Vietnamese iced coffee, Thai iced tea
    Karen W.

For a quick and easy lunch this place is the ticket! They were featured in the newspaper recently so hubs and I wanted to check it out! Located across from the Union City Costco and in the shopping center where Five Guys and Starbucks is located. We were lucky and got a parking space right in front. It was around 12:15 pm so all the seats inside were taken but after we ordered at the counter (there's also a kiosk where you can order inside), we waited at one of the two tables inside. The inside is clean and spacious. The cashier told us she would let us know when a table inside was available as we had my older sister with us and she would feel more comfortable inside. Once we got a table inside, we had Vietnamese iced coffee, Thai iced tea and shared the Big Brother Short Rib Plate and Big Brother Pork Skewer Plates and enjoyed the refreshing iced coffee and iced tea as well the tasty short ribs and pork skewers. For a quick meal in a box (take out or eat in) this place is the ticket. They gave us little platters so we could share the two orders.

Yay!! I'm so happy that a com tam place opened up near me and now I don't have to drive all the way to San Jose! Located in the small plaza near Costco - this parking lot gets hectic. You can either order at the front or on the tablets inside. The place seems like a to-go style, grab&go type of place, but they do have plenty of seating both inside and outside the restaurant! I ordered a big bro plate with pork skewers - this plate comes loaded with plenty of meat, a huge dollop of broken rice topped with fried pork skin, steamed egg cake (cha trung), pork skin (bi), and a shrimp sugarcane skewer (chao tom). It seems like their displayed menu is slightly different than the tablet one - the display menu says it comes with a fried egg, but the one on the tablet says it comes with chao tom? Super easy fix though, I'm sure they're still working out some minor kinks. They do serve everything in to-go containers, but I overheard the workers saying that they're planning on changing that in the near future! The flavors at the place are delicious, reminds me a lot of the flavors you'd get at Com Tam Thien Huong (iykyk). A good com tam plate is only as good as their nuoc mam - I would have liked the nuoc mam to be sliiightly sweeter, but the chili paste they provide on the table made up for it. This chili paste isn't your standard sambal from a jar, it's super fresh and SPICY. The pork skewers weren't dry at all, and had a strong lemongrass flavor, and grilled to perfection. They provide a LOT of bi, which I was super happy about! The cha trung was super juicy and flavorful, but had a touch too much vermicelli in it in my opinion. The chao tom was good, a standard grilled shrimp paste, but still delicious. Everything was just slightly too salty, but eating everything with the rice, salad, and do chua really helps to balance everything out. Overall the flavors at this place remind me of home, very authentically Vietnamese! I'll definitely be back to check out more of their menu items!!

Newly open Vietnamese broken rice near us, awesome. At the moment, they serve everything in "to go" boxes but not sure if that's forever. I should've asked. Got 3 orders and took it home with us, and portion is not bad. Although, I have been to other authentic Vietnamese Com Tam in San Jose which doesn't compare. I see this place as a fast food com tam which I like when I'm craving it since it's so close to us. Place isn't huge but has enough space for eating there. Food isn't bad as well, again it being a fast food com tam. Prices are reasonable too. The menu isn't extensive so it's easy to decide what to get. Parking isn't a problem too! I mean if there's no parking, which I think will never happened, you can park at the Costco parking lot. But yeah, welcome to the neighborhood and glad you're here.

Decided to check out this new spot I've been eyeing since they were getting ready for opening and finally had the time. Inside is very clean. They have self ordering kiosks but you can also order with someone. I got the combo pork vermicelli bowl and it was delicious! Meat was marinated very well. I do wish there was more seating inside. It also looks like everything is served to go style even tho theres a dine-in option. All food served either in paper bowls or plates. I'd come back during my work lunch.

