my wife's chow but not the children. We ended up waiting another 15min before our kiddies got served b/c (I was told) they "forgot"....yikes! A refund or complimentary-type gesture would have gone much further than a shrug & a semi-apology. read more

We hand-patty 100% USDA ground chuck every day for our burgers and hand-cut our own fries. We make homemade sweet potato chips. We make our sauces, dressings, and chili from scratch. We offer a ton of fresh toppings from the usual stuff to homemade pimiento cheese, baby spinach, and freshly cut avocado. We also offer chicken sandwiches, hand-breaded chicken tenderloins, made-to-order salads, and vegetarian burgers.

My brother Scott and I started Come Back Shack in Boone, NC in 2011. After twenty years as successful franchisees in a regional restaurant chain, we decided it was time to create a new LOCAL restaurant experience that focuses on quality, fresh ingredients in a casual, fun atmosphere. We go to the extra effort to serve the best, tastiest, freshest food to our guests because we know you care about what you eat. Its the kind of food we love, and we enjoy fixing for others. My husband tried two different entrees this time--the Butch Triplett (corned beef and eggs) and their breakfast burrito. Their corned beef is likely from a can, but it's so good because they cook it so it's very crispy. I always steal some of his corned beef to add to my eggs! Their breakfast burrito is amazing. It's simply filled, with just scrambled eggs, cheese, small bits of ham, and hash browns. It's topped with an enchilada sauce that is similar to a ranchero sauce, and is served with sour cream and guacamole. It's a massive burrito, and SO GOOD! My husband said it's his new favorite. Social on Main is popular, and so we always go early (before 8am). After 8am, there is usually a wait--especially on Saturdays. Their servers are always friendly, and the food is delivered fast. Their coffee is nice and strong, too. I wish we had a Social on Main near our house, because we'd visit them weekly. They have a bunch of different breakfast options and the one I ordered came with eggs, ham, hash browns and I can't remember what else but it was huge. If breakfast isn't your thing and you want lunch - you can choose from their lunch specials which are a main and three sides for under $14 - wowza that is literally crazy! It is a cozy, charming spot with friendly service and I would definitely recommend if you are in Blowing Rock.

The server covering my table was pleasant and prompt, though soft spoken so I occasionally had to ask her to repeat herself amidst the music and noise. I wouldn't call any of these selections a bargain, but the prices didn't veer too far from what you'll find in many burger joints. All in all, not an earthshaking experience, but a place I'd be willing to go back to. 3.5 stars.

This is my go to spot in Boone. Best burger in town if you ask me. It's similar to Five Guys but everything is local and I think they give you more food personally. They're always pretty busy but that's how you know this is where the locals eat, and for good reason. Try the chicken strips, that might be their best kept secret.
