This cutie bakery and cafe gets pretty busy but worth checking out. You can get lost in all the merch while waiting in line - a lot of unique items on display that are all bakery or kitchen related. By the time I got to the front, I picked up a fresh sourdough loaf and ordered their breakfast sandwich. The sandwich was delectable and filling! And the sourdough bread was a hit when I brought it back home. Seating is limited so you may need to stake out for an open table and if you're driving in, be prepared to look for street parking, especially on the weekends! read more

i haven't been to colossus in a bit.. I have to be honest that i've had some lackluster experiences here in the recent year. with both service and the food/baked goods. they were so good when they had just opened but a lot of things have changed since then. i have supported them since their farmers market only days. i'm not sure if they have done away with plates when you dine in but our food arrived in to-go containers. they've also made mistakes (numerous times) before - to give me the take out containers and utensils when dining in so it could be just that. i got the egg casserole on a bread with mushroom and gruyère. not sure what i expected but i thought it would be a bigger portion since it was 14 dollars. the dish was a bit of a one-note hitter. greasy, salty - alright for one or two bites but it gets to be kind of monotonous after that. i bought a side of hot sauce for a dollar and that remedied it a little bit. at 14, maybe throw in a little side salad. the casserole is probably made with stale bread, which is fine - but it just was not at all an interesting dish. i don't plan to get this again. i'm also hungry after eating the whole thing. read more

I ordered the espresso based drink, "The Breakwater," and it did not disappoint. The sparkling water and chantilly cream were the perfect complement to each other, making the espresso taste very smooth. Whenever I see a sparkling water/espresso drink, I'm intrigued--as not many coffee shops have this type of drink, but it seems to be catching on. The only negative part of my review is that I wish the drink was more affordable: at $8 a pop, it just isn't within my budget to come here often, although I wish it was. With that being said, I am aware that the prices reflect an increase in the wages of their employees, which I do think is a necessitous. read more

I think gusto and colossus go head to head in a throw down for best bakery in the LBC. Colossus has a more comprehensive menu and more interesting breakfast choices than gusto. Colossus bread is almost as good as gusto so close that I'd opt for either all things being equal. Pastries at colossus are in general better in my opinion especially the laminated dough ones. Nothing can beat a gusto koighn anonn, but colossus has a bomb koign anonn as well. read more

This is one of my favorite bakeries in Long Beach to get pastries. Parking in the morning isn't bad since the parking meters are free until 10am. Inside it was pretty small and they had goodies on display you can buy. I usually order the Pan Au Chocolat, it's basically a chocolate croissant. It was really good, buttery and flaky, tasted like the ones you would get in Paris! Overall, I recommend checking this bakery out if you're in the area for Parisian pastries. read more

I've been on a mini-quest, to find the best spots for a BLT in Long Beach. Colossus popped up in my search so I gave it a try. I'm ngl, after opening the box and taking a peek at the sandwich, I was a little disappointed thinking that I'd still be hungry after, didn't look like much, just an average, run-of-the-mill BLT. I was very surprised at the flavor, this sandwich had flavor that made it 3 times the size!! The bread: thin sliced, toasted perfectly, country bread with a nice crisp bite. The stuff: the mayo is a lemon thyme blend that compliments the crispy bacon well. The bacon slices are on the thicker side, crispy and delicious. Heirloom tomatoes sliced nice and thin and crisp, fresh lettuce, dusted with pepper. I'm not sure what the sauce was on the sandwich but to call it "dressing" doesn't do it justice. A little sweet, a little savory, all in all, every bite was pretty epic. If you have a large appetite, maybe get a pastry to go along with it but the sandwich will leave you satisfied and content. This was my first trip and yes, it was all about the BLT but they have a pretty extensive menu of pastries, sandwiches, fresh bread, coffee, tea...whatever your taste buds are craving. Also, while you're there, take a look around at the impressive selection of wine and things. This will have to become one of my weekly lunch stops, I'm already eyeballing the menu for the next try! I called the shop, and Valeria was kind, helpful, and patient with me. She had the pizza I ordered redone, adjusted the bill, and had my pizza made fresh to replace the first one. Totally understand what the hype is about! Everything we ordered was fantastic and tasted like it was made with love. We both ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese croissant breakfast sandwiches. I also ordered the O.G. chocolate chip cookie and Kouign Amann. The sandwiches were amazing. The croissant was fresh, the bacon was thick (bonus points), and it was seasoned well. Definitely recommend the sweet potato hot sauce! The O.G. chocolate chip cookie was a wonderful and great texture. It had a chewy feel and was the right type of dense. It was my first time trying the Kouigb Amann and it tasted super fresh like it just came out of the oven. read more