Came by Com Tam Bros around 2:30pm on Saturday and the place was full, which was a good sign. We originally sat outside but moved inside once a table opened up. We ordered the Big Bro Short Rib Plate, Beef Pho, Lychee Lemonade, and Thai Tea. I had wanted the dragon fruit lemonade, but they were sold out, and they were also sold out of the Viet coffee, which made me kinda sad. The short rib tasted good, but for the price, I don't think the value was quite there. I had eaten right before, and I think that if I hadn't done that, I wouldn't have been full. The egg cake was a bit on the bland side, and they forgot the fried egg. There's a four dollar up charge for the short rib, which is standard. If I were to come back, I would order the pork skewers because the value would be better. I really enjoyed the Lychee Lemonade, though I felt like they could have used less ice. My wife loved the Thai tea. Overall, the food tasted good. The owner (or someone on staff) came by and gave us a free Vietnamese dessert, a coconut jelly type of thing in a cup. For free, it was not bad. We also got 10% off because they just opened. Overall it's a new restaurant, so they're still learning and figuring things out. But I would definitely recommend this place.

Com Tam Bros is a hair shy of Com Tam Thien Huong down in San Jose and Milpitas. For my Vietnamese people iykyk and for those who don't, this is a high praise. With that said I think with proper feedback Com Tam Bros can reach their full potential. Their team seems young, enthusiastic and absolutely eager to succeed. So let's start with the praises and work our way to the feedback. For those new to com tam, it's referred to as broken rice in english. The name refers to the broken rice grains that come with this particular dish and requires special grains/process to make. When eating Vietnamese rice dishes you want to see if the rice is truly broken and not using normal jasmine rice. I can confirm that this place's broken rice was made perfectly moist with enough room for fish sauce. As for the meats they definitely don't skimp out. You get three skewers for the thit xien nuong and my family's pork chops were all super hefty. They came home and immediately smelt the food which meant it was cooked/smoked correctly. All great signs. Now let's go through some of the feedback. I feel like a lot of folks who tried this place on grand opening were overly critical. Since they were new I expected some small hiccups and therefore my rating reflects those hiccups. 1. They forgot the Bi, in the Big Bro plate (4 mon). It would had been perfect if it was executed properly. 2. Their online ordering system may had gone down the same day or bugging out, but it didn't let me order ahead so I just went in person instead. It didn't look as busy so I was wondering what happened. Definitely look into this. 3. The meats were ever so slightly salty. A pinch less of salt and you guys would've nailed it perfectly. This is a very easy fix. 4. I would recommend a spicy nuoc mam or fish sauce. The one you have now is a bit on the blander side and doesn't add much to the dish. I know this too is an easy fix. But besides these very minor things in my opinion, Com Tam Bros have the DNA of a great broken rice restaurant. Their flavors are near perfect, their operations is only going to improve, and I believe they will only get better with time. So overall give this spot a try if you're a Vietnamese food fan and they have other dishes like pho here as well. Im looking forward to being a regular and hoping to update my review.

I love me a delicious strong Vietnamese coffee & when I saw this new spot opened up in hayward, I immediately looked at their menu to see if they offer the classic Vietnamese coffee and yes they do! This Vietnamese coffee was the perfect blend of caffeine & condensed milk, not too sweet either preserving the flavor of the coffee. we don't live close by but was in the area for errands, so now I can't wait to return for some of their other menu items like the pho or appetizers and even grilled menu items too. It's located in the plaza adjacent to Costco, with plenty of parking in the lot. The inside was in pristine condition very clean, organized & a good amount of seating for a cozy spot. We used the self service kiosk but they also take orders at the front. The staff was friendly and greeted us when we stopped in. If you're looking for a new Vietnamese restaurant in the east Bay Area to checkout, stop by com Tâm Bros for lunch dinner or even a quick coffee to go.

Happy to see more com tam spots opening nearby. This is a fast casual restaurant so not a lot of seats inside. Com tam was flavorful but Pork chops were a little thin for the price. The cha was good but mostly egg with a little pork, and the chao tom was good too. Pho flavor was ok, too fatty for my taste but noodles were overcooked and mushy. They have sate, so im hoping for bbh on the menu sometime in the future? Overall good for a fast casual viet spot if you want something quick but they needa work out the ordering system. Seemed to have some confusion w other tables orders when I went.

