Tried Colossus for the first time this morning and wow. Got an iced latte with an extra shot, simple syrup cold foam, and a little honey -- perfectly balanced. Strong espresso flavor without being overpowering, and the cold foam added the smoothest natural sweetness without tasting artificial. Congratulations to Colossus on their Friday opening July 24th! I'm super glad we called for a rezy for our party of 5, the place was packed at 6:30 and all the tables were still full when we left at 8:30! Everything was delicious, authentic and expertly made & service was on point. The owner stopped by to check on us , adding a nice personal touch to our experience. The layout inside is fresh, accommodating to multiple dining parties. Excellent use of a continuous padded banquette seat running the length of the restaurant. Unique decor and a super efficient use of space without patrons feeling crowded. We tried almost the entire menu starting with orange wine, sauvignon blanc and talking hands pilsners. The souvlaki was perfection, we also tried bacon polenta, seasoned almonds, rosemary focacia bread service, ceasar roasted chicken, steak frietes, ceasar salad, summer salad, summer pizza, & ended with a shared peach mess dessert. we will be back to try some of the other appetizers and looking forward to more great service at Colossus restaurant. read more

Colossus is one of my favorite bakeries in Long Beach. The bakery is small with barely any sitting space but I think they're expanding to have more seating. I've only ever had their pastries but they've never disappointed. I've previously had their kouign-amann and it was savory, sweet, and crispy. For this review, I had their pan con tomate (one of my favorite things ever), which came on a soft, pillowy slice of sourdough with garlicky grated tomato and rich olive oil. Although small, definitely an exquisite savory snack. Their croissant was not as flaky as I hoped (I came near closing time) but it was still buttery and tasted amazing. The OG chocolate chip cookies was delicious was soft, chewy (in a good way), and abundantly studded with milk chocolate chunks. I'd love to see a dark chocolate version because the milk chocolate proved a bit too sweet for me, but I still ate the whole thing (: Colossus is a fantastic bakery and I can't wait to go back to try their sandwiches, their pizzas, and their other pastries! read more

Took the youngest here on Friday to get a small bite to eat. Ordered the ham cheese croissant and it was tasty when warmed up. Also got the kouign amann pastry which was a bit greasy on the inside and too sweet for our taste. Found nearby free street parking for 24 minutes before 10 Am. read more

i've been meaning to try colossus for a while, i live pretty close and i always see it at the farmers market. that being said i finally tried it. came on a tuesday morning; they had a steady stream of people but nothing too crazy. seems like a weekday morning might be the move. i got a vanilla latte, the done up eggs in a basket, and the breakfast sandwich. the coffee was like a 2/5. it was basically a cup of milk. now i understand latte is typically a lot of milk, and my preference these days skews to cortado measurements, but even this was milkier than your typical latte. probably would not get again. that being said the breakfast was pretty decent. i enjoyed both the breakfast sandwich and the eggs in a basket. the sandwich had a really nice fluffy texture to the egg. and the flavors of the eggs in a basket were good. my husband really enjoyed the slice of bread for it as well. food was like a 4/5. the people working were super nice, i'd probably come back for a quick and easy breakfast but there are much better coffee shops (in my opinion) nearby. read more

Colossus has been a staple on 2nd street since we moved to Belmont Shore - we've always loved their bakery, coffee, and their amazing pizzas. Something about the brioche bun with egg, arugula, chili sauce, and added roasted mushrooms (Chanterelle? Oyster?) was so tasty that I need to go there again to get the same thing! I had breakfast for the first time in Colossus Bakery's new café. The ambience and decor were very nice, understated yet pleasing to the eye. The menu had a nice variety of items and the prices were quite reasonable. I had a croissant egg sandwich, my friend had an egg sandwich on a brioche bun. Both were fantastic, very tasty. Our server, Sidney, was attentive and fun. He took the time to talk to us so the experience was even nicer. I live in the area and was able to walk to the bakery/café, so I will go often. read more

I'm not one to write bad reviews because I genuinely want businesses, especially small ones, to thrive. However, I believe part of thriving is knowing which areas need improvement. I wanted to give this place a try, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. I ordered a regular croissant and a chocolate croissant, which were decent, but the cashier's rude and dismissive attitude overshadowed everything. I still left a tip, assuming she may have been having a bad morning. It was only afterward that she became slightly friendlier. It took me a little while to finally give Colossus a try and I'm so glad I did! Yesterday was my second visit. The service is outstanding. Eamon was very friendly and great with recommendations. On the first visit we tried the chocolate chip cookies and they were amazing! So. Much. Chocolate. We also tried a baguette and that was also outstanding. Yesterday's visit provided cinnamon sugar knots, which were pretty great and a repeat of the chocolate chip cookies. Can't recommend Colossus enough! read more

