Found this place while looking for a gas station. Since it was a nice day, I stopped for lunch. Apparently they do not let you know that this restaurant is sitting right next to a functioning set of train tracks! So, there I am enjoying my lunch when out of nowhere VROOOOM - giant train goes speeding by blowing all the stuff of the table! It was kind of funny I guess so long as the stuff doesn't land in your lap. The food was fine other than the Rochester Rocket (train name has been changed to make the review more interesting) barreling through and scattering the napkins. Hubby and I have eaten here a number of times throughout the years - main in the summer when you can sit on the patio and only twice have we ever eaten inside. Tonight was a night we had to eat inside.... Got here around 7:45 and we started our meal outside. I ordered French Onion Soup (weak) and the Caprese Panini (mediocre). Hubs ordered the Turkey Burger (bland) and my 2 year old had the kids Grilled Cheese (which comes with a drink and ice cream for $10.95... Rip off!) Before our meal came we had to ask if we could be moved inside because we were a family of mosquitos meal. Our waiter was really nice and move us inside quickly. Inside the restaurant it was freezing - AC & fans on full blast with outside temps in the low 70's :-/. I was so cold I had to run to my car and get our jackets. Once I got back inside our meal was at the table. Shortly after our waiter came by to ask how everything was (at the time we didn't need refills on the drinks). Then that was the end of him for a good 10-15 minutes mind you we now wanted refills. Long story short - every time we leave we always say WHY did we go back here?! Food is mediocre at best. The only nice thing about the place is the outdoor seating when you're not getting eaten alive by Mosquitos. We won't be back any time soon. read more

Our server was occupied, so we approached a woman he'd chattily mentioned as being a manager (white, female, 30something, tattooed, wearing a baseball cap and shorts). My god. They must lose a lot of money. Service is really really really slow. No one ever checks up on you - you just wait for the food that seems to never arrive. They don't even ask if you need another drink. The two of us ordered 2 items each and waited. And waited. And waited. We got the appetizers after 30 minutes (obviously reheated in a microwave). The burgers showed up long after we finished our appetizers. We would have had more beer if someone just came and asked us if we needed anything. When I mentioned the long wait to our waitress the one time we did see her, she laughed and said this is why her T-shirt says "catch the next one". As she walked away I was thinking - they really should have added... "And the next, the next... might as well just stay the night" Food was OK but not worth the painfully slow service. Did I say "slow service"? I meant slow and something not similar to service. What was the salt on the wound was the fact that we waited another 20 minutes for the check. We couldn't wait to get out. I walked in wanting a certain dish which i did not find on the menu so i was a bit dissapointed from the start. And ince im peeved i am that much harder to impress lol. Well, the food is excelent. Its not small town excellent, its NYC excellent. I tried the wings and the calamari salad. I order wings pretty much any place i go and am generally dissapointed. This place is in the top 5, some of the best wings i have ever had. The calamari salad... i grew up in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. I know calamari. But wait. We waited for over an hour to get our food. The service was terrible. The restaurant was packed because of its location to the train station in Cold Spring, and on a gorgeous fall day all the hikers and tourits were coming in. But the restaurant is not equipped for that many people. I waited on line for 20 minutes to use the restroom before finally going next door to the rrain station. And the food wasnt that great. They need to expand and hire more staff based on the seasons. Im sure this is a lovely place to visit and grab a beer at on a quiet night but weekends are atrocious. read more