I drove quit a ways to pick up sourdough bread I asked for a loaf and she just pointed not following to explain what was available. I finally had to ask her for help. I chose a loaf and noticed all loaves seen very burnt outside. long story short. the loaf was hard as a rock and did not have a sour dough taste. Absolutely love love love this establishment, I haven't stepped into Colossus in years- I used to frequent the SP location. This morning I had the apple streusel pastry with a black coffee topped with whipped cream, this was an absolute delight! I had moments where I closed my eyes savoring the pastry and coffee, what a treat! Service here is lovely! Very prompt, where's the tip jar? First place in Long Beach where I see no jar or tipping option, I worked in coffee for many years, would certainly love to leave something. The space was busy at 8AM, that's how you know this place is doing something amazing! Very tidy, not too many spots available when it's busy but I caught a single table at the bar top outside. The coffee and pastries were great! We got the honey lavender latte and kougian amman which were tasty and ready efficiently. We also ordered a breakfast scone sandwich and the pane con tomate. The food took a long time, but yet my pane con tomate was soggy as if it had been sitting out for awhile. The bread was VERY thick, almost too thick, (yet somehow still soggy?) and I'm a bread girl! But overall had great flavor and probably would've been better fresh. The breakfast scone sandwich was very difficult to eat and basically fell apart in our hands as we were eating it. The flavor again was good. So overall, I would recommend this place for a quick coffee and pastry before hitting the beach, but I would skip the prepared food. read more

We're regulars at the San Pedro bakery but this was my first time at their LB spot. The larger space means a full kitchen with an expanded menu and brunch here was fantastic. I do see the hype for the pizza here. It's one of the best I've had. The quiche is extraordinary as well. A favorite for the family. A small shop but packs a lot. Had the pumpkin slice loaf as well. Spent $5+ and a good size. Hubby and I shared. They have front street tables. No spot inside. They have a variety of merch you can choose from. This time of the year is great for holiday shopping. Did not really add anything special to it except create nice photos. Unfortunately, the seeds on mine all fell apart before I got to take a decent photo. Personally, there are other croissant items that are better than this. I prefer the breakfast croissant sandwich over this. KOUIGN AMANN **Recommend This was delicious! Understood why it was a popular item! Heated it up until slightly hot to the touch in the toaster oven. The kouign amann was buttery and as you bite into it you get that vanilla bean, sugary moistness from the croissant. The  caramelized croissant on the bottom is crispy. Overall a lovely pastry to have with a cup of tea or coffee. TOAST & BUTTER This was delicious, however the toast was cut much thicker than expected. It was alotta bread to bite into. I appreciate how well the bread is made, but I think the thickly cut griddled bread works well for the other breakfast items such as Whipped Ricotta & Jam Toast and the Done Up Egg In A Basket. DONE UP EGG IN A BASKET   **Favorite & Must-Try! Super good! Loved it from first bite! The thick toasted country bread with the scallion cream cheese, chives, bagel seeds and egg in the middle was lovely! It tasted like an Everything Bagel with cream cheese. The chives was a bonus. The egg in the middle was chef's kiss. A complete breakfast for me. PECAN STICKY BUN This was delicious straight out of the toaster oven! Gooey, brown-sugary, buttery, and nutty. CAPRESE BAGUETTE SANDWICH The pesto with the heirloom tomatoes and Fior Di Latte cheese was delicious! The ingredients were fresh and it would be perfect for an al fresco lunch. The only downside is the mini baguette. It was not fresh and was a day old. It was so hard to chew! I cut the baguette in half to eat more comfortably, yet the baguette was so difficult to bite into! I felt like my teeth was fighting with the sandwich. So unfortunate the baguette was not made fresh! SAUCISSON SEC BAGUETTE I was looking forward to this baguette sandwich. Again, like the Caprese Baguette Sandwich, the baguette was really hard to eat. The French-cured sausage was thinly sliced over La Tur Cheese, a creamy, soft cheese which is a mix of cow, sheep and goat's milk. Mainly tasted like goat cheese. We swung by this place on a Saturday afternoon after visiting Rosie's dog beach with a friend. We were lucky with parking grabbing a street spot a short walk away. The place was busy for sure but we were able to get through the line and get our food pretty quickly considering the continuous flow of people. We first grabbed a table outside that didn't really fit all three of us and my husband brought out a snack to share while we waited for the rest of our food - We got a piece of bread with salami, goat cheese and strawberry reduction which was a perfect little snack. Thankfully we were able to get a larger table inside right after getting our food. Thoughts on the food were overall fabulous. My healthy friend got the cauliflower sandwich which she said was good with unique flavors and perfectly balanced. It came with a side salad which was also good but she is not a radish fan so she picked those out. I got the Turkey & Bre sandwich which was very tasty I only ate half and like the uncoordinated person I am I dropped the 2nd half on the ground when we were leaving. I was very disappointed because it was so yummy. My husband got the polenta porridge with a fried egg. He said it was also very good. It looked small compared to our sandwichs but after eating it all he felt good with the size It was very creamy and he did wish there were more veggies which were very tasty. read more

