The drinks and food I've tried from them have been good but the staff makes me uncomfortable because they are rude. One time he didn't hear me when I ordered alternative milk and when I said something to the man making my he got annoyed and accused me of not telling the cashier. And just yesterday I asked for my pastry to be heated up and again , didn't hear me and handed it to me and glared at me to take it and when I said "I'm sorry I asked it to be warmed " he snatched it from me and rolled his eyes. The Fairfax Coffee Roastery is as good as it gets! They're non corporate locals that have created a great community gathering place. The owners roast their coffee daily right there on location....and it's all organic, Fair Trade. I've been going there since they opened and have learned that they are also the owners of the original Coffee Roastery that started back in 1979, so they really know how to make great coffee drinks! I also love that they have many different food items for breakfast and lunch......and yes for all the geeks they have WI-FI. It gets pretty crowded there on the weekends with all the bikers....but then again , that's how I know everything is fresh. read more

I have such mixed feeling about this place. I love the staff and the location and come here every weekend on my way to Lake Lagunitas, and have been doing so for almost ten years. I even have a Keen water bottle with a CR logo. So trust me when I say I want to leave a 5-star review, but... they have TERRIBLE cold brew/iced coffee and that's all I drink. It's like someone took the coffee that's left over and put it in the fridge: bitter and burnt. And it's been this way for years. So now I get cold brew in San Anselmo or Pt Reyes Station and get snacks at the CR. But I dream of being able to have hood cold coffee here. read more

Okay. There used to be a Marin Coffee Roasters in Fairfax, and one in San Anselmo. Now they've split off and gone their own seperate ways - so now this place is known as Fairfax Coffee Roasters. And I absolutely love it. Excellent lattes and cappuccinos, and their drip coffee is the best I've had - so much so that I buy my beans from here now exclusively, with their Bohemian Blend the best of the lot. And the bonus? Buy a pound of beans, get a free cup of coffee!! Nothing better than snagging my bag o' goodness, and snagging a tasty iced coffee to walk to my car with. Absolutely any time I've been in here (10 now?) I've had tremendous service, and super friendly to boot. Definitely worth a visit. read more

I'm a little confused because this place also goes by the name The/Fairfax Coffee Roastery. I used to take epic bike rides from Golden Gate Park, across the bridge, to Marin Headlands, over to Sausalito and into Fairfax. We'd either stop here and turn around or stop here on the way back if we passed it. This has become a staple stop for cyclists. The selection isn't massive but they have a bathroom that is heavily used and a godsend for us cyclists. The problem is that during busy hours, bikes lay against every open wall and post around that intersection. The intersection is very busy as it is, so you have to be really careful. Despite these things, it's a decent place to go and will always hold a spot in my memory. The employees are nice and polite, but the place isn't really that clean or up-to-date. read more

Cool place and a great vibe specially as a cyclist. This is the perfect spot to fuel up on an espresso before hitting the hills. The latte I had was not as good as I was expecting from a roster... however the pastries where good and next time I will have to try out an espresso. Could not give them more than 3 star because I would expect only amazing coffee from a coffee house. To expand on my latte... the texture of the milk was lacking, it was just foaming mess... also the lack of latte art is typically shows that the barista just does not care, or does not know how to texture the milk to give it that creamy heavy sweet taste one would expect from a latte. Hopefully the shop takes this into consideration and perfects the art a bit more.. after all this is why we avoid Starbucks. read more

Fantastic coffee and espresso drinks. Their beans are definitely a darker and more flavorful roast than some might enjoy, so keep that in mind both as you read reviews and as you sip their coffee. I think it's delicious. My favorites to order are the Mexican Mocha (maybe seasonal?) and an iced Americano, nothing added. We also frequently buy their whole beans and yes, we grind them at home for use in a French press - not the cheapest beans I've ever bought, but if you're a coffee lover and not just a caffeinator-out-of-necessity, you know sometimes you have to pay a premium to get what you want. Their bagels are the best I've had out here on the west coast. Not too dense, not too doughy. The baguette sammies are tasty, and so are the sweet pastries and other baked offerings. If you're planning to head here on a weekend morning, be warned, it gets BUSY - don't expect a fast in-and-out on a Sunday morning at 10AM. In my estimation, it's worth the wait, especially if you're headed out to the coast - you won't find great coffee further west until you hit Point Reyes Station. read more

Love love love this lil' coffee house. Their pastries and quiches look really, really good, if you're coming in here hungry. Otherwise, they make a damn good cup of coffee. It's nice and bold, probably one of the stronger cups of coffee I've had in the area. They make New Orleans style iced coffee like Blue Bottle, only they don't serve it pre-packaged to you in a carton and they put in extra chicory. It's better than Blue Bottle. Staff are so friendly and conversational. I left a good 10-15% happier than I was when I came in. Fairfax is the best and their coffee roastery is partially why. read more

