Definitely do not like the new setup at the restaurant. It seems you have lost some seating due to moving the food station. When we are signed in and waiting for a table of two and you are seating people of four ahead of us. Because you don't want to put us at the table. And instead you want us to share a table with complete strangers. We have been coming here for years and you have never asked us to sit with strangers. So, I take it from now on if you are a party of two you just have to wait until the parties of four are finished? How disappointing is that. read more

The food was delicious. I preferred the regular fries to the sweet potato ones so I need to remember that for next time. They said at first there would be an hour wait but we were seated quickly when we split our group (at first they said we couldn't which seems odd but they changed their minds I guess). I went to this restaurant on a holiday for breakfast... it was not much crowded. I ordered a take away just a veggie Omelette with side of wheat bread and a coffee... the omelette was good but the bread was dry they didn't not give me any condiments to go with bread even after I mentioned when billing. The coffee was not good. They did take some time even after the food was ready...Not a Great Experience!! read more

What a great find on our last trip to Spruce Pines & Newland area!!! On Sundays they have a buffet. There was an amazing amount of food options to choose from. I can attest that the omelette bar was great, as was the grits, bacon, and other breakfast goodies. The best though was the apple fritter & donut French toast that was cooked in front of us. OMG delicious. The gentleman cooking eggs & French toast was very personable & very organized in juggling orders. The owners were very engaging in personal conversation and thanked us for stopping in while in the area. This is definitely one of my new favorite mountain restaurants. read more

Stopped there Sunday morning for breakfast. We got there right at 9 as they opened the doors. There were several families waiting in the parking lot which we took as a good sign. On Sundays they have their breakfast buffet which is amazing. Cook to serve omelets, eggs, and French toast in one area, grits biscuits, bacon, hash brown casserole, fruit, waffles, sausage etc on the other side. It's not very big but the food was great! Kaye's Kitchen is a nice small cafe (on the inside) but with plenty of outdoor seating. Ate here for breakfast/lunch and it was okay! Just a regular breakfast and lunch. The prices for breakfast and lunch are VERY reasonable. Found this place through a Yelp search since I was not familiar with the area. You can tell who are regular customers and who are not by how the servers treated you. Although there were not many people there, it did take a few minutes to be seated versus the usual customers who just walked in and sat anywhere (there was a sign stating "wait to be seated"). read more

Food is ok, overall. However if you want an omelet, pancakes, eggs, etc you have to wait at a long and inefficient station line. The morning I was there I ordered pancakes and after about a 15 min wait I gave up and just stuck with the buffet line. The biscuits and gravy were quite good. Host was awful and rude. We just arrived and he let us know that it would be a 30 minute wait which my friends and I were fine with but he gave us a nasty attitude to start with, he said, and quote," it's going to be a while, Jesus" he repeated it 3 times as if we didn't hear it the first time so it was a off putting but we stayed regardless to get seated. He then came back probably like 5 minute later and again gave us a nasty attitude to let us know it would be longer than 30 minutes. He was staring at us the entire time, and normally the race card isn't pulled but my friends and I are all Hispanic and he was a White male and all us felt like we were being discriminated. He then proceeds to pace back and forth in front of us and rolls his eyes at us and said, "unbelievable". Not even trying to hide the fact that he did not want us there. We all were uncomfortable and ashamed of the ignorance and arrogance this man had. Most of the employees were staring as well as if we were out of this earth. read more

Ate dinner recently and was very disappointed. The ribeye steak, if indeed a ribeye, was ordered medium rare. It came well done. Our appetizer order never came. We waited 45 minutes in a restaurant with two other tables occupied. I've never been disappointed with Kay's lunch but I'll never go back for dinner. read more

After a beautiful day of golf, we decided on this location for dinner--wanted something other than a burger, pizza, etc...so glad we did! We were immediately seated and chose to eat outside. We were each provided a sheet of paper for the menu since it changes daily! I ordered a berry salad and added salmon--the salmon wasn't an option, but I was informed that a protein could be added to any salad! My friends ordered the ribeye, and although they thought the "medium rare" was overdone, they reported that the rest of their meal was great. The strongest reason for my review was because the salmon was perfectly cooked! Tasty, not overdone, and such a large portion that I couldn't eat it all! I can't wait to return and see what the daily selections are next time!...reason for the 4 stars instead of five???...once our waitress took our order we NEVER saw her again! read more

We ate here for brunch on a Saturday. It took quite a while to be seated, even though there were a lot of empty tables, but they appeared busy. Buffet is great...made-to-order omelets, scramblers, eggs, french toast, pancakes. Also have a small area with bacon, sausage, potatoes, biscuits, gravy, fruit, and french toast. Food is good and buffet moves pretty quickly and is restocked regularly. Our server was a very nice young lady who was working very hard. We were seated far in the back of the outside area. I would not recommend sitting in this area. You never see any servers so getting condiments, asking for refills on coffee, and getting your check is difficult. You are far from the buffet line. Went here on a Sunday for my sons bday brunch. It was amazing!!!! It was a breakfast and lunch buffet. Eggs and french toast to order (the chef makes it live and is so entertaining and fast). Everything was wonderful. Service was great all around. We even got some coffees to go. The donut French toast was a favorite. Fried chicken was juicy and everything was seasoned well. I'm so impressed with what she and her team has accomplished over the years and we wish her continued success! Anyone who has owned or worked in a restaurant knows how hard it can be to keep going, but Kaye has persisted and improved and held to a standard most restaurants never achieve. FABULOUS omelettes, an AMAZING Sunday breakfast and brunch spread and she's been successful in keeping her prices reasonable. ( Not everyone is a millionaire!!) We were on the way home from Blowing Rock on Labor Day and stopped for brunch. We had skipped all the restaurants in Blowing Rock because of how crowded they were. We are glad we did, the food is really good, highly recommend either build your own omelette or the Mountaineer's Platter. Good service and good food at a very reasonable price. read more

What a wonderful find in Newland! This week, we have enjoyed lunch on a whim, one day, and then breakfast another day. I found the service and the young lady serving, to be very nice. I had the sweet potato curry soup and it was served piping hot and had great flavor. For breakfast, I enjoyed a breakfast skillet and a biscuit. The skillet was the perfect size, served with over medium eggs. The chef knows how to cook an over medium egg! Frankly, not many do. Most important to me? The coffee was excellent. read more

Wish we could tell you how Kaye's kitchen was but after 20 mins we didn't even get greeted. Walked in and eventually they asked us how many, we had 2 & needed a highchair - they responded with let me clean off a table. Almost 10 mins later they walk us to a table that was still dirty and wiped it while we sat. We had to walk back and get our own highchair. They did not give us menus or even say they would be right with us. Another 10 mins and nothing. We decided to leave. I'd heard a lot of hype and finally decided to try out their brunch. We've had lunch there and it was delicious. They take brunch to another level. The pancakes truly the fluffiest I've seen or tasted. It's buffet style and everything is freshly made. The bacon was so amazingly crispy I couldn't stop eating. Many of the items are made to order so when it's busy it may take a bit of time. The grits were creamy - truly unique to the area. There was sooo much food, we really couldn't try it all and again it's all freshly made.