I came here the other day wanting to try a new coffee spot. I asked the cashier what he recommended since it was my first time and he said I should try the Coconut Carmel Latte. It was a bit pricey at $8.50 but there was no tax. It was nice that they included on the menu why the prices are a bit high compared to other places. I came here to try and study but it wasn't the best. There is limited seating inside but they also have an outdoor patio (also pretty small) there was not outlets so if you plan to come here and study for hours come with a fully charged device. Other than that this is definitely a nice little spot to get together with a colleague or a partner and just chat, sip on some wine, and eating some delicious baked goods. read more

Colossus is truly a hidden gem in Long Beach. Located on 2nd street, this bakery / cafe whips up fresh bread, scrumptious pastries, and yummy drinks! They mostly have outdoor seating, so it's perfect to enjoy a nice day out sipping your coffee. Once you enter the cafe, you're met with the amazing aromas of freshly made bread. My boyfriend and I decided to try their breakfast sandwich, jambon sandwich, iced matcha, and chai latte. Everything was soooo delicious. The breakfast sandwich came on a croissant, and it was buttery, flaky, goodness. You can literally taste the high quality ingredients in the jambon sandwich. The bread, meat, and cheese were all top-notch. We also loved both our matcha and chai drinks. Colossus is such a great addition to 2nd street and we can't wait to try more! read more

Strong competition for Gusto Bread in the fierce bakery town that Long Beach has become. We are blessed to have both of them in one town, but they are different animals and strong in different ways. What Gusto does, they do very well. Gusto has the loaf game down and some traditional pastries like conchas and two cookies, but their selection is quite limited and so are the coffee choices. I don't think they have introduced a new loaf flavor or new pastry (outside of the short term holiday items) the entire time I've been going there. That's where Colossus comes in, baby! Huge pastry selection both sweet and savory, full espresso bar with cold brew and matcha to boot. They are introducing new menu items constantly (cardamom knot or mushroom & gruyere croissant, anyone?) and they have a large breakfast/brunch menu. I had their eggs in a basket, and it was way better than expected. They are even experimenting with pizza on Friday nights. We got the vegan pie and that was good as well. You can taste the baker skills in the crust, and I love a good crust. I hate to cheat on my 1st love, but I dream about the cardamom knots at Colossus now, so watch your back Gusto...Colossus is coming up fast. read more

I love this little coffee spot! Although small, they sure do pack a punch! Just look at how ginormous the croissant is! It was super crispy and buttery. The vanilla oat milk latte was nicely made. As someone who doesn't drink coffee often, this was a nice treat. The strawberry cream soda is made with sparking water and their strawberry purée with whipped cream. I wish it were a tad sweeter just because I loooove sweets! I would come back here just for the positive energy. The worker was SO friendly and helpful. This spot and that man are hidden gems of Long Beach! There is indoor seating but I opted to sit outside since there were four small tables. I was desperately craving coffee so we stopped here. I tried the honey vanilla latte & they tried the honey lavendar . I asked the barista if I can get mine topped off with cinnamon ( I love cinnamon) & it came out really good . Although wish it would've been a bit sweeter. On the other hand, the honey lavendar wasn't great. It tasted like pure milk with a hint of lavender. Very disappointing. Baristas were nice though. read more

Every time I come here I'm always amazed at how efficient and delicious everything is. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. Their seasonal caramel iced latte is my absolute favorite. Great pecan sticky bun and kouign amann! Asked them to lightly toast our pastries and they came out perfect. The kouign amann was nice and flaky, and I enjoyed the chopped nuts throughout the pecan sticky bun. The pecan bun was pretty sweet but it paired perfectly with an iced coffee. Read some other reviews lamenting the increased costs but I feel like it's pretty on par with many other bakeries these days. Plus I'm not buying pastries every day and we quite enjoyed our pastries so I thought it was worth it! The latte was perfectly balanced, the roast tasted so nice, and the foam on top was super super velvety. We walked from our house to second street and decided to stop in to grab a pastry. We didn't have a mask because we didn't intend to go into any stores but my friend didn't know about the bakery & I wanted her to try it so we went in. The gal behind the register offered us a mask (thank you!) then the smell of freshly baked goods just took us away. We bought chocolate.