After spending all morning with the little man at the park, husband and I really needed that little something to make it through the rest of the afternoon. I had a blended Mocha, and I gotta tell you, it's one of the best I've ever had. It was a nice blend of mildly sweet, with that espresso kick.... DELICIOUS! Husband had an iced coffee, and same thing, it had an earthy texture to it, simply divine! The little man asked for chocolate milk, which they happily made for him. It's pouring rain, it's 38F and you've been out riding your stupid bike for hours and hours. You're tired, you're shivering, you can't feel your toes, and your face is caked with mud that you've been sucking off the wheel in front of you. (It's either that or fight the wind.) 'Screw you guys, next time I'm stopping for a snack in Pt. Reyes' you say to nobody in particular. And then on the long, lumbering climb back to Fairfax you start talking to yourself. 'If I can just make it to the Roasters, I am *definitely* stopping.' And by golly you make it, yes you make it! THE ROASTERS. You prop your bike against the wall and duck inside. It's warm, the coffee's humming and two guys are picking a guitar and banjo over in the corner. You're a mess, you're dripping all over the place, the kindly locals briefly look up and give you a sympathetic smile. You get in line, fumble for your ziplock wallet, how much warm stuff can you drink and eat for $20? You get the big coffee, a big muffin, a quart of soup... Well now, that's a bit better. You peel off some of your wet clothes. You get a refill on the coffee, they charge 75 cents but hell it's sweet and rich and it's just roasted, just ground, just brewed. You're still kinda shivering. Another coffee refill, a chocolate brownie. Hmmm, maybe you could stay here for the rest of your life. You take a look outside, it's still raining like f*ck, your bike is still there. Hmmm. You hit the restroom to refill your water bottles and happen to get a look at yourself in the mirror. Wow, they actually served this person, this pathetic, muddy, sopping wet, shivering freak clad in spandex from head to toe?! Bless them. I would hate to get overly critical when this place obviously has a local following. Which is awesome! However, I would like to add my yelp. I realize, my wife and I order the two most challenging of espresso drinks: my wife soy latte, and myself dbl iced americano. Mine was warm and watery, hers was made with whole milk, and still called out as soy. However I give the community a extra bonus, b/c I belief that it is small local coffee shops like this, are important in communities. read more

Staff member behind the register was very nice, and she made the ham egg and cheese bagels very well. The guy making the coffees, though, seemed very grumpy and abrupt. We got a caramel mocha and it tasted weird, but the whiteout iced coffee was a little better. They did have live music which was nice and the outdoor seating area was very pretty. read more

Nice spot in the middle of a little strip in fairfax. Menu is pretty straight forward with a really good selection of coffees, teas and pastries. It's a pretty good size coffee shop with seats in the back. Looks like it catered to all ages. I (and every other northbound cyclist) stop here religiously before heading into the wilds of West Marin. The turkey pesto sandwiches are always on fresh baguettes, and the baked goods are on point. Tea should be brought up to Starbucks quality - a tiny tea-disc in a big cup of water is so 1994. The San Anselmo location is more spacious with outdoor seating, but this is your last bathroom/water bottle refill/replenish calories/rest your legs and check your email before Rancho Nicasio. read more

I only give this place a 3-star rating because I can use my card here, unlike Fairfix. Honestly though, if Fairfix had an ATM register, I'd be there each morning, hands down. I also only give them 3-stars because they have a carafe of soy milk on the counter - a very rare sighting in any coffee shop, even in hippie Fairfax. The staff - they could be nicer. The only nice person really is the blond curly-haired owner - but it's to be expected that he'll be nice to the patrons. Their espresso drinks - I'll pass. The pastries - bland and generic. If you just go here to get a small coffee and a single pastry to stave off lunch-time hunger. That's what I do. When I have cash on me, I'll go to Fairfix - which has an amazing selection of salads, entrees, sandwiches, and espresso drinks to satisfy the palate. The staff are friendlier there too. read more

In Fairfax this is the ONLY place that offers a good coffee and some good customer service. I agree with Courtney that their customer service could be better, but the owner is soooo nice !! This place is so lively and well decorated! There is ornate wood cut-outs lining all of the walls, windows, and furniture, plus some neat artwork and all of the roasters look great too! There's a good amount of seating and a ton of bike racks outside. They have a huge variety of syrups, which they also use to create exotic raspberry, orange, and white mochas and their baristas really know their stuff! The coffee isn't bad but the baristas are pretty rude. I ordered an iced latte but received a hot one. I asked for just a cup of ice so they don't have to remake it again since they were busy. The guy who took my order made a scene and said that I didn't tell him I wanted iced and took the drink right out of my hand. I personally thought it wasn't a big deal since a lot of coffee shops usually wouldn't mind remaking the drink again. This is a nice place to grab a cup of coffee and start the day. The menu offers a bevy of beverage options. The drinks are good, but the service is a little slow for anything beyond plain coffee. Even when there aren't many customers. So I tend to stick with just coffee -- which isn't stellar, but does the job. The pastries are good, but several times I've spotted flies on them and decided not to indulge. I'll stop here early in the morning if I'm waiting for the bus across the street. My family and I were in the area after hiking Mount Tam and we needed some caffeine before heading back to the East Bay. I would not recommend this coffee joint as the young people running the shop don't seem to be paying attention. My family and I ordered our drinks and while two of us got our drinks in a timely manner (which is why I am giving 2 instead of 1 star) my partner did not get his drink. We had to remind the cashier, who finally made it, but in the wrong size. We had to go back to ask for the correct size and the coffee was not good. There were no customers ahead of us or after us so I'm not sure why the staff forgot. read more
