Surprisingly good! Did not expect to find this little Chinese place to be a hidden gem. Originally, we were set to eat at a Filipino fast food restaurant at the corner of this stripmall plaza but when we walked inside the smell of food was a bit overpowering... okay, a lot overpowering that I told my hubby that I did not want to smell like food at the concert that evening so we checked out of there immediately and went somewhere else. We walked further down the long hallway and found this place serving Chinese food that was still open so we walked in. Inside there was one other customer besides us. It was Panda Express-style ordering. The server behind the food counter gave us food samplings. Fell in love with that first taste of the spicy salt chicken. At first when I saw that word "spicy" I was not even going to try it (Im not fond of spicy food) but the ladies behind the counter were so friendly and nice and gave me a huge sample chicken meat to try and told me that it's not spicy at all. They're right! Yum! I decided on a 1-item combo with fried rice and spicy salt chicken and hubby wanted the fried rice with BBQ chicken. When we saw how much rice the staff server piled on one of our entree orders we decided to just have the 2-item combo and have both our chosen entrees with the fried rice. It worked out. The food was delicious, tasty and plentiful... between me and hubby we couldn't even finish our shared meal. It was humongous! The price was right also. The combo specials are a great value. I have been going here for years and I went a couple of days ago. As I was checking out, I seen a cockroach walking on the counter which is where the food is. This place looks clean but if roaches are out during the day that is a sign of infestation. This restaurant and surrounding building like Pacific Islanders and surrounding restaurants should all be closed down and bombed, they are cockroach infested. read more

Oh my! Combo Express has the Best Hot and Sour soup! We did a phone order and didn't know how much soup we would receive so we ordered 2. One container was large enough to fill 3 soup bowls. It was the most delicious hot and sour soup that we have had in a very long time. It was perfectly seasoned, large pieces of chicken, wood ear mushrooms, bamboo shoots and tofu. We will be back for it again! We decided to try sweet and sour pork, beef broccoli, Kung Pao chicken, combo fried rice, their homemade pork pot stickers and a special order of tomato beef chow mein. After a crappy lunch earlier, we went by this spot for dinner...maaaan!! The fried rice (made special to order bc I like extra stuff) was delicious. The potstickers are an anomaly that was the cherry on the top pf the experience-they come out in one whole circle and then break off into individual potsticks :), super tasty; and I am funny about potstickers. Oh, and I cant forget about the fried spareribs and the fried fish. And the service, even though its busy and hot and we be hungry waiting, they do not rush you or forget their known customers. My sister hadn't been in a while and they remember her name and face lol-probably bc of her particulars when ordering, but they always get it right. Attentive, polite and not stingy with servings. We moved to Vallejo a few years ago. Of course we are always in the hunt for good Chinese food. We discovered this thru yelp. The 1st time I walked into this place was post covid so they was always a line out the door. At that time I read on yelp their Chow meinnwas plain no taste. I believe the owners read that comment. I noticed after that comment their Chow mein got better. Love when they listen and read what needs to prove. Well, I walked into combo express yesterday and notice the people in front were not the same ladies. They were 3 males & a female. I did not recognize any of them. I made a little comical comment. Where are the ladies did they take a day off. The young adult at the cash register said, "oh they retired and sold the place to my family." I said oh ok. It does look like the food looked the same. Probably kept the same cooks. The only difference I observed was their portion have decreased. The ladies used to fill the containers up to where it was hard to close. Like their famous salt & pepper chicken. I ordere twice now, yesterday and today. They don't fill it up like they use to. They use a scooper that scoops up crumbles little piece of chicken but it's not even chicken it's the batter. Which is very annoying. I'm paying for the chicken not the batte. So, if the owners are reading this. Please bring back the portions that the other ladies gave. You're going to lose some of your customers if you give up those large portions. This is a very good Chinese spot. I just wish they had online delivery. The spicy chicken with salt is a hit or miss. It's not actually spicy but it is salty. The special menu items are always cooked to order. I recommend the fried fish. It's a good thing to remember that this spot doesn't really have a medium size just small and large from my understanding. read more

