Everytime i have family party, we alway order large trays from combo express and it is always a hit! our go to items are always, salt and pepper chicken, combo fried rice and combo chow mein and honey walnut prawns. The walnut prawns come on a bed of cabbage so don't be fooled by the amount , maybe you need to order 2 large trays for your family party! I do live quite a ways away so I wish there was a closer location as well as a more safe location. but it is vallejo so just watch your back! read more

I go here for one dish - the spicy salt chicken. It's a takeout and catering kind of place. Staff is efficient. I think the chicken is just great, and I make a point of getting it when I'm in the Vallejo area. I had a couple other things there that I thought were OK at best, but the chicken is really good. I make a point of stopping here whenever I pass through Vallejo. I have friends who grew up in Vallejo request their friends who still live there bring a tray of combo express chicken for parties. Combo express has been a slept on gem in Vallejo for FARRRR too long! If you want cheap, QUALITY, Chinese food that won't leave you coming back for seconds (because of the portions) then THIS is the place! From the pot stickers, to the spicy salt chicken, this place covered everything! I've been going here for 10 years and don't see myself stopping any time soon! Looks like there's either a change in ownership or change in management. There's a whole new crew in the front now. The portions are a bit smaller than before although it's still a decent amount. Before the boxes were bulging when they closed them. Now they close nicely. The spicy salt chicken are now extra salty, which is too salty for me. I won't be ordering them anymore. I haven't order the fried fish under this new management/crew, but hopefully they didn't make that extra salty too. The fried spareribs have been replaced with fried pork chop. Unassuming place , not a place to of you want to sit and eat , however their niche is their take out . Food is decent. Not great but enough to feed 2 or three persons depending on your portion how how much one can eat . Friend vegetables spring roll is good and their potstickers , i like their eggplant with tofu and some of their veggie dish that you can order ala carte . This is a gem. A locally owned neighborhood spot to get convenient yet fresh and tasty Chinese food. It has more options and better flavor then Panda Express. My fav dishes are the BBQ chicken and the eggplant with tofu. The fried rice is better than most other places I've tried. And the chow mein is not greasy at all. Actually, their fried entrees never taste greasy or oily. Other dishes worth trying are the fried spare ribs, yummy but a little messy to eat because they have bones. I asked my Dad to pick up some food I had ordered over the phone . I ordered Combination Won Ton Soup, Combination Chow Fun Walnut Shrimp Chicken with Spicy Salt Mild Spicy. When my Dad arrived home and took out the food from the plastic bag the Combination Won Ton Soup had ABSOLUTELY NO won tons just pieces of chicken pork 1 Shrimp with some cabbage and Baby Bok Choy and a few slivers of carrots. No Walnut Prawns but instead a few pieces fried Shrimp and also included in the bag was Fish with Spicy Salt. Missing was the order of Combination Chow Fun and chicken with Spicy Salt Mild Spicy. This isn't the first time I've ordered food at this establishment. The previous times in the past everything was on point but recently VERY DISAPPOINTING!! I also asked the male person who took my order to repeat it back to me and repeated everything I ordered so was under the impression I would be getting what I ordered but this time it wasn't executed right! IMO Combo Express gets Food Service Industry needs to be attentive and pay more attention to detail especially in these days of the bad economy. I'm a big fan of their shrimp chow fun and fish fillet, and my family often gets the smelt for family functions which is usually a fan favorite. If I get a combo plate I like to get half chow mein and half fried rice, eggplant tofu, and another entree that varies (typically beef broccoli, orange chicken, barbecue chicken, or sweet and sour chicken). Walking in, it is clear that the business is under new management. However, the noodles are ok, on the bland side and the fried rice is decent. The Bbq chicken is similar to panda express and the spicy salt fried chicken is consistently flavorful but not spicy. The Pot Stickers (I got a half order of 3pcs for $3.50ish) were also pretty good! They are homemade and have a generous amount of flavorful pork filling. Tried this place about a total of 4 or 5 times. They haven't missed yet! First off tall of ladies are always polite and give mutual respect to everybody, so be respectful to them, because they always hook up the plates FAT! Unlike Panda Express, they don't skimp you and hold back on the spoon portions, they literally fill it up as much as possible til the container can barely close . Sometimes I think she's done and then goes back for another scoop to add more !! Haha I love it . One two entree plate can easily feed two people, unless your super hungry . The orange chicken is ehh, that's a go to at panda , but here I recommend skipping that and going for the bbq chicken and/or the crispy salt chicken trust me. Two things I appreciate, they are consistent with their portions, and are always polite with everybody from all backgrounds who comes in. Lots of regular customers. I REALLY wanted to like this location but I am so sad to say I was disappointed. I was craving some feel good Chinese takeout but not the family size kind but more so the combo plates kind. I ordered two combo plates. One with chow mein, beef broccoli, and their bbq chicken. For the other I got chow mein, sweet sour pork, and bbq chicken. After seeing the person in front of me order some gyoza I made sure to also grab an order of those because I LOVE gyoza. Upon opening the plates I already knew I was not going to like the bbq chicken and the beef from the broccoli beef. The bbq chicken had so much cartilage and fat that I could not stomach it; the beef was hard to chew I could not finish it. I did like the chow mein and broccoli but that's about it. The chow mein was exactly what I wanted. I like a thick chow mein noodle and this was exactly that. It overall had great taste. My bf felt the same way about the bbq chicken but did enjoy his sweet sour pork and chow mein. The gyoza was the winner here. They're huge!! Super fatty and they taste amazing. This is not the best Chinese food out there, however if you are looking for something quick and cheap and local to Vallejo, this is the spot! My usual order is the 2 entree combo with chow mien. My favorite entrees are the tofu dishes, orange chicken, and broccoli beef. Their pot stickers are also pretty yum as well as their wonton soup.