While fine for the signature drink, a seltzer soda is never more than 6$, a Sam I've never seen more than 5$ and 8$ for shots?? Where are we Madison Ave?! Whatever. We thanked her for being so cool, and some other wait staff that were hanging around and overheard, gave us a hint to go up the street to some other bars if we wanted to chill and booze up some more for cheap cheap cheap. (they weren't kidding either, 3$ for a16oz coors up the street. Score!) Our bill was roughly 33$ per person; pretty bogus for a a group that only ate appetizers. While ALL the food was spectacular, the price just did not fit. Not only that but the outdoor all you can BBQ thing was rained out by an earlier shower. Started with the house salad. Large portion, with cucomber, red onions, cherry tomatoes, lettuce other than iceburg! Very nice! Next I ordered Brussel sprouts with maple syrup drizzle and thick sliced bacon. The bacon was fatty, not lean, more appropriate for seasoning of beans or greens. But, ik, it was there. Then chilli spiced wings. Nice, right amount of heat, celery sticks n dipping sauce. Last but not least, garic/basil skinny fries, with garlic infused dipping sauce. Huge portion, flavorful, and spot on! Ice cold beer, great service and a very clean, well organized bar area. I really like the Depot, and have frequented here over 15 years. a surprising little place next to the train tracks that screams cold springs. walking around the area and decided to stop in and was not disappointed at all. Our group had the following Grilled chicken sandwich on chabatta bread with bacon, tomato and Munster cheese topped with a pesto sauce. pesto alone had a beautiful fresh flavor. Chicken pot pie waa filled with nice flavors and filled with meat. Outside was baked to a nice golden brown, inside could have been a little warmer. We stopped in here on our way home from the Catskills. The town is amazing. The restaurant also is quite amazing. Located very close to the train the outside seating is very able and also dog friendly. The staff and the food was great. The steak sandwich was delicious. And with the full bar it's a great pair. Had lunch here after a hike at breakneck. Honestly, it looked really cute with the out door seating area. We were seated on the side back area where it's located literally five-ten feet from a railroad with trains passing every 10 mins. It's crazy they even are allowed to seat patrons so close to it! The passing train was terrifyingly loud and shook everything and I'm not the only one who wrote about it. You should stop seating patrons on that side. It's insane. I like that our waiter was extremely willing to let us try different beer samples but other than that he was extremely not attentive and I felt like I was always searching for him. When I asked someone passing by (who happened to be one of the host) she said I'm sorry I'm not the waitress and walked away. That was a big turn off. You could help me look for the waiter instead of just walking away. I don't know just turned me off. The Portebello mushroom burger was amazing. The burger was flavorful not too salty and cooked medium rare like we asked. We ordered the wings. It was okay. We also ordered the tater tots. This is a really nice restaurant by the end of the road next to the Amtrak station. The outdoor seatings are literally next to the tracks which might seem a little off but it kinda works. The trains runs by fast every 15-20 mins and it's guns to look at it while enjoying your meal. The negative reviews here are pretty much based on service which in my opinion is always hit or miss. Our server was a young lady who was very energetic and attentive. Got seated bright drinks and took orders, brought our food, kept checking on us. 10/10 Food: we all had burgers and they were huge and delicious, I specially loved mine (tuna burger) amazing flavors with nice mashed avocado as dressing sort with truffle fries to end the day after a long swim at the lake. All my buddies burgers had no complaints because I saw them devour it and tried to take some of mine as well which I denied them. Lively restaurant in a lively town with lovely people. This place is very convenient if you're waiting for your train back to NYC. Outside cafe where you can chill and not be bothered. It was full of foreign daytrippers when we were here. The food was good...nothing amazing, nothing terrible. Our waiter was actually really great even though he had a ton of tables scattered across the patio and possibly inside as well. The reason for the 3 stars is the lack of organization at the front of the house. To sit inside or outside you wait in a line that starts at the hostess station and at one point wrapped onto the sidewalk of 15+ people deep. When we arrived there was no hostess to be found...we waited about 10 minutes and she appeared (we had 4 parties ahead of us) and she seated one of the parties. Then she disappeared for a bit, then came back and seated the second party. All this time there were about 7-8 empty tables on the patio and I'm not sure what indoors looked like. They really needed a more efficient seating system like the other restaurants in the area. My husband and I got an app, each, a lunch meal, and iced tea/coffee left with a $93 bill. I got a salad and he a burger. I somehow missed we only got 6 (maybe 8?) wings for $13. My salad with chicken $28. I ordered the pear salad (?$16 about) and he asked if I wanted to add protein. I got chicken. Stupid me -didn't ask the price. I know everything is going up in price is these days but a $93 Sunday lunch was a little out of my price range. I'm not sure if I'll go back anytime soon. read more

