Soba
Peter H.

Within the Hannam Chain Market World supermarket, there are a number of eateries to dine at much like any other Asian supermarket. This one, however, has its entire kitchen out in the open where the cooks are cooking and the onlookers be onlooking. By the time we got there around 1pm, the few dining tables surrounding the restaurant were occupied. I ordered the SOBA, while my friends ordered the TON KASU and the NANGMEN, all of which are from their summer menu. We walked around the supermarket for about five minutes before returning to sit down at the counter. Kimchi and pickled radish were provided and cups for water at the dispenser were available near the cashier. Watching them prepare the food efficiently made the experience like watching a family member cooking at home. Cold soba covered in strands of seaweed came on a matted platter along with dipping sauce with shaved ice, onion, wasabi, and minced radish. On a typical summer day with sweltering heat, these noodles completely refreshed me. The soba's bounce and the lightness of the sauce were satisfying and unsurprisingly easy to scarf down. My friends and I each shared a little of our dish. The TON KASU was thin and crispy layer of breading with juicy meat and not overly seasoned, and the sauce it came with was equally balanced. The nangmen had thinner noodle in soup, and with a touch of mustard it was a nice contrast from the texture of the soba. All in all, I would love to come back for that soba and try other items on the menu.

Combo house located inside the Hannam Chain supermarket in Walnut. The food here is fantastic; I particularly enjoy the King Dumplings, Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup, and Sweet and Soul Fried Pork. Good food at a good price. This will be my favorite place to go to when I'm in the area.

My third time here. I came with my hubby and son while in town. We got the sweet and sour fried pork and the Seafood noodle soup. We ate everything as usual. It is one of our go to places to eat when we are in town. This place is located inside a Korean supermarket. Your order comes with kimchi and yellow pickles. There is also a water dispenser that you can help yourself with a cup of water. If you want some authentic Korean food, this place counts.

Love the mandoo here. I get some fried and some not cooked to make some Korean dumpling soup. Today I sat and ordered some black bean noodles. Kimchee was good here. Price well.

This is cute little good spot, quick service and delicious food! Located in the Hannan market on the left side. Gives you the feel like you're in Korea! A team of 3 hard working people! Price is right, and the portions are HUGE! The king dumpling is filled with so much meat that it's almost equivalent to 3 dumplings into one!

Don't skip this only wall sleeper, mom and pop shop. The food is authentic and feels like Home definitely gotta try if you're stopping by to supercharger your car. We're picking up some groceries. We're on the way home from Disneyland so happy to find this place. We will be back again.

The char and broth is so flavorful. I have tried all the jjampong places I can find and even frozen ones but this place is incredible‼‼ I ordered it to go and the packaging of everything was very clean.

A unique homely restaurant hidden in Hannam market. Very clean 3 person team serving even tastier food. You get to watch them prepare your orders right in front of you. Loved watching the way the team bantered with regulars. Jajangmyun (5/5) - smokey Tangsuyuk (4/5) - a bit tough but huge portion It's a local's stop so enjoy respectfully :)

Today I'm giving review on Mongolian beef rice! The beef is cooked to perfection, the rice is plentiful, and sidings combine perfectly! The service is excellent, from cooks to busboy

This place is located inside of the Korean market. The parking lot is huge so parking is not an issue. They do go on lunch break from 3:30-4:30 (I believe). You place your order at their front counter first then basically sit anywhere that's opened. With the two dishes we ordered, they gave the yellow pickled radish and kimchi as side dishes. You can also ask for more too. Both dishes are definitely shareable if you are not starving. Champong Seafood Noodles- The flavor to this soup was great and it had the right amount of spiciness to it. They were generous with the meat and also the mussels. Overall, it had a blend of mussels, squid, onion, lettuce and squash. So if you enjoy spicy, this is it! Jajangmyeon- Black bean noodles- These noodles also tasted flavorful with small pieces of meat (not too much) and lots of onion pieces. This was decent but nothing out of the ordinary. I definitely would come back again to try their dumplings! They looked huge.

Haven't come here for a while, but it reminds me the house made dishes from my parents, guess I will start come back here more often! Yummy yummy!!

I gotta give this place a great review. My family and I looove this place and have been coming here ever since I was little. Sure, sure some of the things here may not be the best quality, but it's freaking delicious! Plus the portion sizes are HUGE and relatively inexpensive compared to other places. If you're looking to support an Asian owned, local mom & pop shop this is the place to go! They are located inside the Korean market, Market World towards the left side of the building. They have a huge sign that says Combo House so you won't miss it. Everyone in my family loves their seafood noodle. It comes with a good amount of seafood and a huge portion of noodles and soup. However, my personal favorites are their jajangmyeon (black bean noodle), cold soba, and dumplings. If you come here, do not skip the dumplings! They're probably my favorite dumplings of all time. They're huge, juicy, and filled with flavor. Plus, if you like them so much you can bring home some frozen ones!

We ordered at the self-serve kiosk and the restaurant has a variety of yubu flavors including Fresh Salmon, Grilled Bulgogi and Garlic Butter Crab to choose from. We decided to grab a variety of flavors and ended up with an order of 14 yubus. The yubus are individually priced ranging from $5 - $7 each. I'd say about 3-4 yubus are good per person for those with a relatively decent appetite. Our order took a little over 15 minutes to prepare, but the yubus were fresh and delicious. While there's no outdoor seating available, there is a good amount of indoor seating present and I appreciated the bright open space. Given that you order at a self-service kiosk, don't expect much service though. I think the service, or lack thereof, was the only disappointment of the establishment. Otherwise, it's good little place serving up yummy finger food options.

But other than that, it's a regular restaurant. We came on a weekday night for a slightly later dinner and the restaurant was packed. We had to wait a couple minutes, but we were seated in around 10-ish minutes. Not bad. You can tell it's a community favorite since people were really friendly speaking with the servers in Korean. For our dinner, we got the: 1) Yumso Tang: -This is their hot and spicy goat soup. - I don't usually get this protein and soup base, but I wasn't the one that ordered. It is a hearty, very strongly goat flavored soup with lots of goat meat inside. -It's no spicier than a Shin Ramyun, so no worries about that, but quite flavorful and has a decent amount of leeks and other veggies inside. Definitely goes great with rice. 2) Soondae Jupsi: -Korean pork sausage plate. -This is a very generous amount of Korean blood pork sausage with some offal to the side too. I can sort of eat the blood sausage okay with the vinegar and salt combo, but need rice with it. And I'm not a fan of the offal pieces after. I was treated out, so I can't complain. Not the biggest fans of what was ordered, but I'm sure it's good for those who enjoy these dishes naturally. It also came with banchan and the purple Korean rice (my fav).

After a while the smell also started to get to me mentally as well, which kind of hurt the overall dining experience. So I'd probably go to a different location from now on. Maybe the staff have gone nose blind to the smell... Aside from that, great banchan selection for the bossam but they could have been more proactive about refilling the banchan dishes that got emptied or just checked on the table a bit more.