Excited to finally see this open. We've been seeing it when we go to Costco. I ordered via toast tab cuz we had to go pick up our son. Soft opening so things weren't working quite as we thought. Pickup time was 2:21 and our food was ready at 2:40 a little longer than anticipated but what was disappointing and the dock stars was we ordered a child pho for my son and when we got home there was no brisket or anything in it. These plain noodles was not worth $11.99. For $3 more I should've just got the adult portion. The big brother rice plate with chicken was fine. I actually didn't use the fish sauce cuz it was flavorful enough. My husband enjoyed the porkchop rice place. The egg rolls are made with chicken instead of pork which is different but still tasty. The plates are a bit more pricey than some of the other Vietnamese places around. Extra stars the workers were really nice just disappointed we paid $12 for a small helping of noodles and broth. We also got the lychee lemonade and it tastes like the lychee syrup from the can and the passion fruit lemonade (this one was more Refreshing).

Com Tam Bros just opened near our place, and I was excited to give it a try! We visited on their very first day during the soft opening. We ordered the pork skewer plate and a passion fruit lemonade. The drink was refreshing and perfectly balanced, while the pork skewers were juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. The restaurant itself was clean, organized, and welcoming. Since it was opening day, the team is still settling into the flow of service, which is completely understandable. Even so, the staff was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. Overall, it was a great first experience, and I'm looking forward to coming back to explore more of the menu. Wishing the team continued success as they get settled into the neighborhood!

Food is delicious. I really liked their Shrimp Avocado Spring Roll & Lychee Lemonade. The Cơm Tốm is a home run. Definitely write home about it. Team is very friendly. Service is quick. Interior is nice & cozy. Location is great with plenty of parking.

Regarding the viet coffee, this one was particularly strong, with a definite higher proportion of coffee to condensed milk that doesn't offend but also risks being a bit TOO strong (wild to say that when all viet coffee at its core is strong). Overall, it's conveniently located, but I think I might prefer to go further south for something with a more balanced taste profile.

Then the lady who greeted us - she joyfully came out with a bowl of chicken pho and noodles for our baby and said "I take your order but baby can eat first!" - she was so thoughtful and sweet and the bowl was perfect! Bits of chicken and noodles and clear broth... my baby loved it! She took our orders and the food came! I got the BanhXeo and it was big and full of chicken and some shrimps some sprouts and onions and the crepe had such great coconut flavor and texture. My hubs liked his Bun Bo Hue and our friends enjoyed the vermicelli noodle dish as well. As we sat and enjoyed the goodness of our meal that was when the traffic steadily moved through - saw about 7 to 8 different folks walking in and making orders and waiting for their meal and leaving - and some pick ups. It turned out to be a very busy restaurant. The kind lady - she then came back to our table after the dinner rush of to go orders were through - she chatted our table up some and she was telling us that she was the baker and gave us a small bag of macaroons. Her name is Alice and she is so kind. She mentioned that lunch can be very very busy because of the workforce coming through - but I'm glad we were there for dinner and got a nice laugh and conversation with her... the outside was filled with pots of flowers and plants lined along the parking lot and she had some outdoor cats just nestled in the plants. A lovely experience. Her macaroons were so yummy too! We will definitely keep in mind coming here when we're in the area!

This is my favorite place to grab a #9 grilled pork bahn mi. Their baguettes grew bigger too but their portion size of filling grew as well. Their prices increased to $8 but that's inflation for you...can't expect it to stay $4 forever lol. They have other food items but I don't get it that much. Service remains top tier as the workers hustle their way to pushing our sandwiches at top speed. They now offer Zelle as an option to pay but just have cash ready bc signal is not that great.

Bread was 5 stars, toasted and soft inside. 5 stars overall - egg rolls, wow, surprisingly good since it was on the deli and who knows how long it was sitting there. Still crunchy and very flavorful - stuffed bitter melon, wasn't sure if I wanted to try it since the color wasn't vibrant green, but a customer in front of me ordered one so what the heck, I love bitter melon. Wow, full of flavor, the pork filling was excellent, 5 stars Service - took 20 minutes to get our a simple order, not the most efficient, but one must accept this for the price point and quality, but still slow so only 3 stars I would average this out as 3 stars but the food far outweighs the service, just be prepared for a long wait.

