This is a popular local spot. There is not a lot of parking by the restaurant but the gravel lot next to it provides overflow. We got basic fare and none of the specialty items, so the food was okay. My oldest daughter said her Texas toast was soggy and had no crunch, but the chicken tenders in the fried chicken sandwich were tasty. The youngest daughter got a plain burger and the patty was a little thin, but otherwise tasted normal. Both girls got the seasoned fries and I am going to go ahead and warn you that they are not stingy with the Cajun seasoning on these fries...it was caked on almost to the point that you cannot eat them so sadly both portions were wasted. I got the Nathan's Famous combo with a saltless soft pretzel as the side. The dog itself tasted great, but the bun was just meh and I ended up eating as little of it as I could. Both girls got Oreo shakes on their combos and said they were great. We also got the two pretzel appetizer but salt on those was a mistake because it was too much. I will say that I love the options. There are so many options for everything, from sides to drinks to combo meal variations. There is a sauce bar which seems very cool. You have multiple options for ordering food: via QR code on your phone, using their iPad, from a server, and drive-thru. We ordered via QR and received a text when the food was ready. There is a station where you pick up your orders once you receive a text. This is a great concept, in my opinion, because it cuts down on time wasted waiting and it reduces unnecessary interactions between staff and customers. I feel like this might reduce stress for the employees, too. And it's a pretty cool option if you are trying to minimize contact with other people during a pandemic as there is outside seating and even picnic benches in the back where you can wait for order pickup. We came in, seated ourselves, ordered, picked up our food, ate, and left and no one said a word to us. Haha. That was a little strange, honestly. I've heard about Come Back Shack for a while and finally had the chance to stop in and try it out while visiting Boone this past weekend. In all, it was a good experience but didn't live up to the hype it had received. Here are my pros/cons: Pros: We had a side of fries and sweet potato chips. They were both fantastic. One person had a milkshake, and it received a solid report. Service was very friendly and helpful, and ordering was easy. Cons: The burger just wasn't that impressive. It really didn't stand and was just okay. I don't know about their other sandwiches, but for me I thought this was where CBS was going to stand out and it didn't. Overall, I would definitely go back and give it another shot and hope I get the chance to do so. read more

We love the come back shack, the come back sauce is a hit with this fam! The steak burger with seasoned fries did not disappoint. The sweet potato chips were great dipped in come back sauce for that sweet and salty flavor that hits the spot. TLDR: Yummy! Worth it! Go here! The Experience: I came for the first time last weekend. The drive-thru is always packed so I decided to go a few minutes before the lunch rush hit. (By the way, the drive-thru is set up in a double loop to fit more cars - very innovative! But it also traps you, so make your decision and stick with it.) They do the iPad ordering system and will come to your car. Being the first time, I did not know what to get but thanks to their convenient QR code menu and knowledgeable employees, I was able to take some recommendations and place my order. Only complaint here was although I got here a bit early, it still took them quite a bit of time to get my food - but, hey! can't rush a masterpiece. The Food: Absolutely delicious! - Per recommendation of friendly order-taker, I got a Fried Green Tomato style burger, a Bacon Cheddar style burger, fries, and a caramel apple shake. I shared with my mom, but we split the burgers to get a try of both. SO GOOD. Could have done without the shake and definitely only needed one order of fries for the both of us. The Best Part: Although I feel bad for the cashier and the business losing revenue their card reader wasn't working soooo I scored my meal for free! Woo! $22 saved! I figured I'd pay it forward and now recommend this place to any guest at my hotel looking for a good burger. Absolutely amazing food. The staff was very nice. They were extremely busy but our food came about 10 minutes after we ordered. We all got regular burgers however some got regular fries and I got seasoned fries. My husband ended up getting premium buffalo ranch box fries which were quickly gone. He loved this place and he's a harsh critic when it comes to food. He eats at a lot of places due to traveling for work. Do yourself a favor and go to the Come Back Shack. This is a really interesting quick service restaurant. The vastness of the menu and the seemingly endless combinations and options for toppings, sauces And drinks makes ordering a daunting process. The combination of indoor and outdoor seating is appealing with the beautiful weather in Boone, North Carolina. We ordered a traditional Nathan's hotdog, an Ahi tuna burger, a chicken tender sandwich, and a local burger. The sweet potato chips are really excellent. Very sweet but perfectly crisped. Come back shack rivals five guys with the amount of fries that they offer. Two large orders of french fries nearly took up the entire Takeaway bag. I have to give a shout out for the come back sauce, it is a really excellent combination of traditional ingredients with some spices that make it different. We kept it all off with a caramel shake and a coffee shake. Well put together and relatively quick as a Takeaway at the end of the meal. Come Back Shack is born in Boone and is the best burger joint in town. Think Five Guys but much better. Crispy fries, shakes, made to order burgers...made any kind of way you can dream up. You can wrap it with lettuce, Texas toast, white bread, wheat bread...You get the point. There is a reason why they are packed anytime you go there, and it's not because they have slow service.