My family and I ordered there this last Thursday and the orange chicken and sweet n sour chicken had more fried batter balls than battered fried chicken pieces. I swear out of 8-10 pieces I has 3 pieces of chicken. My Mom agreed and same with my brother and his orange chicken combo plate. I'll give them another try because they used to be the best in my neighborhood for the price. But if these are the corners they're cutting, I won't continue to be a customer. The cooks were eating dinner while we were there eating before the closed and they spat food out there mouths onto a plate or hand and than picked in-between their teeth and chewed smacking their lips. I was going through places close to me just scanning menus and came across combo express. I've never seen so many great reviews for a steam table Chinese place. I was intrigued so I jumped on my motorcycle and hit the 1.8 mile journey from home. When I arrived I looked at the offerings and expected it to be the same as any other place, mediocre at best. The lady behind the counter saw my motorcycle helmet and started sharing stories of her riding her 125cc bike in her native home. She was so sweet and it was a fun little chat as I ordered the rice, which was about triple the amount than other places, black bean garlic chicken and salt and pepper chicken and a huge egg roll. I get home and dive in and lemme tell you this is not just mediocre steam table serve Chinese food! I was so pleasantly surprised by the taste, the freshness and the tonnage of food they give you, my to go box couldn't close all the way, man it was good! I'll so be back especially for that salt and pepper chicken. It may not be that healthy cause it's breaded and fried but a little cheat once a month should be acceptable. It was my first time and everyone in line in front of me and who walked in for pickup all ordered Fish Fillet, essentially Salt n Pepper fish, and it was about 10 minutes and worth every second. This review is NOT for their customer service which I would normally dock a star for!! BBQ pork wonton soup was a tad sweet, awesome! No need to doctor the broth up. Lots of meat and fat wontons!! However, the wontons have something crunchy in them. Not normal. I also found egg shells in my hot n sour soup which has too huge of chunks of tofu. (See pics) Pot Stickers were huge! Each pot sticker is equivalent to 2 regular sized pot stickers. Juicy and good, but much better with gyoza sauce and chili oil! - (see pics) Chicken egg roll good, but barely any chicken! My family has been coming here to order their party platters for years! They give hugeeee portions and they are so good! When I went to school in Davis I would stop by here for their combo plates too, and one combo plate would last me 2-3 meals because they gave so much. Man it breaks my heart to write this review I absolutely love combo express especially there salt and pepper fried chicken and there bbq chicken, me and my family have been coming here for many years very regularly it's by far the best tasting quick Chinese food places in the area, definitely better than hops sings or other competitors around Vallejo, yesterday at 3:45 pm 8/28/21 I witnessed something that shocked me and disgusted me at the same time, the cook brought out a fresh bowl of chicken and set it on the counter, then it fell upside down behind the counter and the food hit the floor they scrambled to pick it up and throw away some but now set the half full bowl on the counter. I was watching the whole time waiting for them to do the right thing and throw it away since it all hit the floor, I said out loud if you put that in there I'm leaving, but they were so confident nobody seen anything and have no regard for the health and well being of there customers and the community they waited a couple minutes then the lady with short hair and glasses mixed it right it with the remaining tray like nothing happened and I looked her right it the eyes and walked out. I went to my vehicle and called them and let them know I seen what they did and lost a customer for life, I'm sure I've spent a lot of money through the years eating there, but never again I'm ashamed they all knew about it and did nothing, I've eaten all over the world, Philippines, China, and had no one ever dropped food on the floor and tried to serve it to me right in front of my face!!! I'm more heartbroken than anything because I fell in love with your food many years ago and now I will not enjoy it anymore. Best SaltNPepper chicken HANDS DOWN , next too Oaklands anyways. Only come here for the Chicken & Potstickers, everything else is a pretty much past for me. Ive tried to like their other entrees but they just aren't it. The noodles are good on a GOOD day. Other than that I usually grab a item combo with rice/chicken & some potstickers for the wife. It is hidden , have to know vallejo to know where to find. Other than that no complaints. Ladies are friendly place is cleaner than most Chinese places I've been too.