Thai infused brunch with eye catching dishes and bold flavors to stimulate your senses will have…read moreyou waking up and then craving for a nap afterwards! Integrated into downtown Hayward just a block from the theater and other eateries and drink spots, Khao Hom has made a strong impression in the local community drawing a good following for weekend brunch as well as weekday lunch. With street parking right in front as well as sharing free public parking in the lot behind the restaurant, once you've slogged through traffic to get to this area, you'll be able to easily park and venture in for your food experience. As you enter, you'll likely need to wait for one of their staff members to seat you in one of their two dining spaces. The rooms are well lit and enhance the ambiance of your meal (and photos) with natural lighting. When seated, you'll get their food and drinks menu in addition to finding their dessert menu at the table. As standard, each table gets a carafe of water for you to serve yourselves. Their menu is quite extensive in representing popular Thai flavors with a bit of flare. You'll find curries, soups, noodles and chef specialties in their own sections of the menu. They also have some alcohol infused drinks for those looking for a full brunch experience. As a novice to some Thai dishes, I did have to ask the staff to explain a bit about certain dishes, but there were a few that caught my eye and never let go. Thai tea - flavorful and bold; rich but not too sweet Matcha latte - rich matcha flavor and creamy; best sipped and can be packed in a to-go cup if you don't finish Tom yum crab omelet - beautifully crafted omurice-esque dish where you'll find white rice encased in an egg omelet topped with succulent pieces of crab meat and smothered in tom yum soup. This dish is not only a pleasure to look at but the taste and textures in each bite will have you salivating for more until the dish completely disappears. This unique take is a must get for first timers! Roti gai tod - crispy fried yet succulent chicken served with a small serving of creamy yellow curry, white rice, and a roti alongside their delicious chili sauce. Fantastic balance of textures and flavors will have your tongue dancing from the spices. Tom kha soup - a bowl of comfort with a whole lot of shredded chicken, red onions, and mushrooms with a few big quarters of fresh tomatoes. It's not as creamy as I would like but the flavor is there with its abundance in lemongrass. The portion is large as one order can easily split into two bowls. Fried ice cream - a meal topper and sweet indulgence for those looking to try something new and rarely found elsewhere. This giant meteorite of a breaded and fried ball of vanilla ice cream is topped with chocolate fudge, powdered sugar, a generous helping of whipped cream and plenty of fruit (strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, grapes, and cantaloupe). Definitely shareable and a surprising star of their dessert menu - they could definitely do more to advertise this! The staff were super friendly and quick to take dirty dishes out of the way. They kept the place clean, served the food promptly and treated all of their customers with respect and smiles. Top notch crew from the front of the house to the back. Furthermore, should you need the restrooms, they do have two gender neutral rooms that were decently maintained. Overall, Khao Hom is not your everyday Thai restaurant nor is it your run of the mill brunch spot - this is a unique experience with food created out of passion to merge these together. The result is an aesthetically pleasing yet hunger extinguishing meal that will have you discovering new flavors and craving for more. With its proximity to the city center, it's a great a spot to plan out a lunch or brunch before a nice stroll around or a movie. Thai food has never looked and tasted so good!

It was really flavorful and it all came together really well for us. I think we were a bit underwhelmed with the omelette. It wasn't bad, but I expected a bit more in terms of flavor and it wasn't much to remember. The cocktails were really yummy and creative.

We ordered five dishes: seafood soup, choo chee fish fillet, pad kee mao, roti canai, and rice. The food was good and we ended up eating about half of our meal and asked for to-go boxes to take the rest home. Unfortunately, on our way home we realized we forgot the to-go bag with all the leftover food at the restaurant. I immediately called the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager. I was told they had already thrown the bag away because they waited for a while and were preparing to close. I returned to the restaurant around 8:45 PM to ask about it in person. I spoke with one waitress who said there was no manager available. Another waitress came over and I explained the situation again. She said there was nothing they could do, and the conversation became unpleasant. When I expressed my frustration, she told me to go ahead and contact a lawyer and then told me to leave the store. I understand mistakes happen and that food may sometimes be thrown away for safety reasons, but the way the situation was handled was disappointing and unprofessional. A little understanding or better customer service would have gone a long way. We used to enjoy coming here, but this experience left a bad impression.
