Nice casual spot in the warmer weather to eat and have some drinks outside, and a cozy indoor dining for the cold temps. Our nieces and nephew love watching the trains go by, just a heads up they are literally next to the tracks so prepping the kids for the loud fast trains might be helpful. After climbing Breakneck Ridge, I was extremely hungry and thirsty. I looked for places with a high Yelp rating which lead me to this restaurant. It was the perfect place. Wonderful staff. It was snowing and we just got off the train from the city. They opened the doors early and say us by the fire. Tested us well. Shepherds pie and Maytag blue bacon burger. Can't go wrong with maytag blue cheese and bacon. It was great. Granddaughter had mac and cheese. Nothing special there. Out of a box and overpriced I thought. She had the Sheppard pie. We had a great 1st time experience! When receiving the menu, I was slightly disappointed because it didn't have very many options and none of the dishes that people had raved about on the reviews. When I asked our waiter, he informed me they were serving a shortened pub menu while their menu is being revamped and released within the next week or two. He was VERY friendly and impressive. We enjoyed a few beers on the patio along with the Parmesan Rosemary Fries for an appetizer. SO GOOD! I ordered a burger from the Pub Menu as I had read that the burgers were great! It was great! Not your ordinary burger and fries! My husband ordered the night's special which was Surf n Turf (Steak & Shrimp) with mashed potatoes. Once again, not your ordinary mashed potatoes, they were DELICIOUS. And the Steak & Shrimp both had amazing flavor! We enjoyed hanging out on the patio and the ambiance of the train passing thru. Two of my girlfriends and I gathered there for lunch. Two of us had as our main course Beef Nachos topped with shredded beef. What was surprising was that there was pickled vegetables on top, which we found delicious. Never had pickled vegetables before, but I look forward to having them again, not only on their Beef Nachos but other dishes, as well. Our server was very attentive. The restaurant and restrooms were very clean. The restaurant is very quaint and old-fashioned, and we can see the trains roaring by just outside. Friday night BBQ in the summer all you can eat. Chef cooks your steaks, chicken and ribs to order. Buffet sides usually consists of a gourmet pasta salad or two, fresh mozzarella and tomatoes, assorted breads, among other really tasty treats. Absolutely terrible customer service. After placing order, waited over 1 hour for food to be served ( we had a party of 4 where 3 ordered "deluxe" hamburger plates, and 1 ordered ribs ). Hamburgers OK but pricey at $ 13. Manager just told us that the kitchen was "busy" causing the delays. We also noticed that others that came in after us were served and finished their meals before we were even served. When we first got there the place was packed. Waiters and Bus Boy staff were very busy tending to the tables. We were seated quickly. Waiter said I'll be right with you. At 7:15 P.M. it was noticed that the place had cleared out for what it seemed to be those people catching the 7:20 Train. Our Order came quickly to our surprise and was Very Good. I had the Bourbon Burger with Beer Battered Fries. Burger was cooked the way I requested and the Fries we really good. As far as the rest of my family they also enjoyed the food that they got. We split two Salads, a kale and quinoa salad and a Mediterranean salad that came with hummus and pita points, 13 each, generous portions. Well balanced flavor. Should toast the pita and the hummus should have been a bit more flavorful. Portion made up for it. I had the cavatappi with red pepper and basil pesto primavera. Again good size, had to share. It was with asparagus, spinache, half tomatoes. It would have eggplant,but I nixed it. I hate eggplant. Service was adequate, but we sat inside on a beautiful summer night. I would go again. My family and I have dined here twice in the past month and the service and food have been top notch on both occasions. Truffle fries are fantastic, we've had their nachos (enormous and tasty) as well as their giant pretzel with beer cheese dip. We've been adventuring around Cold Spring the last couple of days.. went to a few places and I have to say this was our favorite. We started with wings, the chipotle on the side, and it was amazing. The French onion soup was the best we've had EVER. The meals were equally as good. I ordered the braised short rib. My fiance ordered the bacon wrapped meatloaf. Both meals were delicious. a few days ago a friend and i sat at the bar. the bartender dropped my beer in front of me, half liquid and half foam - no exageration! given the vibe he gave off i let it slide. i checked the menu on my cell phone, but it wouldn't zoom-in and the print was too small to read - the bartender found me a paper menu, which i gave back after we ordered. seeing the pretzels go by i asked him how much they cost. he replied, "9 or 10 dollars" to which i asked, "are they 9 or 10 dollars". it took him a good 5 minutes to finally tell me how much they cost - $10. i asked if there was a password for the wifi and he said there was no wifi, "we got hacked". i had a second beer which came back full. the burgers were excellent and arrived super fast. so the food was excellent, but that bartender has a serious attitude problem, like he was unhappy to be there, and my friend agreed read more

First time we took a day trip to visit Cold Springs. We had a lovely day and for lunch we stopped at the Depot. Overall, they had plenty of outdoor seating and social distancing was handled well. The food was good, and the waitress was friendly and helpful. We would recommend The Depot; however, we had an unfortunate experience with the owner. My husband ordered a draft beer which he thought tasted flat and asked the waitress to exchange it for something else. While waiting for the replacement beer, the owner came over and confronted my husband, and argued with him about the beer, basically telling my husband that it was not flat which embarrassed him in front of the rest of the patrons. Despite this, my husband drank the replacement and ordered another one. I had a drink as well plus we both ordered lunch which we enjoyed. However, upon review of the bill, we found that the beer that had been returned was still included on the check though the amount was put in a way in which made it look like it had been removed. It turned out that they had inconspicuously, charged us for that returned beer. As soon as we called the waitress back over, she came with the corrected bill already in her hand without us having told her what the issue was. We felt that they knew they had been caught. We paid and tipped on the corrected bill but overall a restaurant owner should always know better than that, as the customer is always right. It's never a good idea to argue with and confront a customer no matter what. We would have given a better review except for the avoidable, unnecessary and unpleasant experience, regarding a draft beer! read more

Adequate food. Slow service. Prices high for the quality. The main feature of the Cold Spring Depot, one which will delight any child or any adult with an inner child, is the proximity to the main line of the Amtrak railroad. Several times an hour a train comes barrelling by, so close you can touch it. The noise, the railroad smell, and the implied danger add to the turn of the century train station ambience. This was our first (and definitely not last) visit. The menu had plenty of options for our group of 8 - 4 adults and 4 kids - including a children's menu. The food was very good, especially the chicken wings (noticeably hot but not too) fries, really good cole slaw, calamari, lightly battered and fried, and a nice salad selection. The above description could be true of any number of places. What set this place apart for us was the level of attention and generosity of spirit - the atmosphere was casual and particularly welcoming to children. And the passing trains were fun too! read more