Grabbed a group quick bite before catching the train back to the city. Pretty pop restaurant in the neighborhood. There was a fire place in the dining section of the indoor bar. Great thing for a place where winter can be severe. Staffs are super friendly, and the owner is quite a crowd charmer. Because there were 9 of us, there was no other seating available but outside, where there were no heaters. This is where 1 star got deducted out. Guess business can be slow here during the winter, so they don't even bother installing some heaters for the outdoor section? Food was excellent. Truffle fries were rich with truffle scent. so heavenly~ yet, it got really oily half way through. They should have considered drain the oil off before serving lol. Geez. Perhaps, we were unlucky enough to get the bottom of a batch. Anyways, even McDonald fries ain't this oily lol! would have sent it back if we hadn't already swallowed the first half. The truffle flavor was great no doubt. Calamari was tasty and didn't have any oily problem. Clam chower was fine. Imagine if they had sourdough bread bowl with it, life would be so perfect. 3 milk bread pudding is a wow! Its texture was soft, smooth and slightly stretchy in the middle. Their vodka cider is so soothing for a cold night. Burgers look amazing with all layers stacked up to 5-6 inches height! I was gonna order one myself if we didn't have a train to catch! Looking for an alternative to Whistling Willies, our group gave the Cold Spring Depot a try recently. We had expended a fair amount of energy exploring a two hundred year old iron mine and in keeping with tradition, we wanted a place with good food and "historical ambience." It's a great looking former rail station. Train memorablia is here and there. Nice. Our server was kind of clueless about the menu and beer offerings but he was pleasant and efficient. A ecclectic selection of beers was much appreciated. The menu is on the small size. Some apps, salads, sandwiches, some larger entrees. Our group of six kept it simple. Burgers, french dip. Everyone seemed pleased although the cooking temps of the burgers were incorrect for some. My rare burger with onion jam and thick cut bacon was rare but a bit low on flavor. The fries were just ok. Willies up the street prepares and serves a better burger. The beers and excellent conversation were the highlight of the evening. The Depot is a nice spot but don't expect to be knocked out by the food. Still, it was nice to try someplace new. read more

Second time at Cold Spring Depot and this experience was even better than the first. For those of you that have not been here, it sits right on the Metro North train tracks. Great spot for a nice sunny day brunch, lunch, or dinner. Homey atmosphere from the bartender Andrea, well versed in all drinks and Netflix originals, to the cute little old lady who brings a personal bike bell attachment for her mug to ring for every Yankees home run and Giants touchdown. To start off my visit with a Citra Bridges sour beer from Mill House Brewing. Craving a turkey sandwich I ordered the Depot 2.0, smoked turkey, rosemary mayo, pear chutney, cranberry brussel sprout slaw. Sandwich was incredible. At first I thought it was going to be a little too much, but it definitely satisfying my craving. I will be eating and drinking at the Cold Spring Depot in the near future. read more

They handled social distancing pretty well with their large outdoor patio (much appreciated table umbrellas to keep from the summer sun). Spaced seating, mask requirement when walking about, and menus only available online. Most tables were taken when we went on a Friday around 2:30p. The Metro North tracks run up against the back length of the patio, separated just by a metal grate fence. Was disruptively loud at times but that's the price of sitting outside. We had a truly terrific meal here outside on a warmish October evening. One of the best onion soups we've ever had, a wurst plate with potato salad that was perfect, a large and tasty schnitzel, Guinness on tap, and very pleasant service. We waited on line for about 30 minutes and it was clear they tried to move things along without rushing anyone. When people got up to leave the table was quickly cleared and set. They were simply efficient. Every once in a while an Amtrak train blew by, which just added to the ambience. It is called The Depot for a reason. I had the portabella burger with a veggie patty, and it was pretty good. I was impressed that the patty was high quality and wasn't just a frozen gardenburger. Wayyyyyyyy too much aioli on the burger -- it was literally drenched in the middle, but I scraped most of it off. Do not try the ribs -- my friend said they were really bad. Fries were okay, cucumber salad was nice (like having extra pickles), slaw was a little weird cuz it isn't coleslaw -- more like a pickle slaw but had some weird spice in it. I was literally starving, so this really hit the spot. The host that seated us was super nice and made sure to get our dog water -- great perk, they allow dogs on the patio area! Really great place to grab a bite and beer/wine before you jump on the train after hiking breakneck. Service is pretty snail slow, and you have to flag the waitress down if you need anything. read more

My five star review is strictly for the food. The food is always fresh, flavorful and makes my taste buds sing. This visit I was extremely disappointed with the bar tender Timmy. He didn't greet me and my party with a smile. Nor did he hand us A drink menu or tell us about drink specials. I asked for two different drinks. He responded to my first request "thank God we don't make those" and my second request he said he didn't have the ingredients to make it. He didn't suggest anything but did hand us drink menus. The drinks were very good. The bartender Timmy just wasn't friendly. He didn't ask if we'd like another round. Needless to say we had our one drink, ate our one dish and left. Our intention was to spend more time and money there. We sat at the bar with the intent of having more than one round. We just felt so unwelcome.