Been here a few times! Cute little spot with good service. But I was disappointed when my latte came out to $8! I regular a few other places that sell the exact same latte for $6.50, one even $6! Also the maple pecan scone which I think I'll pass on next time. I also took home with me a jalapeño cheddar and sourdough loaf. I made sandwiches with it and it did not disappoint. I genuinely want to give this place 5 stars, because the bread and croissants are exceptional, the aesthetic is beautiful, the wine selection is thoughtfully curated, the pastry offerings are great, and the cute gift knick-knacks add a really nice touch. On product and atmosphere alone, this would easily be a 5-star bakery. Unfortunately, after three separate visits, the experience continues to fall short due to the staff. No matter the time--morning or mid-afternoon--the energy is consistently the same: no smiles, no warmth, no sense of welcome. Everyone appears grumpy and disengaged, almost as if they're too cool to be serving baked goods. If that's the case, it may be worth reconsidering the role. On one occasion, I walked in 30 minutes before closing, and the ovens were already turned off. When I asked if my pastry could be warmed, I was made to feel like an inconvenience simply for asking. Today, after looking over the counter and noticing that not a single person appeared happy to be there, I chose to walk out. I'm not sure if this is a management issue or if the staff isn't being supported in a positive work environment, but it absolutely translates to the customer experience--which is unfortunate, given how strong the product is. The success of any business depends on its customers, and first impressions (and repeated impressions) matter. It would be wise to address these issues early if the goal is long-term success. I'll happily continue to recommend the bread--but I truly hope the service eventually matches the quality of what's being made. read more

How's that now?! I visited their newly opened sit down restaurant today. I got the French omelette that came with a slice of dry toast. The omelette was teeny tiny. I was perplexed that there was a charge for jam AND a Charge for Butter! (Especially since each pastry is cheaper than the coffee) Ive personally tried the kouign amann, cinnamon sugar knot, croissant and they were all so delicious! Went in for a pizza randomly one day. Had a great experience. The pepperoni was definitely in the spicy side and the pizza had a fantastic crust to it, very flavorful. Located on second street is a quaint little shop that serves an amazing breakfast sandwich. There is no seating just 2 benches outside of the shop. It is pretty much a pick up and go spot. I don't think I've ever visited a bakery/coffee shop where everything has been delicious 100% of the time until I visited this place. My matcha is always amazing, the staff are incredibly friendly, and the breakfast items are always a 10/10 no matter what day of the week I order. They put a lot of care into their handcrafted drinks and I appreciate that they pay their staff a living wage. I do not mind the higher prices at all knowing it directly benefits the staff. I took a loaf of their jalapeño cheddar sourdough loaf to work recently and it was gone before lunchtime. It paired extremely well with their garlic herb butter they import. They have good amount of seating to wait and they're always very quick with their food orders which I appreciate. The inside is decorated nicely and does not feel overwhelming. read more

Been a couple of times and never impressed! Went today for a coffee and to pick up a gift! A little 4 serving of hot coco was marked $21.50 so added it to my gift package along with a few other things. When I got to the register, it said $25. When I let them know the gentleman behind the register said he would correct it and call me back, but he didn't have the access code to do it! He didn't call me back so I returned and the lead said they're going to keep the register the price that's in the system and NOT honor the price tag marked on the product! I get it. It's hard to be profitable running a small bakery/coffee shop, and I understand management would rather have lower prices if they could; however, $15 for a scone and a pastry was about $5 more than I'd be willing to pay again. The scone and pastry were tasty, and the service was terrific. I wish them luck in these challenging times. BTW, the coffee shop next door recently closed, and so did the sweet shop just across the street. If you've walked State St. (a/k/a 'main street') in Santa Barbara lately, you'll know what it's like to walk past so many closed and empty storefronts. read more

Omg I keep going because the food is so good but the people behind the counter are so rude- it's not like one or two experiences- straight up the morning crew are unpleasant and off putting. One time I watched them make my coffee - watched them make it wrong- pointed it out and they told me I was wrong, rolled their eyes and gave me my wrong coffee (uber eats refunded after I explained it was wrong). The gentleman in the afternoon is nice, so just go after first shift. Folks you have a great product congratulations that is a superior pastry.
